Automating Album Art Import

I have imported my entire CD collection to my iPod. What an awesome device!
Is there a way to automate the importing of album art for these CD's? It would take so long for me to find the album art for each CD and import them by hand.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Rob

ick, ebay and amazon have huge jpg images.
I prefer allmusic.com images.
Personal preference, though, where you get your pictures.
When I first got iTunes I used to scan my covers in with the highest bit rate imaginable. Until I saw what it was doing to my storage space when I added that image to every file.

  • Automatic ipod album art import?

I have a ton of songs (over 30GB worth) already on my ipod without artwork, because at the time I loaded them on my version of iTunes did not yet have the "get album artwork" functionality...
Now that the new version of iTunes does, however, I've found that you cannot update the album art automatically on the iPod, but I don't understand why not?
I've read other places that this is because "apple is trying to protect getting art for music you did not buy or acquired illegally" BUT I think that is bogus/ludicrous because nearly all the music on my ipod is ripped from CDs I own, so there's no reason I shouldn't be able to get artwork for them if I want to...
So, is there a way to get album art imported onto the ipod automatically, instead of doing it manually by downloading individual albums and then dragging it into the art window in iTunes? Seeing as I have almost 40GB of tunes this would take about 10 years that I don't want to waste. Any third part programs or pug-ins to help with this?
    Thanks,

i've downloaded a few manually and they do show on the ipod.
anyway, is there really no other application that can help with this?
i UNDERSTAND that itunes cannot do this...i'm asking about anything else out there that could help. it seems so stupid that itunes doesn't have this function...even for simplicity sake, if people forgot to put artwork on files in the beginning and then wanted to add them later...

  • Album Art Importing Question

Is there an easy way to import album art for cds I've loaded into my computer? There is a widget that imports art, although you have to manually type in every song. Is there a way to automatically do this?

There are lots of scripts and applications that can find artwork.
    To name a few:
Clutter, iTunesCool, Corripio, Find Album Artwork with Google
You may find more on versiontracker.com.
Clutter was my favorite, but recently I've been using Corripio with a higher success rate.
It's still in development (version 0.4.5) but looks promising.
    Hope this helps.

  • Album Art import with solution

    Hello,
After several search, I can't find an answer to my question.
I would like to import my collection to Itunes (Complete with artwork for all album, one directory per album with a jpeg file named cover.jpg)
How can I import the album art without having to manually drag&drop for each album? Is it possible to specify the name of the jpeg file to import while adding mp3s?
Winamp for example recognize a file named "cover.jpg" in the folder to be the artwork for that album. Make sense no?
    Any ideas?
    Many thanks.

So, I finally found a way to do this.
It's a batch process using MP3Tag on a PC. It will read the Jpeg and embed it in the mp3 for all your collection. It really rocks!

  • Slow album art import performance on new iTunes library

    Hi-
I am experiencing very slow performance when importing album artwork on a recently migrated iTunes library. First some background:
I am running iTunes 7.5.0.20 on WinXP although the exact problem I am experiencing was happening on 7.4 prior to me upgrading.
I have just added a new internal HD to my PC for additional storage. I currently have 2 iTunes libraries on my machine. My original library on the old HD and a new library on the new HD. For the time being, I have an exact copy of all my music files on both my old and new HD which the old and new iTunes libraries reference repsectively. I can toggle between the two libraries no problem by using the hold down shift key method when starting iTunes. I am planning on migrating to the new library/drive (and deleting all music off the old drive) as soon as I feel confident that everything is working correctly on the new drive.
As a side note, I like to manage my own file naming/structure so I do not have the "Keep iTunes Music Folder organized" option checked and I have not consolodated my entire music library under the iTunes folder.
    I am experiencing 2 oddities:
    1. Whenever I manually import/paste album artwork for an album on the new drive, I get 2 dialog/status boxes for each track. One that says, "Writing ID tags..." and the next says "<Track name>". It takes a good 90 seconds to add album art for 10-12 songs.
On the old drive, if I import the exact same album art for the other copy of the same album, I only get the "<Track name>" dialog box and it completes 4-5 times faster than on the new drive.
    2. Everytime I shut down iTunes on the new hard drive/library I get a "Saving iTunes Library..." dialog regardless of if I modify any tags, listen to music, or don't do anything at all.
On the old drive, I only rarely get this dialog, and only after I make obvious changes to the library.
I am really only concerned about issue #1, although my hunch is that these two issues are related. I have attempted to troubleshoot this a ton of different ways to no avail. Any help would be much appreciated.
    thanks!

