Automatically sync local files and iTunes playlists

Is it just me, or does Spotify not update playlists and local files from iTunes automatically as you add more tracks?
This is so annoying. I use iTunes to add and organize my local files, which Spotify is not able to do. But the least Spotify could do was to do a check up once in a while to see if i added new local tracks or changed my playlists in iTunes. As it is now i have to import playlists and local files everytime i add new music. So i first need to add it to iTunes and then again to Spotify. Toooo much work.

Hey guys,
I am interested in the "Local File Refresh Button" functionality described initially in this post: http://community.spotify.com/t5/Spotify-Ideas/Local-File-Refresh-Button/idi-p/188652
I consider that having the "Local File Refresh Button" option would make a lot of users happy, is anyone else interested in this idea?
Cheers !

  • Copying Music Files and iTunes Playlists Onto New Computer

I just received my new MacBook Pro and am going to need to copy my music files, iTunes playlists, etc. from my existing PC to my new MacBook Pro. Can anyone recommend some good/definitive articles or posts on how to do this seamlessly?
One thing I should note is that while I keep a lot of my music in my iTunes folder, I also keep a lot of it in other folders on my hard drive, and I'd strongly prefer to maintain this file organization. I'm hoping this won't cause any issues with the transition. I also really, really, really hope I'm able to cleanly transition my playlists without having to manually recreate anything, as I have hundreds of playlists that I've spent literally thousands of hours curating!
    Thanks in advance,
    Alex

if i were you, i would move my complete library to the Mac first. you can easily move content to different locations later on. please post back if you want to know more.
    my reasons are these:
    1) as the articles i linked above outline, it is not as simple as +drag & drop+ if you want to retain playlists, ratings, etc. when making the move from winsloth to Mac. check this thread for possible problems: http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=11495714#11495714.
    2) it is generally better to let iTunes do the moving of files. if you do his manually, chances are iTunes will lose track of their location.
well, you might want to wait and see if another user comes up with a brighter idea
    good luck !

  • My Iphone 4s automatically synced when I started ITunes. When it did this it saved all of my pictures on my computer to my phone. How do I reverse this and take the pictures back off of my iPhone?

My Iphone 4s automatically synced when I started ITunes. When it did this it saved all of my pictures on my computer to my phone. How do I reverse this and take the pictures back off of my iPhone?

Yeah, my iPhone 4S sometimes manages to connect to wifi for about 10 minutes now. I think there is a problem related with the antenna because when the phone heats up, the WIFI stops working. I had a similar experience with my older iPhone 4S which I bought from the U.S.A. (unlocked version) but after a couple of days, WIFI icon grayed out and I wasn't able to switch it on and off. Now the phone I'm using was bought in Turkey from a local carrier, (it's not locked I suppose) I'm planning on upgrading to an iPhone 6 and I will try to get my 4S repaired. I hope it is something related with software rather than hardware. Because a friend of mine sent his phone to the local Apple store to be fixed, they sent the phone back claiming that they had repaired it. But in about 2 days, the phone shut itself down and never turned off back again lol. I don't want to experience the same thing. But anyway, thanks for your answer. At least now I know that I'm not the only one that has this problem .

  • Sync songs from iCloud as well as local files in iTunes?

I am using iCloud match to access my music library.
I have some mp3 files that are deemed "ineligible" by Apple for uploading to iCloud.  These files are on my PC and in iTunes.  I can play them on my PC.
How do I use iCloud as well as sync/upload local files in iTunes to my iDevices (3Gs, iPad3)?
Now, if I go into the Music" tab of my device in iTunes, I just see "iTunes Match is on" message and there seems to be no way to mix-n-match files from iCloud and local files on my PC.
PS: Bonus question: What happens when I exceed the 25000 track limit for iCloud Match?  Then I'll have files in iCloud as well as on my PC, in iTunes, that I'll want to sync and listen to .... How do I do that?
    Aloke

I figured it out looking through some similar questions.  Went to "File, Add Folder to File" and then selected the "Music" folder above.

  • Can't sync local files.

Spotify refuses to sync local files. It will sync every other song but wont even attempt to download local files onto my iphone. They stay grayed out.
IMy iphone and mac are conneced to the same wifi. I have the most recent mac and iphone version of spotify. I just did a clean reinstall of both. I also checked to make sure that I have the most recent IOS and OSX version, and I do. I am using a macbook pro retina 13 inch which I just bought and an iphone 5.

Hi, I have had this problem for such a long time and it has been driving me mad. I couldn't sync my local files that were in my playlist to my iPhone or iPad, for example Fifth Harmony's song 'Worth It'. It was in my local files but wouldn't download and sync even if the playlist was avaliable offline. Yet theiir singles 'Sledgehammer' and 'BO$$' were syncing because they're on Spotify.
Also both my Apple products weren't showing under the devices section even if they were under the same WiFi.
However I have fixed my problem; it is due to the firewall in my HP laptop. I went into my laptop's search bar and typed in 'firewall'. I got a promt for allow a programme through firewall. I clicked on the controll panel for this and I had to change my settings for Spotify as it was only ticked in one box and not both like iTunes is. As soon as I clicked on this and saved the settings, I went back into Spotify and straight away my iPhone 5s appeared under my devices and my playlists that were containing my local files started downloading and syncing.
Hope this helps anyone else with this problem!!
    :)

  • Can't drag local files into a playlist

I like to drag local MP3s into a playlist.  I can't do that anymore.   I can see them in my Local Files and then drag them.. but it was so much easier to drag and drop the ones I want from my finder window.  Anybody else?

