Automator image conversion loses camera info
I was using Automator to convert DSLR raw pictures to jpeg. Everything works fine but all information form the camera is missing in the output jpeg files. Anyone has the same problem and any suggestions? Thanks.

How to control canvas color with preview/automator image conversion
I am using an automator workflow (image attached showing workflow) to scale and pad (change canvas size of) images that I am uploading to a website. However, some images will end up having a black canvas while others will have a white canvas post-conversation. I would like all converted images to have a white canvas. Is there a way to ensure this?
Here's a solution that works:

Automated image capture and processing
I want to create an automated image processing. I have LR4.1 and CS6 installed. I also subscribe to the Creative Cloud.
1. Capture an NEF.
2. Apply an X-Rite color profile.
3. Save as a JPG to a specified folder.
4. Save the NEF to another specified folder.
How can I do this?
Thanks,
Ed BeckThanks, let me know if there are more questions.
>1. Capture an NEF.
>Is this a theaderd NiKon camera or a wireless transfer how is the capture beinng done?
D800 tethered to a Windows 7, 64-bit PC via a USB 2.0 port
>2. Apply an X-Rite color profile.
>Is this for your printer are you printing the images or just saving RGB conversions?
The images will eventually be printed by a lab.
>3. Save as a JPG to a specified folder.
>Any resizing or paticilar color profile for the web or prinnter?
Yes, I'll resize the JPGs down. My target is an 8" x 10" print.
>4. Save the NEF to another specified folder.
>again is the transfer fron the camera via usb, firewire ir wireless?
Tethered via a USB 2.0 port.
I'm shooting school photos. I want to capture an NEF to give me a better file to work with later if I need to. However the workflow software I'm using (Flow) is looking for a JPG to appear in a specified folder. I need this to be part of a live workflow because I'm required to produce an ID card on the spot and hand it to the student as they leave the set.
I need to use Flow so I can link the image to the database containing my catalog and the list of students. Using other applications for this part of the process is not an option.

How to Have file/camera info in jpeg copy
I have a Nikon D80. If I make a picture copy in PSD, the camera info (flash, aperature, etc.) is lost.However, the XMP/IPTC info is fine. What should I do? Changing th preferences from sidecar to database didn't help. Thanks!

Sorry, as a long-time user of these forums, I'm not in the habit of clicking on user profiles in order to dig for information—and I'm not inclined to begin to do so now. As a matter of fact, I have such forum "features" blocked through Firefox add-ons. In these forums, it has been the common practice for the last decade or longer to include all pertinent data in the original post if a speedy and relevant reply is desired. At the very least, typing in your post an indication to look in your profile would be appreciated. I'm mentioning this hoping it might be helpful to you in the future.
As to your issue, I cannot replicate what you describe. The screen shots you included mean little to me as I am not a Nikon software user, but they do give me the general idea of what data you're referencing.
I had to dig waaaay back in order to find a JPEG from the camera, as I generally shoot raw. I found a six-year old grab shot from a Pentax *istD DSLR to attempt to replicate your issue, and I was unable to do so. It was the second shot generated by that camera ever, and I was just checking the camera for the first time.
I opened the JPEG in Photoshop 11.0.2 ("CS4"), ran a quick Shadow and highlight adjustment, then did a Save As. All pertinent data was retained (meaning all lines for which I had checked the box in Bridge preferences), as shown in the screen shots below.
Note that Bridge shows only the data you have specified in preferences. If that's where you have been looking, go to your Bridge Preferences > Metadata and click on the boxes corresponding to the info you want to display in that looooooong list.
Command-Click on thumbnail for full-size image
— Incidentally, JPEGs deteriorate every single time you save them or resave them, with no exceptions. The image is compressed (deteriorated) for the first time in the camera when it's recorded to the card. When you resave or "save as" later, you loose quality every single time. That's why I don't generally touch JPEGs. The exceptions are low-res JPEGs to illustrate a point here, usually screen shots like the one above.

Image conversion failed adding profile picture
I just finished my first test install of a Basic Teaming 2.0 site on SLES 11 64bits with SUN's JDK v. 1.6.0_17 and MySql 5.1.39, which went ok. However, when I login and try to add a picture to a profile an X-like image is diplayed instead and I get the following error in the ssf.log file:
WARN [http-8080-2] [com.novell.teaming.docconverter.impl.ImageStellent Converter] - Image conversion failed for testpic.gif: (127) Can't find resource for bundle com.outsideinsdk.ExportResources, key 127
I have not been able to find any info about this in the Doc or forums.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advanceI got your email and as you suspected, your image works fine on a system
that does work.
You mention a "conversion failure". What kind of visual indication are
you getting of that failure? Is anything at all getting posted to the
catalina.out log?

