Automatically turns off......

Howdy,
This has been happening since I did the latest update 3.0.1. Phone is on and I hit the home key after being in an app (doesn't matter which one) it seems to just turn off be itself. It's happened 3 times and it's random each time. Full battery each time as well. The only way I can get it back on is holding the home button and hitting the power button at the same time.
Any ideas? Is this a hardware issue or a bug or me? lol

The latest update was 3.1, not 3.0.1 - which one do you have? There are multiple threads reporting/discussing spontaneous shutdowns after the 3.1 update. Here's one with 114 pages and >1700 posts:

I suggest restoring in iTunes as a new iPhone, not from a backup. It's a bit of a PIA to reenter all settings, email accounts, etc., but eliminates any corrupted code in a backup.

  • Will an iPhone automatically turn off location services.  If it goes below a certain battery power level, and so how you disable this in settings.

I am working with Georgia DOT and we have created an app to track our state vehicles using IPhone 5. My question is: will an iPhone automatically turn off location services?  If it goes below a certain battery power level, and if so how do you disable this in settings.

I don't believe that this will happen, however, the entire iPhone will shut down when the iPhone reaches the auto-shutdown power level. There is no way to turn that Off other that connecting the iPhone to power.

Try a reset. Hold the sleep/wake and home buttons together until you see the Apple logo and then release. The phone will reboot. You may need to connect the device to the charger before you attempt the reset.

  • 6th generation iPod nano automatically turns off when I push het sleep/wake button or when screen turns black after a while. How can I solve this ?

My 6th generation iPod nano automatically turns off (=stops the music) when I push het sleep/wake button or when screen turns black for power saving mode. Does anyone know how to solve this ?
I have already tried resetting, connecting to PC/iTunes to check the software version, turning off/on, I don't have any inspiration anymore.
    Thanks for your suggestions!

    Hi VeerleD,
If your iPod touch unexpectedly powers off, you may want to use the steps in this article to troubleshoot -
iPhone: Hardware troubleshooting (The steps apply for the iPod touch) -
    Specifically -
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 30 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.
If restoring the iPhone resolved the issue, go to step 4. If restoring the iPhone did not solve the issue, seek service.
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

Does anyone know how to change the settings so it will turn off/dim/lock automatically without needing to press the white button at the top all day?  I'm draining batter and it's so annoying!

    Try:

  • Wifi automatically turned off when phone sleeps in iOS 5.1.1?

Before, I used iOS 5.0.1 and wifi would keep turned on when the phone sleeps if I turn off data. This way I could always receive instant notifications. But then I sold the verizon phone and bought a used FU one, installed with iOS 5.1.1. Now wifi is automatically turned off when phone the sleeps, even when data is off. Is this how it works? Because I want to use wifi, even when the phone is off. Thanks.

I have had and iphone 4 for the last couple of years with all the different IOS upgrades and never experienced such a thing!? I do not have a cell data plan (I even have it switched of in settings) so I rely on wifi and, even when the phone was in standby, the wifi was constantly on! and I received e-mails and skype calls as they arrived, So wifi was certainly ON!
However, since the last upgrade to IOS 6.0 the wifi is indeed being turned off when the phone goes to sleep mode, which is very annoying!
    Any fix/workaround?
    Thanks

  • HT1510 how do I continue to charge my ipod shuffle once the computer automatically turns off?

How do I continue to charge my ipod shuffle once the computer automatically turns off from lack of imput.

If the shuffle's light turns off, it is not charging.  The computer needs to be active, so that the USB port has power.  You'll need to set the computer so that it turns off the display after inactivity, but the computer remains "awake."
Or, you can get a USB power adapter, like this
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MD810LL/A/apple-5w-usb-power-adapter
and charge the shuffle on the power adapter.

  • ICloud keychain automatically turn off

    Hi,
I don't know why my iCloud keychain feature always automatically turn off after several weeks.
I turn it on many times, it works properly. However after around 3 weeks, I go to Setting -> iCloud, and Keychain is always off.
I turn it on again successfully but later it is automatically turned off.
I happen to me like 4 times.
This issue only happen after I upgrade to iOS 8. When I use iOS 7, this doesn't happen.
So, is there anyone encounter the same issue like me? If you have solution, please give me advice.
    Thanks
    Khuong

Mine turns off after a few hours, I've tried resetting iCloud keychain, turning off everywhere and re-enabling but on my iPhone 4s is wont stay on. I've raised a bug with Apple and waiting to see if it gets closed as a duplicate.

Take it in and see what the technicians say is wrong and then how they want to handle the iPhone.  If the iPhone has a problem covered by the warranty then you should have no problems.

  • Podcasts: I want them UPDATED automatically and not automatically TURNED OFF!

Apple's remote Podcast system management on a Mac is completely backward.
The system automatically turns OFF podcast, preventing them from updating (the little ! in a circle).
But it doesn't UPDATE any podcasts.

it's really quite odd that no-one has been able to come up with a response to this!
Podcasts have never worked very well for me, and even with the new app, they seem to be as naff as ever when it comes to file management!