Just RIGHT click the song, and near the bottom of the drop-down menu, hit "get album artwork".

  • Automating album name importing - is this possible?

OK, I have a lot (A LOT) of tracks in my library. I am trying to populate the tags for the album name for as many as possible, so that they are easier to find on my iPod and in the iTunes library.
Doing it one at a time using the itunes store is painfully slow. What I would love is some program that will go through my library and examine the song name and artist name, access CDDB and give me a list of possible albums that the song is from. I would click one, and the program would fill that info in to the tag and I'd go to the next one.
8000 songs - a program that could do exactly the above would probably turn this from a 6 month job (done in small bits, 5-10 songs per day) to a weekend job, maybe 3 hours total. That would be AWESOME.
****, I could even program it, if my last programming class wasn't turbo pascal, 12 years ago!
Any ideas? Is this possible? Did I post this in the right forum?

Cmon, don't you think I tried Google?
I hate to sound ungrateful for the "suggestion" but someone who posts on a forum is not looking for "check out google" I did, and there's nothing there, so if you have a specific suggestion, I'd love to hear it.
As for finding album art - yeah, it probably takes two minutes or so. I have 7000 songs, and if you figure they average two per album, that works out to 3500 albums I need to look up. At two minutes each, that works out to 116 hours.

  • Album art present in album folder, not displaying on iTunes import

I've got several albums which contain various JPGs of album art. I transfered all my files to an external drive before doing an erase and install for Leopard. Now once they are imported, the album art isn't displaying! Other than manually setting every album, is there a way to automate this process?

I don't think this is possible. The artwork needs to be stored in the iTunes folder on your computer hard drive in order for it to be displayed on the iPod.
    It's in music/iTunes/iTunes artwork.

  • Album art doesn't automatically download after import

Whenever I import a new C.D., the album art for that album doesn't automatically download, even though I have that option checked as yes in my iTunes preferences. So, I wind up having to get the album art myself. What gives? Anyone else having similar problems? Any suggestions?

Using windows version, I can't update multiple songs either. Neither drag-and-drop from an IE window or copy&paste work when several songs are highlighted, but it works fine when it's only one. I haven't tried to update multiple via the "info" screen yet (at work atm). It seems to affect both mac and PC :/ it worked fine on v6.

  • Getting album art for imported music

I imported my wma music when I switched to iTunes. However, only one or two of the imported albums have album art. I enable the automatic album art retrieval tool in store/preferences, but I am still not getting album art on the imported music. I also imported some cd's, which, as I understand it, should get album art automatically; it hasn't happened. It it me? Hope someone can help. Thanks.

Are these items sold in the itunes store? It only fetches artwork on things it sells, so no AC/DC or Beatles artwork will be fetched.
Second, your tags have to exactly match whatever is in the iTS database. For example - a while back iTS had Led Zeppelin's Mothership listed under "Lead Zeppelin", so nobody was getting any artwork for it. They have fixed that one....

  • Cannot import album art since new Itunes version

Since last update, I can no longer import picture files of any type as album art.  Any thoughts?  The file comes in as a black background.

