Automator guaranteed to freeze

This is a nightmare for me since I like to run Automator while watching a DVD or streaming videos from the web. Basically, if I'm watching any kind video while automator is running, the frame rate gets cut in half. It is at this point you want to try and close the player, Automator, anything, but while the video continues playing at half the frame rate, you can't click anything. Nothing will force quit even; I have to hold the power button and start over. And that's the worst part. There is no "send error" message since the entire system is stuck. Automator even occasionally freezes before it can input a task, even without a video playing.
Automator ran like clockwork in Leopard. I upgraded, won over some much needed disk space, but not being able to multitask is killing me.

Freeze Column Headers in Reports Delivered (Archive)
Issue: When viewing and scrolling down in a report with multiple rows, the data column header disappears.
Solution: It would be nice to allow some type of functionality that freezes the data column header so when a user scrolls down to the bottom of the report, the column header stays in place and only the data rows move.
In Excel, this is overcome by freezing the columns under Windows>Freeze Panes

  • Registering iTunes Automation Server installation freeze

Hi all. Long and detailed question, but I've been searching everywhere and am at my breaking point.
I searched for others with this issue and found a few people who complained about it, but the only responses suggested using the SpyCatcher deactivation when installation freezes at registering modules. That's not the issue here.
I upgraded to the latetst version and lost my abilitiy to open iTunes. It would launch (tracked in Task Manager) but wouldn't opne. Following advice I found on here (apple support docs and forum advice), I completely uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime.
Now, though, when I try to install, I get a clean install of Quicktime, but when installing iTunes, it gets all the way to "Registering iTunes Automation Server" and then freezes. The first time I left it for hours and no progress, and subsequent attempts to uninstall and reinstall hit the same point.
I'm running a Dell x64 pentium with WinXP sp2. I have ZA internet security suite which I disable for the install (though it never posed problems before and the ZA forums don't show people having install issues). Likewise, run multiple AV and malware scans, patches are updated and current.
The only thing I can even think of is that iTunes was initially installed under a different user account than the one with admin privileges, but since I've wiped all the accounts of any traces of iTunes and QT using CCleaner and Registry Mechanic after unintalls using the Windows Installer Clean-up utility, I can't see why that would be the issue.
I know this is a tough one, but it's so frustrating for me and my wife not to be able to update our iPods or manage our music.
    Thanks.

I have the same exact problem, I got an iPhone 4 and when i connected to the iTunes i had earlier for my iPhone 3g, it told me to download a compatible version for the iPhone 4. So i went ahead and did that, and since then the iTunes install freezes on "Registering iTunes automation server" I have tried everything possible out there but no luck so far..
    I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit
Any help will be much appreciated.
    Thank you Kindly

  • Automator bugs: freezing after Take Video Snapshot action

    Hi there-
Just testing out some of my automator workflows, and it seems that some basic (built-in) automator actions no longer function under Mountain Lion.
Running the action "Take Video Snapshot" pops up a mini window that can take a user's photo. Running the action causes Automator to hang immediately after the action attempts to save the image.
Modifying the action's settings has no effect- take photo automatically drives automator right into freezing once the photo is snapped. Manually taking the photo causes the freeze to happen right when the user clicks 'Done'
Could someone please re-create and verify that this isn't isolated to my machine? I'd super appreciate it.
Getting frustrated with Automator since Lion- they keep breaking more and more Automator actions with each OS update, it seems.

Having the same issue. I tried to get around it by tethering a camera in automator and using the 'Take Picture' action. But then you get a different error if you try to use the action more than once:
Cannot update for observer <AMWorkflow 0x4001d9c20> for the key path "parameters.name" from <TakePicture 0x401042700>, most likely because the value for the key "parameters" has changed without an appropriate KVO notification being sent. Check the KVO-compliance of the TakePicture class.
Called apple because these support threads seem to take forever, they directed me to https://developer.apple.com (after asking what manufacturer I got the program from...uh, you?). I have seen a lot of posts with the tethering error, not so many with our 'Take Video Snapshot' error, but I assure you that it is not unique to your computer!
Hope they catch autmator up with the new OS, not everyone uses it but those who do REALLY use it.

