Av cable.... MBP to tv

i bought the av cable to hook up my ipod to my tv so i could watch some movies and it worked fine after i chose in the ipod settings tv output to on. is there any way to connect the same way but my macbook pro to my tv? and if so which hole on the left side of the computer

AFAIK there is only one 'hole' to plug into.
There is a way when using a VGA monitor to view on both displays so I would assume there is a way to get the same on a teevee but why would you want to? The rez on the teevee is so much more lower than the MBP that if you can see it, it'll likely be raunchy...
I've found that it helps (with the VGA adapter) to have the device turned on and ready and then plug it in to the 'hole'...
I'd use the VGA dongle and get a cheap monitor. There are some great deals on teevee/monitor boxes that are fantastic for what you want...

  • DAT-- Toslink cable-- MBP--- Logic

Hi, folks... Need some help with direct recording.
I've got lots of DATs (digital audio tapes) that I want to convert to aiff or mp3s. My DAT deck works great (Fostex D-5), the Toslink cable feeds the digital audio stream just fine to my MBP (@44.1kHz) and I know I've got signal coming in because QuickTime can record it, but how do I tell Logic Pro 8 that I want the new channel strip to pipe in from my input jack that's getting the Toslink cable feed signal from the DAT deck, rather than my iSight MBP mic?
If anyone knows how to change this input setting form iSight mic to optical input jack on the left side of the MBP, it would be really helpful. Thanks!

Audio/midi setup: change input from built-in mic to built-in optical
in Logic preference-audio, change input from built-in mic to built-in optical

  • Computer to computer issues

I have a MBP and a Pro at home, when I ran Tiger, both could see each other and connect easily via Airport (pro connected to base station with cable, MBP wireless)
Both have been updated to SL and now they don't see each other. I've tried the various suggestions on other threads, but no solution as yet.
When I have the MBP at work I can see all the other Mac computers in the dept. which is most frustrating.
Any ideas out there on a solution? Thanks

I've just tried to reset Airport, but it doesn't seem to want to allow me access using the normal password that I use.
And this is in a new location and you are using the "Assist Me" button?
EDIT: Also, in Applications/Utilities/Network Utility and check that your current firmware is up-to-date.

  • Mid 2011 mbp i7 with a SSD has problems, including grey screen/blue screen/beeping/freezing when I stream live video (i.e. watch espn or time warner cable) Help? Ideas?

Recently my Macbook Pro (June 2011, i7, 8gb RAM, 512gb SSD, AMD Radeon 6750, Mountain Lion - since July - currently 10.8.2) has been presenting me with an array of problems, usually initiated when I am streaming live video. I was streaming Time Warner Cable on 12/9 and it gave me what looked like the blue screen of death.  It started up after about five attempts that time. The other day, after about a week of not using the computer, it wouldn't boot past the grey screen. I (option) started it and it gave me two boot choices, the regular HD and a "10.8 restore" option.  The HD gave me the grey screen and the restore option gave me the dark blue screen. I reset PRAM and that didn't work.  After a force (x) start it worked.  Today, I was using "Watch ESPN" and the screen froze and the computer did some kind of repeating RAM beep or something.  I rebooted and it started up fine.  I'm not watching any videos anymore, but this is a problem since the primary purpose for my mbp is video editing. I'm still under AppleCare but I find more solid answers in the forums or at least better questions for the AppleCare people.
Anybody have similar experiences, or a solid idea of what the heck has happened to my machine?

I'm not really sure what method that person was talking about. I just read he had a successful install so I posted it.
    But I'll hazard a guess
    1. copy your entire drive to a backup drive
    2. boot into that drive and test it out - make sure its a flawless backup, it works, and the hard drive has no problems
    3. eject that drive, disconnect it and reboot into the leopard install dvd
    4. erase your main hard drive using disc utilities on the leopard install dvd -- you've made a backup, made sure that backup was good, and disconnected it so it's currently safely disconnected from the leopard install you're about to do. Also, on the hard drive you're erasing and installing leopard on to, many people recommend "Zeroing" it as well as erasing it. That option is part of the erase function in disc utilities on the leopard install disc.
    5. do a clean install of leopard
    6. follow step 4 from that original post exactly as that person described to do.
    7. read the rest of what they said
That's pretty much it. With the backup/erase/clean install/import/ you pretty much get everything you need exactly the way you want it with very few things missing -- and you've done this over a clean install. Plus that poster did mention that you can select what you want to import from your backup hard drive.
It sounds like its a "clean install" method that gives you control via "import from machine" option in the installer. Control over what parts of your "old mac" you want to import into your "new leopard mac".
Hopefully that helps. It sounds more involved, but its actually pretty quick and provides you with a perfectly save backup in case anything goes wrong with the leopard install.

