Automation with logic and kontakt3

what is the secret to having individaul track automation using kontakt3

No secret - either automate the Aux tracks assigned to multiple outs of Kontakt
or
use the assignable automation parameters in Kontakt (in the Auto menue at the upper left) by dragging e.g. #001 to any knob of the instrument you want to control-in the track header select #001 and write your nodes with a controller or with your mouse. I´ll post a picture if you need more help.

  • Noob needs help with Logic and Motu live setup.

    Hello everyone,
I'm a noob / semi noob who could use some help with a live setup using 2 MOTU 896HD's and Logic on a Mac.
    Here's the scenario:
I teach an outdoor marching percussion section (a drumline and a front ensemble of marimbas and vibes). We have an amazing setup of live sound to amplify and enhance the mallet percussion. There is a yamaha PA system with 2 subs and 2 mains which are routed through a rack unit that processes the overall PA balance. I'm pretty sure that the unit is supposed to avoid feedback and do an overall cross-over EQ of the sound. Other then that unit, we have 2 motu896hd units which are routed via fire-wire. I also have a coax cable routing the output of the secondary box to the input of the primary box (digital i/o which converts to ADAT in (i think?)..?
    Here's the confusion:
There are more then 8 inputs being used from the ensemble itself, so I need the 16 available inputs to be available in Logic. I was lead to believe that the 2nd motu unit would have to be sent digitally to the 1st motu unit via coax digital i/o. Once in Logic, however, I cannot find the signal or any input at all past the 8th input (of the 1st unit).
    Here's the goal:
All of my performers and inputs routed via firewire into a Mac Mini running OSX and Logic pro.
I want to be able to use MainStage and run different patches of effects / virt. instruments for a midi controller keyboard / etc.
I want to be able to EQ and balance the ensemble via Logic.
    Here's another question:
How much latency will I be dealing with? Would a mac mini with 4gb of ram be able to handle this load? With percussion, I obviously want the sound as latency free as possible. I also, however, want the flexibility of sound enhancement / modification that comes with Logic and the motu896hd units.
Any help would be REALLY appreciated. I need the routing assistance along with some direction as to whether or not this will work for this type of application. I'm pretty certain it does, as I have spoken with some other teachers in similar venues and they have been doing similar things using mac mini's / logic / mainstage / etc.
    Thanks in advance,
    Chris

You'll definitely want to read the manual to make sure the 896HDs are connected together properly. ADAT is a little tricky, it's not just a matter of cabling them together. Go to motunation.com if you need more guidance on connecting multiple devices. Beyond that initial hookup, here are a couple of quick suggestions:
    1. Open CueMix and see if both devices are reported there. If not, your connections aren't correct. Be sure to select 44.1kHz as your sample rate, otherwise you are reducing the number of additional channels. For instance at 88.2kHz you would get half the additional channels via ADAT.
    2. You may need to create an aggregate device for the MacBook to recognize more than the first 896HD. Lots of help on this forum for how to do that. Again, first make sure you have the 896HDs connected together properly.
    3. As for latency with Mainstage on the Mini, no way to know until you try it. Generally MOTU is fantastic for low latency work but Mainstage is a question mark for a lot of users right now. If the Mini can't cut the mustard, you have a great excuse to upgrade to a MacBook Pro.

  • Recording with Logic and Mackie Onyx?

Has anyone an opinion about how well these
    new
Mackie Onyx mixers w/ the Firewire Card
perform working with Logic Pro 7?
    Specifically in terms of tracking
16 live channels simultaneously and getting
low latency as well as tracking out thru Logic
and the Mackie Onyx to a standalone CD-R for
    mixdown/mastering?

It was my understanding that the audio which passes through the firwire pipe (in or out) does not carry the channel strip information with it.
this means that for tracking, your EQ settings will be for reference only. and you will have to use logic to EQ your work, and be careful on the way back in for CD burning not to double EQ your work.
Seems like a great idea, but has a number of drawbacks.
why not get a presonus or similar interface with many inputs, and then distribute the control room signal with something like a big knob?
seems like a simpler, more direct and ultimately "higher fidelity" solution.
    imbmo anyhow...