  • Seriously tried everything and my macbook keeps freezing...HELP

I have a white macbook 2,1.  Running 10.7.5 with two gigs of crucial memory, installed 3 years ago (passed Rember test yesterday), installed new HD, I only have the OS loaded and Rember.  No other programs.  Everything works fine, but after anywhere between 1 minute and 15 minutes after start up, it will freeze.  The freeze is more like being super slow.  Super slow as in it will take the 3 minutes for the pointer to get caught up to where it was moving.  I ran hardware test holding down "d" while starting up.  All passed.  My screen is fine, no flickering.  I am at a total loss.  After reseting the PRAM it seems to last a bit longer before freezing, but it still ends up freezing.  If I close the cover and open it back up it is guaranteed to freeze immediately. I am open to any suggestions.  I even clean the logic board, fan, heat sink, new thermal paste and nothing has helped.  Please HELLLLLLP!

If you don't have the Applecare extended warranty then you will need to pay for the fix. The fix is a New Logic Board. It seems as your Graphics card is failing in some way. No there is no software fix for this.
The Graphic chip is soldered to the logic board and the only way to change/fix it is to replace the complete logic board.
    Good Luck and Best Wishes

  • Randomly Freezing and Running Hot

    Hi all,
So my MBP mid-2009 seems to randomly freeze without warning and after no particular operation or amount of time.  It could be idling with no programs open or be under heavy use and can take anywhere from 15 minutes to over an hour, but it is guaranteed to freeze up and require a hard shutdown.  I've been running Mavericks since late 2013 and have only had this problem recently (about the past 3 weeks).  I've tried many little things but nothing too drastic (like disabling the hard disk sleep option and the Google Drive "show file sync status" option).  I have an SSD and a 500GB HDD installed and am running rEFIt because I have 3 bootable partitions (2 were originally clones of OS X and the other is Windows 8 BOOTCAMP).  I have noticed that the CPU is running much hotter than it should ( >80C with no load and the fan doesn't seem to spin up until it hits about 87C unless I use SMCFanControl).
Anyway I downloaded and ran EtreCheck and have pasted the output below.  I know I'm a little heavy on the RAM usage, but that shouldn't cause this kind of instability.  Also I'm not 100% sure (because activity moniter freezes up when I get the beachball), but it seems like Finder and Safari are the culprits of the crash.
Let me know if you need anymore info and thanks for your time!

Thanks, I'm notorious for not updating things.
I think I may have found the solution, my Crucial M4 was on firmware 0009, the latest is 070H.  Apparently the 0309 update fixed a freezing issue:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/news/Crucial-m4-Firmware-BSOD,14544.html
Did the update to the latest, seems quicker already.  Will know within a couple of hours if it worked or not.
    Cheers!

  • Lenovo Twist Lag Spike / Freeze

I recently got a lenovo twist and have noticed that as I use it on a day-to-day basis, the machine is guaranteed to freeze for at least 20 seconds during a use "session."
This can happen during any situation of computer use (gaming, word processing, browsing, watching movies, etc...). Has anyone else encountered this issue and is there an active fix?

I have looked at the error logs and I get these types of errors. This was after a freeze that lasted 3-5 minutes. Seems like some problems with the disk or something. The list of errors are actually a lot longer but the forums wont let me post them

  • Please Help...Itunes Automation Server problem

It installs up to the point where it says "Registering Itunes automation server", it freezes on the last bar and then says "cannot run cuz some of itunes required files are missing...reinstall"...but it won't. Can anyone help?
    Thanks

You will need to import all your songs to the laptop first. Then, connect your
iPod. Select Erase and Sync. This will remove all the files from you iPod (SO
BE CAREFUL YOU HAVE YOUR SONGS ON THE LAPTOP). Then start over, like you did
when you first got the iPod. Sync it with the laptop.
What I would do, is go to your first computer and burn a DVD of all your songs.
Then on the laptop, do an "Add Folder to Library" in iTunes. Make sure your
iTunes is configured to "copy files when importing". After that, your laptop
should have all the files that you had on your old computer, on it. Generally,
you can't copy from the iPod to the computer. There may be 3rd party apps that
allow this, but not built in to iTunes.
Leave the songs on the old computer, incase things go bad. You can always
re-init the iPod and go back to the original computer and re-sync.
    Good luck. Hope this helps.

