Autotune Issues With Garageband

Hi guys, having some trouble with autotune.
About a year ago I installed a version of autotune that didn't work with Garageband so I gave up on it. I'm now trying to use Autotune EFX AU but I'm having issues. The old version of autotune won't leave my audio effects list in Garageband. I've removed the old component for an older version of autotune, yet it still won't let me use the newer version because the old version is still showing up in Garageband. What am I doing wrong?

Missing items in the graphical user interface can be caused by corrupted preferences files or wrong permissions -
try the "oddball problems" fix described in the FAQ, if you have not done so already:

Try first to remove the GarageBand user preferences from the User library and then to repair the permissions on your system volume. If all fails, reinstall GarageBand.

The User Library is hidden by default in Mountain Lion. You can reveal it from the Finder's "Go" menu:
Finder > Go, then hold down the options ⌥ key, until the Library appears in the drop-down menu, select it and open the Library folder. Then go to the "Preferences" sub folder and remove
your Home Folder/Library/Preferences/com.apple.garageband.plist.

Serious issues with icontrol and garageband 09

i have to admit i'm pretty peeved right now. after reading the comments on this thread:

i decided to buy an icontrol off ebay and look forward to full functionality with garageband 09.
now that i have the unit i'm not sure what the posters on the previous thread were smoking as the unit has major problems under G09 which none of them mentioned. here's a list to get started and that's after only playing around for an hour or so:
1. no control over EQ with rotaries!!
2. pan adjustment on certain tracks makes the playhead jump around the screen!
3. holding SELECT and pressing Effect 1, 2 EQ does nothing (its supposed to enable/disable effects)
4. using rewind on the scrub wheel will automatically start playing the track (makes positioning impossible)
5. sometimes the wrong track is selected and does not correspond to the LEDS on the unit.
so that's just for starters. if there's something i'm doing wrong here please jump in as i'm about to repackage the thing and send back.

Hi. I took my iControl to work and fiddled at lunch time....
+*1.no control over EQ with rotaries!!*+
The standard Visual EQ works fine. The 4 regions are controlled by the 8 rotaries. R1 controls left to right and R2 controls up and down for region 1. Region 2 is controlled by rotaries 3 and 4 in the same manner, as is the reminder os the regions and rotaries.
Further to this, if I insert the 31 band AUGraphicEQ, all of the sliders can be controlled by my iControl. To cycle through all of the sliders you have to use the up/down arrows (Track/Parameter) arrows on the iControl.
However, if you switch to the 10 band version, nothing works. This seems to then affect the 31 band view when you switch back to it. I have not figured out how to make the 10 band view the default view. If this is possible it may make a difference.

I have never had this happen to me. The only time the pan knobs do not work are with some of the synth preset sounds that appear to have panning automation attached to them.

This is actually an incorrect use of this feature. Once you have selected a track, you push the Track info button on the iControl. Once pressed you will see a range of the selection buttons light up which will correspond to the effects you have loaded. Its then that you push the sel button to enable or disable the effects. The full list is printed in the manual. There is one bug however, and that is that sel 5 does not toggle the EQ as stated. You can fill all of the effect slots and you will have control of enable and disable via the sel buttons EXCEPT for the preloaded VisualEQ.
What does NOT work is holding the Option button while pressing the EQ button which is supposed to enable or disable the EQ, as well as Effect 1 & 2. This 'Option' button seems to change its behaviour at times though...... another bug.

My jog wheel does not work like this. If I spin the wheel while its in play then it continues to play from the new position. If I stop play then rewind, I then need to hit play to listen from the new position.

This has never happened to me. Mind you, I hardly ever use more than 8 tracks. How many tracks do you have going when this happens?
There are definitely bugs with the iControl, but I cannot replicate some of what you encountered. All of the main functions work fine for me..... I am still glad I got the unit as it has helped a lot with the right arm dominant use pain I was getting. I am annoyed that its not FULLY functional, but when I do encounter the odd AU that does not align the screen sliders with the iControl's rotaries, then its no biggy to grab the mouse.
As an aside, I could not find any up to date info on how the unit fits with the latest versions of GB. I might have a crack at this and post it here or get someone to host it for me. Let us know what other issue's you have.

Autotune Troubles with Microphone

Hello guys!
I recent bought the M-AUDIO USB Producer microphone from AVID an I got some troubles with Garageband 11 and Logic Pro X.
The microphone itself works like a charm, it's a wonderful microphone, but every single time I try to record a song with autotune efx he (the autotune) increases the volume and the sound gets distorced. If i turn off the autotune efx the recording looks like a studio, but when i turn it on, he ''destroys'' the voice. What's going on?? HELP ME!!!!

GarageBand 1.x If you are upgrading it using iTunes on a Mac or PC, you can restore the original collection of instruments and sounds. There is no need to buy this collection. Press "You've already purchased?" When displayed on iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.
this puts on the AppStore but I have tried to restore as I wrote above, and does not work. There is nothing to restore.