I've reverted to an old Spotify version - http://www.wired.co.uk/news/archive/2015-03/12/how-to-downgrade-spotify - until they fix this and various other issues introduced with this update (although note - I'm having problems getting this downgrading to work on OSX).  All in all a very unfortunate turn of events, as picking such an app like Spotify to use to entirely manage one's music, create all one's playlists in it, etc, requires a huge amount trust in the system (since all the playlists one creates etc are somewhat stuck in that system), and this update breaks-down that trust by showing Spotify's willingness to break all kinds of features which many users depend on. I imagine I'll stick on the old version a while, then see if things have improved, and if not I'll have to pick an alternate solution, hopefully with a company that actually cares a little more about its users. These are by no means the first issues Spotify has created or failed to resolve regarding local file support (syncing them to devices has always been painful and hasn't fully worked for all my playlists for years despite a few fresh installs for example - compare this to google music which has cloud support for your own music), among other things, but definitely for me this was the straw that's broken the camel's back.

  • Spotify won't sync local files to iphone

I've had local files synced for a long time, but today all tracks appeared as greyed out. I reinstalled the app and now when I press the offline switch nothing happens and the tracks remain greyed out. I've tried everything I have found on this forum: I am connected to the same wi-fi network (which has worked before so there is no problem there), I have about 7gb storage free on my iphone, I have tried reinstalling (several times) both spotify on my iphone and on my mac, I haven't updated the spotify client since this last worked (I went back to version 0.9.15.27 a while ago which did work for local sync). This is probably the most important feature for me so if this isn't getting fixed I will have to end my subscription.

Just follow this instructions (exactly) for you to be able to sync local files from your desktop to your iPhone. Note: This feature is for Premium users only.Using the desktop app, add local music files you want to sync to a playlist.Log into Spotify on your iPhone using the same WiFi network as your desktop.Tap the menu button ().Tap Your Music.
    Tap Playlists.
Tap Local Files, or the playlist containing local files from your computer.Select the playlist containing the local music files and press the Available Offline switch at the top.
A green arrow will appear next to the tracks when syncing is complete.

  • "Entitlements are not valid" error message when trying to sync ipa file from iTunes to iPad

Is anyone else getting this error message, "Entitlements are not valid",  when trying to sync .ipa file from iTunes to iPad?
The issue I'm having is getting the ipa file that was built by the 'Adobe Flash Packager for Iphone' installed into my iPad.
So, I have a swf file that works and was able to publish it into the Android Market.  I then compiled and build the same flash project with the Packager for Iphone into an .ipa file.  But when I try and install this .ipa file into my iPad to do my testings, i'm getting the error message.
I would like to test my ipa file in my iPad device before submitting it to the Apple Store.
Any help would be appreciated. thank you.

Developing for iphone can be amazingly complicated and frustrating.  (even before you start coding).  The process of having to create a Certificate, to approving the Certificate, to Assigning the deviceIDs to the certificate, to creating the AppIDs, to creating the provisioning profiles and then creating the .p12 file... is just too tedious.
I solved the problem of the "Entitlements are not valid".   The AppID i had set in the iPhone Developer Portal did not match that of the AppID i had set in the Adobe Flash CS5 -> Publish Settings.  (ie. com.yourdomainname.yourappname).  After I re-entered my AppID and compile, i was able to sync the .ipa file into my ipad.
I wish the error message had been a little more descriptive.  Could have saved me a whole day.
I hope this helps others.  But my guess is, if you don't set the 40 character device ID correctly, or the email in the signingcertificate correctly, you'll get this same generic error message.

  • File and iTunes sharing doesn't work

    Hello,
I have am trying to share files and an iTunes library from my Macbook Pro (Early 2008 model.)  Since upgrading to Mac OS X Mountain Lion, sharing of all kinds has been acting strange.  In other words, file and iTunes sharing from my computer can't be seen by other computers, but the reverse is not true.
-- 1. iPhone remote app can't see my library:
While I can pair my iPhone with my iTunes library (iTunes 11) in the remote application, the Remote app simply says "Looking for..." without no name given for the library (on the remote app, the library shows up as a deactivated itunes logo with no name,) and then "Couldn't find ..."  i.e., it fails to find the library.
-- 2. iTunes library can't be seen on other macs:
I activated home sharing on my mac and another mac (Macbook Air 2011 with Mountain Lion and iTunes 11), I also set my iTunes preferences to "Share music over local network."     While I can see the Air's library on the MBP, I can't see the MBP's library on the Air.
-- 3. Shared folders can't be seen on other macs:
I can see shared folders from the Air on my MBP.  But to connect to shared folders on the MBP from the Air, I must enter the exact address, since browsing for my MBP on the network shows nothing.
I have confirmed that TCP port 3689 is open on the MBP.   Firewall is off.  The local network in question is my cable modem connection (no router) which I am sharing from my MBP by WiFi .  I am running OS X 10.8.2, iTunes 11.0.1.
I would appreciate any help anyone could give.
    Thanks