  • What's wrong with Logic and Soundtrack Pro

Just spent a frustrating day trying to record with Soundtrack Pro and Logic
Soundtrack is working on and off
    Problems:
    1. Even if sounds are loaded in the multitrack editor, no sound when playing. Only the Solo (S) button make a track sound. No idea what's wrong?
    2. Trying to record directly into a multitrack sometimes works, and sometimes not.
    3. When making another attempt to record, the noise of death appeared (same as the long thread on Logic.
Finally I just recorded in Amadeus Pro. At least that software works. It just crazy. Look I accept there is a learning curve but this s just crazy

That said, Logic is the most used software in project studios. Mixing engineers like ProTools better. But the two have way more market share than anything else.
    Hey Ben,
Sorry to bump your fanboy applecart... (don't mean that as derogatory as it may sound, I liked the play on words)
From everything that's happening here and the west coast (USA) many of the Logic users I know have switched to other software, the two Logic studios here have gone to ProTools mainly because Logic version 8 was so unstable, there are no more Logic studios here. The studio with the most business uses a Radar system, the second busiest studio is running Sonar. There is a fellow with a mobile system using a MBP and Logic but he uses version 7.
The University here took bids 3 years ago and opted for PC/Nuendo/RME setups.
So yes, Logic may indeed have the most project studio percentage but since every jerk can download it for free what is the quality coming out of these project studios? My point is, for professionals, Logic is becoming less and less of an option, most everyone that used it professionally has been disappointed in Apples support of the product, a long time between upgrades and except for user boards like this... literally zero professional support. You know there's problems when you call up Apple and know far more about Logic than the support staff. It seems like both of those are starting to improve but I think it's a little too late. Also... there's still the "blast of white noise" problem that hasn't been addressed, no professional studio can take that kind of chance.
Apple is using Logic to sell hardware, smart business, absolutely. However, cutting the price in half, removing the copy protection and throwing in the kitchen sink plus seemingly not giving a d@mn that the program is pirated leaves a very bad taste in my mouth.

  • Syncing issues with Logic and Akai MPC 1000

I followed the directions in the manual and even some advice on another forum related to MPC's, but I still keep having problems whether I sync as Logic being Master or Slave.
When I sync Logic as Master the Tracks are kept in time with each other but they are not syncing to the grid in Logic right. It's a little off even though I set a few blank bars at the beginning of the sequence I wanted to record, and set the the tempo in Logic to the exact same tempo on the MPC. When I go to copy and paste certain bars while arranging it's always off cause the tracks are not in time with the bars in the arrange window. I want the tracks to be in time with the grid so it is much easier to copy, paste and arrange.
When I try to sync Logic as Slave...I can't even get it to work at all. The transport location just seems to jog in place. The last digits in the transport just keeps repeating themselves but no others, and there is no movement of the play head. It's just stuck. I don't know why it's doing that. When I try to sync Logic as slave I make sure the MPC is NOT in slave mode whatsoever, and that Logic isn't sending (as far as I know) any Master info to the MPC, so I really don't understand why it locks up.
I'd really appreciate help in getting this sorted out as soon as possible.

Ok, so I checked the SMPTE offset. I switched it so it will start at 00:00:00:00 or what have you. Good news is that the play head is no longer stuck. The first time I tried this I got an error message saying "System Overload. The Audio Engine was not able to process all required data in time. (-10011)" after about 8-10 bars of recording.
Next time I tried this I did I stereo pass of one track and it worked perfect. It recorded the whole sequence and the sync was perfect. It was only that one time. Now I can't even get the empty initial bars to go through without getting that error.
What is happening with this? I should have a powerful enough computer. I have a 2.2 ghz Intel core 2 duo Macbook pro, 2 gigs of ram, os 10.4.11

  • Whats the best Audio Interface to use with Logic and MacBook Pro?

I currently own a Line 6 Pod X3 Pro and although its much better than the Eleven Rack (what an overrated piece of junk in a pretty candy coating, more fizz than club soda and still no balls. Some say it just needs a cheap overdrive box to do the trick. I say how can it possibly be worth a Grand if a cheap added piece of equiptment is needed to improve the sound?) It's still not exactly top notch, to say the least.
I was really considering the SSL (Solid State Logic) XLogic Alpha-Link MADI, a 24 channel high-end AD/DA Converter. It's somewhat pricy, but you can't possibly find a bigger bang for your buck, however I don't really need that many channels. I'm really going for quality over quantity, but I'll pay for the extra inputs if there's no way around getting top of the line otherwise.