I've been having the same problem. However, I believe my problem is due to the 3G issues I've been having. I don't have internet access even when the 3G symbol appears, so probably my iphone keeps trying to connect to the network and has its battery drained! Have you been having the same issue?

Yes... but I have come across some setups that came with a native SL (and even one Lion!) installation.. that somehow had a corrupted or older Prokit installed for some unknown reason... and given it's a quick fix to try.. I thought I'd mention it..
I frankly don't think it is entirely a Prokit issue itself, but it wouldn't do any harm to try and install v7 just in case it is part of the problem...
+1 on the UAD stuff....
Also, at the time it crashed... according to the logs...the OP was running Ableton Live at the same time, presumably rewired with Logic... so add all that together with UAD plugins... and that's quite a load on the system...
Finally in thread 32 there is a weird exception msg relating to the Trash2 plugin.. that I haven't seen before...

That might be nothing... but as i said, I haven't seen that one before and given what else is going on.. it might be involved too... or nothing to do with that at all!

Can I Merge Tracks with Garageband?

Mostly I like to use Reason when it comes to recording and mixing tracks but since buying the new Aluminum Macbook, which incorporates a music software package of its own, I thought I'd try a different approach. My problem, however, is that I cannot find a way of merging two tracks. Say for example I've placed a small drum loop in track one. I select it from the audition area and place it in the track area. Then, in order to configure the drum track further, and in order that I can mess around with it more, I place the same drum loop in track two: only this time, I edit it and shorten it down so that only a few beats are pronounced. At this point I would usually merge the tracks, thus making both track two and track one into a single track. But I do not know how to do this in Garageband. Can anyone tell me whether this is at all possible?

With reason I would record one track and one overdub. Then I would merge both tracks. When I use Garageband, the option to join track one with track two does not exist. I take it you are able to have a drum loop in track one, a drum loop in track two, and are able to combine both in a single instant. I merely highlight the regions as I would highlight text in a document. Is there a more serious issue with my copy of Garageband. It did come complimentary with my Macbook, as it does with every other Macbook.

Issues with ITunes on Lion Mac OS X 10.7

I succesfully upgraded to Lion and everything seemed to be fine until I started trying each of the programs. I had previously upgraded to Ilife '11 (unless I did something wrong) but I can't get IPhoto to open, though my photos can be seen if I set up the screensaver to Iphoto. Garageband and Imovie work properly.
My second issue is that when connecting my Iphone, it doesn't show on the Itunes Devices section. I updated Itunes already but the problem is istill there.
Anyone can help?

This sounds like a compatibility issue with the software you are using. I recommend you contact the software vendor for a Lion-compatible update.

Line 6 with Garageband

Has anyone used Line 6 guitar products with Garageband, I would be interested in how you might have used these products, specifically the PODxt Live to work when recording guitar parts. Thanks.

I use a Line 6 Podxt (with 3 model packs)
Guitar(one is a Variax 500) (except for Variax )monster cable to input, L&R outsof Podxt (Monster Cables again) to Tascam US-122 USB interface
RCA outs to M-Audio DX4 monitors (powered) USB from Tascam to USB 2.0 input on my eMac 1.25ghz 1GB ram
I guess you can skip the interface but at first the Podxt's were haviing white noise issues with the USB connection so I had the Tascam so kept the set up that way. Sounds great!
I also use a Atomic Reactor 18 watt tube slave amp alternate Podxt with a Vox Tonelab for recording
with Shure SM 57 microphone.
I also add some effects from GB. The Variax Guitar adds some interesting twists as well I use
Variax Workbench as well.

Keyboard issue in GarageBand

Hi there.
I'm having an issue with the keyboard in GarageBand on my iPad Air (7.1.2).
The issue is that the keyboard doesn't respond to finger inputs at the bottom of the screen near the edge.
I have to press about half a centimeter up on the screen before there is any response.
The weird thing is though if I press and hold a key and drag it down towards the edge, it responds all the way to the edge.

I don't remember having this issue on my iPad 3 (The New iPad).
Does anyone else have this issue as well, or is it only me?

Thanks for trying to help.
Unfortunately none of the suggestions in the link worked.
But let me just clarify this; The screen is not unresponsive in that area.
As you can see in my video, if I hold down a key above the area and drag my finger down, the tone continues just fine.
And I have no responsive issues in any other apps.
It only happens in the keyboard and sampler in GarageBand.
I have actually found another bug with that area today.
If I tap and hold a finger on a key in the bottom area of the screen, nothing happens, but.. As soon as I let go, the tone plays.
So I'm pretty sure there might be a bug or something with GarageBand and the iPad Air.

