Automator question - audiobooks to itunes, garageband, then itunes again

I get audio books from the library because they currently are too expensive to buy. For example. There are a series of books called, "The Cat Who" books. If I buy all of these it would run about $25 each for 29 books which, according to Leapard calculator would be $725. I'm not poor but this is just too much.
So ... as I said, I get the books from the library. As much as I can I get them on CDs but not all of these books or other books are available on CD so I have to get audio tapes.
I have the necessary hardware to connect my tape deck (old boombox from the 80s) to my iMac (Roland Edirol UA-20 if you are curious) and am using Roxio's CD Spin Doctor software to import the audio.
So far I have not been able to find a way to do this with GarageBand. When I try it stops importing after about 5 minutes and each side of the audio tapes are 45 minutes.
The combination of the Roland Edirol UA-20 (24-bit Digital USB Audio/MIDI Interface) and CD Spin Doctor will only let me create AIFF (CD) audio files which result it files that range from 800+ to 1.5GB file sizes. Obviously a lot bigger than I want or need for spoken word audio tapes.
GarageBand will not accept these files as it. So currently I am importing these into iTunes then having iTunes convert the files to AAC files which end up being 40 to 60 mb files. Better but still not small enough plus I need to edit out the beginning and end of the audio files because I push play on the tape player and record in CD Spin Doctor and let it go. CD Spin doctor is set to auto stop after 60 minutes (there are no choices between 45 minutes and 60 minutes and the tapes are usually about 47 minutes long.
So ... after converting them to AAC as smaller files I right click on the file in iTunes and tell it to show me the file in Finder. I then open up GarageBand (if it isn't open already), create a new Podcast (because you can choose "male voice with lots of noise" to clean up the audio), and drag and drop the audio file into GarageBand, edit it, then click on Share and pick "Share to iTunes" which does what it says and the file is a 40something mb file. I then clean up the info for that "song" then right click on it one more time to make it an even smaller AAC file of around 17 to 20 mbs.
What is all this about? Well I would like to make some automator scripts that automate as much as possible.
What I've got so far is a script that will prompt me to select the file(s) I want to import into iTunes and convert it automatically to AAC at the setting I have for importing files into iTunes.
Note: I wish I could have something that would change the preferences for audiobooks and convert it back to what I want for importing music CDs so that I don't have to manually do this (mainly because I forget to manually change it and this is really frustrating).
I also cannot find any automator functions for automating the process of opening GarageBand, creating a new Podcast. At this point the script should end so that I can do my editing. I have no problem with manually clicking on Share to iTunes.
I would then like a new script that prompts me for the edited file and re-imports it into iTunes (preferrably again setting the AAC import setting I would like for iTunes.
Any and all constructive ideas and help are extremely welcome.

It would only be stealing if I kept it on my computer and/or iPod or anywhere else after I listened to it, which I don't.
I repeat. I don't keep them. I import them into my iPod. My wife and I listen to them, then I delete them off my computer and iPod leaving me with zero copies of the books after I listen to them.
So why do I do this then? Because it is a LOT more convenient to listen to them through the iPod than through CDs or audio tapes. I would just like it to be more convenient to get them off audio-tapes to listen to them.
I would be more than happy to buy them if they were closer to $10 each. Until then, I'll have to borrow them from the library and delete them after I listen to them.

Do a hard reset, put it in DFU Mode and do a manual install, as outlined in the link below.

Yes, provided the movie is still in the iTunes Store.
You can re-download content purchased from the iTunes store (availability varies depending on location) using the purchased option from the Quick Links section in the top right corner of the iTunes homepage in your iTunes application on your computer.

When I have my iTunes library on an external drive, but I forget to connect my external drive before opening iTunes, so then iTunes creates a library taking up room on my MacBook Air, can I just delete the iTunes library folder on my MacBook Air?

So I have a MacBook Air, but it doesn't have a lot of storage inside of it. So I set iTunes to sort all media files (it copies things as I add them and puts them in the iTunes folder) and I set the iTunes folder to my external ntfs drive. This has been working fine, but I find that sometimes iTunes starts adding stuff to the folder on the Air itself. I don't know if this is me adding files to iTunes when the external wasn't connected, or what, but is it OK to just keep deleting that library on the Air? Otherwise it keeps building up multiple GBs. Or will just deleting it do something bad with my lecture videos and music when I sync an iOS device? I'm really worried about doing something wrong with my large collection and have iTunes delete it or not sync with my iOS device and I won't be able to figure out how to set everything up again.
Also, should I format my drive to HFS+ rather than ntfs? The ntfs hasn't seem to be causing any problems, but I've always wanted to know. I keep everything on my external and sometimes it needs to interact with friends computers or school computers.

in order for your Mac to write to NTFS drives, it needs some help by installing e.g. the NTFS 3G driver. apparently that or something similar is installed on your Mac already. preferably, it would be formatted for Mac but then windows machines would need to have e.g. MacDrive installed to recognize the drive.

