Automatically Syncing my Ipod?

I've had my iPod for a few months now and I have it set to manually sync songs onto my iPod so that I can use it on two separate computers. I want to set it where it automatically does it when I plug it into only one of the computers. I dont want to lose the songs that are in my itunes library on the other computer so is there anyway I can transfer my songs from that library on the other computer to this one or some way to transfer songs from my ipod to my itunes library on this computer.
And one more question. If i delete the music files from my music folder will that disrupt how they play in my itunes library or on my ipod when it syncs?

Changing iPod to auto sync will not change library on computer.
With iPod connected go to summary tab of iPod. Check box to turn on syncing. iTunes will then sync iPod to contents of library.
Supposedly you can transfer songs using iPod. Have never done this. Easiest way to transfer file from one machine to another is using home network or burn discs.
Deleting music from My Music folder will, depending on iTunes settings, cause iTunes to not be able to play the songs any more.

  • DEP preventing Itunes from automatic sync with ipod

I can't find anything about this anywhere so you might be able to help me!
I changed the podcast automatic sync settings on my ipod and for some inexplicable reaon, the ipod (160gb classic) started sncing manually with itunes. (i'm pretty sure i didn't touch the manual tick box!)
Everytime I unclick the manual snyc button on the ipod page, itunes shuts down and i get a message saying that data execution protection has prevented changes. I have attempted to change the DEP setting for itunes, but I get a message saying that i'm not authorised/ not safe to do so. i am logged in as an administrator.
Anyone have any idea what to do next!?!

I basically was unselecting "manually manage music and videos", ok-ed the standard do you really want to do that box and the itunes shut down.
Windows problems/solutions would then tell me about itunes not having enough DEP priviliges.
Unfortunately I'm not able to tell you what happens, as I have just tried it again to get the exact errors and it has worked beautifully!
no shutdowns, no problems. I haven't done anything differently.
Problem reports and solutions don't mention the DEP thing but say fault with stackhash_fd600.
Obviously posting on this forum in itself is enough to solve problems!

  • ITunes does not automatically sync to iPod

When I connect my iPhone4 or iPod Classic to my mac, they will not automatically open iTunes and sync.  The iPhone automatically syncs with iPhoto only.  I have tried resetting my ipod and iphone and reselecting automatically sync iphone from the iphone screen in iTunes.  I have also repaired permissions with no change.
What else have I missed to make these things auto-sync again.

    Hello pib1617,
iTunes Match can be enabled on your iPod Touch via Settings -> iTunes & App Store.
Turn on iTunes Match. Go to Settings > iTunes & App Store. Sign in if you haven’t already.

  • AUTOMATIC SYNCING OF IPOD CLASSIC

Is there a way to shut off the automatic synchronization of the ipod when I connect to my computer

Yes there is, but you have to connect it to the computer in order to get to the place in iTunes that you do this, at least you used to have to connect it. Go into the iTunes Preferences (perhaps it is "Options" under Windows). In the "Devices" tab, there is a check box for "Prevent iPods, iPhones, and iPads from syncing automatically." Check that box and our iPod will not auto sync when you connect it to the computer.

  • ITunes 9 not allowing most smart playlists to automatically sync with iPod

Oh dearie me. This is another major blunder for iTunes 9 - which I cannot see anyone else has noticed yet (but sorry if I couldn't find an existing related post).
Since upgrading to iTunes 9- almost all of my smart playlists (whick worked perfectly before) have disappeared from my iPod. They have also removed themselves from the list in iTunes where I choose which playlists to sync. Yes- I use the 'sync only checked songs & playlists' option (but please don't suggest I manually manage music, as I've been there before).
The problem seems to happen when a smart playlist references 2 or more other (smart or normal) playlists in iTunes. This excludes about 95% of my playlists from syncing in iTunes 9.
Before the upgrade I noticed that iTunes posted an exclamation mark next to any playlist on my iPod that had a rule referencing a playlist in iTunes- but they still sunc perfectly for years. I mean if Apple allowed us to make our own smart playlists only for the iPod- then I would understand- but its the only way I can see to have a playlist for example that plays all favourite but not recently played dance music (regardles of actual genre); nor anything I have moved to a manual playlist called 'not for syncing'.
As a test, I tried an experiment with a new smart playlist which said so long as the song appears in (all) 2 smart playlists- to see when it would become 'syncable'. As would be expected- it was not available to sync. As soon as I deleted the 2nd playlist rule- ie it only had to be in 1 playlist, it became 'syncable'. As soon as I added a 2nd rule again- be it a smart or normal playlist- it became 'unsyncable' again (disappeared from the sync list).
Apple please fix this ASAP. I cannot see this as being desirable behavior in any way, shape or form.
And while you are at it with the new improvements with iTunes 9 playlisting- please add an option to exclude certain 'match' parameters- eg match x and y, but exclude anything that matches z. Besides allowing for much better playlisting, that would (to a degree) also provide a workable workaround to the problem above.
    Yours faithfully,
    Mike

