Automating Business Rules

I am trying to use the CmdLnLauncher utility in a .bat file to run business rules with run-time prompts. The problem is I cannot get the launcher to run when the variable I am trying to pass in through the run-time prompt has a space or "-" character in it<BR>Beow is the data stored in the .xml file with TBHSal being the business rule and EmpSelMerit being the Variable name. <BR><BR>TBHSal<BR>ExecDB::"Planning/03s03thfmpln01/PL_Spare/Wrkforce"<BR>EmpSelMerit::"Thompson_Fred (5448)"<BR><BR>"Thompson_Fred (5448)" is the entity I am trying to run the business rule on, but the launcher errors out because of either the space between the first name and the employee id or the fact that there are parentheses. Same holds true if I try to use an entity that has a "-". If I run the launcher on the same business rule using an entity that does not have any special characters, it works fine. Unfortunately changing the format of my entities is not an option.<BR><BR>So the question is, is there any way to enclose the entity, either with double quotes, single quotes, or parentheses to get this to work.<BR><BR>Thanks for your help.<BR><BR><BR>

Did you test launching the rule from a Form, passing the same member name "Thompson_Fred(5448)" for the Variable? Just to ensure that there is not a problem with the member ID.<BR><BR>On a side note, I know you mentioned member ID's could not change, but wouldn't there be more value in having the Employee Name as the Member ID and the employee # as an Alias (or vice versa). This way you could search, calculate, report, etc on either Name or ID. - just a thought)<BR>

No, not in 10.1.3 and not in the first planned 11 release. It is on the list of candidate features for future releases.

  • Automating consolidation entries using business rules

    Hi all,
May I know whether it is possible to automate the following standard consolidation entries in SAP BPC using Automatic Adjustments Business Rules tables:
    1. Attribution of profit after tax to Equity Holders and Minority Interest;
    2. Appropriation of changes in post-acquisition Reserves to Minority Interest; and
    3. Elimination of parent company's Investment in Subsidiaries against subsidiaries' pre-acquisition Share Capital and Reserves.
The mechanics of these entries are:
    1. [Profit after Tax|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/] x POWN% -&gt; post to [Retained Earnings|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/] and [Profit after Tax|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/] x Minority Interest % -&gt; post to [Minority Interest|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/]
    2. [Post-acquisition changes in Reserves|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/] x Minority Interest % -&gt; post to [Minority Interest|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/]
    3. Parent company's [Investment in Subsidiaries|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/] -&gt; post to [Goodwill|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/], Subsidiaries' [Pre-acquisition Share Capital and Reserves|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/] x POWN% -&gt; post to [Goodwill|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/] and Subsidiaries' [Pre-acquisition Share Capital and Reserves|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/] x Minority Interest % -&gt; post to [Minority Interest|https://forums.sdn.sap.com/].
    The questions are:
How do I specify the Minority Interest % in the Automatic Adjustments Business Rules Table.
How do I specify that I am using Direct PCON% and Direct Minority Interest % for some entries and Indirect POWN% and Indirect Minority Interest % for some other entries?
How do I post one entry to the same level in the ENTITY hierarchy in which the ENTITY resides for subsidiaries and post the same entry to the immediate next higher level for the Parent Company in that level?
    Thank you.

  • Business rule assignment in Process Control 10.0, does not show any Control

    Hi All,
I have created Organization, and assigned Mitigation control, as shown below. I have also created data Source and Business rule. But Business rule assignment is Blank for Controls. So, could you suggest, how can i see the Controls for the Business rule
    Regards
    Plaban

You'll need to ensure the timeframes are aligned. What is the valid from date of your organisation and equally so important from your (sub)proces and your control. You are trying to do an assignment as per the first of january 2015. You'll not find entities that are created after Jan 1 2015.
Furthermore you can only select controls that are either earmarked to be tested automated or semi-automated.
Finally you're refering to mitigating controls. So that would imply you have integrated the AC mitigating controls with PC or vice versa. What is the creation date of the mitigating control and per which date has it been assigned to the local subprocess?
In order to provide a precise answer we'd need more details on the exact process you've follow. There are simply more than on possible root causes depending on what you've done.
    Hope this helps.

  • Business Rules Engines?

    Hi,
I have experience with embedding "CLIPS" which is a C rules engine as a
Forte Service Object which was easily wrappered using standard Forte
    wrapper strategy.
Also, we have a sales rep in ATL who used to work @ ILOG and therefore
competed with Nueron Data, and from various conversations with mutual Forte
/ Rules Engine customers I've learned it would be a complimentary integration.
They all have some C-callable API and so a Forte Service Object would be a
good client to the rules engine api due to our support for multi-threading
when API is thread safe and additional option of replicating for load-bal
when API isn't thread safe. The later concept is analogous to our use of
DBSession object for interface with DBMS client api's.
Be aware, the experiences I hear about with the mentioned rules engines is
that there are not always business analysts truly capable of using the
Rules development interfaces provided by the tools.
So maybe the use of Forte Conductor's dynamic Process automation
capabilities may also be a fit. If you want to discuss how, let me know.

