Automating setup of routers

Hi
I need to setup a large number of routers for field users.
I want to know a way of creating an automated file such as a batch file which will setup the router by a single double click of an icon.
Thanks

Hi ...if you look under the administration tab of the linksys router....there's an option called "config management" .
You can configure one router ....take a config backup and restore ...
however i guess the hardware versions and the firmware versions have to be identical.
i have never tried to backup up a config of one router and flashing to another...so be careful ...it could also cause damage.

  • VMS 2.2 import configs from routers setup by CSPM 3.0

Our VPN routers all have more than one Pre-shared key, one for each VPN partner router. I read that VMS 2.2 only supports one preshared key on import. How then to I setup the routers to have more than one VPN partner? Do I have to use the same preshared key even if one router has multiple spokes and some of those spokes acutally act as hubs themselves?

To the best of my knowledge, Management Center for VPN Routers 1.1 allows different keys to be specified. For more information on setting up the same, please see the documentation at http://www.cisco.com/univercd/cc/td/doc/product/rtrmgmt/cw2000/cw2000_b/vpnman/vms_2_1/rmc1_1/user_gd/index.htm

  • WiFi setup

I have the same problem. I am at my home with an unsecured wireless network, my BB recognizes the wi-fi but will not allow me to connect and surf the web. We have an iphone and samsung handsets and both are simple to hook into wi-fi, but the BB, not very easy. If one can't connect at home, what hope is there at hotspots or in public? Its simple things like this that push me away from BB devices. My wife uses our Curve cause she isn't concerned about wi-fi but the other 3 members of our household won't use it cause it doesn't work!!

    thanks for the reply guys..
That's what I was thinking, I should setup my routers as LAN-WAN, but I already tried several times, it would not work.
I thinks there's something wrong with my configuration in Linksys E2500 router.
    Here's the details:
Our company gave me the details
    Gateway/DNS: 10.142.117.113 /28
    Subnet mask: 255.255.255.240
    DHCP Range: 10.142.117.112-127
I tried to configure in cascade using Linksys E2500 router as LAN-WAN.
If I change the IP address of the router to 10.142.118.113, the gateway/DNS would change also, so, no internet or different network.
Is this really possible in linksys E2500 router?
or What IP address and Subnet mask should I use in E2500 linksys router to have LAN - WAN setup?
thank you very much for help.

  • WRT54G Wireless Router -- Do not have setup disk, what do I do?

I just moved into a new apartment and my father had an extra wireless router lying around but misplaced the setup disk. The only time I have ever set up a home network it has been with the use of an automated setup wizard. Is there any way I can download this software, or someone can give me step by step instructions on how to get this thing up and going?
Any help would be much appreciated!!!

You do not need the setup CD to install your router, you can configure it manually...

  • How to setup IOS DHCP server for redundancy?

    Hi
The customer has 2 core (cat6). Plan to enable DHCP service on them for IP phones.
How to setup them so there is a redundancy for DHCP service?
    Thanks in advance!

Setup two routers and have them split the range of addresses that they lease out. The pools should be non overlapping.

  • Mail and Automator

    Hi all,
    BACKGROUND
I compose some information e-mails that I distribute to a bunch of people that are all in a group/distributionlist in my Addressbook.
I used to just create the e-mail, put my own e-mail address in the TO field and then add the whole group/distributionlist from my addressbok in the BCC field. This in order to not share other peoples e-mail addresses.
Now I've encountered the scenario that some SPAM filters do filter out my e-mails, just because they receiving e-mail is not in the TO field.
    *_WHAT I WANT TO ACHIEVE_*
I would like to have an automator setup so that I just create an e-mail and point to the group/distributionlist in my addressbok and then automator creates one unique e-mail to each of the members in the group/distributionlist by putting the e-mail address in the TO field.
So, the automator needs to cycle through all the contacts in the group/distributionlist. It means that if I have 50 contacts, automater will use one e-mail and send it 50 times, one per every unique contact in the group/distributionlist.
Anyone who has an idea how to solve this??
    Sincerely,
    Andreas

Creating the unique email may not be achievable. Have you tried setting Mail Preferences/Composing to not show the addresses in a Group from AB, and put that in the To header? I do this, and the resulting email is shown as being addressed to Undesignated Recipients. This may not guarantee that some SPAM filter will not block, but it works for me with my Groups.

