Automator iCal backup workflow no longer works

Hi all,
I am new to automator workflows, but I recently created one to back up all of my documents to an SD Flash card in my Macbook Pro.  The workflow was working good for about a week, and now it It keeps saying that the workflow does not have permission to save the file to the folder.  Any Ideas on how to fix this
Thanks!

Hi Frank.  Thanks for the response.
(Mentioning Windows 8 was a joke, as I'm sure you know! ;-)
Here's what the workflow looks like;  you'll note the "all green" log at the bottom!
By the way, when I run it, iTunes does launch;  but it doesn't play anything.  And there IS a WCPE entry;  it's a radio station that is in the list of radio stations/Classical and that entry has also been copied to one of my playlists.
The workflow was created as an application and it's run when I power up the Mac.
Thanks for your interest and advice!

  • Automator workflow no longer working under Leopard

Here's what I had - I use the Sonos music system which has a limit on total metadata. The longer the file path the more data was used. Therefore the folder system set up by iTunes (which I could not get rid of no matter what I tried) would end up using a lot of the data limit.
I created an Automator task that did the following:
    1. Looked through my iTunes Music folder (on an external hard drive) for any folders.
    2. Took the contents of the folders and moved them to the iTunes Music folder.
    3. Searched through the iTunes Music folder for the now-empty subfolders
    4. Moved these empty subfolders to the trash.
Using Leopard's Automator, I tried running my old workflow and got several error messages. Worse, it appears to have deleted my old workflow (can't find it anywhere) - whether or not Automator deleted it or I did accidentally, I no longer have it.
Trying to replicate the old flow, I simply cannot put together instructions that work. I can't seem to empty the folders out, so that the folders in the trash are filled with the songs. Once I even accidentally moved the whole iTunes folder into the trash. I can't get the last "move to trash" command to work without an error message though it seems to actually work no matter that there's an error message.
This shouldn't be too hard, but maybe I'm forgetting something simple. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Stu

    Adam,
Numbers 3 should be free if you had it on your machine before (you were using Numbers 3 before, right?).  In App Store you might try clicking 'Account' under Quick Links and Reset all warnings for buying and downloading. And, if necessary, also contact Apple to get that charge reversed.
I can't reproduce the script problem here. The fact that the Paste and Match Style is greyed seems to suggest that your copy of Numbers thinks there is nothing in the clipboard... Are you sure you don't have one of the many clipboard enhancement type applications on your machine?
To test that you could try manually copying text into the clipboard (from say, TextEdit) and check to see if Numbers accepts a paste.
Another thing to try: run the script from AppleScript Editor to see if you get the expected results from there.
And also try this:  Open Terminal and at the ~ prompt type this command:
        date +%H:%M
It should respond immediately with the time in 24-hour format.
If you do get the time as expeced and you can't the the original script to work again,  then try the script below, which avoids the clipboard.
    SG
    tell application "Numbers"
set t to front document's active sheet's first table whose selection range's class is range
tell first cell of t's selection range
set value to do shell script "date +%H:%M"
              end tell
    end tell

  • Automator workflow no longer works on 10.7

Hi.  I've been using an Automator workflow for years:  it opens iTunes, looks for a specific radio station, sets iTunes volume, sets Computer volume, starts iTunes playing and runs a small Applescript script to close the folder if it was open.
This has been running for years.  Upgraded to 10.7 and it stopped working.  It seems to launch, but nothing happens.
I recreated the same workflow, and I can run it:  it states that every step is "Completed".  But it really doesn't work!!!
What should I try next?  (Windows 8???)

  • ICal iPhone sync no longer works - applemobilesync quit unexpectedly

I can no longer synch iCal with my iPhone. I get the message: The application AppleMobileSync quit unexpectedly.
I have already reset my iPhone. Addresses have synced as have applications but it crashes on Calendar sync. The machine also slows to a crawl while it is trying to do the calendar sync. When unselecting the "Synch iCal Calendars" box, I can synch everything else, so the problem is linked to calendars only.
Would appreciate it if someone can help me figure out where the problem is. Detail on configuration and report below.
    Thanks,
    Charles

I have checked and added that the problem seems to be limited to synching iCal with my iPhone.
Mac Book Pro Mac OS X (10.5.8)

I guess I have reached the end of the line.
Full reinstall and hard-disk reformat coming up soon for a problem that might be easy to solve????
If it fixes will post that this fixed the problem. A rather radical solution. (I am having e-mail problems, gets solved by reindexing but have had to reindex e-mail files after a few days of the first time - so reinstall linked to more than just this).

