Automator NOOB - wanna make it play with Photoshop CS5

I am looking to duplicate selected items, then replace the text " Copy" with the text "_scaled". So far I am able to do that very easily in Automator. But I then want to take those items and run them through a Photoshop action.
I am having to do it this way because I cannot get everything I want to accomplish in Photoshop actions (was trying to have PS run the action, then rename and save to the source folder).
Is it possible to do this?
Thanks in advance.

You can do it all in a Photoshop action. Create your action to do all of the processing you want done to your images. Save the action.
Now from within Photoshop, run File > Automate > Batch.
When the dialogue comes up, choose the Set and Action you created. At the bottom, where it shows Document Name, change the one to its right to _scaled. Go to the next line and change the blank entry under Document Name to extension.
All of your images will be processed according to your action, and have _scaled appended to the resulting file on the fly. So a file named test.tif will become test_scaled.tif.

  • Long time PS user trying to make LR4 cooperate with Photoshop CS5

How can I "Edit in Photoshop" (ctrl+E) without having Lr4 dump the PSD in the middle of my raw files? Why is it even doing that?
I have everything tightly organized on disk, with strict separation between raw files and PSD master files, so this is really the last thing I need. All I want is a rendered file from Lightroom opened into Photoshop, and staying there, so I can save it from Photoshop. Is that at all possible?

Normally you don't get any message on editing in PS from Lightroom.  It simply passes the file to PS to render (behind the scenes) using ACR.  You get the warning if LR thinks the version of ACR in PS is older than the one built-in to LR.  In this case, the safer option is to get LR to convert to TIF or PSD (whatever you've set in the edit option), and PS then opens this.  Technically it will need ACR7 (with Photoshop CS6) to be fully compatible, but ACR6.7 is supposed to work (though with the RC version you still get the warning for some reason).
However, provided the version is compatible, or you choose "render in Lightroom" then the LR edits get through to CS.
As others have said, LR is pretty good for managing all versions of your files, and for that it makes sense to keep all the versions in the same folder.  By default, the Photoshopped version is "stacked" alongside the raw.
In LR you may often have only one version of an image - the raw.  If you need multiple LR-edited versions, Virtual Copies mean you still need only one file. If you use photoshop you get another (PSD or TIF) file (more if you have multiple edited versions), but I keep them all stacked together so I can see them in one place in LR.  However, I don't have multiple further versions for web export, print export, an export for a gallery, another export for an album...  Lightroom's "Collections" and export presets make it very easy to create temporary exports for a specific purpose (e.g. for the web).  Then I delete the exported version once it's on the web (or whatever).  If I need that web set again, I recreate it in LR from the originals - only takes a few clicks - which means I benefit from any further editing I've done.

  • Why cannot I open NEF files from a Nikon D600 with Photoshop CS5?

When I try to open raw NEF files from a Nikon D600 with Photoshop CS5 I get: "Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw"
Nikon D600, however, is among the camera models listed as compatible with Camera Raw CS5.
I have never had any problem in Camera Raw CS5 and older versions with raw NEF files from a Nikon D80 camera.
Is there an update for CS5 to make it compatible with Nikon D600 raw NEF files?
    Many thaks in advance.

Which verison of camera raw do you have installed? I would update to the latest camera raw plug in. Here is a link to 6.7

  • Stretched photos after editing with photoshop CS5

When I crop a photo with photoshop CS5 and then go and review it in Iphoto the picture looks like the unedited version in the "events" but when i double click on it it appears streteched. How do I fix this?
Also, when I edit a photo with CS5 (for ex: cool a picture if it is too warm) then go to look at it in iphoto it looks like the unedited version and once I click on the photo I can see the edited version.

The following is how Photoshop should be used from within iPhoto:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
NOTE: With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
Note:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.

  • Is there something wrong with Photoshop CS5 text tool?

  • Existing Actions and Plugins Compatible with Photoshop CS5?