Same thing happened here ~ tech guy at a local authorized Apple repair store said it had something to do with improper backup from which the restore would be made. Still have a phone that asks to be connected to Itunes but won't do anything else . . . frustrated.

I tryed to reinstall it, unlink the PC and link it with my apple account ... unsolved problem.

garageband : create & edit audio. add 1400x1400 image.
share to itunes.
drag file to desktop.
upload .m4a file to google drive.
create a link post in wordpress using "podcast" tag & create "podcast" category.
click on "entries rss" in wordpress, which takes me to the rss subscribe page (which is basically just my wordpress address with "/feed" at the end.
i copy this url.
go to itunes store > then "submit a podcast"
itunes gives me the error message "we had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed."
when i try to subscribe to my podcast in itunes, it does, but gives me no episodes available.
i went back into wordpress and changed settings/ reading settings to : "full text" from "summary"
still the same error message.
i added a feedburner step after wordpress but got the same errors. i don't think i should have to add feedburner.
wordpress seems to be encapsulating the rss, what am i doing wrong?
this so much easier when you could go directly from garage band to iweb to mobileme; i miss those apple days (also idisk).

I guess I asked the question in the title, anyway one more time:I am copying audiobooks on multiple CDs to Itunes so that I can sync them to an Ipod and listen to them, how do I keep the multiple disks inone folder under one book title and how do I keep the tracks from intermingling with the tracks from another disk? EXAMPLE: I just downloaded one book, consisting of three CDs and I see the Track o1 information from each CD in sequence followed by three Track 02, instead of all tarcks from the first CD followed by the tracks of the next CD etc.

I have no way of following all of those steps successfully since I am about butterfingered a sthe last dinosaur and will make every mistake in the world and get frustrated with something that SHOULD be simple.
I have the three disk autobook showing in iTunes library as one title , I had to enter the dat amyself since it was not listed on the internet data base, All entries for all tracks match and I have indicated the disk number as one, two or three of three as indicated.
Yet when I sync the iTunes to the iPod I am being presented with each individual track listed in the Audiobook Menu.
I am using the latest version of iTunes and a iPod Classic 160G-- that I purchased three days ago purposefully for the converting of the audiobooks to a portable device since the Library of Congress ( NLS BARD ) books are formatted differently and the player is bulky.
Does anybody hav eany other ideas?

This is a handicap accessability problem since my wife cannot see and depends on these audio books.

Another user had success doing the following:
I got some help from an apple assistant on the phone. It is kind of round about way to get in.
Here is what he said to do and it is working for me...
a. on the device that is asking you for the security questions go to "settings", > "store" >
      tap the Apple ID and choose view"Apple ID" and sign in.
b. Tap on payment information and add a credit/debit card of your preference then select
      "done", in the upper right corner
c. sign out and back into iTunes on the device by going to "settings"> "store" > tap the
      Apple ID and choose "sign-out" > Tap "sign -in" > "use existing Apple ID" and you
      should be asked to verify your security code for the credit /debit card and NOT the
      security questions.
d. At this time you can remove the card by going back in to edit the payment info and
      selecting "none" as the card type then saving the changes by selecting "done". You
      should now be able to use your iTunes store credit without answering the security
      questions.
It's working for me ...I just have to put in my 3 digit security pin from the credit card I am using.

Thanks for the question. Based on the information you have provided, it sounds like your device is not detected in iTunes for Windows. The following resource may help resolve this issue:

My MacBook Pro 10.6.8 prompted me of a new itunes update this morning, so i downloaded it. Since then itunes has been starting up randomly on its own, and starts playing the first song on the list. I pause the song, and it resumes it on its own again. I'm not joking. So, I end up quiting out of itunes; but, it starts right back up again on its own. After quiting out of the app a few times, it eventually stops reopening; however, about an hour later (or less) it opens again. HOW DO I MAKE IT STOP? I'm just about to delete itunes, because I've had enough of this crap. I hope someone can help. I've restarted the laptop, and it seemed like that fixed it, then itunes started up doing the same thing again an hour later. ituneshelper is unchecked; bluetooth is off; i only have speakers and a mouse plugged in (also charger).