  • Workflow no longer working

I had a workflow created by a very kind guy on here, and installed it, and it worked fine for about 5 days, but has now stopped working, and I can't find why.
Normally when you run it, you see the EDIT meny highlight before it enters the data, but this isn't happening now.
The workflow gets the date from the system, copies it to clipboard, and then pastes it into numbers.  Below is the code.
I've still got it installed on my home macbook air, and it is still working there.
It's still installed on the work mac, but it doesn't run or work properly.
    Can anyone help?
set the clipboard to (do shell script "date +%H:%M")
    tell application "Numbers"
              activate
              tell application "System Events"
                        keystroke "v" using {shift down, option down, command down}
              end tell
    end tell
The workflow still exists in the automator, and it still has a shortcut attached as originally set, which is command-alt-'
I've noticed when I've tried to change the shortcut, that it often stops it working, and has to be reinstalled from scratch.
Also, the first time I ran it, it showed up in "numbers" in the automator under "app shortcuts" but it no longer does.

    Adam,
Numbers 3 should be free if you had it on your machine before (you were using Numbers 3 before, right?).
    SG
    tell application "Numbers"
set t to front document's active sheet's first table whose selection range's class is range
tell first cell of t's selection range
set value to do shell script "date +%H:%M"
              end tell
    end tell

  • Backup drive no longer working after Lion upgrade

After upgrading to OS Lion, WD network hard drive is no longer supported by Time Machine.  It was working fine on Snow Leopard. Is there a setting that will allow me to get my data back?

  • Workflow no longer works for one user

I have a state machine workflow that I built and deployed over a year ago. The workflow has run without issue until a few weeks ago, when one user complained that the workflow wasn't processing his approval.
This user has been an approver since the workflow was first deployed. He was able to successfully approve as recently as last month. I have tested frequently with this user, and the issue is consistent. Once he completes the task he is assigned, the workflow
doesn't seem to see that the task has changed. If any other approver completes the task (including myself) the workflow runs without issue. I even had the user login on a different computer, and he still encountered this issue. I also had him test this workflow
on our staging environment, and on that server he doesn't encounter the issue and the workflow runs successfully, so this issue only occurs on our production environment.
I don't feel there is a problem with the workflow due to the length of time it has worked successfully, and due to the fact that all of the other approvers (there are many) cannot reproduce the issue. My gut tells me it is a permission issue, but I have
verified the user still has owner rights to the site, and that he has not had any name changes or other updates to his AD account. However, this issue is only occurring on production, and I am not aware of any changes made to permissions on this site. Has
    anyone else experienced this behavior?

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that the workflow cannot work fine when the user completed the tasks.
I recommend to check if the user has permission on the task list the workflow uses.
Open the workflow in SharePoint Designer and check the task list the workflow used in Workflow settings page of the corresponding workflow, then go to the List Permissions of the task list in the browser and click Check Permissions button in the ribbon to
check if the user has permission on the task list.
    Thanks,
    Victoria

  • Restored Aperture from Time Machine backup.  No longer works :(

I have a late 2007 Aluminum iMac with a 500gb hard drive which decided to go about 2 weeks ago. I had apple care put a new one in. Everything works well except Aperture. If I try to launch the application it immediately comes back with a window saying that, "The application Aperture quit unexpectedly." If I click Relaunch a few times it prompts a Reset and Relaunch which does nothing. I have recently received 4gb of ram from crucial which doesn't work when all 4gb are installed but I am currently running 3gb and it works fine. (I have one gig of apple installed ram and a 2gb stick from crucial) Could the extra gig of ram be the issue? I am tempted to delete the program and reinstall it but I am not sure if that will also delete my 6,000 photos :/
    Any ideas?

I would first try deleting the preference file.
    username/library/preferences/com.apple.Aperture.plist
    If that didn't work I'd try a re-install.
Deleting the app should not affect the library, but is it not backed up in a "vault" anyway.
Don't really know if the ram could be an issue.

  • ICal sync from iPhone 3G no longer works with both MacBooks?

    Hi Group:
I've got an iPhone 3G, a previous gen MBP and a white MB, all running the latest software updates. For the past several months I have been able to enter iCal events on my MBP, sync to the iPhone using iTunes, and then sync the iPhone to the MB. For some reason I can't guess, that no longer works, and iCal events are not being transferred from the iPhone to my MB iCal app. Did this happen with the iPhone 3.0 software update (the timing seems about right)? I called Apple Care last night and they said only a .Me account would return that functionality, but denied this had anything to do with the iPhone 3.0 update. In fact, the rep said it never should have worked in the first place.
FWIW, here's the error messasge iTunes generates:
"iTunes could not sync calendar events to the iPhone because an error occurred while sending data from the iPhone."
That's the exact wording, and it doesn't really make perfect sense, either. So, is there a workaround for this, or a third-party app, perhaps? Did Apple make this change just to sell more .Me accounts? Finally, is there maybe an automated way to sync the iCal events between the MBP and MB across my Time Capsule network? Thanks in advance for any ideas.
    Dean

****, that was a brilliant solution. To be clear, what was happening is that I could no longer sync calendars from the iPhone to the MB, but never lost that ability on the MBP. I would not have guessed your solution, as I've never even opened the iSync app, and had no idea it was in any way involved. Thanks, and I wonder if there's some way Apple could add this solution to their database for the Apple Care reps?