I am having the same issue. If I close itunes and open with a new CD already in the drive, it will find it. But once that CD has been imported and ejected, itunes does not find the newly inserted CD and there is no command to tell itunes to "look" in the CD drive

  • Album art not importing

I have gigs of wma files on my PC that have the album art associated. When I convert the files in Itumes it does not pick up the album art. I can manually copy the album art after the conversion, but is there a way it should just copy over?
Also if I use a CD and import directly from it, Itunes also does not get any album art from the CD. (the same CD will bring over album art in Windows Media Player). What is necessary to make ITunes see/find/copy the album art?
    Thanks

So are you saying that ITunes does not import the artwork of any CDs that you rip (your own CD collection). So in order to get my 400 plus CDs into my IPOD with artwork I would have to manually find the files on line and paste into the Get Info. All this no matter what setting or file format?
    Yep.
Thanks for the help, but i am not looking for additional software tools have to manage the artwork seperately, I would expect that Itunes can copy the artwork during the rip just like Windows Media Player does. Doesn't seem like a far out expectation.
You can have all the expectations in the world. Doesn't change the facts of the matter.
Windows Media Player gets the album artwork because Microsoft went to a lot of trouble and set up a deal with AMG specifically to be able to use their datasets for importing and other such stuff. It goes to the internet and retrieves info from windowsmedia.com, which is a Microsoft webserver hooked to AMG's database, essentially.
Apple went with Gracenote instead, which has a much more limited amount of data (which they stole from the rightful owners of that information in the formation of the company).
Short of it is that iTunes does not automatically get album art from anywhere. iTunes can't even get track names unless you specifically use iTunes to rip the CD. If you rip the CD elsewhere, import it into iTunes, iTunes can't go lookup the track info on Gracenote. WMP can do that just fine.
In many ways, Windows Media Player is far superior to iTunes. Don't act so shocked.
If you must use iTunes, I highly suggest getting a program called Tag&Rename. It will let you lookup albums after ripping them and it will get the album art from Amazon. Tag&Rename will then allow you to add the art to the files in a way that is fully compatible with iTunes. It works pretty well.

  • Importing Album Art

Up until the latest up-date 9.2.1(5) for OS X 10.4.11 I have been able to import a .JPG file to play lists created from ROIO files from peer-to-peer sources. I.e. I have imported the .wav files to iTunes and using "File>Get Info" could drag a .JPG file into the art box. Now I consistently get the message "album art not modifiable". What's up with this? Not good, not good at all.

I got this from another user, but it works wonders.
Go to Amazon, type in your search term in the Popular Music category. Locate the album you're looking for. Click the album cover image, which usually brings up a higher-resolution image. Right-click, hit Copy. In iTunes, right-click the song, then Get Info > Artwork, and hit Paste. Mission accomplished. You can actually select all the songs in the album and then go to Get Info > Artwork and it will add the artwork to all the songs. I hope this works for you. Good Luck!!

  • I am trying to import my cd's onto itunes on a new macbook pro. i can import the cd fine but can not get track names or album art work. after going into advanced it is just coming up with "CDDB information not available"

Use the trackpad to scroll, thats what it was designed for. The scroll bars automatically disappear when not being used and will appear if you scroll up or down using the trackpad.
This is a user-to-user forum and most people will post on here if they have problems. You very rarely get people posting to say there update went smooth. The fact is the vast majority of Mountain Lion users will not be experiencing any major problems with the OS, or maybe with apps which are not compatible, but thats hardly Apple's fault if developers don't update their apps.

  • Painless way to import album art?

I have a big folder of songs, and most of them have album art. When i play them on windows media player it displays the album art but when i import the song into itunes the album art doesnt come with it. I can see the album art if i unhide system files and then manually add it to the song in itunes. Im wondering if there is a way to automatically do this. The only way album is automatically improted is when you buy the song off itunes. I can rip a cd on WMP and it will get the album art but if i rip it on Itunes it doesnt get the album art. Is there a program or an option so that i can get this to work? Thanks in advance!