  • Mac Pro freezes while asleep and fans go to high

I'm not sure if this is a problem specific to my Mac Pro Dual Quad Core MacPro3,1, but it has carried across an update to 10.6.5 and through a reinstall of Snow Leopard. Also, I don't have it on my MacBook Pro. So, I'm posting it in the Mac Pro forum.
Periodically (but now more frequently), when I go to my Mac Pro in the morning, after it has let itself go to sleep, the fans are on high and the machine won't wake up. I can't mount the machine's hard disk remotely from my MacBook Pro on the home network (which I usually can) and I have to hold the power switch down to force a restart. I've checked the Console logs (all messages) and the last message is usually sometime in the morning, sometimes as late as 5 or 6 am. But, there is no common thread to the last messages before the machine freezes, so I can't use that to identify what process was running when the machine froze.
This past weekend, I got up at 5:45 am and heard the fans running high and then went to watch the Formula 1 race on TV. The machine was frozen again when I got back to it at 8 am. So, the problem will happen whenever it wants, but only in the night (before 8 am and after midnight).
I've tried the following, with no success:
    • Reinstalled OS X 10.6 and followed the update path
    • Reset the SMC and PRAM
    • Rebooted the machine before going to bed, so that no user login process or software was running at the time of the freeze.
What is a good process to use for debugging this problem, from this point, since the Console Logs don't give me any consistent information? Is there a way to make the Console logs more verbose?
How can I get a list of all the maintenance processes that autostart on my machine at night? I'm assuming the problem is with a process installed by third party software, since I didn't clear the problem when I reinstalled a fresh copy of OS X.
Thanks, in advance, for your help.

I can't believe I missed this thread. I was sure I was the only one. This has been happening to me for months now, and of course out of warranty. I've tried so many things. Mac Pro Dual Core Intel. Fans go bananas for no discernible reason (according to Activity Monitor). I often return to an un-wakeable display despite the fans going full blast. Sometimes while I'm working, the thing just puts itself to sleep and doesn't want to wake up. Several times a week, the system hangs. (There's usually nothing complicated being done, although using iPhoto is pretty much guaranteed to freeze everything.) Almost always takes more than one hard restart in a row to get it back up, sometimes a DOZEN or more. Have no idea whether attempting a safe boot helps reduce the number of tries but it seems to. It's set never to sleep; I've reset the SMC and PRAM and deleted video preferences (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1573). The issue pre-dated installing Snow Leopard and was unchanged by it.
By the way, the computer is at its most silent now - 600rpm each on power supply and exhaust fans, and 500 each on CPU and expansion according to iStat - and it's still pretty loud. Anyone else have that issue?

  • Can captivate work with windows application automate tools

    Hi,
I am assigned a task to create demos of some web
applications, I do not want to run the application then click and
input manually and am willing to use some windows automate tools to
record my action first, then capture the screen while doing
    automation playback.
I've recorded some actions with rational robot, but the
playback is freezed while Captivate is recording. If I stop
Captivate recording, the automation continues flawlessly.
So my question is whether captivate can work with windows
automation tools, if rational robot is not the choice, can anyone
    give me some suggestions?
    Thanks very much!