  • Difference between use of decision table and if/then in business rules

    Hello ,
Could some one please explain me difference between use of decision table and if/then in business rules in short.
    - Shirish

    Hi,
They are equivalent, pretty much what you can do with a decision table you can also do with if/then...
However, decision tables provide automated features that can reduce the number of required rules, as compared to the if/then rules (this is called rule coalescing).
Have a look on this document... Search for 5.1.1 What is a Decision Table?

  • Not able to invoke business rules from BPM

    Hi,
I have a simple business rule (Used Bank class in Alias and created a simple rule set) and able to invoke successfully from webdynpro application.
But the problem comes when I try to run the same webdynpro application (as a part of BPM process) from UWL, it always throws ClassNotFoundException for Bank Class.
The thing is that I'm able to run webdynpro application properly (and is doesnt  throw error) as standalone but when I run the same application from UWL (I have binded UI to BPM process), it throws class not found error.
Thanks for your time and help.
    Best Regards,
    Shiva

    Hi Shiva,
sorry to bother but how did you integrate the rule in the BPM? I'm trying to use a rule as automated activity but I'm unable to create the Webservice from the rule...

  • Business Rules Migration

    Hi gurus,
I need to migrate business rules from one environment to another.
Apart from doing so in EAS, what would be the other way of migrating it?
    Any suggestion would be appreciated.
I could do it with EAS, however the EAS has not been working in the target environment, so we are trying to see if we can migrate from planning/hss etc so that we could migrate and test while we are taking care of the EAS issue.
    Thank you.

If EAS is not working in the target environment then I don't see much point in trying to migrate the rules, you would not be able to import them if EAS is not working.
The only options are exporting/importing through EAS, LCM (which pretty much does the same thing as EAS but can be automated), alternatively there is the option to migrate the full repository - Migrating the Repository

  • Migrate business rules (disaster recovery)

I need a plan to be able to recover all my business rules/macros/sequences/projects/security in case of a disaster. Can some one suggest the best way to do this? I'll appreciate if some one can provide a step by step solution that can be automated.
    thanks
    Edited by: user507721 on Dec 2, 2010 1:14 PM

9.3. That's what we do right now. But it involves manual intervention. Since I want it for DR, I wanted to automate the export so that I don't have to kick it off regularly and have an xml from production in case of any disaster. Is there a way to automate this process?

  • Migrate Business Rules by generating XML

    Hi BRF plus experts,
for a project I am currently assigned to I am trying to find an easy way to convert business rules from a legacy systen into BRF Plus v7.
Using XML export functionality and a few simple decision tables and rules the XML structure of exported expression is clear to me. Using the legacy system I can create an Excel extract with contains the required rules characteristics. Due to the large amount of rules (600+) and the fact that the rules as part of the migration are being cleansed I am looking for an automated way of generating an XML file containing the required rules and then import these.
Using VBA is not too difficult to generate the correct XML structure and data.
A problem I am facing however is to understand the identifiers, for example
    <FDTNS:APPLICATION_ID>4AA45F9249F46590E10000000A71030D</FDTNS:APPLICATION_ID>
    <FDTNS:ID>4BE03E7AEBD93E36E10000000A71030D</FDTNS:ID>
    <FDTNS:EXPRESSION_TYPE_ID>0000EEEE001000FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF</FDTNS:EXPRESSION_TYPE_ID>
    <FDTNS:RESULT_DATA_OBJECT>4AA8B5FD8800276EE10000000A71030D</FDTNS:RESULT_DATA_OBJECT>
Can somebody provide an explanation on the structure of these ID's? I am assuming there must be a type identifier and some kind of counter included.
Many thx for some support on this.
    Regards
    Edde Voorheijen

    Hi Edde,
what version of BRFplus are you planning to use? I only can assume that "v7" refers to NW 7.0. But the important point here is the Enhancement Package you are on.
I would do it in the following way:
    1. Create an XML or cvs file with a well defined structure.
    2. Create an ABAP report to upload and convert the data into ABAP (there is lots of reuse available).
    3. Create the rules with the BRFplus ABAP API (see package SFDT_DEMO_OBJECTS). Therefore you first should model some parts to:
    - understand how the rules could look like in BRFplus
    - create some parts like function and data objects that you do not need to create by API but just use
The large volume indicates that you need to use BRFplus in NW 7.0 EhP 2. There you also find a big variety of options in the ruleset that will make the upload easy.
The ID is a technical ID that is generated. Actually it is a UUID.
    BR,
    Carsten

    Hi Raju,
You could investigate the use of the Java API of Oracle Business Rules, see http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/apirefs.1111/e10663/toc.htm. It contains classes and methods to interact with bucket sets in an automated fashion.

  • OPA vs Siebel 8.1 Haley Business Rule

    Experts
do you know if Siebel 8.1 Haley Business Rule Engine supports the same function like OPA which allows users using Word to write rules and import the word to OPA to execute the rules ?
    Thanks for your advice
    Cheers,
    Eddie

    Hi Eddie
The Haley Business Rules Engine in Siebel 8.1 is a completely separate product family to OPA. It is not possible to write rules in Word in the Haley Business Rules engine like you can in OPA.
The Haley Business Rules Engine has been discontinued by Oracle and will not be updated in future releases of Siebel. If you are considering using it, you should think about using OPA instead which is the ongoing product.
