Automator: is "selective" sync possible?

Hi, everybody!
Hope you can help me solving this problem.
Here's the scenario: I own an external HDD in which I have all my docs (yes: it's regularly backed-up to another external HDD... ), "categorized" in folders-subfolders.
When I need to write and/or make a new Keynote on a topic, I usually plug my HDD into my MacBook, then copy all files I need into a "Documents\Temp" folder, read/annotate/modify all those files in order to make more sense to my research and then put them back.
The way I'm handling this workflow is quite... primitive: I copy files/folders into my Temp dir, then write/paste the path into a TextEdit file, in order to be able to put those files I worked with (and on...) back into their original places.
You can easily understand that this way of work(flow)ing is quite simple if you deal with 5-10 files, but as this number increases the "put-file-back" operation is a real pain.
That's why I was wandering if there is a way to "Automate" this workflow.
Please note:
1. I don't (usually) need all files in a subfolder, nor do I need whole folder(s) and subfolder(s), that's why a simple sync app shouldn't fit my needs.
2. I don't want (better: I can't...) have all my docs in my MacBook, because of space (i.e.: Gigabits...) reasons.
3. Most times I can trash many of the files I copied, because they are unmodified (i.e. I use them as a reference), but there's always a few (say: 10-20) files that are modified. And of course I don't want to loose those changes.
4. Finally: no, I don't want to simply carry my external HDD...
Is there someone that could help me finding a solution? I wrote "Automator" because I think it's strong enough to do this kind of job. But if anyone knows an app that exactly does what I need, please let me know.

Thanks for your question, that clarified it. One more question: when I add a new song or album to iTunes, it appears on my iCloud devices (iPhone, iPad), but I need to download the content (i.e. the songs) manually by tapping on the cloud symbol. I guess there's no setting for automatically download all songs synced to the cloud (I guess that would kind of contradict what you wrote, right)?

If a new mail is present, Automator should: pick up specific text in the mail body; select and open the related Output Excel file (each output Excel file is saved with the name linked with the e-mail address in the Master Excel); append the text on the given worksheet in the Output Excel file; save the output file.
This should be done with all the received mails that match with the Master Excel file
Is it possible do this kind of thing with automator? may be with the support of VBA for some parts?
I would appreciate any suggestion or idea to resources to investigate

I had the same problem and it is a software bug.
SAP release for us a special sap note number 1278473 - "Followup E-mail doesnot contain text of Notes of Activity".
I dont know if this note was release for all customer, but you can open a message to sap asking help.
My message at sap was 946981/2008.

Part of the solution to the previous problem was to delete (really I moved it) the contents of the backup folder. Now I get this message "iTunes was unable to load data class infromation from Sync Services". I moved the folders and files back and it did not help.

An alternate email isn't a rescue email, and it isn't possible to add an actual rescue email without correctly answering two of the questions. If you're desperate enough, create a new Apple ID; you won't be able to transfer previous purchases or iTunes Store credit to it.

It seems you are unable to activate iMessage on a device with no carrier service. The following article provides information regarding activation issues:

Check your device settings
Make sure that you’re connected to a cellular data or Wi-Fi network. If you're using an iPhone, you'll need SMS messaging to activate your phone number with iMessage and FaceTime. Depending on your carrier, you might be charged for this SMS.
Go to Settings > General > Date & Time and make sure that your time zone is set up correctly.

Interaction in the variable selection screen possible?

I have a query with related 3 variables: a Product Division is related to a Hierarchy-name and to a Hierarchy-node. I want the enduser only to fill in 2 variables in the selection screen: Product Division and Hierarchy-node. Is this possible?
If a enduser is entering a Product Division in the variable selection screen, the Hierarchy-name can be derived in CMOD with step2. But now we want an additional second variable selection screen for filling in the Hierarchy-node, which is related to the derived Hierarchy-name in CMOD.

Well, In the exit itself you can try ppopulating the hierarchy node for the second variable too. Think well, it is pretty much possible doing it along with the same code.

If you have iPhoto v9.6.1 then just launch it. Done.
IF you don't, download it:
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

This is a question to people who really knows Oracle internals or/and RDB theory.