  • I am trying to connect mbp to tv using mini display port and HDMI cable TVtuned tocorrect port as shows Mac wallpaper (purple star scene) but does not show what is on MBP.  What can I try so that I can see mbp display on TV?

What do I needto do to connect a tv as an external display for my mbp using a mini display port to hdmi cable.  I have tried display without success.  tv is receiving a signal as displays apples default wallpaper when connected but nothing from screen of mbp.

Soundls like it is working. Try dragging a window on the MBP to the edge of the screen and see if it appears on the TV.
There are two ways to set up the TV one is to mirror the MBP display and the other is to be an extension of the MBP's screen.

  • MBP late 2013 won't connect to TV with HDMI cable

Yesterday I connected my MBP (late 2013) with a SCEPTRE TV using an HDMI cable and it worked perfectly.
I wake up the next day and try to connect it again but the TV says "No Signal"
I didn't touch the set up in any way so nothing changed physically.

  • MBP to an a/v receiver via dvi to hdmi cable, display not detected?

So as the title says, I'm trying to connect my MBP to a Sony str-dg510 a/v receiver in this order:
    MBP >
Mini Displayport to dvi connector (http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB570Z/A?fnode=MTY1NDA5OQ&mco=MTA4ODk2OTE ) >
    dvi to hdmi cable (http://www.amazon.com/DVI-HDMI-Cable-6ft-Male-Male/dp/B0002CZHN6 ) >
    Sony STR-dg510 AV Receiver >
    Analog TV.
And here's the issue: I'm not getting a second display detected at all. It is an analog connection from the AV receiver to the TV, and I've connected other laptops to the receiver just fine, albeit on a different input.
So I'm not sure where to go from here, the mini displayport to dvi works fine onto an apple display at work.
I also got an unlock message on the receiver at first and thought this may be the issue, so I got an optical audio cable similar to this: (http://www.ramelectronics.net/audio-video/audio-cables/digital-audio-optical-tos link-cable/poft3ps/prodPOFT3PS.html )
And now the sound plays fine, but still no picture (and the unlock message is gone.)
    Any idea's?
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Community Q62.
If it works fine on another TV but not directly with this TV, the problem is with your TV or your cables. Have you eliminated the cables.

  • What cable is needed to connect a MBP to an external Display?

I've been browsing Apple Store for cables to connect my MBP to my Sony HDTV, which both has HDMI input and a VGA input, I'm very confused about what to choose. I don't want to buy something that I won't be able to use.

You want the MiniDisplay port to HDMI adapter and a HDMI cable.  If you have a Thunderbolt port, the adapter plugs into that as well.

  • Connect MBP to TV using RCA Cables

Hi. Is there a way I can connect my MacBook Pro to my older TV just using RCA?
Basically I have Red, Yellow and White open ports on my TV and wondered if there was a cable or a converter of some kind that I could connect my computer to and then connect that to the RCA cables.
    Thanks!
    Message was edited by: crystalfromshawnee

Those are actually composite inputs (the yellow is video, the red and white are stereo audio), not RGB. Depending on what model of MacBook Pro you have, this adapter might work:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/M9267G/A
If your MacBook Pro has a mini DisplayPort connector rather than DVI, then it's been reported that a mini DisplayPort adapter (available from Apple) and this converter:
    http://www.grandtec.com/products/video/untimateEZ.html
works, but I have no personal experience with it.
Either solution would require that you run the audio separately, from the headphone/speaker output of your MBP to the red and white inputs on your TV.

  • Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

Help please. Extended display won't work on MBP and AOC 20" 1600 x 900  60HZ monitor. Mirror display does. I've a mini dvd to vga converter cable. Should this work?

