AV Cable Connection Troubles

I just received the ibook AV Cable (plugs into headphone port at one end and has red, yellow and white connectors at the other) for Christmas and was very excited to start using it but I am having troubles connecting it. I connected it to my vcr (my tv doesn't have the red, yellow and white ports needed), set the vcr to "line in" and then connected it to my ibooks headphone port... but... all I got was the audio. I feel as though I should be telling my ibook to change displays? but I tried going into the display setting under system preferences and I got nothing. The package of the cable is totally void of any instructions, so if anyone has any suggestions I will be forever greatful!

Good Evening:
After reading your post about your AV worries i thought i would give you a little info on how the Video Out works with your ibook G4. The ibook G4 comes with a built-in Mini-VGA port. The device that is needed to connect to this port is as follows:-
Apple Video Adapter
Use a video adapter cable to connect the mini-VGA video output port on your iBook, eMac, or iMac G5 to any S-video or Composite enabled device.
The Apple Video Adapter was specially designed to allow users to connect to S-video or composite video devices. The video adapter cable plugs into the video output port (mini-VGA) built into the back of the computers listed in the compatibility section below. The video output port supports VGA, S-Video, and Composite video out. Use the Apple Video Adapter for S-Video or Composite video output only (connect to your TV, VCR, or overhead projector's S-Video or RCA (composite) cable). Use a separate Apple VGA Adapter for VGA video out.
Compatible With:
iBook without an external reset button, eMac, iMac G5, or 17-inch iMac (1GHz) with mini-VGA port.
Part Number:- M9109G/A

  • Cable connectivity trouble with N80

I can understand several of you have had problems connecting your N80 with a PC. I have now tried all the different solutions proposed in here, and still nothing helps. (It would be nice if Nokia officially could provide som help, since so many experience this!)
Anyways, the problem is that the computer doesn't locate the drivers for the N80. Windows' "new hardware found" pops up all right, but then it keeps searching for the drivers and nothing helps!
I've tried to remove all the USB devices installed in the Device Manager and I've tried to reinstall the newest PC Suite. It even works fine with my desktop computer, just not with the laptop - what to do??

    Uninstall PC suite
    Run the PC Suite cleaner
    http://europe.nokia.com/A4144912
Then reinstall PC suite again Don't connect the phone until asked too. Then see if it works.
Might be worth disconnecting any USB hubs, devices etc... and before you connect the phone.

There are only two types of HDMI cables (standard and high speed - listen to all 1.2, 1.3 etc etc nonsense they will try to tell in the store) both types will work with the Apple TV.
The cable may be faulty though, have you got another to try, what exactly is happening.

  • Net connection trouble: "No Ethernet cable connected or the device is not responding"

    Hello
I have been plagued by a dropping Net connection for a couple of months, and as it has been getting worse lately I have tried to sort out the problem.
I have simplyfied my connection between the computers and the VSDL fiber modem by bypassing my AirPort Express and Ethernet hub and connecting the three computers directly to the built in ports on the modem.
Since I did that a new error message has started appearing on my Mac Mini, saying that I have no Ethernet cable connected to the modem, or the device is not responding. At the moment I have two of the machines connected, and the Mac Book Air seems to work without problems. There are lights on the Ethernet ports on the modem, and they are lighting up for the iBook even when the Mac Mini connection drops. When the Mac Mini connection drops the lights go off on its Ethernet port on the modem.
This seems to point to some sort of trouble with the Mac Mini. Is there a way to monitor what's going on? Can I use Terminal, for instace? It can't be the settings, and it cant' be the cable, so it must be related to the hardware I suppose. I am using DHCP to connect to the modem.
The connection drops arbitrarily, sometimes for long periods of time, and then comes back up again by itself.
Any ideas for trouble shooting etc?
    Best

Thanks again. Unfortunately, the problems are back again. Had a stable connection and connected the AirPort again. Everything was working fine. Then all of a sudden the connection dropped again today.h
Connected a LAN cable directly to my MacBook Air and got the connection to work immediately.
Took that cable and connected to my MacMini, again, connection came back immediately.
The AirPort (in Brigde Mode) is also connected, but gives me a blinking orange light, and the same "no cable or (modem) is not responding" message again.
I guess this must rule out hardware problems in the computers.
Ligth for the LAN cable port on the modem connected to AirPort is dead. Moved the cable to another port, light still dead.
Shut down AirPort Express, still same orange blinking light when I switched it on.
I now suspect there is something going on with the AirPort Express. Just bought it, and I had the same problem with it's predecessor, but...
Is there any way to trouble shoot the AirPort Express?
I can connect to it Wirelessly, But AirPort Utility says it has been removed from the Network. In the Network Preferences it says it has a self-assigned IP. For Network Settings I get green lights for everything except Network Settings, which gives me a yellow light. It also says the Internet connetcion is working correctly.
Indeed, when I made the direct Ethernet connection inactive I still get a working connection over WiFi, in spite of the blinking orange light on the AirPort and a yellow light for Network settings in Prefereces....
In the console things look normal:

  • My iPhone 4s is stuck on a black screen that shows a USB cable connecting to iTunes. The phone will not turn on and the iTunes logo as I described only shows up when I plug the phone into the charger or my computer. I have tried the reset in restore mode

My iPhone 4s is stuck on a black screen that shows a USB cable connecting to iTunes. The phone will not turn on and the iTunes logo as I described only shows up when I plug the phone into the charger or my computer. I have tried the reset in restore mode as well as the DFU? mode and it still will not work. I have the latest version of iTunes on my Mac. My error code was 2002. I also tried it on my laptop (windows 8.1) and none of the above worked. My error code on my laptop was 02. The phone is through Verizon and it has absolutely no damage. It was working fine up until this and I have been trying to fix it for 2 days. Please help! I am unsure of what version the phone was currently running on before this because I have another iphone that's my primary phone and have not used this one in about a month. I do not believe it was updated to IOS 7.

Your iPhone is in recoverty mode at the moment so to possibly get it back up and running you would need to do a restore as you have been trying. Follow the steps in the article below for the specific error messages you have been receiving. If after following all steps the issue remains book an appointment at a local Apple Retail Store to have the iPhone evaluated.

  • I am using IMovie 11 with a new iMac.  Unable to import video from a Panasonic PV-GS400 mini-DV camcorder using a Firewire IEEE 1394 400 cable connected to a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter which is then connected to a Thunderbolt to Firewire 800 adapter.

How can I get iMovie to recognize my Panasonic PV-GS400 as a device so I can import video to my iMac?  I have a FireWire IEEE 1394 400 cable connected to the camcorder.  Since my new iMac has only Thunderbolt ports, I purchased a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter to connect to the cable.  I also purchased a FireWire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter to connect to the computer.  My camcarder is still not recognized.

I would suggest that you try a 9 pin to 4 pin Firewire Cable along with the Firewire to Thunderbolt adapter.
Those Firewire 400 to 800 adapters do not seem to work well with iMovie.
The 9 pin to 4 pin cables are available at reasonable prices here, for example.

  • Do I need a cable connecting my Time Capsule to Airport Express if I want to use the AE to extend my wifi network range?

I'm a bit confused by conflicting advice given by my local Apple shop and my internet provider.
My cable modem is plugged into a Time Capsule which I use to access the net wirelessly almost all over the house.  The one spot the wireless doesn't quite reach is (of course) where I now need my office and iMac to be.
I thought I could just plug in an Airport Express somewhere in the middle  to extend the network's range but the guy at my local Apple shop said the Airport Express would need to be connected not just to power but to the Time Capsule, via a cable.  That's fiddly and would involve cables running under the floor or along walls and ceilings, not something I can or really want to do.  It's not really practical to try and move the cable connection point either.
My internet provider suggested a netgear wireless extender and said that would only need to be plugged into power.  The reviews of the netgear product I found comparing it to Airport Express suggest that the Express doesn't need to be connected to anything other than power either to extend a network range (which was what I originally thought).
So I'm wondering which advice is correct? I've also read that the netgear product isn't all that easy to set up so I'd rather stick with.   Apple if it will do what I want.
Thanks for any help out there

I thought I could just plug in an Airport Express somewhere in the middle  to extend the network's range but the guy at my local Apple shop said the Airport Express would need to be connected not just to power but to the Time Capsule, via a cable.
I'm sure that the guy at the Apple shop means well, but he is not correct.
While it would be preferable to connect the Time Capsule and AirPort Express using a wired Ethernet connection, the Express can connect wirelessly and extend the wireless signal the same way....IF...it is located where it can receive a good wireless signal.

  • Can I connect a 5th gen extreme as a bridge/repeater to a non-apple router without an ethernet cable connection?  How?

I currently have a motorola surfboard cable modem/router (dual N) that works for all our wireless devices (PCs and MACBOOK) except that our ipad 2 which drops video streaming in the livingroom (works great in the office and bedroom).  I'm hoping to purchase a new 5th gen airport extreme and set it up in the living room for the ipad 2 as a repeater/bridge (I think that is the same function) but don't want to have a ethernet cable connecting the motorola to the airport extreme.  Is it possible?  How?  Since the ipad 2 works in other rooms, I don't think it is the ipad 2.

Sorry, but Apple products would not be compatible with your Motorola modem/router using wireless only.
If you need to do this using wireless only, you might want to check with your Internet service provider to see if they have a Motorola product that would be compatible for the purpose that you need.
If you are able to permanently connect the AirPort Extreme to the Motorola modem/router using a wired Ethernet connection, the AirPort Extreme could be configured to provide more wireless coverage that way.

  • HT1386 My iOS device (Ipad mini) only appears in iTunes while cable-connected, but does not appear after diconnect the cable. How can I Wifi sync ?

