Automator DNG convertor action- how-to

I was trying to figure out how to do this... I wanted a hot-folder setup that I could just drop files into, and have DNG Converter chunk away in the background. Ben Long has an Automator Action set up, but it took a while for me (not too familiar with Automator) to figure our how to make it work. Using that, and making an Automator "application", you can just drop stuff on the application icon and it runs the process.

Automator is more of a batch processing kind of thing, but you can use the *Get Folder Contents* action to include the contents of sub folders. Note that this will also go into packages and bundles, and the original folder isn't included in the results.

Please check the list yourself and co,mare the necessary CR version with the one your version of Photoshop utilizes.

Pse5 how do i get the dng convertor onto the desktop?

i copied the Camera Raw.8bi file to the right place - there was one there already.
i use version 4.6 for my camera
this is on a win7/64 just like the old computer where it has worked for years

After downloading updates in C5 camera raw stopped working. I am trying to download DNG CONVERTOR but when I press 'download' it just times out.

Automating using Photoshop Actions & Excel document??

Hi - I'm new to automator and I wanted to know if it was possible to have automator run photoshop actions and also pull info from an excel document. Here is ideally what I’d like to do:
I receive hundreds of images (book covers & interiors) that I’d like to resize and rename automatically when they are Dropped into a folder.
There are 3 different resizes that I’d like to be done. I have the resizing actions in photoshop already. I run the automate>batch command in photoshop, but I’d still like to make it simpler.
Original files – These are how I receive the files and I clean them up to look like this.
- COVERS – i.e. 140394877213_ccvr.tif
- SPREADS – i.e. 140394877213_csp1.tif, 140394877213_csp2.tif, etc.
Here are the different folders
Folder 1(sized for catalog use) – action set up in photoshop cs2 that will size covers, another action to size spreads at a different size.
- covers – bookname.tif
- spreads – 140394877213_csp1.tif
Folder 2 (smallest sized cover) – action in photoshop to resize cover
- covers – 140394877213.tif
Folder 3(sized for powerpoint presentation) – action in photoshop that will resize covers to a certain size, and a separate action that will size spreads to another size.
- covers – bookname.tif
- spreads – bookname_csp1.tif, etc.
5 photoshop actions in total
When the original files are dropped into the specified folders (folder 1, folder 2, folder 3), a photoshop action is run that resizes all the files in the folder and also renames the files.
Can I do this? I have all the books and isbns in an excel document that I’d like automator or applescript to pull the information from the excel doc to rename the files accordingly.
Also, is there a way to record the names of the files I receive in an excel document?
Or even better, after the images are placed in the folder, can a script check the excel document (that has the listing of the booknames and isbns) and mark off which files where received and placed in the folder. I hope that was clear.
Any help or advice would be much appreciated!

I cannot open images from my new NikonD3300 in Elements 11 , I have downloaded and installed CameraRaw 8.4 and DNG convertor but still won't open!

I wonder if anyone can help with the above question about Elements 11 and my not being able to open Raw images, I have tried downloading and installing Cmaera raw 8.4 and DNG convertor but still not opening have not had truoble with D200 or lumix G5. thanks Yvonne

The D3300 requires Camera Raw 8.4 but Camera Raw 8.4 is only compatible with Elements 12 and later.

Camera Raw 8.4 is not compatible with Elements 11 and never will be.
You'll have to either a) upgrade to Elements 12, or b) use the DNG converter to convert all D3300 Raw files to DNGs then edit the DNGs in Elements 11.

The D200 requires Camera Raw 3.3 (or later) and the Lumix G5 requires Camera Raw 7.2 (or later) both of which are compatible with Elements 11.

I have developed a form with fields hidden by default, that become visible based on box ticked or radio button selections.
My problem is that, when I close the form and re-open it, it comes back to it's default presentation, regardless of the information already recorded in the form (including in the now hidden fields.
How to correct that

I've had the same problem. This solved it...
Go to the "Form properties..." in the File-menu. Select "Run-time" to the left and in the box "Scripting" Preserve scripting changes to form when saved: choose Automatically (Script-based state changes are saved locally in an insecure fashion. This option cannot be used for certified forms).