I have the same mini display port adapter and Belkin DVI-HDMI cable (but a Panasonic 42" Plasma HDTV) so just set this up on it to see if I could duplicate your problem, unfortunately for you (but good for me) I can't.
I connected the adapter+HDMI cable before switching the HDTV on and then powered up the MBP. It (the HDTV) came up with my background right away (it's set at Mirror not extended Desktop) and when I run System Preferences/Displays get the following. Sorry but all I can confirm is that adapter+cable combination should work ...
Try doing a Parameter RAM reset - hold down command/option/p/r keys at start up and wait for three chimes before releasing the keys?

  • MBP screen black after using DVI to HDMI cable

Over a week ago I attempted to connect my MBP 2007 model to my samsung television with HDMI in. I have used this cable before but always have trouble getting it to work with this TV and my computer.
Well, I plugged it in and the screen on my computer went black and the image failed to appear on the TV despite tinkering with the settings.
When I unplugged the cable The image would not restore to my screen so I restarted it...same back screen. I took the battery out and pushed the power button to drain the juice and put it back in. No luck. Please help. Any usea? Seems to just be a software problem.
    Sent from my iPhone, sigh

  • MBP to TV using a cable - TV screen greys out after 10-15 mins

Hi there, I am looking for some assistance to solve the following issue that I cannot seem to resolve,
I have my Macbook Pro (OS 10.8.5) hooked up to my 42' Philips TV (Model 42PFL560AH) using Belkin Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable. I then go to displays settings on my Mac and mirror displays and I then have audio and video on the TV and everything is working fine.
The problem I have is if I stream video from the web, the TV screen  'greys out' every 10-15 mins or so and I then have to go to my display settings on my Macbook Pro and change the refresh rate. I change between PAL & NTSC or visa versa and I am then good for another 10-15mins.
I do not know if this problem is Mac or TV model related.
Any help or suggestion is appreciated as this is doing my head in.
    Regards,
    Celtictiger

  • MBP to TV via HDMI cable

I have a problem. my MBP won't come up on my TV. I have done everything. I connect my MBP with kanex Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Cable with Audio Support. it connects to 26" Dynex TV. It work a few times before and then all of a sudden it's not working now. I have done everything turned mirroring on and off, reconnected to the TV. Is there something that I am doing wrong?

MacBook Pro 5,x and later have DisplayPort
MacBook Pro 4,x and earlier have DVI
MacBook Pro 7,x and later support audio over Displayport
Macbook Pro 6,x and earlier you need speakers on headphone port, or cable into audio input on TV if TV has audio in. x can be any number.
Only 1080p TVs support full display of computer screen. 1080i can be hacked with DisplayConfigX or SwitchResX, but likely you will see only TV safe area if no 1080p is there. Horizontal X 768 are not 1080p resolutions. Go to Apple menu- About This Mac - More info to find which model you have of MacBook Pro?
Get the model number of set, and we can tell you your options.

  • HDMI cable connection to MBP

Should the MBP be powered off or sleeping before plugging in the HDMI cable to connect a TV or does it matter? I notice when I plug in the cable with both TV and MBP turned on, the MBP screen will flicker for a few seconds until the display shows up on the TV. Is that normal?

It doesn't matter if the Mac is powered on or off.  The flickering when you connect to the TV is normal.  Your MBP is sensing the resolution capabilty of your TV and resetting accordingly to give you the best quality on both screens.
Note: if you are using mirror mode, the TV will be limited by the maximum resolution of your MBP's own screen.  If you are using extended desktop mode you can independently set the resolution of your MBP screen and your TV's display.

  • How do I get good audio feed from DVD player to my MBP using an optic cable

I have successfully recorded audio off of concert DVD's using Sound Studio 3 by connecting my DVD player to my MBP using left/right outputs to a 35mm input. I purchased an optical cable, connected it to my DVD player and used a 35mm adapter to connnect it to my MBP input. All I get is a weird popping interferance type sound instead of clear audio. Any tips on what is going on? I have correct settings in system preferences (recognizes an optical connection) but all I hear is noise?
    Thanks for any help!

I just use mac the ripper with the following instructions
    http://www.ripdifferent.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=1249&sid=de5cc9506c05b6ba98d6 530884489333
It gives you a few options for audio, I generally save as AAC though you can rip as AIFF and then encode into just about anything with quicktime.
