AutoStart on a Mac

I just got some new software called CDEverywhere that is supposed to make a CD that AutoRuns or AutoStarts on both Mac and PC. The software states that Mac users need to enable AutoStart for this to work but I cannot find it.
It is a CD that has an HTML file on it. What I want is for a MAC user to put in the CD and the HTML file opens automatically. Any ideas?

The only method I've been able to track down for OS X (autorun was originally a feature in OS 9) is through the CD & DVD preference in System Preferences. You can select an action to occur when a music or picture CD or video DVD is inserted.
Perhaps you should address this question at the appropriate Macromedia forum or to their tech support assuming that there is no help available in the application's Help menu or printed documentation.

    Hi Stedman.
Everything in there seems to be .exe files and the like -- except for one hqx file that has to do with music, which is the least of my concerns. Guess I'll just call Sony.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Auto Start A PDF Document

I have Acrobat 8. I'm relatively new at this so I don't know if it's even possible. I created a PDF document with an index on the first page with hyperlinks to the remaining pages as necessary. Is it possible to burn the document to a CD and have it auto start somehow to display the first page of the document? I somehow don't think so but can't be sure.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

There are several links if you search on "cd autostart" that explain the process. I do not have a recommendation for a specific version and am always concerned about playing with an EXE that is downloaded. However, reading about the process may be useful to you to at least know where you are headed. I am sure that some of the others here may have a good recommendation for the specific software. Several of my conference CDs have an autostart.inf that sets the process in motion and calls an autostart.exe file (38kB). This file has an autostart.ini that gives the configuration information for the EXE file.
Some of the sites also include information about enabling the CD autostart for a MAC also.

  • Microsoft Word - Appelworks!!??

    Hi everyone,
Im in desperate need of a free word processing program that enable me to open word processing documents on windows and Mac's. I use a mac myself, but everyone else I work with uses windows and Iv had numerous problems sending appleworks documents to them only to find they can't open them or it comes out in strange text.
Could someone let me know if there are any SAFE word processing programs that work seamlessly on both and that I can download?
    Thanks

    Hi Rich!
I mean no offense and you're indeed entitled to your opinion, but Trevor is right.
You may recall back in the Mac OS 8-9 days a virus called the AutoStart worm. Mac folks back then had the same attitude: "Macs don't need antivirus software because Macs don't get viruses." The AutoStart worm specifically targeted graphics environments, which are primarily Mac based. The virus destroyed graphics files and caused computers to hang periodically while it scanned the network looking for other machines to infect. It was very effective and a workaround was simple to implement (just turn off QuickTime autostart). But only anti-virus software could comprehensively eliminate the infecting files and prevent its spread.
No computer user should be complacent (Mac, Windows or UNIX-based). We should all be good network/Internet citizens and help prevent the spread of viruses (Mac-based and those Windows-based viruses found in many MS Office macros).
    Very sincerely, bill

  • Replacing Media Player with another player

I've had a couple issues with my RoboHelp project's media
files autostarting on some Macs. So, I tried replacing RoboHelps
default Windows Media Player code with Quicktime code. But, in
RoboHelp, when I leave the "HTML" disply and re-enter the "Design"
display, RoboHelp deletes my Quicktime code and replaces it with
its default Windows Media Code. Does anyone know how to over-ride
    this?
    -Greg

    Hello Greg -
    I don't use the RH find/replace function - I use stand-alone
software and do the search/replace on the generated files (the
files we publish). Look into your generated code for those
references to Windows Media, copy the string as your "find" and
write your desired string as the "replace" then do "replace all".
There are a number of these programs available and have been
mentioned many times in this forum. One popular tool is FAR from
www.helpware.net but a search will bring up others.
In our situation, I need to replace a couple generated files
(files that are created by RH every time the project is generated).
I took a gen'ed file then modified it and saved it to a separate
project folder. After gen'ing a project we copy the saved/modified
files into the generated project folder then publish.

  • Autorun at a CD on Apple Computers

    Hi,
does anybody know how I can install a autorun file on a CD so that the CD starts automatically if I put it in the apple Computer ? For example with a html page.
    Thank you,
    Frank

Not sure if you can do it or not. Not much of a problem on Windows.
    Anyway maybe this will help:
"The equivalent to AutoRun on Macs is called AutoStart. We are informed that this only works on OS9 and earlier; Mac OS10 via Toast only allows you to open a folder window and not an application.
MacImage for Windows says that it can create AutoStart CDs on a PC.
Other tools: Toast for Mac. CDEveryWhere.
We have not tested any of these products.
Keiser Photography have instructions for using Toast to make a CD that will AutoStart on a Mac as well as using ShellRun to AutoRun on Windows computers.
Filenames as seen by a Mac
By default, CDs created on a PC might have garbled filenames when viewed on an old Mac. Long filenames will be truncated to an "8.3" form, eg "index.html" may appear as "INDEX~1.HTM" on a Mac. However OS X 10.2.6+ recognises long file names.
However, a pre OS-X Mac user can install the shareware Joliet File System Extension, from http://www.tempel.org/joliet/, which will make long PC filenames readable. If your CD uses the Joliet format because it has long filenames, then suggest to your Mac users that they install this software to view the CD fully.
Therefore, if you have Mac users, it is best to ensure that your filenames are short, and provide instructions for viewing the CD manually, eg "View this CD by opening INDEX.HTM in your browser"."

