Automator bugs: freezing after Take Video Snapshot action

Hi there-
Just testing out some of my automator workflows, and it seems that some basic (built-in) automator actions no longer function under Mountain Lion.
Running the action "Take Video Snapshot" pops up a mini window that can take a user's photo. Running the action causes Automator to hang immediately after the action attempts to save the image.
Modifying the action's settings has no effect- take photo automatically drives automator right into freezing once the photo is snapped. Manually taking the photo causes the freeze to happen right when the user clicks 'Done'
Could someone please re-create and verify that this isn't isolated to my machine? I'd super appreciate it.
Getting frustrated with Automator since Lion- they keep breaking more and more Automator actions with each OS update, it seems.

Having the same issue. I tried to get around it by tethering a camera in automator and using the 'Take Picture' action. But then you get a different error if you try to use the action more than once:
Cannot update for observer <AMWorkflow 0x4001d9c20> for the key path "parameters.name" from <TakePicture 0x401042700>, most likely because the value for the key "parameters" has changed without an appropriate KVO notification being sent. Check the KVO-compliance of the TakePicture class.
Called apple because these support threads seem to take forever, they directed me to https://developer.apple.com (after asking what manufacturer I got the program from...uh, you?). I have seen a lot of posts with the tethering error, not so many with our 'Take Video Snapshot' error, but I assure you that it is not unique to your computer!
Hope they catch autmator up with the new OS, not everyone uses it but those who do REALLY use it.

Automator Freezes/Crashes on take video snapshot

I've been working on automatically importing a picture from the built in camera from my mackbook pro into file maker pro. I have writen the script in file maker and am doing this using automator. This works great for about 5 pictures, then automator spins and spins. I have to restart my computer to make this go away. From that point on, it will no longer work. I have traced this back to automator.
I have made an application, used "take video snapshopt" place on the desktop, then "change the type of image" to a jpeg. Then if I run this application, it will work 5-7 times, (place my picture on the desktop in .jpeg) then when I try it again it will freeze/spin on "take video snapshot" and I have to re-boot.
Things I have tried.
Added pauses
Fixed prefferences
Made new user. Works great! for another 5-7 times, then the spin.
Tried on another computer-same result
I'm embarrassed at how much time I have spent on this filemaker project. I'm too stuborn to give up and just drag the picture over from photo booth. I want it to be automated.
Any help would be apprecitated.

Freezes after playing video playlist

My 60G freezes after playing my video playlist. I have to wait until the battery runs down then plug it in to reboot it for it to work again. I took it back to Best Buy where I purchased it, and they installed the latest update. They claimed this would fix the problem. Wrong! Any suggestions?

There is no screen event triggered when the video finishes playing that you can use to jump to the next slide or unhide a button to enable the user to navigate forward at a time of their own choosing.
If you know the duration of the video, you can place a navigation button on the timeline at that point so that it appears just after the video finishes playing. However, you may find that on different PCs with different system specs the video may take slightly more or less time to play.

ITunes freezes after watching video

Hi,
Fairly frequently iTunes will lock up once I finish watching a video, either when it has reached the end or I manually close the wondow.
I have to then end the process to restart iTunes.
An additional sympton that might be related, every now and again when I open iTunes it opens as a blank library, I then have to repoint to the correct library and reset a few options.
Anyone else have these symptons and found a soluton?

Codec packs are notorious for causing iTunes problems.
Try searching c:\windows\SysWOW64 for files with Quicktime in the name.
There should be just two:
Quicktime.qts
QuicktimeVR.qtx
If there are any other files or folders, try dragging them to the desktop ot any temporary folder.
Does that make any difference.
After doing that, do you have the latest Quicktime installed, if not update it.

Earlier versions of Quicktime can upset iTunes.

Flash 11.5.1 freezes after typing F9 for actions-window

Hello together,
we've installed Creative Suite 5.5 Production Premium on a Samsung P560 Notebook under Windows Vista Business 32Bit. The installation routine finished succesfully and we were able to start flash. There we can use nearly everything but the action-window. As soon as we type F9 or choose Window -> Actions F9 the program starts to work until it gives no feedback. We've already updated CS5.5 with all available patches. The Nvidia-Driver for the GeForce9600M GS graphics card was also updated. Has anyone an idee what could provoke this behaviour? Further more it would be interesting if there are logs in which the application could write occuring failurs?

When using rogers.yahoo mail, I need to refresh my screen after every 2-3 actions.