  • Automation of metadata update through HAL in planning

    hi,
anybody help me ,i want to update the planning dimensins through automation setup by using HAL.we are using SQL server 2005 and planning version is 9.3.1.
    appreciating help
    Thanks
    Sunbbu.

    Hi Subbu,
I posted how to load dimensions into planning from sql server in my blog.
    http://dornakal.blogspot.com/2009/02/load-dimension-members-into-planning.html
after developing this you have to create an executible file to run HAL job.
you can call the executible file from batch file and can schedule batch file.
    hope this helps.

  • SF-300-08 Setup

I have a new sf-300 switch that i am running to a fios modem.  I am then going to setup multiple routers using static ips and plug them into the switch.  My question is this.  I am setting up vlans on the switch to keep the ports seperate from one another but wanted to make sure i am doing it properly.  Here is how it will be laid out.
Ports 1-4 all deal with static ip addresses to provide internet
1 - Uplink to the fios modem
    2 - Connected to ASA 5505 eth0/0 for internet at location A - 1.1.1.1
    3 - Connected to ASA 5505 eth0/0 for internet at location B - 2.2.2.1
4 - Connected to Untangle Gateway wan for customer internet at locations A and B - 3.3.3.1
Ports 5-8 all deal with access points and customer internet
    5 - Connected to Untagle Gateway Lan - 4.4.4.1
    6 - access point for store A - 4.4.4.2
    7 - access point for store B - 4.4.4.3
8 - management port for lan needs to be seperate from all other ports
I setup 2 new vlans in the switch
    vlan 1 - default
    vlan 2 - fios
    vlan 3 - customer
I want to leave port 8 on the default vlan and use it for management.  I changed ports 1-4 to tagged for vlan2 and ports 5-7 to tagged for vlan3.
Are these the only changes that i need to make to keep these ports seperated in the manner that i want or am i missing something in this websetup.  I almost think it would be easier with the CLI to setup the ports though the web interface is nice i am just not used to it.  Also - do i need
to remove PVID access for all of the ports except port 8 (the management port for my scenario) - any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks
    Geoff

  • I am trying to extend my airport extreme signal to another airport extreme can this be done? I have tried several time using the automated set up but it keeps failing... What am I doing wrong?

I am trying to extend my airport extreme signal to another airport extreme can this be done? I have tried several time using the automated set up but it keeps failing... I have selected every possible security/password encryption level... What am I doing wrong? If it os possible where can I find step by step instructions? Please & Thank you!

The challenge with the older round AirPort Extremes are that they are "g" wireless devices.
When you configure them for WDS, the speed on the wireless network is cut in half...and probably will not have the bandwidth required to stream video reliably from either AirPort Extreme since both are affected by the WDS setup.
There is not an "automated" setup for WDS. You have to do this manually on both AirPort Extremes. Unfortunately, it is not an easy configuration and it's easy to make a mistake and hard to recover without starting all over again.
Apple's instructions for WDS are here if you want to give it a try.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4262
It is possible that it might work. Keep us posted on your progress
Adding a single AirPort Express will unfortunately not help. You have to have "n" wireless devices at all router points.

  • MDT 2012 Windows 7 Deployment Stops At User Account and Computer Name Setup Page

I was given a sysprepped custom Windows 7 WIM image that was set up by a third party that didn't use MDT to create the WIM.
I created a task sequence to deploy it, but it never finishes.  After the OS installs and it reboots, it comes up to the white setup page asking for a user name and computer name that looks like this image:
Is there a setting in MDT that can change that behavior?

Are you joining the computer to a domain?
It sounds like MDT did not create the unattend.xml file itself (or is there an unattend file already in the image itself?)
MDT needs to be able to autologin with the local admin account
From MDT in your task sequence - OS info - Edit unattend.xml you can check if your unattended file is correct.
    Check what's in there for:
    - computer name in 4 Specialize area - Windows-Shell-Setup_neutral (it should be empty  if you want MDT to handle it).
    - Also i think you need to have in the Specialize section, under Microsoft-Windows-Deployment_neutral - Run Synchronous an EnableAdmin insert
This will enable the local admin account
    - Also check in phase 7 oobe System in Shell-Setup_neutral
There should be an autologon with a count of 999
Check if you have any Local Accounts there.
    Finally read this:
When I am joining clients to a domain, can I avoid creating a local user
    account on the computer?
Yes. To do this, create an image unattend file that adds a domain account to the Administrators group. In addition, you must delete the <LocalAccounts> section if it is present in your
unattend file (simply commenting it out will not work). An example file is below. Note that if domain join fails, Windows Deployment Services will not use the unattend file so you will be able to create a local account. For more information about creating
    unattend files, see Automating Setup.
    <?xml version='1.0' encoding='utf-8'?>

  • WPA Security w/ Non-Apple Wireless Base?