    Hi, Larry,
Rational robot is a general-purpose test automation tool (
    http://www.ibm.com/software/awdtools/tester/robot/index.html).
It can be used to record user input (mouse clicks, keystrokes,
etc.) and automatically plays back scripts that emulate user
actions interacting with the GUI of applications under test.
There are many other applications doing the same work,
including this one which is written by myself :-) (
    http://swat.sourceforge.net).
Using Captivate with automation tools is an ideal way to
create application demos because the automation scripts can be
easily created. stored and edited. Once I created an automation
script, It can be played as many times as I want.
My purpose is to create demos in the following steps:
    1) record user actions interacting with the GUI by an
    automation tool;
    2) edit automation scripts manually to modify something (ie.
    time interval between some actions)
    3) start captivate recording;
    4) use the automation tool to play back automation scripts
and record the screen by Captivate
    5) edit the demo with Captivate
    6) finish
But it seems that Captivate is incompatible with all of the
automation tools I've tested (not only Captivate, Turbodemo,
TechSmith Camtasia Studio are also incompatible). The automation
playback is freezed while Captivate is recording. If I stop
Captivate recording, the playback continues flawlessly.
I guess it's something related to windows events processing.
As you can figure out, the automation tools need to capture all the
windows events generated by target applications, it looks like
Captivate also captures some windows events of the target
application and it prevents automation tools from receiving those
events, so the automation playback is freezed.
Thanks for you reply and I am looking forward for soon
    hearing from you.

  • Recent Reinstall causing interesting Issue. Can anyone give me and answer??

Firstly here's my basic machine profile:
    iBook G4
    1.33Ghz Processor
512MB RAM (256 Wired, 256 In spare DIMM slot)
    60GB HD (7200Rpm)
    Mac OS X Tiger
    External Display
I've recently had to reinstall my system due to a system wide error created by the classic desktop.
This error was causing my Automator actions to freeze my computer, the machine was also freezing randomly during different parts of the user login process (this happened on all accounts.
Initially I did an Archive and Install, I wanted to keep my user setting and files. This would work for about an hour and then certain things would hang the system, specifically:
(from what I tried) Opening windows too quickly (as the desktop was logging in). I was trying to get to Disk Utility.
Using Menus (trying to get to System Preferences).
I had been using the machine quite merrily for over a year, then one night I was running old software in Classic, this froze the machine.
I restarted the machine, Logged in (the machine still worked); I opened Classic preferences and clicked rebuild desktop (it says that this may fix software that's not running well in clasic.), this froze thye machine.
I restarted and this is when everthing went HAYWIRE!!!
That is how the machine came to be as it was.
After following the assistance from Apple's phone support I rebooted the machine holding shift, this gave me "Safe Boot" and I was able to save my work. The tech support also told me that my problem sounded like a system wide issue and that I should back up my data and zero-out the disk. This worked.
I reinstalled Tiger and got the most recent updates from Apple. The Machine is running beautifully now.
    now.
The issue I bring forth is that I was using a system hack called "Screen Spanning Doctor", a hack that give iBook and iMac users the ability to turn off screen mirroring, It helped me greatly.
Now this should have been a software hack should it not? Because after reinstalling the system (from a Tiger DVD), the feature to span screens has remained... I don't understand how this is possible though
All comments are welcome, I hope someone can answer this strange issue for me.
    regards,
    Pete.
iBook G4; 60GB Hard Drive, 512MB RAM, Airport Extreme + iPod Nano (1GB Black) Mac OS X (10.4.6) iWork & iLife '06, Adobe CS2, Final Cut Pro. Anything and Everything!!!

    Hi Peter...
Try reading MacFixIt about tips of reinstalling OS after a system-wide failure:
    http://www.macfixit.com/
One tip about Archive & Install is to uncheck "preserving (old) users internet settings" etc, that may bring any corrupted or unstable system files over, the key here is to start from a fresh new stable OS.
Did you also inadvertently migrate over the hack that you have mentioned? If it is software based, it should not be functioning when you perform the A&I method.
Since you have back up all your important data, your "last resort", and probably the "best garanteed way" of ensuring a new stable fresh OS, is to erase, reformat the drive and install from scratch.
    Cheers

  • Captivate Work

I am looking for some help developing quizzes with Adobe Captivate. I am a long time user of Flash (sans programming) and want to develop quizzes with Captivate but don't have time to climb the learning curve. I have Captivate 4 and have built a quiz but need help with developing it to look professional and work with a LMS.
The job entails minor hours at this point but may work up to more hours if my quizzes are accepted by educational institutions.
We can discuss compensation and payment methods.
    Job requirements:

  • EXS24 is underdeveloped and badly thought out

    Hi,
More a rant than anything, though if anyone has solutions... that'd be great...
The EXS24 doesn't seem to have been developed properly - that is, samples held in the EXS cannot be manipulated enough individually - I can't believe that they all have to share the same ADSR, filter cutoff and other settings. It's even more annoying if you're trying to automate more than one sample.
Don't get me wrong - if you have just one sample, that's great; it's perfect (well, actually it's pretty fiddly, but hey...). But for those of us who might want to use more than one, it's a huge task and CPU intensive. It doesn't seem to have been designed for sample heavy productions.
This should go in the feedback really, but I'm kind of hoping I've missed something (puh-lease!)... without loading up too many copies of the same sampler.
    Best,
    Michael.

    Hey hey...
Beatz: I quite like working with the EXS too, it's just so constrained and has so much potential... especially as I love the EXS filters...
Rohan: The offsets are useless, it's no surprise you/I haven't used them - they're far too restrictive
Frank: Nice idea, but I tend to get carried away with plug ins, I find even if I re-sample I still feel compelled to add more! : 0 § I think this really is the only solution though...
Phlange: Thanks, to be honest the "messy and busy" workround (and my only real suggestion for Apple - have to fill in a feedback form) would be if you could create a new "fronts" for every sample - ie. a new GUI for each sample, using the same background "editor"... complicated to manage but would solve the problem. These can either be multi-ed or routed through the same output...
Justin: Yes, I am tempted by Kontact, especially as it comes highly recommended by just about everyone that uses it... however, it's expensive and uses more CPU than the EXS. Thanks for the tips...
I suppose the only other thing to do would be to export tracks with automation, or maybe freeze them to save CPU (but I hate freezing tracks!).
So, I guess this means a feedback form...
Thanks for your comments, at least I know I'm not on my own on this one...
    Best,
    Mickey.

  • Need advise on choosing a PT/Logic Solution.

    Hi again
A few years back i asked at forums about using a M-audio Ozone as a Logic/Pro Tools solution (M-Powered PT That is) and allot of people warned not to get it, there reasons where hear say, however, it worked fine for my friend who was turning it on once in a while to practice while i also used it to record vocals at other locations., short take stuff.
Problem now is she started to use the M-Audio Ozone allot, like as her computer's main interface, and she noticed that the sound randomly gargles up like mouthwash and simply dies/fades out until you hear nothing., And to add fire to fire you need to reboot the M-Audio Ozone and risk freezing up the computer too while ending up loosing all open unsaved docs.
So i came up with this knuckle head solution, yesterday i talked her into getting a M-Audio Powermix i/o, after asking around everyone claimed the Ozone was crap and the M-Audio Powermix i/o is one of the best pieces of gear out there.
Guess what, during the first hour alone with setting up the M-Audio Powermix i/o, the software crashed 4 times during a firmware update, froze the CPU 6 times while rebooting it into other modes or for whatever reason, audio worked once in Final Cut via HUI mode, but since then only the automation works, no audio, and in Pro Tools it seems to work fine but the faders are not mapped right even though it was also rebooted in Pro Tools mode, remind you guys rebooting a M-Audio device causes freezing but i am not sure if this is due to using the products to direct the built in audio or simply the crappy drivers as Dave once mentioned in many other posts here.
Anyone have a better Pro Tools/Logic solution?
    Her Reasons for Pro Tools;
    Software:
-The ability to open and work with Pro Tools Sessions, (mine reasons as well)
    Hardware:
-The ability to record at-least 2 stereo tracks and also hear 2 separate stereo mixes (for recording)
    -S-PDIF transfers i/o,
-Access to Final Cut via HUI mode,
-Up to 4 tracks in, several stereo out for headphone mixing,
    I was thinking of:
    -Tascam 1884 or 1808 with i/o),
-Mackie (MUC) with a firebox for (i/o) and using the Ozone when needed for audio, or even Saphire, Konnekt8 or add a liquid mix for external Processing.