  • Can Automator be used to generate iCal backups?

I would like to use Automator to run iCal's backup utility - namely File > Back up iCal....
Has anyone done this? It seems like this should be fairly straightforward but I'm not seeing how this can be done from within Automator. TIA!

Couldn't figure out how to do in Automator but I took a crack at writing an Applescript that works.
This saves the iCal backup in your home folder and overwrites the previous copy. You'll need to create the first one yourself and then the script will work.
    Here is the script:
    tell application "iCal" to activate
    delay 2
    tell application "System Events"
tell menu item "Back up iCal…" of menu "File" of menu bar 1 of application process "iCal" to click
    delay 3
    keystroke "iCal Backup"
    keystroke "H" using command down
    delay 3
    keystroke return
    delay 2
    keystroke tab
    keystroke space
    end tell

So basically if a iphone has a fault after the 1 year warranty period is over, there is nothing the consumer can do but purchase a new phone??
Pretty much. Except that Apple will replace it for a fixed fee that is far less than the cost of a new phone. In the US the replacement cost for an iPhone 4 is $149. It is comparable in the UK. Unless you can prove that the fault was present at the time of purchase. A switch wearing out would probably be considered normal wear and tear, not a "fault".

    Answer is no.
If you want the iCloud backup you have to have n internet connection, thus WiFi.
The not working WiFi has happened with quite a number of users.
It is not exactly clear what is the cause but there are suggestions to clear it up:
Some people have had success by removing an apostrophe from the iPhone name. If your iPhone is called something like “John’s iPhone” then this might work. Go to Settings > General > About > Name and change it to something with no apostrophe.
Some people have reported success by putting the iPhone into Airplane mode and then going to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings, but the problem may return.
You could also try going to Settings > Control Center and disable Access on Lock Screen then turn your iPhone off and on again.
Make sure that your router firmware is up to date.
Try backing up your iPhone and then restoring it. Check how to factory reset an iPhone for details.
If nothing is working for you, try contacting Apple or take your iPhone into an Apple Store.
    Succes, Lex

  • I just installed Mountain Lion on my iMac that was previously running Snow Leopard. Bugt I found that some key applications no longer work, so I would like to go back to snow Leopard. I can't use time machine backups for this. what can I do?

I just installed Mountain Lion on my iMac. But In was dismayed to find that my Canon scanner software (Canoscan LIDE500F)no longer works. Nor do any of my MS offce applications. I tried to use time machine to reinstall Snow Leopard (my previous operating system), but unfortunately my time machine backups did not include system software. Also, the original system install disk that came with my iMac would not allow me to install Snow Leopard in place of Mountain Lion. I would appreciate it if somebody could tell me how to solve this problem.

The reason your Office doesn't work is because it is PowerPC code. If you will upgrade the 2004 Office to 2011 Office then that will work.
I don't understand how you managed to get your Time Machine backup to not backup the system.
Now if you still what to downgrade you will have to erase the disk and reinstall Snow Leopard. Most likely all of your application and then restore your data from Time Machine.
To me it sounds like it would be easier to upgrade your software and stay with Mountain Lion instead.

  • ICal Find no longer works

Ever since my boot drive filled a few days ago, Find no longer works in iCal.
The Find Details pane opens, but it's always empty.
I suspect some index or DB got corrupted, but have no idea how to reset/refresh/restart it.

Better get it "unfilled", your OS needs that space for Virtual Memory. Rule of thumb at least 15% free space.
Use WhatSize or OmniDisksweeper can help you find what's hogging your disk space.

    1) are you sure a reset holding the reset button will not delete my data?
Absolutely sure.. There is no connection at all.. reset is only the router side of the TC.
For the hard disk to be erased you need to access the airport utility disk page.. request erase and confirm the operation.
    2) I can access to time capsule by ethernet but I am not able to input the corret setting by myself
    Thank you again
I am uncertain why if you have access you cannot change settings.. but that is why you reset things so any of those problems should be fixed.
Here is the Apple info on reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3728
And here is the quote from the horse's mouth so to speak.
Factory default reset: Perform this reset if you wish to repurpose the AirPort Base Station or Time Capsule and want to remove all personal profiles and settings first. This reset resets the device to its state when you first purchased it. Data stored on internal or external hard drives connected to the device will not be erased. If you choose, you may manually erase the hard drive using AirPort Utility.