Thanks but I already figured it out, or rather B&H did for me. Firstly, to use the SSL with a DAW you'll need to use the Extreme "PCIe card" which neither notebooks or iMacs accomodate. So unless I want to dish out an additional $1,500 for an RME laptop interface (with built in PCIe card) for this interface i'm shoot out of luck, boo! I was really looking foreward to that set up.
However, to answer my own question (and save a couple hundred bucks) you simply can't beat Apogee's Ensemble, which is built specifically for Mac. Much simpler - no drivers needed, and I actually understand the specs, 16 channels, and 4 of which even have transparent mic preamps. And its only $200 more than the Rosetta (only 2 channels, and nothing but converters - no preamps).
The main thing I also wanted was to have as least components as possible going into Logic. I already passed my "gear collecting phase," and the more I added the worst it sounded. I was already forewarned of such results, but when your a newbe like I was I guess you have to find out for yourself. So I'll be getting rid of my Line 6 POD X3 Pro; dbx 1066; Presonus Eureka; Aphex 204; and 8821 Sonic Maximizer ( I already got rid of the 11-Rack, good riddence!
And replacing them all with an Avalon 737 - anything that sounds that good over YouTube has gotta kill - and the guy from B&H said "thats one SWEET set up!" Of course every body knows Apogee and Avalon are no brainers (if you've got the patience to save up for the good stuff) but I'm more of a best kept secret type of guy (or try to be) however this time I don't mind conforming. Taylored quality and simplicity...Perfect...what more can a guy (or girl) ask for (now if I can only get my hands on some Vienna Symphonic Orchestra Software to pick up the slack where Logic is lacking.)
I just want to stop with the learning every new gadget nonesense already and get back to being a musician again.
PS How do I switch this topic to the Logic forum? I'm sure it will be more helpful to others there.

  • Oracle Backup End to End Automation with BRBACKUP and RMAN

    Hi,
We are about to implement a Oracle on mySAP 2004 or 2004 i.e. either NW2004 or NW2004s. Currently we are on DB2 UDB.
We are going to use legato for backup.
legato networker module (I guess this is module built for BACKINT)  for SAP is too costly, so we are looking at alternatives for backup using legato without using networker module.
We have virtual tape library (disk that emulates as tape library). we plan to keep 30 days/versions of backup there.
Can we use BRBACKUP and RMAN to achieve end to end backup automation without using networker module by using the BRBACKUP delivered options and integrating to RMAN.
I do see BRBACKUP options like tape_box and pipe_box. Are these will be useful to achieve this.
Other question is do we really need to integrate with RMAN. What are the advantages.
So far I see the advantages with RMAN are 1. incremental backups. 2. Online backups are handled more consistently than normal.
    Appreciate your information.
    Thank you,
    Ravi Gandavarapu.

    Hi Jason,
Yes, we have SAN storage. Also thinking to use split-mirror for production.
Do this need legato networker module. Or we can put a script without out the module also?
    >>There is one little complexity to this but if you're interested I'll explain it. <<
Would you please explain what it is ?
Again for my dev and qa systems we are not planning split-mirror.
My plan is to back them up straight to VTL (disk based). Do you think using RMAN here helps (because of incremental) ?
I was recently going through 10g features. Looks like 10g has a feature that you can merge incremental with level0. Does brbackup supports this?
    Appreciate your info.
    Ravi Gandavarapu.

  • First time recording live with logic and makie onyx

this week i am due to record my band live for the first time. i am running logic on a power book with external lacie 250gig. and will require 16 channels.
here is the problem, after channel 12 the input selector goes back to one even though i have 16 audio channels, and i can clearly see 13-24 but they are dull so i cannot select them?
how do i increase the amount of input options?

    Hi Justin,
Unfortunately, LE7 is limited to 12 simultaneous inputs. Logic Pro is unlimited.

  • "Multiple Tempo Events Detected" -- Propblem with Logic and Reason

I have just migrated from a MacBookProp to a MacPro. All seems well except for the rewiring of Reason. When I rewire, I get the error message in Logic "Multiple Tempo Events Selected" asking if I want to review the list. Since no song is open in Reason, this would appear to be some kind of glitch. Also, there is a huige amount of latency between Reason and Logic. When I have just Reason open, there is no latency at all when I play. the same in Logic when I create a software instrument. But in rewire mode, it is about half a second! Any advice and help would be appreciated.

Update on this: the tempo issue was relegated to one project where there was a tempo change within Logic, so I apologize. But I still have a tremendous amount of latency between the two programs.

  • Q ? How do I import my work that I with logic and FCP with 5.1 audio to ATV

I work as a professional musician and work on soundtracks and when I finish & bounce my mix I want to take the .mov file home and watch it on my ATV . Actually thats why I brought the ATV so I could watch and listen to what I have done in the studio at home ...
Please is there a way to do this ? Or is this great little box doomed to buying or renting films from the itunes site ?

I think I just found the answer to my question..
Quicktime has a itunes export feature so therefor I can directly send the .mov file into ATV automatically great I didn't know it was so easy ..
I wasn't sure whether that preset worked with 5.1. and had assumed you had tried it.
If your content is HD, the tv preset will export at a resolution of 540p, being in Europe your source material is probably 25 fps which would allow you to manually use compressor to create a 720p export which will play on the tv. Although a little more work than a preset once you have found an optimal export setting you can create your own preset if your manual export proves to be of better quality.
Buy the way can ATV read directly from a usb hard disk connected to the ATV ?
    No.