Error retrieving newly captured image from a camera.
Hello Everyone,
I am developing a user<->digital camera interaction application and I have a
problem with accessing newly captured picture. The thing is I am trying to save
the picture directly to the hard disk(this is possible with the camera I am using).
So normally, as stated in the camera PTP specification, the process can be described
in the following steps:
1). PTP command 'capture' - is send successfully to the camera( the camera captures).
2). Event 'RequestObjectTransfer' of ObjectHandle 0x12345678 - is received from the
camera and processed by my application.
3). GetObjectInfo (of ObjectHandle (0x12345678) ) command should be send to the camera.
4). ObjectInfo - received from the camera.
5). GetObject (of ObjectHandle (0x12345678) command send to camera.
6). Object of ObjectHandle (0x12345678) received from the camera.
7). Event TransferReady.
Everything works fine until I try to ask for the object's info:
- (CFDictionaryRef*) copyObjectPropertyDictionary
OSErr err;
ICACopyObjectPropertyDictionaryPB pb = {};
NSDictionary* dict;
pb.theDict = (CFDictionaryRef *)&dict;
pb.object = 0x12345678;
err = ICACopyObjectPropertyDictionary(&pb, NULL); //(**)
if (noErr != err)
NSLog(@"Error retrieving object info!");
else
return dict; // CFDictionaryRef *
return NULL;
The call (**) in the code above results in "err == -9905(kICAInvalidObjectErr)", so can
anybody tell me where my mistake is because there is obviously one (btw I
wrote the same application for Windows and the id 0x12345678 is recognized there.)It is an OS X application, the GUI is already done(not all of the controlls are functional,
there are really a lot of them as the camera tend to be 'semi-professional' == 'a lot of
settings'). Actually, what my application can do at this point is read/write settings
from/to the camera, can 'sense' some event notifications, can capture image when the
camera is on external mode(no memory card) and the images are processed to the
'Current User'/Pitures folder and finally can look pretty sexy
The method that gave me headaches for a week or so was the common ICADownloaFile
it was not recognized by this particular camera as was not the 'copyObjectPropertyDictionary'
posted above. Instead I wrote two PTPPassThrough methods which are now accepted by the

Image from a camera using a video converter to USB
I tring to capture in my LabView app the alive image of a camera that is transmitted to a Tv tuner. I´m using a video converter to USB (PC) I don´t need to process the image I just want to see the image of the camera alive.
When I use a Microsoft LifeCam (usb) conected directely to the usb port I can see the image in my app.
When I use Windows Movie Maker to see the image of my remote camera I can see the image alive.
But, when I use my app with the remote camera it doesn´t work. I can´t see the image.
My app is is attached bellow. As you can see I´m usig Imaqdx and LabView Fall 2011.
Someone could help me?
Thanks in a advance.

CamTuner.vi 43 KBDear Christian,
I don´t know if my device is directshow compatible. May be not, because I tried to see the image using NI Measurement & Automation and I couldn't, besides the device appears in NI-Imaq devices list.
But before this Labview app I made the one that is attached, using labview 8.6 and Imaq for USB. It woked right but because of the property page object every time the app ran a window was open and no matter was checked ok or cancel it worked in the same way. I thought using Imaqdx objects I didn't have this undesirable window. Do you know why it worked using Imaq for USB objects and it didn't using Imaqdx objects?
Thanks in advance.

How Do I export photo's with the camera info attached?
I'm trying to export some photo's to another photographer for some constructive feedback. Is there a way to include my camera info used on each shot, such as ISO, Aperture, Shutter speed, etc attached with the photos?
A few notes:
• Exposure settings are stored in the EXIF information which is stored in the image-format file.
• Any file viewer should be able to show you the EXIF information. You just have to know how to use the viewer.
• As shown, in the OS X program "Preview" use "Tools ▹ Show Inspector" to see the EXIF
• Your friend will have to know how to show the EXIF with the viewer s/he uses.
• The OS X program "Preview" should not be confused with what in Aperture is called a "Preview".
• Previews in Aperture are, in effect, large JPG-format thumbnails. Their existence and size are set in Aperture Preferences.
• Previews exported from Aperture _should_ contain the EXIF info. (Sorry, I can't confirm this right now -- but it is easy to check.)
• Files created by exporting Images from Aperture contain the EXIF by default.
• You can put the exposure settings _on_ the picture or on a border around the picture using the highly-regarded Aperture plug-in BorderFX. I suggest doing this, saving the BorderFX preset, and re-using it for each Image you want to share with your friend.
• Example:
(Sorry -- will add later. Forum software not allowing me to include a picture file.) -
I have an 11" Air with lots of remaining capacity running Mountain Lion. I also have a digital point-and-shoot camera. I have never downloaded images from the camera to this Air. However, if I just connect the camera to the Air's USB port, with the camera's available cable, and the Air is open, will a program like ImageCapture or iPhoto, auomatically come up, and I can begin to download wanted images? Or, will this sort of connection delete or fry everything on the Air? Do I need any other software on board? Will current Apple onboard programs allow me to download images from my camera and not destroy everything else?
Answered. Thanks.