  • Imac compatibilty w/Router HELP!!

Ok after much debate I am still trying to get an answer to my question. Basically the internet is hooked to an Imac computer via comcast cable. Im trying to connect wirelessly to my pc in the next room. I recently purchased a linksys WRT54GX w/SRX400. The problem I am having is that I cant get into the setup screen on the Mac to install. On a pc there is autostart, on teh mac there isnt and I cant find where to pull it up to run the cd and install the router.
Ok so that was the problem. I then realized that the box said on the side "for windows xp". Now I have sen people use this router, so it should work. Regardless I just bought Windows xp w/sp2 and am debating wether to install it.
    Questions:
-Can it work on the mac os x or will i need to install windows?
-If I do install windows, will it work since the router is windows compatible
Any Help would be greatly appreciated!
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.1)

    Welcome to the discussions!
As Duane pointed out, it is not the router that is incompatabil with your Mac, it is the quick setup software. Skip it and manually configure the router instead.
BTW, you do realize that you bought a router that you will not be able to realize all the benefits of since your Mac does not have a SRX/MIMO card in it? Unless you got it on super sale, you easily paid twice as much for that router as you would have for the standard 802.11G router.
Yes, you may get a slight increase in range and a slightly better speed in transferring files from one computer to another, but not enough to justify paying double. I would take it back and get the standard G router which will run you $40-$50.

  • Mac Projector file that autostarts

  • Making autostart DVD when copying Pinnacle video-ts files on the Mac

I have made the following files on a PC with Pinnacle. I want to burn the files using my iMac to make an autostart DVD. The copy I made autostarts on a PC but not the iMac. The Mac recognised the DVD as a valid DVD but wont show the video.
    Many thanks for your help.
    Anchor
    VIDEO_TS.BUP
    VIDEO_TS.IFO
    VIDEO_TS.VOB
    Volume
    VTS010.BUP
    VTS010.IFO
    VTS011.VOB

Unfortunately I was not quite acccurate in the description of what happens. The first DVD I made I didn't put the files in a folder. The DVD was not recognised at all. For my second go (after looking at a DVD that worked) I put the files in a folder called VIDEO_TS. This DVD autostarted DVD Player however when I attempt to Play using the controls there is a message "Supported disk not available ". Double clicking any file except the ISO files gives message "the file is not a movie file". Clicking an IFO file starts iTunes. If I put in a DVD which works all looks the same and behaves the same on clicking. The only differences I can see are that the graphic on the preview of the .ISO files says exec although the kind is iTunes.app On the DVD that works the ISO files have an iTunes graphic. Both are 12KB.
In addition my DVD has an extra folder (All Slides) of pictures which we also want to include on the DVD. The DVD that works has a folder AUDIO_TS which is empty. Should I try including that too? Also there are the 2 extra files anchor and volume. Should I delete these?
    Hope you can help. Thanks

  • Software Updater autostarts on Mac

    Hello,
Nokia Software Updater 3.0.400 running on Mac OS 10.6.8.
Every time I turn on my computer, Software Updater starts and sits its little icon up with the power and wireless icons. The application itself doesn't open, thank goodness.
There's no reference to this in System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items.
I'd really like this to stop!
    Cheers

Hmm... 3.0.400 did indeed load Belle onto my N8. No backup/restore required. My apps were missing but their settings were still there after downloading them again.
As for the OP I'm not sure which Library folder it goes into, but run this in the Terminal (you will need an administrator password for this)...
    sudo launchctl unload /Library/LaunchAgents/com.nokia.NokiaSoftwareUpdaterAgent.plist
If that doesn't return an error, look in /Library/LaunchAgents/ for the file named "com.nokia.NokiaSoftwareUpdaterAgent.plist". That file may safely be moved, but save it else where.
If it does return an error, try...
    launchctl unload ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.nokia.NokiaSoftwareUpdaterAgent.plist
Then look in [your user folder]/Library/LaunchAgents/ for the file named "com.nokia.NokiaSoftwareUpdaterAgent.plist" and move it else where.