  • Does Antares autotune and otherplug ins work with logic and garageband?

i'm thinking it does, but not sure

I think it just has to be an 'Audio Units' or AU type plugin. There is a pretty basic pitch correction plugin built into Logic Express. I was pretty impressed with it.

  • Help with Logic Pro 7 and Yamaha 01X please!

My friend has purchased an 01X, a 20" G5 iMac with 1.5GB RAM and Logic Pro 7. He is not the 'techiest' of people so was rather hesitant about going this route for his recording purposes. Having used a Yamaha AW4416 to successfully record an album, he figured that the 01X with Logic would be the next step up the ladder of useability & functionality.
Unfortunately, he is having a great deal of difficulty in getting the 01X to talk to Logic. He purchased and installed the Logic 7.1 update in the hope that things would start to work. Unfortunately, that hasn't helped either. All the 01X is able to do is start and stop the 'play head' in Logic. None of its other functions are having any effect. He is also having problems with mLan.
So, before he throws the whole lot out as a bad idea can anybody provide any success stories with Logic and the 01X. I am hoping to visit him this weekend to see if I can help. However, whilst I know a whole lot about Macs, I have no experience with the 01X or Logic (I used Cubase VST in the past on a few projects). Any help or pointers in troubleshooting this would be very gratefully received.
    Lol

i've been looking into getting the 01X and been doing some reading. i have no experience with it but i'm interested in hearing more about how you get on. i did find that www.o1xray.com has a forum full of information about setting up logic and the 01X. ElmerJFud seems to be the main dude, his post has a lot of setup information: http://www.01xray.com/forums/showflat.php?Cat=7&Board=01X_Macintosh&Number=19978 0&page=0&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=&fpart=1

  • Audio hardware interface to use with Logic Studio 8 and Pro Tools M-Powered

I want to get Logic Studio and Pro Tools M-Powered. I do film sound design and music as a hobby. I plan to compose music with Logic and edit film audio with Pro Tools.
    Here is my main concern:
I want to get ONE firewire audio interface that will work with both programs (Logic Studio and Pro Tools). I need one that has multiple outputs because I will be mixing in surround sound (mostly the film audio). Are there any suggestions? Inputs on what people like, don't like, work well with both? What I should completely avoid? I figured Pro Tools M-Powered (as opposed to LE, HD) would be better for me simply because of price and possibly using the m-audio interface with Logic too.
Let the advice begin please. I will be happy to answer any questions you have for me that would help you provide better advice for me.
    Thank you in advance
    TTW13

Yes, Logic Studio is surround sound capable, but unfortunately a lot of places that I would potentially like to be working at, that do audio post, that I've seen, require a knowledge of Pro Tools. I know it's not the best but it's the industry standard and it's what many companies use so I need to learn it (basically). I don't want to limit myself to stereo outs on the audio interface on PT. Maybe I should to keep my budget down though??? I guess now I'm looking at PT LE and the 003 family, this one in particular

Anyone currently using Pro Tools LE with Leopard right now? For some people it apparently works???

  • Using iControl with Logic Pro 8 - can you assign "undo" and "click on/off"?

    Hi Guys
I know the M-Audio iControl works fine with Logic Pro 8 - the Logic 8 control surfaces manual has heaps of info on page 107 onwards about how to use the iControl.
Which is cool, because for simple remote tasks the iControl is brilliant. BUT I notice there are no "undo" or "click on/off" buttons on the iControl. Apparently (according to the control surfaces guide) you can assign different functions yourself.
Does anyone know if it's possible to assign these two features to say the "Option+Record" button and "Option+Cycle" buttons?
If anyone has any experience using the iControl with Logic, and personalising the controls, please let me know!
I have seen a cheap iControl and it might be a great solution rather than forking out for a Presonus Faderport or something more expensive...
    Thanks heaps!
    Mike

I've tried this (Mainstage) on both my home and mobile setups and there is one anomaly....
If I try to open a saved concert from the 'open recent concerts' menu item, nothing happens - However if I open a saved concert from the normal 'open' menu item, it all works as it should. Apart from that everything else 'just works'.
Obviously there is a variance between my findings and worshipvertical's, which is why I urge everyone to test for themselves to see what works and what does not.
If it works, great! You've saved a pot of money - If it does not work, I'm not sure I'd retain that much in the way of loyalty to the Logic platform, especially in view of the shorter and shorter enforced obsolescence periods that are now being forced upon us. Who knows where Apple is going next?
My opinions and findings, nothing more - or less
