Automator. Safari downloaded file

Hi everybody, first of all, thank you for your time.
I would like to use automator to do the following action
1/ When I am on safari visiting 9gag, sometime I download some picture or .gif because they are good.
2/ I would like automator to transfer any downloaded file from a specific website to go to a specific folder. (in my case "image/-")
I hope I am clear enough, and I am looking forward to hear your answer.

Why not just right click (option-click) on the image and choose Save Image As…

Safari downloading files illegally

I tried to open the following site using Safari v 5.1.5 whilst running
Mac OS X 10.7.3. The site:
www.cliftonchilliclub.co.uk/
opened apparently normally, but immediately downloaded 5 files to my
desktop without asking or receiving permission. The 5 files are named:
snippet-1.cgi, snippet-2.cgi. snippet-3.cgi, snippet-4.cgi,
snippet-5.cgi.
Apparently these are portions of the web site that Safari can't open for
some reason. Firefox, Opera and Camino all open the site but show
errors when displaying the site on the page itself.
In this day and age, and with fears of virus all over the web, isn't
this bad practice on the part of the writers of Safari to allow this to
happen?
Can Safari be set up to stop this from happening again.
I haven't opened these xxxxxxxx.cgi files. But I understand they are just
error messages, however this strikes me as dangerous behaviour.

Merely downloading a file (harmless files from a misconfigured web server, in this case) is not dangerous in itself. As long as you don't open the files, they can't affect you, no matter what's in them.

Drag File From Safari Download Window to Other Volume - Moves not Copies File - Bug or Feature ?

Hi,
Appreciate comment on what I thought was unusual Mac OS behavior. Running Safari 5.1.5, OS 10.6.8.
Mac OSs in my experience copy a file when it is dragged and dropped to another volume/drive. (Let's leave classic desktop out of this.)
It may be the first time I've ever done it in any version of Safari, but just dragged a file directly from the Safari Downloads panel onto another drive's icon - and it appeared to "move" the file from its original download destination to the other drive and not simply copy it onto the other drive.
Didn't look like a copy and standard Finder delete since I didn't see file in the trash, although it was gone from the finder window for the download folder (Desktop in my prefs), and afterwards Safari Download Window magnifying glass icon "can’t show the file “filename” in the Finder because “filename” has moved since you downloaded it." It's reproducible.
Assuming it's not unique to my configuration, is this a bug or "feature" ?

From the Safari Menu Bar click Safari/Preferences then select the General tab.
You can deselect: Open "safe" files after downloading.

Safari Crashes when attempting to download files

Ever since I uninstall DAP (Download Accelerator Plus), I can no longer download files. For example, when I click to download a zip or dmg file, (direct http) Safari (2.0 412) crashes with the following message:

I know nothing about “EndNote”, but allow me to give you some general advice. Your first, commented-out, line (“--section to wait for window to pop up”) indicates that you need to change the basic way you are tackling what you want to do. When writing any script, if you know the name and location of a file or a directory (folder) you should not cause (or allow, or need) your script to open an Open or a Save window -- just use the path that you already know.

I purchased an Ipad (original) for my father in law and it will sometimes give an error ' Safari can not download file' and it will not go to any website. Weatherbug won't connect. Any app that connects to the internet does the same thing. Connecting to the internet thru airport express connected to a dsl modem. Other windows based machine connected to the internet fine. You can't download something from Safari to your iPad. iPad is a closed system, and not subject to virus intrusion. Now, if for example you have a Kindle app and you go directly to Kindle in Safari and using your ID you buy a book, the book will download to your Kindle account, which you could then open your kindle App on your iPad and read the book you downloaded in your App. But you can't go into Safari and just download a book or a movie directly to your iPad from the net........

I am trying to find a bank program that let's me run a budget and check register. I am trying to download a qif file to import my bank information but I get an errorbthat says safari can not download that type of file

Just a theory but I think it holds some water, you can't download the file because you don't have an app that will let you save the file to on the iPad. I think that makes sense. I just downloaded a .qif from my bank site as a test and I was able to open the file in DropBox - not in any useful way - but I was able to save the downloaded file. My point is that if you choose one the apps the Dah-Veed has suggested to you, then you should be able to download the file if they work with the .qif format and I will trust Dah-Veed on that point.
If there is no app that can handle the file on your iPad, you more than likely cannot download the file and that's why you get the message. You are "putting the cart before the horse" by trying to download the file.

You can't download files in Safari anyway, but even if you use another app to save the video, it will still take up space on your iPad.
It's not possible to store something on your iPad without it taking up space.

Safari 4.0.4 fails to download files

I'm unable to download files simply by clicking a link. If I do this Safari tries to open the file in a new browser window. I have to right click the link and ask it to save Linked file as --
This causes lots of problems when the website askes for an email address before sending the file as it then gets sent to a browser window again. In such cases I have to use firefox. Is there a setting I can change?

If you have not done so, reset Safari and then trash the preference file (com.apple.safari.plist). Then restart your computer and reenter your Safari personal preferences.

Safari - spyglass to open downloaded file in Finder fails

Just upgraded to 9.0 mavericks - I use Pathfinder 6 - fixed (no more hang).
Download in Safari work just fine and end up in the right folder but I can't use the spyglass to highlight a downloaded file in a finder winder
I get an error about not finding the file because it has moved (it hasn't tho)
Any suggestions on how to fix this?

it didnt work, i tried chrome as well, but now found a way around it, actually the system was set to open files in the previewer, so I had save as the pdf file and then open it with pdf, and it worked.

Safari adding .hqx to downloaded file name

I am on an imac with mac os x 10.4.11 and safari 3.0.4. I download a mac cd image file with filename of the form x.y.z.iso. safari downloads it but, mysteriously, adds .hqx to the name so it stores on my mac as x.y.z.iso.hqx. Then it tries to unstuff it and says it is not an encoded file. Of course it is not. It is a volume image. if i rename the downloaded file to x.y.z.iso and double click on it, it brings up the volume just fine on my desktop and I can open it.
Does anyone know why Safari would decide to add .hqx to a file name on download?

I think you are in essence describing what is happening, except for how I got there. In our infinite wisdom in taking this original file, we set up the download with some file type info or some such that we figured Mac would like better. It messed it up. that is why I could never figure out why a file destined as a WINDOWS iso image never was mishandled by Safari. it downloaded it and even produced a volume entry when opened, on the mac desktop.
once we stopped messing with the mac image file and just downloaded it as it came, Safari downloaded it correctly and did not add .hqx to it. thanks.