There should not be problems combining audio
interfaces really., HD systems and Logic allows it.
Proprietary is the issue with all multimedia
    applications these days.
"Shoulda, coulda, woulda"... I don't use those words anymore. Fact is, the stuff "should" work, but it is not reliable. Fact. In the future, anything is possible... but we all live in "today-land". And today, aggregate devices are not 100% foolproof.
But talk about taking advantage of there own low end
Pro Tools users who Digi left with no choices but to
use there Le and M-audio drivers as well interfaces
which are crappy compared to the Firebox for example,
which has ClassA Mic Pres and sells for more less the
same as there USB M-Box mini (USB).
You are comparing Apples to Oranges (no pun intended). As in Bad drivers VS good mic pres.
I just need 4 ins, 8 outs if at all, S-PDIF to
connect my Tascam DAT, but i refuse to buy another
M-Audio Product again (there audio products anyway)
maybe MIDI like there "Axiom"., but never again, i
was just trying to replace a M-Audio Ozone which
froze the computer whenever the sound died and it had
to reboot, and now the Powermix i/o is even worse, it
has to reboot between sequencers for automation modes
and freezes from time to time.
Ouch. As I was told by Digidesign = "Stay away from M-Audio". I obey. I am Happy.
I am sure Digi made there higharchy of limitations to
M-Audio to also make there M-Box and 00 family work
better (look good)., and i hear they also have issues
with other 3rd party competitors, unless ofcourse you
buy something ovr 2000€ like the 003.
Now that is a very cool Speculation. From the Latin "Speculum"... Fact is, M-Audio firewire drivers are dodgy. And, if I had paid 20,000 USD for a TDM HD system, it had BETTER work flawlessly right out of the box, which they do, 99% of the time.
    Cheers

  • What memory settings for Kingmax 3200 MPXC22D-38 512 Mb on a K8T Neo-FSR board?

    Hello,
Like many people here, I have been having some major stability problems with this board.  I am looking to upgrade my old DDR266 memory to a 512 Mb stick on the MSI approved list and decided to go with the Kingmax MPXC22D-38 DDR400 512 Mb stick.  I know that is usually necessary to change the memory settings to achieve stability (which is my main goal) and am looking for recommendations for settings.  Any help with what each number means (or which setting it applies to) would also be very helpful.
Also, what would be some good settings for my old DDR266 512Mb memory until the new stuff comes?  Memtest86+ reports it at CAS of 2.5-3-3-6, and I am looking mainly for stability.
Thanks for any help in advance.
    Cheers,
    Tom

    Hello,
My stability problems seem to mirror most of the posts here, random freezes that are not reproducible and seem to happen un-related times.  It is a complete freeze with no sound, only option is to press reset.  I can almost guarantee a freeze when playing a 3d game after about 10-20 minutes.
Would the "Fail safe" settings be the most stable?  I saw your post said "for maximum troubles" but thought you meant this would reduce them.
    Cheers,
    Tom

  • Automation lane freezing

On the song I have been working on lately, it freezing often whenever I click on an automation lane. Sometimes the track itself, sometimes when I click on a node, and sometimes when I click the automation button. I tried all of the usual steps, clearing cache, preferences, etc, but I have never seen this before, so it may be specific to this song (possible song file corruption?).
Has anyone had this problem before, or know how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

Is this an L7 song that you opened in L8?
One thing you could try in the meantime to try and clear out the (what seems like) corruption is to create a blank region that runs the length of your song for each audio track, audio instrument, and MIDI instrument in your arrangement. You don't need to create more than one region per instance. Then, use the "move all track automation to region" command for each track (you might be able to do this in one shot by selecting all of those regions and then invoking the command). At that point you will have essentially erased your automation tracks but retained of the data in MIDI form in those (formerly) blank regions.
But to be sure those automation tracks are cleaned out for sure, invoke the "delete all automation from all tracks" as well.
Save this song under a new name. Once saved, do the reverse --- select all of those "automation regions" and invoke the opposite procedure, "move region automation to track automation".
From there, try to do your automation editing. If your track still freezes up upon doing so, at least you'll have a version of the song where you have your automation in MIDI form, where it can still be edited.
(BTW, I'm doing this from memory, so the names of the automation/region moving procedures might not be exactly named as I described them).
I'll be curious to know how you make out with this.
    Cheers!