I'm upgrading from an original Airport BS and was curious to see if anyone has purchased a wireless "N" station from another compatible brand such as Netgear?
My question is about security. If I purchase a non-Apple router, how do I set up WAP security?
    Thank you!
    Rick...

Setting up WPA security (or WEP for that matter) on a non-AirPort device, is pretty much the same. Most non-AirPort routers, like Belkin, D-Link, or Linksys, use a web-based administration format. Most also include a CD with automated setup for Windows-based devices.
I suggest that you download a copy of the user's manual for the particular router you are interested in and take a look at how wireless security is established before you make a purchase.

  • Express won't connect to internet, yet shows full signal

I have just had BT infinity installed last week every thing was working fine but i wanted to replace a very old telephone extension cable from my BT walk socket at the other end of my flat to a really good quality ADSL cable which would plug in to my Draytek Vigor 130 modem which then links into a time capsule, i then have an airport express and an airport extreme (in bridge mode) to extend my Wifi coverage.  Bt infinity worked fine until i replace the ADSL cable but why do the routers now say there is full bars yet cannot connect to the internet? Can anyone help???

Ok, with the Draytek performing basic modem functions, you will want to leave the Time Capsule in router mode.
We can now add the other two base stations, one at a time, to extend the Time Capsule's Wi-Fi network. Again, I would recommend that you perform a "factory default" reset on both of these base stations. For each base station, you will want to determine the ideal location for extending the TC's signal. Please refer to the following AirPort User tip for details on station placement. This tip is best performed using a Mac laptop. Note: Be sure that only the Time Capsule is operating while taking the SNR measurements as you only want to know its signal quality at the location you plan on placing the extending base station. You may find their current location is not ideal using this tip.
Once you determined the best location for each extending base station bring both to the same room that you have the Time Capsule. I would then recommend that you use the "automated" setup within the AirPort Utility to configure each for an extended network one at a time. Verify that network is extended before going on to configure the second base station. Finally, after each base station has been verified, move them to the locations that you determined using the tip.