Hi, My iOS device (Ipad mini) only appears in iTunes while cable-connected, but does not appear after diconnect the cable. How can I Wifi sync ?
    Documents say
Whenever the computer and the iOS device are on the same network, the iOS device will appear in iTunes, and you can sync it....
But I can't see my iPad Mini in iTunes.
And my  Ipad  (Settings, General, iTunes Wifi Sinc)  shows  a message :" Sync will resume when xxx(my PC with iTunes) is available "...
Both are in the same network,
Ipad mini is is plugged in to power
. iTunes is open on the computer
    what can i Do ???

Hi Skydiver119,  and tks for four interest.
I have done exactly as you say, but it does not work for me.
You indicated  " Navigate to the info tab and scroll down. There'll be a check box for 'sync over wifi' or something to that effect. Check that box and sync to affirm your choice."
I navigated to Summary tab (not Info Tab) and checked "Sync with this ipad over Wi-Fi"
    I disconnect the wire,
and my iPad disappears from my iTunes screen.
in my iPad ->Settings -> General -> iTunes Wi-Fi Sync -> says " Sync will resume when (my PC) is available.
So, I can not sync via wi-fi
I appreciate if you can help me.

  • "No Cable Connected!" Error

"No Cable Connected!" message when trying to connect new Benq GL2750 LED to my new Mac Pro with Mini Display to HDMI adaptor. Anyone know how to solve the problem??

    Mini DisplayPort cables are diabolical.
You must push them into the socket until essentially ALL ot the metal part disappears.

  • HT201263 My phone is stuck on insert usb cable connect to itunes screen. this happened during my iOS 7 update.

I was updating my iPhone 4S to the iOS 7 system. During update my phone froze. It's stuck on insert USB cable connect to itunes screen. I've already tried turning my phone off holding Home key while inserting my cord into phone and nothing worked. I've tried DFU mode and that wont work either. What the heck do I do now? So annoyed with this.

I've also restarted my computer and still nothing.

  • Network bridging two cable connections. Worth it?

I tend to be a bit (okay excessively) power hungry. My apartment complex provides a free shared wireless cable connection. I found it to be not reliable with uptime and was forced to get a dedicated cable line for myself.
Then I had this thought: when there are times when this wireless and free connection is up and running, would it be worth it to bridge the two connections on my desktop? One would be wired, the other wireless. I haven't yet purchased the wireless card since I'd like some input on this first. Both are cable connections at around 6 mbps (Comcast). I'm fairly savvy with networks however not so much on this concept of bridging in home computing. I use the Internet for large downloads, FTP, SSH, and web design, and I'm just power hungry , so I'm curious what the bandwidth and speed increases would be on this.
My desktop is very powerful and new, if that were to at all be a concern. Any thoughts, experiences, or input on this?

It sounds like you want to combine both physical nics into 1 virtual, this is called bonding.
Download the kernel sources and check Documentation/networking/bonding.txt .
I've done a bit of searching and it seems that downloading large files , ftp and such don't benefit from this as they only can make one connection.
Everyhting that uses multiple connections like p2p should benefit from it.
If you're going to use this, you should consider installing a downloadmanager like prozilla or aria / aria2.
Hmm, me thinks I'll play around with it, thanks!

  • Can't figure this out- cable connection vs wifi connection

Can't figure this out: when my 13" MBP is connected wirelessly to my Airport base station, my iPad can see it. When I connect the MBP to the base station via ethernet cable (for faster connection), the iPad can no longer see it.
Note: my airport is not connected to the internet. I'm simply wanting to setup a closed network for the iPad to connect to the MBP. There's nothing else on the network. The app on the iPad is locating the MBP by ip address so it must be a permanently assigned number.

    Am having the same problem.
Everything was working fine until yesterday.
Now if I connect my iMac to the Extreme with Ethernet the Airport is not visible and I can't connect to the internet.
iPods and iPhones can still use the wifi to get on the internet.
If I switch the iMac to Airport it works, but, will not work with the Ethernet cable connected.
Have tried changing ethernet cables and still no go.
    Can't figure this out.

  • What is the process for connecting ethernet.  Have ethernet cable connected to stereo received for internet radio and Blue Ray. However Network System Preferences indicates ethernet not connected and has red dot to left.  Note Airport wireless is working.

What is the process for connecting airport extreme ethernet?  I have ethernet cables connected to stereo receiver for internet radio and another to blue ray player.  The system preference network indicates "ethernet not connected" with red dot to left of this message.  The airport wireless works and has green dot to left of it.  The stereo receiver and blue ray player do not respond and give message not connect to internet.  Thank you.  /  cfpirate

It worked for me finally. I took out the DNS numbers in airport admin utility, and restarted the airport express. I do not remember putting the DNS numbers in, I wonder from where the airport express got those numbers.
    After restarting, it worked.
    Thanks!

No. Your iMac only has DVI video connection. You would need an iMac with Thunderbolt.