And you are quite persistent, Menu Boy, in offering pernickety and pointless prattle, in response to a "support page" on iPad's buggy Pages App.
Let's summarise, for those reviewing this threadless thread for app support..
Mobile pages works reliably for simple docs, especially creating letters and Menus for Microsoft's Kindy canteen (even on special days with nice big pictures).
When importing more complex docs and/or working with larger creations, it is prone to randomly corrupting files upon re-opening, along similar lines as Word (running on a PC).
So, Menu Boy, do they let you sneak into classes every now and then? What is the secret to their training? "Say after me, if any I.T. product works just some of the time, that's a job well done, and if something randomly stops working, we call that the user's fault... And if they complain, we call them names."

  • Sync All songs and SOME Playlists?

When syncing my ipod, I'd like to sync all songs, but only some playlists (the other ipods that sync on my computer also have playlists that I do not wish to see on my ipod).
There is an option for Sync All songs and All Playlists, or Sync only checked playlists. If I select the Checked Playlists option, then I only sync the songs in the playlists and not the majority of my itunes library. Is there any way for me to Sync All Songs and Only Checked Playlists?
    Thanks.

No, it doesn't work that way. And, even if you do Sync Selected playlists, if any of the songs in the selected playlists are in the non-selected playlists, the non-selected playlist will show up on the iPod (with only the songs from the selected playlists)which is a bit odd.
If you're using a Classic or 3rd gen, you could put all your playlists in one folder in iTunes. Those iPods recognize folders so then you could just go to that folder and ignore the other playlists.

  • Won't sync local files!

As the title says, my samsung galaxy s5 just won't sync my local files from my computer. I've read and tried everything the help thread recommended but it just won't work.

I have the same problem and it's really annoying! Since the redesign it stopped working for me and I have tried everything (deleting, etc.). Spotify Connect is working, but I can't get Spotify to sync local files to mobile devices....

  • HT1386 trying to sync iphone 4 and itunes keeps coming up with "itunes cannot sync apps to the iphone because the apps installed on the iphone could not be determined"?

trying to sync iphone 4 and itunes keeps coming up with "itunes cannot sync apps to the iphone because the apps installed on the iphone could not be determined"?

Same issue. Is this a new bug with iTunes 10.5.1??
    Anyone know of a solution?
I reported it to Apple on the feedback page, but, I'm pretty convinced that Apple doesn't listen to or read their feedback. http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • How can I share files and itunes through extreme base station ??

How can I share files and itunes music through the extreme base station. as well as locate and place files onto the external hard drive that is connected to the X.B.S. from my or other computers hooked up to it ??
thank you in advance for your attention on this matter.
    - BrooklyNYC

Which AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) are you discussing? The new square 802.11b/g/n AEBS supports the direct connection of USB hard drives. The previous round 802.11b/g AEBS does not have that capability. I have a feeling that you are asking about the new one but this is the discussion area for the old one.
The new square 802.11b/g/n AEBS allows you to share files directly from the connected USB drive. It doesn't matter what the files are so you can store your iTunes library there and get access wirelessly.
The round 802.11b/g AEBS doesn't have this ability.

  • .xml file and iTunes library files are missing from the music folder

I recently made a second itunes library on my external hd, today when I open itunes and choose this library, the .xml file and itunes music file are invisible or translucent, therefore I can't open my library. But when I go to my music folder they are missing. Another odd thing is that all my music is still in the folder. Is there a way to re-open my library w/o re-importing all my music? Can I some how get a new itunes library file?
      Mac OS X (10.4.10)

This is not an answer but I have the same problem. From time to time I clone my music drive to an external drive for back up. When I do, I burn a copy of the album artwork folder, iTunes Music folder, iTunes Library.itl, iTunes Music Libraru.xml, and iTunes Library file to CDRW. This is so I can copy them into the music folder in my user home drive of my laptop then hook up the external and have access my library. Trouble is the .xml file and iTunes library files don't always show up when I go to the iTunes folder in my Music folder. There either is a blank where they should be or the names appear with no icon and when I click to select, that dissappers too. I thought I had a solve by exiting iTunes and letting it save everything. It seems to bring the .xml file back but not the itunes Library file. Any thoughts?

I have had about 9 iOS devices at work do this.
The fix and it will wipe out anything on your iphone is to connect it to your computer and have the latest version on iTunes open.  Hold the Power/Sleep and Home button till it blanks out.  Keep holding the home button untill it says recovery mode on the screen of the computer and do a restore.