Display image in Smart camera web interface
Hi!
I need some assistance with LV-RT.
What I have succeeded is to enalble the web server on NI 17XX camera and successfully displayed a VI with Image Display on it. I thikn I got the hang of it.
What I would like to know is there another way to display images on the camera web page. I really do not need the whole VI up there just an image and a string with serial number. One way I know would work is to write an image file to the system memory and then embed that image to the web page, but I am not sure that is the best solution as writing process takes time and it is not recommended to write too often to the program memory (am I right?).
So, is there some way to assign some object to say a memory bank and display it (without having to install the runtime maybe) on the page?
Thank you for your attention,
MartHey Mart,
Going back to your original question; are you looking to stream images to a web page from your smart camera or simple see what your camera is seeing when you go to a particular site? Take a look at the sample project below. It is sort of a work around, but it posts an image to a web service. Essentially it snaps an image, saves it, and then posts the saved image to a web service. You will have to change the file path for the image, then build and deploy the webservice from the project view. Also, it would be beneficial to take a look at the webservice build specifications. The webbing to view the snapped image from your local machine would then be viewable from your web browsers at the address : "http://localhost/Stream_Service/ShowImag"
Let us know if you have trouble getting this example working. Also, perhaps another visit to what your end goal is would be helpful. What was it that you had working?
Hope this helps

Photo images from dig. cam [one is error and other won't open] questions
My wife inserted the sd card in the card reader and copied about 70 photo image files to the Mac. The camera that took all the 70 photos was a Panasonic DMC-LZ5 but I don't think the camera model matters much here.
For the first time, 2 of the many images seem to be corrupt. Mac X reports one photo image has an error while trying to open and reports the second image won't open.
My main concern is whether or not to just delete the two error/corrupt jpg images. My other main concern is that I don't want to keep the two images if it could affect or corrupt my hd or Mac system in some way.
I normally just trash corrupted files; however, in this case I went ahead and attempted to open both of the 2 troubled files myself later and they both opened up in Preview and didn't report any error or corruption. However, one of the jpg images defintely is corrupt when viewing it as the bottom of the image is definitely messed up. However, the other image now opens perfectly and looks fine to the eye as if nothing is wrong with it.
Here is a link to the one photo image that isn't quite right [note the obvious distortion at bottom of image]. Link is http://mysite.verizon.net/vzenvo78/question595.jpg
Further very relevant information: The SanDisk sd card that all the 70 images were on is a 1 gig card and the sd card seems to be a total loss. The sd card can't be initialized/formatted by disk utility and furthermore the sd card is no longer recognized by the Panasonic camera - the Panasonic camera won't even preview the images off the card or allow me to format the card even from the camera.Hello,
I see what you are talking about. I just discovered this same exact problem on a friends G5 after he uploaded pics from his Leica.
This is what I did: I ran Disk Utility from the system restore disc to verify and repair the drive. DU reported Volume Bitmap problems. DU was able to repair the disc. Next, I created a new user account and tried uploading the images from the camera to the G5 and it worked just fine. The images loaded like they should.
I also reinstalled the drivers that came with the camera.
Delete any files that your Mac reports as a problem. It's just not worth leaving them on the drive.
So...... run Disk Utility from your system restore disc. If it reports errors, hopefully DU can repair them. If not, one option is to get DiskWarrior here:
www.alsoft.com or TechToolPro4 here: www.micromat.com
One other idea is how old is the card?
Next idea is to create a new user acccount: System Prefs/Accounts. Try using that account to upload the same images. See if they upload as they should. If they do, then the issue isn't system wide, it's just in the other user account.
Remember to always back up your images/audio/data often as you never know when you might need to do either an Archive or Erase and Reinstall.

How to view tagged images from the camera in Lightroom?
How do I see a tagged image from the camera (tagged using the lock button, to remind me of a image I want to find quickly) once imported into Lightroom? This is possible to do in Photomechanic, as I can see all of the tagged images from the camera once opened in Photomechanic. Yet so far I have not found a way to allow me to do this in Lightroom so far. Any solutions welcome please.
There isn't a way to do it that is part of Lightroom. There is a plug-in that might help you, though. Check it out here: Locktastic
It doesn't say if its compatible with LR4, but you can try it to find out.
Plug-ins aren't usually as efficient as built-in functionality (like PM), but it might be a solution for you.