While using Rogers.yahoo mail in FireFox, the screen freezes after every 2-3 actions (read email, delete email, respond to email, move email to folder etc.). I have to refresh the screen and then it goes along for another 2-3 actions and I have to refresh again. Very frustrating. I opened the same email account in Google Chrome and IE and it works fine there. This started happening yesterday.
In perhaps an unrelated thing, I get this error message every day, once, when I start up my PC for the past 2 months:

Photo booth freezing after taking photos or videos...

so almost every time i use my iSight and photobooth to take a photo or record a video my mac freezes and i cant force quit or even click on anything. i end up having to manually shut down my mac and then reboot it. it still saves the photos/videos most of the time but its very obnoxious that it freezes after each time i try to take a photo, especially since i just got this MacBookPro a week ago.
has anyone experienced similar problems and know any solutions?

so such problems can be caused by software issues you can fix.
Mac OS X is a robust operating system, but it does require some simple occasional maintenance for best performance. It sounds to me like your Mac may need some maintenance now.
First, you should Safe Boot your Mac. Safe Boot forces an automated OS X disk check and repair routine. If your disk needs significant work, Safe Boot may take several minutes to finish. Do NOT try to use your Mac while in Safe Mode. When your desktop appears in Safe Mode, immediately restart your Mac normally. Use the Safe Boot procedure the first time you start your OS X Mac after any hard shutdown (whenever you "manually shut down my mac".)
When your Mac restarts normally after a Safe Boot, you should repair your startup disk's permissions. Depending upon how much repair is needed, permissions repair may take many minutes or even a few hours the first time you do it. Subsequent runs should take only a few minutes.
For normal maintenance (other than after a hard shutdown,) you can also use Disk Utility rather than a Safe Boot to verify your startup disk.
As soon you have performed your OS X maintenance, try the suggestions in Apple's How to Troubleshoot iSight to test your iSight's function. If you encounter problems after having performed OS X maintenance, try the reset process suggested in the Troubleshooting suggestions. The reset usually restores proper function of the built-in iSight.

H.264 multi-pass re-encoded video freezes after 10 sec (consistently)

When I take an already encoded H.264/AAC movie and re-encode (to enable the fast-internet streaming option) with the same settings with the "Best Quality (multi-pass)" option enabled, the resulting video freezes after 10 seconds, though the sound continues through the rest of the movie. I have tried this on 3 different movies with the same results. When I change the encoding to "Faster encode (single-pass)", the resulting movie's video frame does NOT freeze at 10 seconds and plays normally. I can reproduce this on any already encoded H.264 movie I wish with the same results.
I have Mac OS X 10.4.8 (PowerPC), 1GB RAM, QT 7.1.3 PRO. I also happen to have DivX 6.2.5 Pro and Flip4Mac 2.1.0.33 Player Pro (though I was not converting anything using those codecs).
Any suggestions? SEEMS to be a QT bug to me... Any one else experiencing this

No need to jump through all of the re-encoding hoops to enable "fast start".
Open the file (whatever format) and use "Save As".
This will place your file into a .mov "container" but the fast start properties will be restored.

Can you take a snapshot of a video clip in FC X

Seems like should be an east process, simply want to take a snapshot of a frame of video.

What Tom told you, use Share>Current Frame. That will make a still of that frame.
If you don't want to that you could try this, after you stop the video, you can use command+shift+4, then
drag your mouse over that part of the frame you want to capture, you will see the cross-hairs, for your still.
Tom's method works great. FYI: FCPX makes a better still images then then older versions.
I don't have to Photoshop them. that much, like I did the older version's.

Video Playback Freezes After 25-30 minutes

Hey everyone, I've recently run into a problem with my iphone. Any videos I watch freeze after about 25-30 minutes of viewing.
Basically, it'll pause without my doing anything, then I'll be able to hit play again, at which point it'll play for another 30 seconds or so before freezing again.
When I back out to the homescreen and replay, I get the same thing.
After I quit the ipod app in frustration, little snippets of sound will play randomly from different videos. It's really odd.
This is happening consistently with both video podcasts, rips from DVDs, etc. Any video after 25-30 minutes.
I've attempted to quit the ipod app, run the "free memory" app, all to no avail.
Any ideas?

I'm running 3.1
I have about 775MBs of free space on the iphone.
Problems are occurring with both .mov and .m4v...

Well, well, well, iphone 3.1.2 just released and what do we see in the release notes?
- Fixes bug that could cause occasional crash during video streaming.
Here's hoping. I'm going to test it and see if this fixes my problem. I'll report back in an hour or so...

