Automator/Workflow actions are in "slow-motion" under Mac OS X 10.6.x

Hi,
after the update to SL some of my Automator Workflows dont work properly.
I do things like copy some part of sentence from a .rtf document and insert it into a input box of a website in firefox.
In 10.5.8 everything worked like a charm. But in 10.6.x the same workflow (also new created) works some times and the other time it slows down and the cursor moves like a slow-motion. Pixel for pixel and i cannot stop the workflow. I only can wait until the workflow is finished (takes in "slow-down" mode 30 minutes) or i do a hardreset. I wonder if anyone else such of this problems with automator under 10.6
I tested the same things with my mac mini that i didnt upgraded and it works like expected.
I think you can reproduce the behaviour, if you create a new .rtf document with numbers from one to twelve and make a workflow where you mark 4 letters, cut, bring firefox to front, paste into form, go to .rtf, mark next 4 letters, cut, go to firefox, paste into form, doing that until there are no more letters.
very curious...

the whole automator and in particular the record action was substantially rewritten in snow leopard. and the record action is slow, unreliable and you can't trouble-shoot it. it's a wonder it works at all. the only advice i can give is to use it as little as possible. if at all possible avoid it altogether. if you do need to use it try using keyboard strokes instead of the mouse movement. for example. use command+c and command+v for copying and pasting and use tabbing to choose the correct box on the page.

  • Long page edits are in slow motion

I am creating a long page with text and imbedded pictures. All my edits, placement of pictures, typing in general are in slow motion like the page is getting too large. I have 9 pictures and 3 short videos inserted and lots of text. Any idea why everything is so sluggish?

Too much stuff on the page. Nobody likes scrolling down long pages and 9 images and 3 videos is way too much.
If its sluggish in iWeb, how long will it take to download in the browser? One video with a good text description is enough per page.

  • Scripted actions are glacially slow

    Windows 8, CS5 64 & 32
I'm using Margulis' PPW set which is an extension panel and associated actions. When the actions are invoked by the panel, they run slow enough to time with a calendar, except for the rare occasion when they run as they should -- no pattern established yet (just downloaded PPW this morning). The actions run fine if launched from the actions palette.
It also appears another extension is also running at less than full speed, but it's not nearly as complex so I hadn't really focused on its behavior. So it seems this is not a new thing, but it's now become unbearable using PPW.
    Any ideas?

    Michael L Hale wrote:

Ah, sorry to be so... obtuse.
I'm hopeful that the next version will bring a fix but I'm not betting the farm on it. I think there's something in Win8, or maybe my installation of it, that is causing the issue. Here's why:
I have a second extension from another Margulis assosciate, and probably an associate of those who did the work on PPW. That extension is the Floating Adjustments Panel, available here: http://blog.rbg.bigano.com/2011/05/04/free-cs-extension-1-floating-adjustments/
Under Win7 (same computer before the OS upgrade), when clicking in the panel for a Curves adjustment the response is instant. Under Win8, it's not... except when it is. Meaning that it's a slug most of the time except for brief periods when it runs as it should -- just like PPW.

  • Preview area in slow motion

I have a copy of Premiere Elements 4.0 which I have been using for quite a while and I have run across a new problem that I have never run into before. I was working on a new project when suddenly my preview area started showing everything in slow motion (complete with slowed sound) and I can't seem to get it back. Even with starting a new project and rendering the work area.
The video size I'm working with is standard YouTube size 760 x 620. It is an HD file too.
    My computer specs:
    Windows Vista Pro
Dual Intel Quad Cores 2.3 a head
    16 gig RAM
    NVidia GTX 680 MaxCore 55 (1 gig)
    1.2 tb avaible HDD space
If anyone can tell me why it suddenly decided to do this, I'd be greatly thankful.

  • Slow motion and time measurement

Hi I have a problem and im wondering can someone here help me with it. Im trying to measure time in my .mov file. I wish to slow down the movie and measure time in the movie. Is there anyway of doing this. Im hoping to measure it quite accurately

    Hi -
The short answer is yes, this is possible by using iMovie, Final Cut Express or Final Cut Pro to slow the movie down.
The problem is the precision of the time intervals displayed will be based on the original frame rate of the video - slowing the video down does not add temporal resolution, on the other hand, it demonstrates the relatively low temporal resolution of video at nominal rates of 30 fps - effectively 30 samples per second.
The only method you have of counting time between the start point of the action and the end point of the action is to count the frames that occur between those two points and divide them by the frame rate used to shoot the video. This might be easier to do with the movie running in slow motion, but it will not increase the accuracy - you just see the frames go by, each frame individually held for display in longer intervals.
There are high-speed cameras that shoot at 1000 fps available for rental which when you slowed down will allow you much greater precision in seeing action unfold in slow motion - but the rental charges can be staggering:

    Hope this helps.

  • Automator workflows in Calender

I have some Automator workflows which are scheduled to run from events in my calendar. The events are set up to open the workflow file and not do anything else, specifically not displaying any message. They are supposed to run on all my computers, so I sync my calendar through iCloud. This means they also end up on my iOS devices since there is no way to choose which calendars to sync to which devices as far as I know. And on iOS a message is displayed at the time when the workflow should run. Is there any way to avoid this? Also since Mountain Lion this happens on the Macs as well. A notification alert is shown that I have to dismiss.

    nobody any idea...?

  • Applescript .app stopping Automator workflow

Hi. I'm still a novice at Applescript, but getting better with Automator, and trying to combine the two to get the result I need, and I'm almost there except this one little glitch:
I've got an Automator workflow that involves an Applescript application (.app) which for some unknown reason halts the rest of the workflow despite it seemingly working right. The Applescript does little more than quit a specific application, which it does. But when I run the workflow from Automator I get the error: "Connection is Invalid"
Any help here would be greatly appreciated - is there something I should do differently with the script? Or should I handle this differently in Automator?
    Thanks!
Below is the text of the script:
    tell application "OmniOutliner"
    tell every document
    try
    save
    on error errormessage number errornumber
display dialog errormessage buttons {"OK"} default button 1
    end try
    end tell
    end tell
    quit application "OmniOutliner"

    First,
'... is there something I should do differently with the script? ...' - Based only on the material provided - the AppleScript code (the 'save' line) assumes no 'Untitled' 'OmniOutliner' windows, otherwise the drop down 'Save' sheet will result with a 'Script Editor' error message of -> 'AppleScript Error. OmniOutliner Professional got an error: AppleEvent timed out.'. This error, or something similar, may be what is generating the 'Automator' 'Connection is Invalid' error message.
Try the code below, in place of your AppleScript source code - with any needed modifications (such as 'OmniOutliner' in place of 'OmniOutliner Professional').
    -- Code starts here --
    tell application "OmniOutliner Professional"
close (every document whose (name begins with "Untitled" and canUndo is false)) saving no -- Close any newly created documents, which have not been modified.
set {tDocuments, dNames} to {documents, name of documents} -- Create lists of opened documents and the documents titles (names).
repeat with i from 1 to (count tDocuments) -- Cycle through the tDocuments list.
if ((item i of dNames) contains "Untitled") then -- If a newly created document, and recently modified - then, save it with a date stamped name, to the 'Desktop'..
save (item i of tDocuments) in ((((path to desktop folder from user domain) as string) & (do shell script "date +%Y%m%d%H%M%SOmniOutliner.oo3")))
else if ((canUndo of (item i of tDocuments)) is true) then
save (item i of tDocuments) -- If a previously created document, and recently modified.
    end if
    end repeat
    end tell
quit application "OmniOutliner Professional" -- Any opened but not modified documents, or any recently saved documents - will be closed here.
    -- Code ends here --
Note: No detailed checking is provided, above, for files that contained 'Untitled' within the filenames, and were then opened in 'OmniOutliner Professional'; as opposed to, any newly created document - which will contain 'Untitled' as its name or the beginning of its name. Such is left as an exercise for the student.
    Second,
'... should I handle this differently in Automator?' - Please provide the 'Automator' workflow Actions.

  • Slow Motion Video in Revel

    Few questions...
When will slow motion playback be supported?
Are the slow motion ranges saved in the video or is this extra information not stored in the video container?
Will the ability to save video to the camera roll be added?

I'll take this feature request to product management.  I can't say if or when such support will be available.  In the meantime, as a workaround use iMovie to export your video with the slo-mo effect to your Camera Roll so Revel can import the processed version.

  • Slow Motion songs

I have a 3rd Generation Nano and for some reason my songs on the ipod have slowed down. I mean they sound like they are in slow motion, like they are being played on "Tape" and someone is holding the tape making the song sound funny.
Has anyone run in to this problem and if so is there a fix?
    Thanks

One of two options: iTunes 7.x is a bit sluggish to say the leat. So, either turn OFF the option in Advanced > Importing to "Play songs while importing" or don't play the CD whiles its importaning.
Whats happening is that it imports the music off the CD faster than real time - many times faster. SO whiles its reading the data in for importing you are listening to the music in real time, which means the laser of the CD player has to jump back and forth on the CD to both IMPORT the music and PLAY the music.
Easy suggestion: Start importing the music, wait til it mananges to get at least one song fully imported, then goto your iTunes Library, find that newly imported song, then play the imported copy. Then let the import do its thing. WIth todays machines, the import takes only a few minutes. THis is more the fault of how a CD player works than iTunes.

  • Slow motion and recording options on x1

Is it possible to view a recording in slow motion?
Is it possible to capture an entire program if recording is started after the program begins?
The previous dvr offered through Comcast was able to do both. Also, it didn't lose recording capacity due to those early a.m. reboots, which is often rare and rather obscure movies are shown.

  • 10.9.2 is so slow on a MAC PRO 2011

    OMG
i took a chance and upgraded from 10.6.8 on my fully optimized MAC PRO
on the IMAC 2012  things go faster
    what a fool i am
why are things slower on the MAC pro
and faster with the older system??
    i repeat OMG

How much RAM installed in your Mac Pro,
How full is your Mac's hard drive?
Do you run any antivirus software on your Mac? Antivirus software can slow down the normal operation of OS X as well having negative performance effects on OS X and other adverse system issues.
Do you have apps like MacKeeper or any other maintenance apps like CleanMyMac 1 or 2, TuneUpMyMac or anything like these apps, installed on your Mac?
These types of apps, while they appear to be helpful, can do too good a job of data "cleanup" causing the potential to do serious data corruption or data deletion and render a perfectly running OS completely dead and useless leaving you with a frozen, non-functional Mac.
Plus, these type of apps aren't really necessary.
    They really aren't.
There are manual methods to clear off unnecessary data off of your Mac that are safer and you have complete control over your Mac and not just leave a piece of auto cleaning software in charge of clearing off data off of your Mac.
Their potential of causing OS X issues outweighs the implied good and benefits these types of hard drive or memory "cleaning" apps are written to do.
Plus, the software company's that write these apps make it hard to easily uninstall these apps if something DOES go wrong and these apps work in a way where you have no recovery or revert function to return your Mac back to its former, working state in the event something does go wrong.
It is best to never download and install these types of apps.
The risk to your system and data is too great a risk!
Your Mac Pro could have Mavericks incompatible hardware and/or software.
You may need to update all of your third party software if there are OS X Mavericks updates that can be applied. You may need to, ACTUALLY,  go to the third party developers' websites if there are no updates through the Mac App Store.
Update all of your Web browser Internet plugins, also.
Also, if you have any connected third party devices, like non-Apple, third party keyboards, mice, drawing tablets, hubs, card  readers, etc, you need to go to the device maker's website and update the drivers for these devices to OS X Mavericks compatible versions, if available or needed.

  • When I sync videos onto my PC they are 'faded' and play in slow motion. Any suggestions

When I sync videos onto my pc they are 'faded' and run in slow motion.  Is this a fault with my pc or the sync process?

Photos transferred from your computer to your iPhone via the iTunes sync/transfer process is a one way transfer process only - from your computer to your iPhone.
As with iTunes content, photos can be transferred to an iPhone from a single computer only. When transferring photos from another computer, all photos transferred from a different computer will be erased from the iPhone first with a warning message provided indicating this will happen before doing so.
Photos transferred from your computer is selected under the Photos tab for your iPhone sync preferences with iTunes, and any photos transferred from your computer should remain on your computer. If you have a single folder of photos selected to be transferred from your computer and switch to a different folder of photos, the first folder of photos currently on your iPhone will be erased from your iPhone first with a warning message provided before this occurs, but all photos transferred from your computer should remain on your computer.
Photos in your iPhone's Camera Roll are not included with the iTunes sync process except for being included with your iPhone's backup, which is updated as the first step during the iTunes sync process. Photos transferred from your computer via the iTunes sync process are not included with your iPhone's backup, but these photos should remain on your computer and be included with your computer's backup along with all other important data.

  • Best workflow for slow motion from Canon 7D?

    Hey guys,
I am working with a slow motion clip for the first time and I am realizing that there isn't really an easy workflow with this. First of all, the clip was filmed with the Canon 7D, 60 fps. When I put in on the timeline, obviously I get rid of the audio. But then if I slow it down to 50% I get the typical frame blending crappy looking image that FCP gives me EVEN THOUGH the sequence settings are set to playing 30fps. In reality, I thought that when I import the clip in the timeline with those settings the clip would automatically be double-length... Stupid me. It's treating the clip like a normal regular clip and so when I slow it down it does the same thing it does with all clips - a terrible job at slow motion. So basically, at 50% it should be playing every frame and there should be no frame blending but apparently that's not the case.
So.. What's the best way to work with this? I tried putting the clip on a separate sequence and then slowing it down which did a much better job but then I had to export the clip out of FCP and bring it back in as a "new slow motion" clip if I wanted to preserve the effect. What happens if I have more than one clip? Is there a way to do "batch export" on all of them at once and not just one clip at a time? What's the fastest and best way to work with a 60fps clip in FCP and mix it in with the rest of my clips which are 30fps without it looking like crap?
I also just found out about Optical Flow in Motion and that's great but wow... the render time is many many hours for a 5 minute clip... that's crazy. I don't have that kind of time.
    So... Please help! Thanks guys!

Step 1: Convert to ProRes.  Log and Transfer, MPEG STREAMCLIP, Magic Bullet Grinder...whatever.  Make it ProRes.
Step 2: Duplicate the clip if you want to also have it normal speed, because Step 3 is not undoable.
Step 3: Take into Cinema Tools and CONFORM to the frame rate you want.  29.97, 23.98...whatever the rest of the project is.  This conform is permanent. It takes seconds, but is undoable.  Thus what you did in Step 2.