I have actions and plug-in products, and while I've done everything I can to make them future-proof, I'm wondering if any Photoshop CS5 beta testers can speak to whether existing actions and plugins are generally compatible with Photoshop CS5?
    Specifically:
Are existing 32 bit Windows (PC) plugins proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
Are existing 64 bit Windows (PC) plugins proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
Are existing actions (both platforms) proving to be compatible with Photoshop CS5?
I'm anxiously awaiting the go-ahead to download my copy to verify everything, but I'm just trying to get a feel for whether I'll have work to do.  I'm hoping for the level of compatibility seen in CS3 and CS4 - all my software worked perfectly with no changes.
    Thanks.

I appreciate you all taking the time to answer, but none of you has actually said what DOES happen with your existing actions / plugins and CS5 beta.
I know that experience with one set of actions and plugins doesn't guarantee operation with another, but if, for example, someone actually stated, "all my old plugins failed to work with CS5" or "they all seemed to work okay" then I'd have a better idea of what to expect.
Please keep in mind I've been developing commercial actions since PS6 and plugins since CS2, and all my software works on all 32 bit versions and 64 bit CS4 on Vista x64 and Windows 7 x64, so I'm intimately familiar with what might happen and what should happen.  Plus I've programmed them to be quite resilient, and I don't expect any of the CS5 feature changes to break them.  What I don't know is whether Adobe has fundamentally altered the plugin interface this time around, or has deprecated any old filters, causing a plugin or action that used to work to fail now.  The word "rewrite" has been used to describe CS5, and that has me wondering.
In short, I'm really looking for actual experience with the CS5 beta here.
Wish I could get the CS5 SDK already.  I don't understdand why Adobe doesn't release that in advance.
    Thanks.

  • My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images

    Any ideas?

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?

  • Which iMac for use with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom

Any opinions on which iMac is best for use with Photoshop CS5 and Lightroom. Not sure if the 2.7 i5 with 512 graphics card is Plenty of power or if upgrading to the 3.1 i5 or 3.4 i7 is a wiser choice given the price differences. Appreciate the help

So I was reading over your post, and even though this is older and has to do with CS5, I have some information for CS6 that will be relevant to your question now that it is time to upgade the software. In general Photoshop has always been more about RAM than Processing power, though that is important too. Until CS5 it could never quite take advantage of what multi-core processors really had to offer, and even the graphics card didn't really effect much of it outside of certain features and the 3D optio
Now that is no longer true and Adobe can effeciently use all aspects of the computer to give you much better performance.
So much so that I was able to buy a brand New ASUS with the following specs:
    Dual Core 2.2GHz Processors
8GB of RAM (4GB original to the machine)
Windows 7 Home Premium 64Bit OS
    320GB HDD w/ 5400RPM
This machine not only runs photoshop CS6 and Launches in less than 5 Seconds... it can run Premier and After Effects as well, and this Laptop cost me less than $400 (on sale at Best Buy 2 Weeks Ago. You don't have to buy something this cheap, but isn't it great that you can and still run Master Collection effectively?

What is the most advanced version of ACR that can be used with Photoshop CS5?
Will it open RAW files from a Canon 5D Mark III ?

CS5 can use up to ACR 6.7.1.  CS6 started with ACR 7.0.
The 5D Mark III was first supported with ACR 6.7.
ACR 6.7.1 can be downloaded from the Camera Raw Mac and Win links on the Adobe Download page:

  • Can I complete level 5 with Photoshop CS5?

Not so much a question as a bug report. In Photoshop CS5, lesson number 5 (straighten a photo) doesn't work. The mechanism works (get the ruler and choose 'straighten'), but it doesn't detect that you have completed it because the button in CS6 is named "straighten layer" rather than "straighten". Works fine with the CS6 trial. I'm user "John Hattan", email [email protected] if you need more particulars.

  • Compatibility of Camera Raw with Photoshop CS5

Just bought a new camera (Canon T3i).  Took a scandisk full of pics in "Camera Raw".  Tried to open in Photoshop and got messsage that "Camera Raw" from my camera is not compatible with Photoshop CS5.  What can I do??

Download the most recent version of ACR which for CS5 is ACR 6.7. (which if you had mentioned your system I could have pointed you to the download). You'll just have to find it yourself in the Adobe Updates.

    Welcome to the forum
You cannot upgrade to a standalone program from a Suite.
But to answer your question: yes you can edit Encore CS3 menus with Photoshop CS5.
