Autoplay QuickTimes from Compressor

Is it possible to create an autoplay QuickTime using Compressor. I normally would have used Cleaner Pro, but it does not seem to like H264 at all.
Essentially I am attempting to recreate the set-up used on the Apple Trailer site, where you click on an image and instead of embedding the video in the HTML, i want it to launch QuickTime Player (externally) and autoplay from there.
i have worked throug all of the <PARAM NAME="autoplay" VALUE="true" > tags, but for some reason, it does not parse these parameters through to QT player.
Anything I am missing here?
Cheers
Al

Apple is now using JavaScript, because of how Internet Exploder is handling QuickTime.

Check out the JavaScript and HTML source of one of the HD trailer pages.
Download the source and exsample files from the following website, and I think you will get exactly what you need:

  • Is the quality better by compressing video to ipod from compressor??

    Hi,
I have some video (miniDV 720x480) that I would like to put on an ipod.
When I tried to go from Final Cut> Export> Using Compressor> and using -H.264 for iPod video and iPhone 640x480- it took a long time. After 8 hours I had to stop it.
When I go from Final Cut> Export> Using QuickTime Conversion to iPod it compressed it in a couple of minutes.
Is there a big quality difference between Quicktime to ipod or Compressor to ipod?
    Thanks for helping.

    There can be.
If you're working with a pristine source (with crisp text and other high-contrast edges), then you'll get the best quality from Compressor, though you'll have to tweak the settings to turn Frame Controls on.
That said, unlike going out to MPEG-2, there is no benefit to exporting directly from the timeline in FCP to Compressor if you're exporting for iPods/iPhone/tv. Instead render in FCP, export a reference movie, drop that into Compressor, then turn Frame Controls to On in the preset. However, for iPod/iPhone this will still take a long time because of frame controls. Plus multi-pass is true to it's name - as many as 7-8 passes.
But, like I said, this is relevant if you're working with a clean source.

  • Unable to compress to mp4 or quicktime with compressor 2

After I upgraded from compressor 1.2 to compressor 2.0.1 I found out that the mpeg2 quality was not as good as that of compressor 1.2, however the quality of mpeg4 using a compressor 1.2 preset was as good as that of compressor 1.2. Trying to improve mpeg2 quality I deleted all the compressor 1.2 presets as recommended by Apple. Now the mpeg2 quality is very good. However when I try mpeg4 or quicktime, compression always fails with the following message: "Failed: 3x crash service down".
The resulting files cannot be opened with quicktime (as expected) with the error (-2048)
Does anyone know what the problem could be? I have tried everything I could find in this forum but nothing has worked. Reinstalling compressor 1.2 will not work either.
    Thanks

I'd suggest that you look in your console and system logs to see if there are any error messages or warnings that might hint at what could be going wrong. You can view these logs by going to the Apple menu and selecting "About This Mac" and then "More Info..." This will bring up the System Profiler and then under the left-hand column ("Contents") go down to "Software" and select "Logs."
You will likely find a lot of messages in both of these logs, even some warnings that have nothing to do with your particular problem. Just scan through the information looking for anything that seems related to Compressor, FCP, Qmaster, QuickTime, or any warning about a missing or incompatible component that could be related to the above.

  • 16x9 sequence is getting squeezed to 4x3 when I export from Compressor

My usual Final Cut to Compressor workflow is producing an unusual result. I am starting with an anamorphic DV NTSC sequence in Final Cut, but when I export this from Compressor using the Uncompressed 10-bit codec in a Quicktime wrapper, the video is squeezed to 4x3.
Here is my process in depth.
These are the sequence settings shown in Final Cut.
720 pixels x 420 pixels. The pixels have an aspect ratio of 16:9 and so the sequence is displayed widescreen. (My one question about this section is what do the QuickTime Video Settings mean? This is not something that I have ever adjusted... can it affect how Compressor interprets the sequence?)
Then I export a reference Quicktime.
Then I bring this Quicktime reference movie into Compressor and apply the QuickTime Uncompressed 10-bit settings provided with Compressor. Now, I don't normally adjust the geometry at all with this workflow since I thought that this format automatically used the current frame geometry settings from the sequence. However, having no luck with this I attempted to fix the problem myself by adjusting the geometry to match my sequence settings in FCP.
Unfortunately, my attempted manual override of the compressor export failed. The quicktime that I got from this was squeezed to 4x3 just as before!
Using QuickTime Conversion directly from FCP I was able to get the appropriate 16x9 quicktime, but I really need to figure out how to do this in compressor since I have to process a lot of sequences and need to keep FCP available and Compress in batchs. So, any suggestions?

