Automating folders in the Source Window

Now that we can finally create folders in the source window I am hoping to create folders by artists without manually typing every one. Is there another way to do it? A script or anything?
Thanks.

I agree with MacMuse. The Browse window was designed for just the kind of sorting you want to do.
I am also afraid that the number of tracks, playlists, and folders you are proposing would slow down iTunes reaction times because of the shear amount of data that it is storing in its flat database. For example, with any playlist or folder highlighted, you can type in the first few letters and iTunes will jump to the playlist or folder that matches what you typed, or the closest match if nothing matches exactly. Already there is a couple second delay in jumping to the matching playlist in iTunes for me, and I have less than 100 playlists and folders. Right now, clicking on a different playlist causes that playlist to open very quickly, but it is not immediate. Already with my almost 100 playlists and folders, if I pay attention, I do notice a slight delay. What would these delays become with the number of folders and playlists you are contemplating?

  • Roll Name in the Source Window

Is there a way to automatically show all of my roll names in the source window? I would like to be able to just click on a roll name in the source window and be able to see those particular photos in the main iPhoto window.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
No, Rolls don't get listed in the Source Pane.
However, there is a way to view just the roll you want. Choose Library from the Source Pane and View > Film Rolls. (The entire library must be selected, with no filter in operation. Be sure all Year Smart Albums are selected - look below Library in the Source Pane. Click the little triangle to reveal or hide them.) Each roll has a disclosure triangle next to its title. Click it to open or close the roll. Option-click one triangle to open or close all rolls in your library. With all rolls closed, it is easy to scroll through the roll list, open one roll, and see just the photos in that roll.
To make it easier, I title all of my film rolls. Click the little i in the lower left corner to open the Info Pane. When you select a roll's header in the main window you can edit its title, roll date, and comments by typing directly in the Info Pane. Comments are especially handy; they display only when the roll is closed. I use comments to list the contents of a roll, so that I know which roll to open when I want to find a particular photo.
If you still want your rolls in the Source Pane, you can drag the roll's header there and an Album will be created with the same name and photos. To create Albums that automatically update when you change the photos in the rolls, you would have to create a Smart Album for each roll with the category "Roll contains (type the roll name)". That seems too cumbersome, in my opinion.
    Regards.

  • Can i edit a synched video from plural eyes in the source window first?

I synched my audio and video files in plural eyes which gave me a synched fill or sequence which is great, but I really want to edit it in the source window before putting it into the Program window. How can I edit it in the source window first?

You mean trim it? Like grabbing a certain section of the syned clip?
If so, bring it up on the source monitor, go to your in point and click "I" and then go to your out point and click "O". Then grab the preview image and drag it to your timeline. You can also press "," or "." to bring it down there.

  • Loading sequences into the source window...

Hi, does anyone know if I can load a sequence into the source window in Premiere Pro and then be able to type a specific timecode into the window and have the timecode indicator go to that frame of the sequence?  This is easily achievable in Avid and FCP but haven't been able to figure it out in Premiere.

And once you're on the correct frame in the source monitor, you can match it in the Timeline using the Reverse Match Frame command.
To use Reverse Match Frame, follow these steps:
Ensure that you have a clip loaded in the Source monitor.
In the Source Monitor, place the playhead on the frame that you want to find in the Timeline.
Select Sequence > Reverse Time Frame, or use the keyboard shortcut Shift+R. Premiere Pro moves the playhead on the Timeline to that exact frame.

  • Imported MOV files are running choppy and I can't edit in the source window..anybody can you walk me thru how to fix?

My MOV files are choppy in the SOURCE window where I'm trying to edit.  Please help....I have a camera that I use for that is drone footage no audio and it imports fine; never choppy easy to edit.  Now I'm trying to import video from my Lumix; it's bringing in audio that I don't need but the files are choppy and am unable to edit.  Have been watching tutorials but I can't seem to fix the problem still.