Freezing after 2-3 actions

Hi everyone! I have a problem that only popped up only yesterday and is now crippling my entire Premiere program. I had edited a multi camera sequence using files off of an external SSD and also included some art cards and videos off of my own internal hard drive. Everything was going smoothly until I had to delete a video clip at the end of the sequence and use a different one instead. When I tried to export this version of my sequence, Premiere froze my whole computer at 64%. I forced shut down and then booted back up and now every time I start Premiere it will freeze after 2-3 actions. I tried uninstalling both Premiere and Premiere CC 2014 and using Premiere CC 2014 is giving me the same issues. I'm not sure if this is an issue caused by low memory? Also, when I force quit Premiere, the process still seems to continue going on even though the actual application has stopped on the Task Manager.
My computer is using an AMD A8-3820 2.5ghz quad core with 16gb of ram.
Not sure which details were relevant so I tried to included everything that happened. Would appreciate any tips or possible solutions, thanks!

Try the following, if you have not already:
Quit Premiere Pro, then reboot the computer. Launch Premiere Pro once more
Sign out from Creative Cloud, restart Premiere Pro, then sign in
Update any GPU drivers
Trash preferences
Ensure Adobe folder preferences are set to read/write in all 3 locations.
Delete media cache
Delete preview files: usually located here: Documents > Adobe > Premiere Pro > 8.0 > Adobe Premiere Pro Preview Files > [Your Project]Delete the preview files in this folder by dragging them to the Trash.
Remove plug-ins
If you have AMD GPUs, make sure CUDA is not installed
Repair permissions
In Sequence Settings > Video Previews, change the codec to one that matches your footage
Disconnect any third party hardware
If you have a CUDA GPU, ensure that the Mercury Playback Engine is set to CUDA, not OpenCL
Disable App Nap
Reboot once more
Let us know if any of those things help.

Strange iPhone 4S camera bug after long video recording

I've encountered today a strange camera bug on my iPhone 4S 32GB (5.0.1) after recording video in my car for rather long time (more than 20 minutes). I've noticed that image on screen is swaying and waving. Later I've founded that saved video also has this bug. After stopping camera app manually and restarting it image becomes normal but for short period (3-4 minutes of recording). If i tried to press home button and just reentering app, camera didn't started at all (showed me closed shutter).

So i had this problem also but my camera worked fine for 2 years. I took it to a store to get a new battery put in and the front camera stopped working.
The repair guy said its a software issue since the camera isnt linked or close to the batter.
I tried EVERYTHING. Reset my phone several times. Delete everything. Tried different apps. Just everything.
Ended up taking it back and asking the guy to change the camera and see if it works.
What he did do was take my camera out and put it back in.
Didnt even need to pay for a new one
This worked for me. And trust me i tried EVERY suggestion on this thread and several others.

Flash video in Acrobat X makes scrolling document slow or freeze after playing

I am running an HP Intel Core i7 CPU @2.8 GHz, with 8 GB memory and the 64 bit Windows 7 operating system and using Google Chrome and a Nvidia GeForce GT 220 graphics card that shows:
Total available graphics memory 4095 MB
Dedicated Video Memory: 1024MB
System Video Memory: 0MB
Shared System memory: 3071MB
I made a PDF and inserted a 1 minute flash video into the PDF which has about 3 pages of text.
1. I scroll down to the flash video with no problem...
2. I click on the flash vid and it starts to play, no problem.
3. After it is playing I start to scroll up and down to the other pages and it is fine for a while, but then sometimes the scolling freezes and cannot scroll any more. Also right after the video stops and I try to scroll the scrolling gets stuck. So it hangs for a few seconds but then once the video is stopped I can scroll up and down fine again.
The scrolling limitation appears to be related to the fact the video is playing. But My PC and graphics card are not what I woudl consider 'slow' or out dated.
It seems like quite a bad thing to happen for anyone who reads such a document and plays the video and then decides to start scrolling again to read the text below it.
Leads to a bad user experience...
Does this happen to everyone else out there?
Is there a fix for this?

Rich media (Flash, video, 3D, etc.) is stored in the PDF file in compressed form, and is uncompressed at the point of playback (i.e. when the video activates). This introduces a small delay if you're scrolling past a video, and there's not a lot you can do about it.

Most likely you have Office 2004 which are PPC-only applications and will not work in Lion. Upgrade to Office 2011. Other alternatives are:
Apple's iWork suite (Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.)
Open Office (Office 2007-like suite compatible with OS X.)
NeoOffice (similar to Open Office.)
LibreOffice (a new direction for the Open Office suite.)