  • The mother of all iChat AV problems

All the computers listed below can text chat among themselves but almost all of them cannot audio or video iChat AV with each other.
I hope you can follow along, as this will get very complicated. It is a hard story to tell.
I have been working on this for about 3 weeks now. I have read just about every post in the past 3 weeks. A 2nd Level Apple Tech Support person said I should post this for all to read because it encompasses so many problems all at once without any results and I have some interesting situations. I have tried every single suggestion in the forum without any results. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple iChat support, 2nd level Apple support and Linksys support. I’m an experienced iChat AV person and have been video conferencing for 10 years, starting back with CU-SeeMe. Actually did Beta testing for that CODEC. At the end of this, I will tell you what I haven’t tried yet, and it’s only one thing. And Ralph Jones of the UK, I have read every page of your website about ichat AV and tried everything on it. Thanks for the good work along with everyone else.
I’m the tech administrator for a Day Care Center. At the Day Care Center there are 15 Macs; 12 new 14 inch iBooks - 1.3 GHz with 756 MB RAM, one -15inch PowerBook 1 GHZ with 1 Gig RAM., an iMac 1 GHz with 1 Gig RAM, and one – 17inch 1.67 GHz PowerBook with 1 Gig of RAM.
    My office has 2 Macs using iChat AV, a PowerBook 400 Titanium – 500 MB RAM and a G5 – Dual 2GHz – 3500 MB RAM.
All ADSL connections, all Verizon DSL. There are 8 different locations involved in this. 7 locations are using Linksys WRT54G routers, version 2 and 5’s, all updated to the latest firmware. My office is using a Linksys WRT54GS version 1 also updated to the latest firmware. 7 locations are using Westell 2200 DSL modems, and the one residential location that is DHCP is using a Westell 6100 Modem, the 6100 is set to default settings.
7 locations have static IP’s from the ISP and the 8th location is DHCP direct from Verizon (a typical residential set-up). Each location has 2 computers associated with it, all with iSight cameras. All 17 computers are using iChat AV through an AIM account.
All the computers are running OS 10.4.3 and are up to date as of this posting, including the J2SE 5.0 ver. 3 update and the Security Update 2005-009.
At my office and the office of the Day Care Center, all the computers are designated with a static IP. At the other locations the computers are DHCP, set to automatically get an IP from the router.
In all attempts to video iChat with all the computers, whenever an attempt is made, the 2 computers always get a video preview window and they say, “Starting video chat with …”, but then the dreaded responses always follow after trying to accept; “Did not respond”, “Fail to start video chat”, or “Cancelled the connection.”
So first, my office and the Day Care Office (DCO) have been video conferencing for over 1 year with iChat AV, but now we can no longer video chat. The only thing that changed was at both locations the routers went form an older Linksys WAP54G (A, B, & G) router to the WRT54GS ver. 1 at my office and a WRT54G ver.2 at the DCO a while ago. I can no longer video conference to the DCO nor can they video conference to me between any combination of the 4 computers at the 2 locations (a G5, PB 400, PB 1 GHz, iMac 1 GHz.). Not to long ago they all could video iChat with each other.
My office (with both computers) can iChat with the one location that is DHCP (the Verizon residential setup – both routers set to their defaults, no special stuff). But I can only video conference with the iBook not the PowerBook. In reverse, the iBook can call me but the PB can not. I have brought the PowerBook back to my office and it can video iChat back to the iBook at it’s location from the PowerBook that came from that location. The PB can even connect to my 2 computers on my router at my office. We did a 3 way to the iBook with my G5 hosting, the PowerBook at my office and the iBook at it’s location. When I take the PoweBook back to it’s original location (where the iBook is – the residential location) it can’t video conference with my office, no matter who calls whom.
In the remaining 6 locations, none of the computers can iChat with any of the other locations at all. I have only been able to iChat with the one location that is the Verizon DHCP location (residential setup) and only to the iBook not the PowerBook.
Now to get even weirder, as I said each location has at least 2 computers. At each of the 7 locations (but not my office), the 2 computers at that location, on the same router, can iChat between themselves over AIM (not BonJour) but they can not video chat with any of the other 7 locations.
All 17 computers connect correctly to the Apple iChat test sites: appleU3test01 and appleU3test03 at very good speeds. Oh speaking of speeds, when I first thought maybe it was a connection speed problem, I checked each location by downloading a file off the ISP’s server to check actual speeds, no connection is slower than 75 KB/s, most are plus 150 KB/s downloading the file. I tried 5 different DSL speed websites such as DSLReports.com and they are so inaccurate for testing speeds, they’re not worth using. I would get variations of speeds sometimes 400 to 500 Kbps difference between web services from the same computer at basically the same time.
To recap, my office G5 can only chat with one computer of the 17, the iBook at the Verizon residential setup. The PowerBook from the residential setup can chat back to its home connection to the iBook from my office only. None of the other computers can chat with each other from one location to the other. All the computers (except my G5 and the one iBook) can only chat with the other computer that is located on the same router.
I have concentrated on trying to get my office and the DCO connected. I have tried everything. That’s why after talking with Apple about this, the tech said to post this. Not many people will have so many computers simultaneously to work with. He even said I tried everything.
The one thing I haven’t tried is removing the Linksys router from both ends of a connection and just go through the Westell Modem. There is too much involved changing over the 2 offices or the other locations with all the computers at each location. I can’t afford to experiment that way with working business situations. These are not home environments.
I’m still not sure if the problem is an Apple thing with the latest updates or a router problem because the firmware updates have installed a lot of security stuff. I never had to even consider Port Forwarding or anything. iChat AV with the Linksys routers in their default settings just worked.
One odd thing I noticed while I did all this testing, if you have 2 computers at the same location that both have the same apple test site in the buddy list (example: appleU3test01) when one connects to the test site, the other computer lists the buddy as in use, and the second computer can not connect to it. As soon as the first computer disconnects, it becomes available to the second computer. You would think the test site can handle multiple people at the same time. In addition, each computer can connect to a different test site at the same time over the same router. I don’t know what it means, I just found it interesting.
    Thanks for listening,
    Jim