The poster already posted at the Acrobat Users Community, Interactive Forms that sums up a client order from catalog. The sample form posted to Acrobat.com was a revision of the sample form that came with Acrobat 4.0. There are some fairly advance scripts, templates, and document level functions involved with this form.

You would need to update to PSE 12, or just keep using the DNG converter. Your camera requires ACR 8.4, which isn't compatible with PSE 11. It's also not compatible with PSE 12 if you are running Vista or XP.

DNG Convertor for FujiFilm X100S

I want to use the X-rite Color Colour Passport Checker, which uses a DNG, to create camera profiles an also Adobe Camera Raw to read FujiFilm raw (RAF) files.
I am used to that workflow to adjust a raw image and use an X-Rite generated camera profile.
I use Photoshop CS 5.5 Extended where the Camera Raw does not appear to support FujiFilm X100S raw (RAF) files; hence I turned to the DNG converter.
When I use the DNG convertor (8.1.0.43) to convert a FujiFilm X100s raw file (RAF) it does indeed generate a DNG.
However, when I read a converted DNG into photoshop and view at 100% and more (say 200%) there is a matrix grid in the image which I presume
corresponds to the Fuji sensor. If I now apply say an exposure adjustment layer the grid pattern (an array of small dots) becomes even more evident in the displayed image.
So I think the raw DNG conversion has a problem/bug with RAF's from the X100S.
I want to use Adobe Camera Raw to apply a 'camera profile' and modify a FujiFilm X-100S DNG image with CS 5.5.
The FujiFilm supplied Raw converter does not have this problem when converting to jpg/tiff.

I have same problem. Use DNG 8.1 to convert a RAF (raw file ) from Fuji x100s to dng format then open dng file in photoshop and I get this DOTTY image. This is a crop from the image when viewed at 200% so that you can clearly see the problem.
The image below is a crop at 200% also but this is from the jpeg captured at the same time as the RAF file.

Did you buy PSE in the mac app store? If not, just go to Help>Updates in the editor and update camera raw and you should be able to open the raw files in PSE 12 directly without the DNG converter.

Making automator repeat an action every 30 minutes

Hi is there any way you can make automator repeat an action e.g. click a web page button, every 30 minutes. I can make it push the button but can't do the timing part

LMS 3.1 Syslog Automated Action - How to pass variables to script?

I would like to pass variables to a windows bat file for processing. The help seems to suggest that there are 2 available, device and message. I would like to know how to reference them and what syntax to use to pass them to the batch file. Are Facility, Sub-facility, Severity, Mnemonic and Description also availble? If so, how would they be referenced? Thanks in advance.

The syntax for referencing these variables is discussed in the online help. Essentially, you'll want to use %~1 and %~2 in your batch script to get the device and message respectively. The message will be the full message, so you will need to do additional processing on that to extract the facility, severity, and mnemonic.

You're right, your version of Photoshop will not open SX1 images directly. Support wasn't added until Camera Raw 5.4, and Photoshop Elements 5 can only use up to Camera Raw 4.6, as you already know.

AppleScript version of Automator's Safari Actions

I am building an AppleScript studio app and really need some help on how to do applescript versions of Automator's "Get Link URLs from Webpages" and "Get Image URLs from Webpage" actions. I would love to use curl or some other way to prevent the user from actually seeing the webpage.

There is a perl script buries inside this AM action:
'/System/Library/Automator/Get Image URLs from Webpage.action/Contents/Resources/images'
You can run that from AS, it gives you links to the images. Then, you step thru the list and curl the images. Here is one to get link to images at Apple site:
set _URL to "apple.com" -- change this to your site
set images_pl to "/System/Library/Automator/Get Image URLs from Webpage.action/Contents/Resources/images"
set site_images to do shell script (quoted form of images_pl & space & quoted form of _URL)