Cheers for chiming in- but I don't think that will solve this problem. I have no podcasts on my iPod- only mp3s. My problem is I have way too much music in my library- over 300GB. So I have all my iTunes smart playlists- eg genre Dubstep- but then I have an iPod version of each of these eg Dubstep iPod- which says match both criteria- playlist is Dubstep, & playlist is not 'Master not sync'. Every smart playlist on my iPod revolves around this playlist- whose rules are if any of the following 2 criteria match: rating is not between 1&2 stars; playlist is not the normal manual playlist called 'not for iPod sync'- where I drop any mp3s that I don't need on my iPod. This scheme worked perfectly before.
But I am gonna chew on what you said today- maybe there is a clue in there or maybe if I experiment with the 'music' rule. Either way- this is not an improvement- it's about 200 steps back. I still maintain that the problem I am seeing is not intentional coding. Something broke in the codebase & now iTunes 9 has playlist / syncing bugs which need fixing.
Either that, or Apple need to finally release a 500GB iPod- so I can get rid of my iPod specific playlists & sync all my iTunes playlists. Then I would even consider putting podcasts on there as well...;) Heck maybe even some video... crazy idea, I know.

  • ITunes downloaded tv shows not automatically syncing to iPod?

I just got the iPod Classic and downloaded 2 episodes from iTunes. I can play them on my computer but when I try to sync everything to my iPod, the tv shows don't show up on my iPod. The only way I have been able to get them on my iPod is by selecting "manually manage music and videos". When I do this I can view the shows just fine. However, I don't want to have to keep manually loading every single item onto my iPod as I get them onto iTunes. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I already tried right mouse clicking on tv shows under my ipod in the devices section and clicking sync and it said my ipod was synchronizing but the shows still did not show up on my ipod. Is this what you mean or are you referring to something else? I can't tell.

  • How do I automatically Sync IPod Touch with Outlook Calendar?

I am looking for ways to automatically sync my IPod Touch with my Outlook Calendar.  I used to be able to do this with MobileMe but the new MobileMe calendar has messed it all up.  The MobileMe calendar's interface with Outlook makes it so that I would have to manage two separate calendars.  All I want to be able to do is enter events into my IPod touch and have it sync with Outlook without my having to do it manually.  Anyone know of another software that I could use?

    Hi,
I don't know about syncing what you put on your iPod's Calendar to Outlook, but under Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calendars, you can sync Outlook with your iPod.
    Hope this helps!

  • Setting up automatic syncing

Everytime I connect my iPod touch it asks me to sign in to allow the sync to happen. Some times twice. I don't want to do that. Evertime I open iTunes it asks me to sign in. I don't want to do that either. How do I get around signing in evertime iTunes open?

Automatically syncing your iPhone when your iPhone is connected to iTunes is up to you. There is a selection for this under the Summary tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, and iTunes includes a global preference setting to not automatically sync any iPod or iPhone when connected.
If you didn't transfer your iTunes named folder (where all iTunes content is stored) from your old computer to your new computer, more than likely all iTunes content on your iPhone will be erased from your iPhone the first time you sync your iPhone with iTunes on your new computer even after authorizing your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes.

  • I want to sync my Ipod with my new computer.

My last computer was stolen in the fall, and I've managed to get a new computer.
I know that connecting my ipod will erase all of my music already on their, but I also have new music on my computer that I want to sync onto my ipod without losing anything.
I've transferred purchases, but not all of the music on my ipod was transferred (only1/10 was transferred.)
I do not know how to put the 4 new albums I've bought into my ipod, and I'm terrified of losing the music already in there.
    Help?