This not locking causes a possibility while one session is running a long select, another can truncate and even drop table(s) that are being read by the first session.
I think, humbly assume, that Oracle does not put TM 2 lock on tables, that are being simply SELECTed, by some significant technical reason. But I do not know this reason. If somebody knows please shed a light.
Also, if you know that this behavior is totally correct from perspective of RDB theory, please explain me.
I'll try to explain my point.
It is a matter of data consistency and integrity that is supported in Oracle everywhere except this place.
a) If one session is reading data from moment T and other session changes data on its way at moment T1, the first session wont read that changed data, it will read the data that was there on moment T.
This is declared as Read Consistency principle.
b) If one session is changing data, and another session tries to truncate or drop table - the second session will fail with error ORA-00054: resource busy and acquire with NOWAIT specified.
This is declared as Data Integrity principle.
c) But why not to follow the above principles in case when one session reads data and another session tries to truncate or drop table (or do other DDL operations)?
It is counter-intuitive. Why not to put TM 2 (SS) lock during SELECT execution that would prevent DDLs on this table?
What I only can assume is that this is only because some technical difficulty or limitation.
What is this limitation or other reason in favor of which Oracle sacrificed consistency in this case?

The keyword here is concurrency and that's what is the best when the number of locks obtained are lesser at non-required operations. A select doesn't change anything that's why in Oracle, there is no read-level lock.I am not saying about row locks while reading. It is not very expensive, I suppose. But it would protect from DDLs that can destroy the Select's result set. You have seen in your system and in my demo(and that's what the the question was on the other thread also) that the result remains intact and its not a behavior from now. Its the same since the time I have started learning Oracle. Can you explain that why you think that the result of select statement would be wrong for a drop table? I believe, its been stated repeatedly that if the select has no requirement to look back the table, it would get completed. Only if the select needs to access the table again, it would fail. So even if we consider your explanation, there is no wrong result shown at all. Once the session encounters that the table is dropped for the statement, the execution stops right away. So where is the destroyed result?
Yes, it is less dangerous when Select does not lock table comparing with what would happen with DMLs in such case (that is why DMLs protect themselves by TM 3), it affects only the Select and its consumer, but still ... I don't understand this Oracle's decision. What is a reasoning behind it?.As I said, to improve concurrency.

Automator script to sync podcast folders

Hi everybody.
I would like to create an automator action to sync the podcasts between two itunes libraries, from my macbook to my mac mini and vice versa. The mini is my living room mac, the macbook is used at work during the day but also in my home office after work and on the weekends. I sync my iphone with this macbook and it's itunes library.
So the idea is to
a) always have the most recent podcasts available on mini, macbook and iphone
b) prevent simultaneous downloads when both macs are basically sitting next to each other in the same network
I have been trying to use "find finder items" and "copy finder items" but didn't quite get it right. Is there a way to let automator check if the mini's harddrive is available at all before? I would set up ical to run the script twice a day or so. Does this make any sense at all? Haha.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you guys hava a better idea than to use automator for this, I'm all ears.

Thanks for your comment. Do you currently tether through your BB? I can get access to the internet to use my Outlook but when I try to sync by contacts and calendar, I am unable.

Connect the iPad to your computer then launch iTunes.
Select the iPad under Devices left side of the iTunes window.
You can sync photos and PDF files from the Photos and Books tabs in the menu.

My ipad has finally run out of space and it is largely down to the amount of iphoto videos that Ive synced accross. Is there any way that I can selectively sync only certain videos accross? (similar to check boxes in itunes)

Hey Nick,
You might want to make an album in iPhoto of the videos that you want to store on your iPad, and then just sync that album over. Then you can just keep adding videos (or pictures) to the album and whenever you sync, they will be transferred over.
This is how I usually sync over my iPhoto content. I have a dedicated album in iPhoto that I add photos and videos to, and I only sync that album over.
This picture shows the photos tab in iTunes. You can see that you can select just which album or event to sync. Be sure to select the option to sync photos from "Selected albums, events, and faces, and automatically include no events" and then just check the album you want to send over:
