Automator Workflow for Mail Printing?????

How can I print out all all mail (250 emails) in a single mailbox into a single file, which I can save as a PDF?
I looked even for an Automator workflow that would
Print; Preview: Save As
so that I would then have a serires of PDFs that I could then import all the individual PDF pages in to Acrobat to create a single document, but Automator does not have these options.
Any thougt would be very helpful. Thanks!!
  Mac OS X (10.4.2)

I don't believe you can do it the first way.
However there are at least three ways to do it the second way.
1) Use System Events GUI scripting exclusively to drive the user interface i.e., selecting menu items and pushing buttons;
2) Use some of 1) along with Mail's AppleScripting capabilities. GUI scripting would still be needed for Preview as it does not have AppleScript capabilities;
3) Install the cups-pdf solution called "Virtual Printer" (http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/20219) that allows one to create pdf files from anything that can be printed using the print dialog. This would also have to be driven using one or both of GUI scripting and Applescript.
If you do a lot of PDF printing then I would recommend 3) and generally 1) is less robust than 2). Myself or others on this forum should be able to help with whichever solution you prefer.

    Hi,
If you follow the steps and click on 'Assign Agents' it list the workflow template that is triggered e.g. WS03100020. If you open the builder (transaction SWDD) and view workflow WS03100020 you can see that there is no triggering event specified so you cannot activate the event linkage.
Also the object used in this workflow is BUS1001and not BUS3020. If you want to trigger this workflow then you should check what event should triggered it and add it to the workflow via SWDD => Basic Data => Triggering events.
What transaction should trigger this workflow? Switch on your event trace and recreate thje scenario. See what events are raised and see if one can be used to trigger the workflow. If no events exist then try to find user Exit or BAdi and trigger your event using function module SAP_WAPI_CREATE_EVENT or use SAP_WAPI_START_WORKFLOW to trigger event directly without events.
    Regard,
    Eddie

  • Automator Workflow for Quicktime 7.6.4

    Hello.
I need to hang my head in shame, for I am normally pretty good with computers. I started looking up automator, but this is the only task I have even needed to do often enough to resort to automator.
So I am being lazy and I would LOVE you forever if you could just tell me what I need to make a custom workflow for automator.
Here are some details in case you don't see them Quicktime is 7.6.4 Automator 2.0.4 OS 10.5.8
As you can guess, this laptop is pretty old. I pretty much only use it to project videos at events now.
What I need is for automator to always turn the loop function on when Quicktime opens any new video. (Or if I am PEBCAK on this, how the heck do I make that happen if not with automator....?)
Super Awesome Bonus Points, but not as crucial for my sanity...
One that opens the A/V controls ---> turn the playback speed down as low as it will go on every file.
Thanks, it would mean not having to time bathroom breaks at events in fear of the random video files stopping and it looking all ghetto and non-functioning (ie like it was a Windows computer)
I know VLC is an alternative but HD videos on that always have frame rate and crashing issues, even after messing with the settings. Plus the 1 window at time is an issue too...though it's more the combo of those 2 problems in tandem.
    Thanks!

    No. It won't install.
Very interesting. The docs on 7.6.4 do not mention OS X 10.6 (Snow Leopard)

  • Automator workflow for backup (BU3)?

    Hi there,
I have never used automator, but I would like to create a workflow that allows me to schedule the following actions:
    1.) turn off Norton Anti-Virus auto-protection
2.) run incremental backups through BU3 onto my idisk and external hard drive
    3.) turn on Norton Anti-Virus auto-protect
Is anything like that out there or can anyone help me set this up? Thanks.

  • Automator- Workflow for time worked based on project #

    Hello All,
Trying to use automator to automatically do this workflow:
I receive email that lists a project number as well as other info but proj. number is most important.
         I do the work etc..,
Then generate an email sending an invoice for my time worked and other details based on that project number to ONE emaiil address; thus my invoice for payment.
    Goal:
Thus keep track of which projects I have completed and sent an invoice for...
Can anyone get me started. I don't see how to get automator to pull that project number out of that email message to begin.
    Thanks,
    Al

    Hi Al,
No expert here, but see if you can modify this Applescript to extract it...

  • Suggested Workflow for Mail?