Your problem is one of the most common suffered by people new to editing or new to the anamorphic scene.
It starts with a misconception. DV anamorphic video is NOT 16x9. The camera that shoots anamorphic 16x9 is actually shooting squeezed 4x3 video. If you note the sequence settings in your first picture, you'll see that your actual frame size is 720x480 which is a 4x3 frame size (3x2 actually, but it's essentially the same thing). The anamorphic check box is merely to let FCP know that the footage was squeezed when shot so that it displays it properly to you.
Though FCP can most times recognize anamorphic footage upon capture, QT player does not. All it sees is the 720x480 frame, so that's why it looks squeezed.
To get it to look correctly in QT, you have to actually change the frame size in Compressor to a 16:9 frame size. For DV, that is 854x480. Go to your Geometry controls and choose Custom 16:9 from the drop down menu. Then type 854 in the horizontal box. Then save that as a preset for you.
When Compressor does it's thing, the finished movie will open up as a 854x480 clip in QT which will be the proper aspect ratio for your video.
On another note, I'm not sure why you're going from a DV/NTSC sequence to compressing in Uncompressed 10bit. Because the video was captured and edited in DV, it'll never be of higher quality than DV. You might as well keep it that way, unless there's something else about your workflow that I don't know/understand.
I hope this helps you understand how anamorphic works.

Every time I try to export my movie into a Windows Format from compressor it shrinks the movie to 27 seconds.WHY? HELP

Probably because you have the free version of Flip4MAc from Telestream that limits exported files to 30 seconds or so. There ae several paid versions  – depending on your requirements
    Good luck.

  • Video and Audio tags from compressor??

    Hey guys,
I have some thing Im trying to solve. I have an audio and video podcast that i run through compressor every week and would really like to add all the meta-data straight from compressor. Its a pain to add to itunes and then grab that file and finally upload to the FTP server. If compressor cant do it, is there a simple app that I can use to just edit the data with having to add it to a library at all. Thanks in advance.

Sorry not to be able to answer this for you immediately, I'll be watching for my own benefit. We will be facing a similar situation soon.
If you have CS4, you can explore the XMP file system.

  • I accidentally deleted QuickTime from my computer. Then I did a system restore and retrieved it. Now Itunes can't find QuickTime and will not open. Is there a fix for this without my Ipod?

I accidently deleted QuickTime from my computer. Then I did a system restore and retrieved the program. Now Itunes can't find QuickTime and will not open.Is there a eazy fix for this without using my Ipod? Ihave 6K songs in Itunes that I can't get to.
    Thank You
    T-BILL

Hmmm. There's a couple of things that might be going on with that one.
Let's try an uninstall and reinstall of QuickTime first.
If you're using XP, head into your Add or Remove Programs control panel. Select "QuickTime", click "Change" and then click "Remove".
If you're using & or Vista, head into your Uninstall a program control panel, select QuickTime, and then click "Uninstall".
You can get QuickTime back either via Apple Software Update (in your Start menu go "All Programs > Apple Software Update" ... QuickTime should appear in the "New Programs" section), or by downloading a QuickTimeInstaller.exe from the following location:

Does your iTunes launch properly now?

  • Why Can't I Export to Quicktime from Garageband?

Has anyone else experienced this or would know how to fix it...
I created a .mov file from Keynote and brought it into Garageband as a Video Track to sync the music to the Keynote presentation. Now I'm ready to Export to Quicktime from Garageband. When I choose the Export command from the 'Share' menu in Garageband, it runs through two dialog boxes - first "Creating Mixdown" and then "Converting..." - after the second dialog box disappears no Quicktime file is created.
I have tried several things to remedy this, but have had no luck - such as updating to Garageband 3.0.1, running Disk Utility, restarting the computer. I also made sure to check the Preferences in Garageband before exporting.
Can anyone tell me how I can get it to export?
Also, the final Garageband file size is approximately 180MB and the presentation runs approximately 8 minutes. The final file will need to be 'full quality', as it will be shown from a projector at a meeting.
      Mac OS X (10.3.9)   Keynote v3.0.0; Garageband v3.0.1; Dual 1GHz G4; 1.5GB SDRAM

    Which export did you use?
Try going into prefs->export, enable the export to disk option.
Than in the Share menu choose export to disk.
Then do a search on the name of your song (in the Finder) and see if it shows up.