  • Autostart of Oracle 10.2 on MAC (XServe with Snow Leopard (10.6.3 Server))

Followed the instruction given in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b15658/strt_stp.htm#CFAHCEFC (Section 2.2.1)
Get the following error listed in the error console:
23/05/2010 02:28:55 com.apple.SystemStarter[93] bash: /Volumes/BD1/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/dbstart: No such file or directory
Despite the fact that the script can be run successfully from the command line.
    user:~ systemone$ ls -tl /Volumes/BD1/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/dbstart
    -rwxr-xr-x@ 1 oracle dba 14111 22 Apr 15:54 /Volumes/BD1/oracle/product/10.2.0/db_1/bin/dbstart
The problem remains that Oracle recommend oracle software and data be located on separate disks, but the Apple dbstart (autostart) will not work if any of the oracle files are not on the system disk.

I have also got the same problem, and currently have a support request on Metalink for this issue. I am waiting for a reply from Oracle.

  • On Mac Startup Systempreferences pop's always up. It's not in Autostart.

On every new startup from my Macbook Pro always re-opens systempreferences. The Autostart is clean.

Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.

  • 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011.takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get

    Hello All,
I have a 15" i7 Macbook Pro from early 2011. The past few weeks, it has been getting increasingly difficult to get on my computer. It takes the mac laptop two or three tries to boot successfully. It would turn on, show gray screen, shut down, turn on again, show gray screen, shutdown, and then turn on, show gray screen, before it can finally get to the dark gray log-in screen. Even when I finally get logged in to start working, thinking it would be okay now, it shuts down randomly.
I've ruled out the possibility of a software problem because I've just done a clean re-install of Mac OS X Mavericks on my computer just yesterday.
I did upgrade the RAM recently, about a month and a half ago, from 4GB to 16GB, I went to the apple store four days after that upgrade to have them do a hardware test, and clean the inside of my laptop, which helped with previous heat issues. When they did the hardware test, the hardware was all registered as fine from their system.
I've tried resetting the SMC, PRAM, and doing the internet recovery hardware test, but to no avail. I thought I could at least find out what parts needed to be replaced from the hardware test but it seems that when the hardware test is almost finished, the computer just shuts down, So I am unable to see the results.
My computer is also having battery issues, under battery condition, it says "replace now," parts have been ordered, waiting for arrival. But if the battery health is low, it should still boot up fine, it would just hold a significantly less charge.
Could this be a hard drive issue?
Has anyone had similar symptoms and how was it resolved?
Does anyone know what I can do to alleviate this issue?
I haven't had time to take it to Apple because I'm currently taking a 21 credit semester academically. I'm an art and design student so my computer is basically the bane of my existence. Help! Any constructive advice is welcomed!
Thank you so much for your input!
    -Christina C.

  • Mac Mini Server VPN Issues - Driving me insane

    Mac Mini Late 2012
    Late 2012
    Software  OS X 10.8.2 (12C2034)
    Server Version 2.2(166)
Previous Issues experiencing: Before i rang apple support and spoke with enterprise support i had no luck at all for weeks getting the VPN connected.
After calling support it seemed to have something to do with my useraccount - Guided through the process of creating new dummy account and trying to connect then. Which sssucceeded..!!!
However. Back on my main account and deleting other user accounts im facing great difficulty setting up a VPN for the purpose of a VPN.
The issue now is: Once i get connected to my mac successfully from my iPhone using the VPN server all is good to go.
However. WHen i restart my computer (For testing purposes this was done) When the MacOS boots up again I have to relog into the Server app. Resign into the program, THen try and reconnect my VPN (WHich will be impossible to do if im out of the country). But it doesnt end there. I keep having to reisue a new Shared Password. FOr testing i Used 1234abcd. Got a good connection - Proceeded with restart and then had to change 12345abcd.
So i have tested this well over 50 times. Trying to find a solution.
In summary: Everytime i use the MAC Mini Server, I have to.
    1 Auto login.
2 Repopen the Server.app even though i have enabled it to autostart.
    3. Log into the server app (Not another networks Server)
    4 Change my shared password
5 Try and reconnect and pray it works.
Whats the quick fix for this. Its driving me insain and honestly making this a 1000$ peice of junk. Its hopeless regarding a server. I want it to be completely operational when i leave the country. My server is designed to Shut on and off between down times (Night Times) when i wake up i jsut want to be able to reconnect via a VPN and no issues, be on my way with life. Not having to wory about remote logging into the PC to then reset up the server.
    Any help please!

I sometimes get this same message window or a VPN Not Authorized window after rebooting my server. I have the Mac Mini late-2012 base model running OS X Server. When I do, I just try reconnecting and after no more than 3 attempts a connection is made either by my rMBP or my iPhone5.
I leave my server running 24/7 and I rarely get either of the two messages mentioned above.
You shouldn't need to open the Server.app unless you need to manage services. The Server services you configured should start everytime you restart. I have the Server.app icon on my Dock, but I do not launch it automatically. I manually click to launch it when I need to manage the Server, Accounts or Services.