Thanks for your patience with me.  I have tried what you mentioned and dragging the clips in question to the new item icon.  Sometimes it works fine and others it gets hung up again.  However, I'm used to editing when the file is in the source area (upper left corner ...see file attached...screenshot).  When I do the task you mentioned it immediately puts the entire clip before I edit in the lower right and it doesn't appear i can edit as easily.  Does that make sense?
I'm starting to think my computer isn't powerful enough?  ):

  • REG: 4 different folders from the source side and we need to have the BPM t

    Hi All,
We are using a BPM for file-idoc scenario. Previously we use to have one source folder which sends file and the bpm worked fine. Now we have a requirement where the files come from 4 different folders from the source side and we need to have the BPM to run independently for each folder.
What are the changes to be made in IR and id for this..
    Thanks & Regards,
    Kiran.

File adapter has a option advance selection of source file setting which can be used for picking files from different folder.

  • Program window is slightly zoomed in versus the source window

Hello, I've used final cut for years and have switched over to premiere, I have cs5.5.  My question is:  I have imported the .mov file and viewed it in the source window, it looks great, when I put that into the timeline, double click it into the program window, the entire image is zoomed in a little, cutting off parts of the edges and the top and bottom, I exported the file thinking it would revert back to the original, but it's still zoomed in.  Is there settings that can match the source to the program?  What am I doing?  Thanks so much, Newbie

Well, the Source Monitor shows the file, in a player, from the HDD. The Program Monitor shows the Timeline, and the Clips on it, for editing. They are different.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Want to open folders in the SAME window

I just did a clean install of Leopard, and now whenever I open a folder I get a new window! I doesn't matter what the status of the checkbox "Always open folders in a new window" is in the Finder preferences. I ALWAYS get a new window. Are there any preferences to delete, or other option to stop this?

I need help on this also. I had the problem on 10.4 and hoped that it would go away with Leopard. It has not.
I tried trashing the finder preferences in USER Library and restarting to no avail.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • Effects Control panel in the source window

Is there a way to prevent Premeire 5.5 from burying the Effects tab on the source/viewer window (the one on the left) - I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but I have to keep expanding that panel's workspace just to find the effects tab.
Thanks everyone for all your help!

  • How do I mark and play audio clips simultaneously without stopping playback in the source window?

I do a lot of editing to music and I liked the function of being able to mark audio clips by tapping M while the song was playing. I was able to do this in CS4. When I upgraded to CS6 qnd I pressed the m key it would leave a marker but stop playback. Any idea how to customize this would be greatly appreciated.

Open the file from the Project Window.

  • Is it possible to mute audio in the source window?

I don't always want to hear the audio from a source clip when I am marking in and out points.  Is there a way to mute it while I watch the clip at real-time speed?

Make sure you have opened the clip mixer and not the track mixer.
    edit.
It depends on the version of Premiere, the clip mixer is a feature of the newer versions.

  • Premiere Pro won't let me drag an imported video from the Source window to my timeline

I've tried to insert it, but it won't me do that either. It just gives me a "Do not Enter" sign next to my cursor. Any ideas?

It sounds like you have not created a Sequence.
Be sure that your Sequence settings match your footage by doing this:
Or, right-click a media file and select 'New Sequence From Clip".
How do I choose the right sequence settings?

  • Rolls in the Source panel?

    Hello,
A fairly simple question, but I'm kind of stumped: how can I get individual rolls to show up in the source panel on the left of iPhoto? I've imported some folders from my PC, and they are automatically reorganized as new rolls in iPhoto, but the Source panel only presents me with the following options: 2006, Last Roll, Last 12 Months, and so on. How can I set it up so that each of my rolls is displayed as a separate item in the Source panel?

    Jakey1980:
What argento is describing is creating an "album" and then dragging the photos from the roll into that album. You can have virtual folders in the Source window that can contain albums, slideshows, etc. and other subfolders. But actual Rolls are limited to the main library. Here's what some folders and albums would look like.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.

  • Can you put subfolders into you folders in the Zen V Plus..

for instance videos. Can you have diff sub folders named like music...etc under videos? Thanks

    Yes- Easy!
When you have your Creative Media Explorer open and your portable device connected, you will see your Zen V Series Media Explorer in the SOURCE window in the upper LH corner. Click on the "+" in front of the Zen V Series icon and it will display the list of folders on the device.
Right click on the main folder for the category you want to put the sub folder in and you will get a drop down menu.
Select "New folder" and you will get the "New Folder" box asking you what name you want for your new folder. It's that easy.