Audio error with garageband and external usb audio interface

I am using Garageband 2.0.3. under ios 8.0.2 on my iPad 3 and via camera adapter a USB audio interface Focusrite Scarlett 2i4 or a Presonus iTwo.
When I start Garageband, it works well, the audio interfaces are recognized and I can record a track.
As soon as I switch from instrumtent to track view, the audio path is completely disturbed and all I can hear is some noise from the speaker.
Then I have to unplug the usb cable and plug it in again. Then audio works until I switch back to the instrument menu.
When I use the headphone output only there is no problem with Garageband and everything works fine.
Other applications audio applications don't show any error with each of the two audio interfaces.
Any feedback is very much appreciated, thanks.

I have this exact issue. However, I tried the Loopy app after after GB crashed and received an error message saying that core audio is not available. Rebooting resolves but the problem repeats. Any suggestions as to fixes? Btw; I have no such problem with Ipad 2 and ios 7.

Recording Problems with GarageBand

My micophone makes bad noise only in GarageBand while recording. The record sounds bad, too. It crackles very loudly. That's a new situation for me. Until now everything works nice. There are no problems with other programms. I use a USB Audio Interface Line6 TonePort UX1 with an AKG C1000S microphone. Can you help me please. Thanks a lot. Sorry for my bad english.

I'm having a weird audio sync issue as well with GB '08 that I never had with previous versions.
Basically, audio tracks gradually drift forward in time as the song progresses. They drift almost a full bar ahead of where they should be after about a minute into the song.
When I watch the wave form in the editor as I'm recording everything looks correct, but after stopping and playing back a process runs and then the sync is completetly screwed up.
I've tested every hardware variable I can think of -- external FW drive vs. internal drive, external hardware (Digi 002r) vs. built-in audio. I even tried 16 bit vs. 24 bit recording and I continue to have the same problem everytime.
Again, I had no issues with the exact same hardware and previous versions of GB, which leads me to believe that the problem is software related. I'm wondering if all of these new features come at the expense of memory and/or resource issues.
Anyone else experience this or know what the fix is?

Using MBox 2 With GarageBand on MacBook Pro Lion 10.7.3

Hi. This is my first Apple Support post. It was recommended that I post to this forum. I've been using my good old MBox 2 with GarageBand on my old MacBook without incident. Someone stole my laptop so I had to buy a new MacBook Pro the other day. On that system, GarageBand at first didn't recognize the MBox at all. A trip to the Genius Bar led to downloading a core audio driver. This enabled GarageBand to recognize the MBox 2 as an interface, and it records without much incident when the audio input/output settings remain on the DigiDesign MBox. HOWEVER, when I change the audio setting to the build-in output, all **** breaks loose. The selected signal bar starts registering a regular, loud, red-lining metalic beeping sound, and at this point the issue remains whether or not I change the audio setting back. They've tried several audio drivers at the Apple Store and nothing is working. Avid requires you to buy support codes, which is ridiculous, so any help on this forum would be extremely appreciated. I have a m-audio fast track pro that I'm having a similar problem when using it with my new Macbook Air. I found changing it to 16 bit will work.
I have a Apogee iMic that works fine so my guess is we will have to wait for Avid/M-Audio to update drivers.

Using an Analogue mixing desk with garageband?

As you can tell i'm really not a techie!
I'm looking to use a mixing desk with garageband, it's analogue and i have the new macbook pro retina, but I don't know how i could connect it to my mac. I need it for recording demos, but firstly will it be compatible? I dont wanna have to spend £90 on a pricey iRig when i already have a perfectly good Roland vs1680 sat here. Also, would I be able to use it to convert my guitar sound and output MIDI synthesised sounds from my mac to my Line 6 Amplifier?

unfortunately I do not have a second mac (g5 or otherwise as I sold it when I bought new one lol) to try this method. I did notice m-audio had updated there drivers for osx 10.4 but unfortunately these drivers only work for g5/g4/g3 mac and not for the intel mac keyboards so at the moment I do not have a workaround for this problem. I have emailed m-audio and asked for a timeframe for drivers but have not received a response yet so at the moment I am unaware of any usb midi keyboard that works natively for a intel mac which is rather tragic lol as garageband is basically unuseable without a method of inputting midi but hopefully someone will prove me wrong and suggest a solution. On another issue my usb keyboard and mouse had the freezing problem that seems quite common but after a lengthy phonecall to apple I asked for a replacement wireless bluetooth keyboard and mouse which I have received and can report works absolutely perfectly so there may have been a bad batch of usb keyboard/mouse combinations made. Otherwise everything is working perfectly and I am delighted with the new imac

M-audio M-track with GarageBand 11

Just bought an M-audio M-track.
I'm having some issues getting it to work with GarageBand.
When I create a track and choose the m-track input the microphone icon on the right col under the track settings is fixed and does not allow any adjustment. Not what I was expecting.
Any good tutorials online for this?