  • How do I stop Quicktime from stopping recording when it believes the signal is lost?

I'm trying to digitize old VHS home videos through Quicktime (latest version). But when the tracking goes a bit awry, Quicktime stops recording telling me "RECORDING STOPPED, TRY RECORDING AGAIN."
This is not true. It's just an instance of a bad part of the tape. It took me 13 days just to record one 6 hour tape because I had to start a new recording every few moments. I had hundreds of files!
How do I stop Quicktime from ending a video recording when it believes the signal is lost? Is there a way of turning this 'feature' off? If not, does Apple have a software that will do what I'm asking? Final Cut Pro X or something else?
    Thank you!

Here is a screenshot of the error. As you can see, I got a full 4 seconds of video recorded before Quicktime X believed the signal was lost (just a bit of off tracking).

  • How do I stop Quicktime from...

How do I stop Quicktime from being the default player for MP3s on IE6? I've disabled everythging I can think of. but QT still launches in a new browser window when I select an MP3. I just need to get back to Windows Media Player.
    Thanks in advance

Open Quicktime Preferences and go to the Browser Plug-in section. Click on the MIME Settings button and change the mp3 item so that QT is not set to open that file type.

  • Has mpeg-1 been removed from Compressor 4.1?

Am I missing something, or has mpeg-1 encoding been removed from Compressor 4.1?

I believe you are right…and thanks for posting…hadn't noticed until you asked the question. Maybe it's there hiding in plain sight, but I couldn't find it. A search on MPEG in the new User Guide actually comes up with one reference to MPEG1 as a setting (p 111), but that may simply be a vestige of the previous editions.
What do you need MPEG1 for? Could MP4 work?

  • Importing from Compressor

This may seem stupid, but how do you import a FCP project from compressor into DVD Studio Pro?

When compressor is finished, you will get a movie file (mpeg2) and 1 or 2 soundtracks (aiff and/or dolby) on your desktop or whatever destination you specified.
Open DVD SP and drag the files onto the menu pane.

  • Chapters don't show in DVD burned from Compressor 4

I followed instructions for setting chapter markers in FCP X and they don't show up in DVD created from Compressor 4 output. The chapters do show up under the "video" menu in Compressor 4 output settings, but only project title shows in the menu on finished DVD.
Am I missing a step somewhere?
I also  wonder if I should invest in "Toast" software for more flexibility in output to DVD.
Any help on this topic would be appreciated

Possibly – if you need the capability for multiple tracks and/or a bit more choice in menus. But you don't need Toast for chapter navigation.

  • Exporting from compressor to FCPX

Is there a way to export from Compressor directly to FCPX? I am trying to figure out how to best use my nMP.  At the moment I am playing with the best way to import 4K  mpeg-4 video from my gopro camera.
    russ

Video is a new technology for me. I started my project building a 15 year video library of a apprenticeship process. So my focus is not in a less that 3hr video.
The nMP and TB changed the focus from a video library to a video data base.  As I was just using FCPX to edit videos   thinking of it as a library instead of a database, I really did not care about system design and work flow.  When started playing with multiple databases on a TB2 drive, the focus of the project changed to building a video database.
I have five years of raw natural horse videos, there is no movie to be made, but when I want a video of an action or event, I need to be able to search for it.  For the data base function I need optimized videos in my libraries so I can skim through the raw footage.
I am experimenting with 4K video seeing how I can import raw 4k video into my FCPX database as efficient as possible.  One experiment was to use compressor and render the video into 422 using cluster function of compressor. It looks like the camera transfer rate is too slow to matter. Compressor has not been stable enough for me to really test and understand it. That is probably my issue. Yesterday, I was testing monitor/tb drive combinations to see which combinations were more efficient.
Now I am trying to figure out the most efficient way to import my Video from my GoPro camera. If I shoot 8 hours of 4k video, importing from a flash reader with compressor cluster technology and the batch system  might be more efficient.
I am just sorting though my options.