A few months ago I switched over from using Opera's mail client to Apple Mail.  I've been happy so far, but one thing bothers me: I have a buildup of messages in my inboxes.
With Opera, new messages would be shown in an "unread" inbox.  The program would distinguish whether you'd viewed a message or not, but messages would remain in the "Unread" box until they were manually marked as read or moved.  Messages marked as read would be removed from the "Unread" box but would exist in the inbox for that account, making it quick and easy to have messages archived and easily retreivable.
Apple Mail lacks an "unread" box.  While on OSX 10.6, I had created a folder called "Read and Stored" and manually moved messages to that folder to clear them from the main mail view.  It seems that the "discussions" feature of Mail in OSX 10.7 requires that all messages be in the same folder/view, however.  I've taken to using the colored flags for further mail sorting, but things feel a lot more cluttered than when I was using Opera.  Does Apple intend for people to just junk up their inbox and never clear out old messages?  How do you handle sorting your mail?  Suggestions and advice please!

You can create your own "unread" inbox by creating a new "smart mailbox" that includes all inboxes where the message has not been read.  This is just a smart search of your inboxes so the mail stays in the inbox but is listed in your new "smart mailbox" until read.
Mail > Mailbox > new smart mailbox > define criteria.
I have several of these for different purposes including mail from Apple support communities.  Makes it easy to review and delete as a group.

  • Snooze an email message? (Automator Workflow in Mail)

I want to snooze an email message in Mail.
Meaning make it disappear and come back at certain time later...
Anyone have thoughts on how to approach this in Automator?
I've been told to have Mail pass the message to iCal and have it resent that way, but I was hoping to just work within the Mail.app.

Here's a way to do almost exactly what you're asking (slightly different) by using Automator to pass the message to iCal:

  • Automator workflow for Quicktime "Save As... reference movie"

I need just to "Save As (a reference movie)" from within Quicktime... I have tried using the "Compress using most recent settings" but that still tries to make it "self-contained," whereas i need specifically to Save As a Reference Movie.
    Any thoughts?

If you save as a reference movie it just uses a pointer to the already existing content which you cannot move or molest, or it won't work. You want to compress it then you make a new movie, and self contained as a result.

  • Automator workflow question?

    I tried to create a workflow in automator but I had no luck so far. So I need some help to create an automator workflow for;
go to a specific web page and save the page as pdf to desktop and than close the safari.
I've tried as "record/watch what I do" in automator but when I click on the safari on dock the "watch me" script misses it and presses mail.app
    Help please. Thanks in advance.

Give this one a try - it uses a *Run AppleScript* action to script Safari's print dialog:
    1) *Get Specified URLs* (drag URL here - only the last one will be saved)

    3) *Run AppleScript*: <pre style="</div>

  • Automator Workflow Fails with Cryptic Error Message

I'm updating an Automator workflow for OS X Lion that I initally developed and used, without issue, in OS X Tiger. The workflow asks for a name, creates a folder for the name, takes a digital image with a Nikon D50 connected to the computer, and saves the image to the new folder. This aspect of the workflow works fine.
I then have a prompt asking if we should take another. If the user says "yes," the script should take another image and save it to the folder. This is where I run into an issue. When I attempt to add another "Take a Picture Action" into the workflow, I get the cryptic (at least to me) error message in the attached screenshot.
    Here's the text:
"Cannot update for observer <AMWorkflow 0x400458ac0> for the key path "parameters.name" from <TakePicture 0x403e3b0a0>, most likely because the value for the key "parameters" has changed without an appropriate KVO notification being sent. Check the KVO-compliance of the TakePicture class."
The language of this error would seem to indicate a bug. Any thoughts on a fix or the means to report to Apple?

The subject of this post is a bit misleading. The workflow wasn't failing while I was running it, but rather when I was editing it and trying to include another 'Take a Picture' action in the same workflow.
The workaround I found was to use a 'Loop' action on the 'Take a Picture' action. It's a bit more elegant and doesn't require multiple 'Take a Picture' actions in the same workflow.
Nonetheless, what does this error message mean?

  • Cannot manually select Automator workflows in iCal

I know That the Way, Apple intends that we create an Automator workflow as an iCal alarm is to create a new iCal alarm in Automator, and once you save it it automatically creates a new event in iCal. Unfortunately, that's not the way I want to work… I already have dozens of iCal alarms configured, and I'm trying to prep them for Mountain Lion: the currently open AppleScript's but all of my Apple scripts need to be converted to Automator workflows for Mountain Lion. So I was hoping to quickly duplicate previous iCal workflows, then reselect them from within existing events in iCal. Sadly, all of my iCal Automator workflows appear as greyed out in my File Open dialog when attempting to select a new file to run within my iCal alert.
I don't want to have to delete all of my iCal alarms and start over creating them anew. Perhaps I am missing something simple?

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4139323?start=0&tstart=0
according to the first link I can save the applecript as an application. It doesn't answer why my automator workflows are greyed out when I try to select them, but maybe I'll just try saving as applications... sounds simpler.