EZ Jim & Ralph, I appreciate your suggestions.
EZ - I have not had time to view entirely your website on ichat. It looks pretty complete. Too busy. Equipment conflicts I don't believe I have any. There is nothing on any of the computers except the iSight camera. No other external or internal equipment added. Very little software other than Microsoft Office 2004 and a cople of other things. They are not loaded with stuff, pretty basic.
Also each little network location works fine, the only thing I'm having trouble with is Video Chat. They all text chat to each other just fine, including the Windows machines (some locations have windows xp machines only).
Ralph - first - each Day Care location is in a different building around our community and each has a DSL line with it's own static IP from the internet service provider. Each location has one Westell Modem/Router 2200 that has been made into a modem, setting it up as a bridge as my service provider requested. And each location has a Linsys Router with the Static IP to the ISP. Each computer has it's own AIM address.
On the Modem I changed the IP address so it wasn't the same as the Linksys Router.
I want to say, I think like you that it's the modem. I got that feeling from your last post.
I have checked out my G5 and I can Video Chat to a lot of people (settings below). I restored it back to the way it was originally set up when I could video chat with the Day Care Center Office (DCCO). I can chat with my son (he has similar Linksys WRT54G Router, the version I still don't have, and an iSight camera), my parents (they have a cable modem, and an old Linksys A&G Router, iSight), my neighbor (I lent him one of my iSights, he has Verizon Fiber Optic and a Apple Extreme Base Station). All video chatted fine.
My Linksys is now set to defaults. I restored everything back. This is how it was prior to all the testing (port forwarding, etc.)
Security: Firewall protection is enabled. Block Anonymous Internet Requests, Filter Multicast, Filter IDENT (Port 113) are all checked and on. Filter Internet NAT redirection is not checked.
    Administration: UPnP is Enabled.
Applications & Gaming: No Port Forwarding, No Port Triggering, No DMZ, No QoS.
The one thing different in all this is the Modem. I am using a discontinued Westel Wirespeed model; A90-210015-04.
My son is using the same type Router (different version) but a different Westell modem (I don't know which yet) He has Version DSL. The Router is set to defaults like mine is now and we conference fine.
The DCCO who I use to video chat with but can not now, has had the Modem and the Router changed. They had an old Linksys A&G router and an old discontinued Westel Wirespeed model similar to mine (the model I don't know yet). Now they have a Linksys WRT54G ver. 2 and a Westell 2200 Modem/Router (set up as a modem only).
So I'm going to work on the Modem theory first at the DCCO. I'm going to try to put the old modem back and see if it works. I can only do this on Fridays when only one person is in the office. I can't shut them down to test this. So I'll get back to you after Friday.
Thanks again for your good and helpful suggestions.
    Jim
Gee, I wish they would have left the spell checker in this forum.

  • ICal doesn't let you make events repeat _on all but the_ nth weekday of a m

I am managing a radio station automation setup using iCal, iTunes, GarageBand, and Automator/AppleScript (the station is WRFR-LP FM in Rockland, ME). The workflow is going well with one exception: we have a show that plays on the last friday of every month, and the other fridays a different show plays. The problem here is we can't set up show #2 (which plays every other friday) as a recurring event in iCal. I can't set it up as separate monthly recurring events on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd fridays either because some months have 4 fridays and some have 5.
What would be useful is the option to "Repeat monthly (every n months), on every friday EXCEPT the [first, second, third, fourth, last]". The "Except" could be added as a radio button next to "On the" (the two would naturally be exclusive of each other). Perhaps "On all but the" is better wording than "Except".
If this were included in iCal, my situation above could be remedied by adding two events: one for the first show, repeating "monthly every 1 month, on the last friday"; and another for show #2, repeating "monthly every 1 month, ON ALL BUT THE last friday".
    what i have: http://www.csh.rit.edu/~riffraff/icalrepeat.png
a photoshopped mockup of what i would love: http://www.csh.rit.edu/~riffraff/icalrepeatfix.png
is this a logical annoyance to anyone but me?

I did update from an older Mac. All of my calendars are showing up just fine, I'm just having trouble editing events. I can add events just fine from my iPhone or Mac, just can't edit/delete from either. When I edit/delete the event directly from Google Calendar the changes are reflected on the Calendar app just fine.
Additionally, I frequently have to force quit the Calendar app on my Mac due to either not opening at all, or freezing up once it is open.