Hey there, this may have been answered since May 2012 but I will give you my solution that always works for me.....  I have 2 ipods synced with one computer.  I just received another one from my sister with cool music on it.  I wanted to add that music to my itunes library, but of course if I sync it with my computer all the music will be lost unlesssssss.........................
-- Plug in new ipod to your computer (make sure your iTunes is set to "not" automatically sync when ipod is plugged in)
-- minimize itunes window if it opens
-- on your desk top, make a new folder and call it whatever you want.... let's say, "new ipod"
-- go to start.... my computer... double click on the ipod icon
--See ipod control folder??  If it is faint, right click on it... go down to properties... in attributes, UNcheck the hidden box... apply.. ok
--go back and double click ipod control folder...
    --double click on Music folder...
--select all the folders... copy them... open that "new ipod" folder on the desktop and paste them in there... perfect
--open itunes... click file... add folder to library... click desktop... find "new ipod" folder... select folder and voila!!!!
--all the songs from the ipod will now be added to your iTunes library, You can make a new playlist of those new songs.
--now when you sync the ipod with this computer, it will replace all the songs on it, but who cares, you have those songs in your library!!  This does work perfectly without buying any program to do it for you!!
Sorry for being long winded, but it works... try it.. I have done this several times!

  • Automatic transcoding for iPod

I have most of my music library in ALAC which you probably know takes up a lot of space, to much for even an 80GB iPod. So, I would like to continue to automatically sync my iPod with iTunes but have iTunes transcode the lossless files to AAC on-the-fly for the iPod.
After much searching I am aware that iTunes does not have this functionality built in. I don't have the time or resources to manage both a lossless and lossy version of my library so I was wondering if anybody knew if there are any readily available applescripts or automator actions that will do this or even if it's (easily) doable with those two programs.
    Thanks for the suggestions!

Any external scripts etc. would at best result in adding additional copies to your iTunes library. The only utility that is going to sync to your iPod is iTunes itself.
This is a feature I also think Apple should add (I believe WMP has done this for ages).
Ironically I also believe Apple do partially do this already! The iPod Shuffle (original white plastic one and current aluminium one) do not support Apple Lossless at all due to their limited capacity. In this situation iTunes will already automatically transcode to AAC to send to the iPod, see http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300497 . So there is no reason why Apple could not make this available to users with all models of iPod for the same reason.
For example, even though the iPhone supports Apple Lossless (unlike the iPod Shuffle) it also has limited capacity and my music library is far too big to fit on an iPhone in Apple Lossless format).

  • I lost my itunes after syncing and older iphone to my powermac g4.  Originally I had an older ipod nano that I would sync to the g4 and everything was fine. Lost itunes music even though preferences had been set in advance for not automatically syncing.

My itunes library had been fine.  I had been using an older ipod nano to sync with my itunes library and had been doing manual syncs, with the preferences in itunes set for not allowing "ipods or iphones" to sync automatically.  I found out that apple had a program to replace the battery on this older ipod nano, so I sent it in.  It was great, they didn't have an exact replacement and sent me a later ipod nano.  However, this ipod nano is so new - I will have to get a newer computer with a later operating system to use it.
So, I thought I'd use my old iphone to listen to my old playlists.  I thought the preferences were set for not automatically syncing iphone to itunes.
I've had problems in the past with the syncs with this iphone and my computer because of the USB port (1.1).  I'm thinking this was the problem.
The apple store did something to update the software on my iphone when it wasn't working one day. I think that when I tried to sync the iphone to the g4 cube via the old port (1.1) it basically wiped out everything on my itunes.  Whatever was my selected playlist for my iphone - that was the only music
that remained on my computer and the iphone.  I only had about 20 songs purchased on my library, but alot of music that had been downloaded, I gave away those original cds.  I did have a back up on my external drive, but that thing died a few weeks ago from some random power outtages we had this fall.
I'm not looking to purchase retrieval software or have some outside third party to retrieve it for me.  It's not that much music lost.  I just wanted confirmation that this is what happened: that my old iphone sync is what erased the music.

The old iTunes library was lost with the old PC.  However, it all that music and content is still on your iPod there are many ways you can extract this content from the iPod and import it back into iTunes.
Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time.  It will recognize the iTunes library on the new PC as a new library.  If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library.  So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering the different methods and software available to assist you with the task of copying content from your iPod back to your PC and into iTunes.

Then i try and plug it into my pc with iTunes on (i've set it to do not automatically sync devices) but it still freezes every time. the only way to unfreeze it is by detatching the ipod or resetting with menu/centre (until it loads up again, where it immediately unfreezes and comes up with a load of messages saying "cannot read iPod" and when i try and restore it by pressing menu/centre button while it's plugged in, it says "cannot restore as it is being used by another program" or "error 1415". Is this an iLife installation disk or system install disk?  In either case download the demo version of   Pacifist and open the install package on the disk.  Locate iPhoto and use Pacifist to install iPhoto.  Then you'll need to apply the latest updater from the Apple Downloads webpage:
Apple - Support - Downloads.  Just search for the iPhoto version you installed to get the updaters for that version.
