I found by issue "mount -v" that our disk slices are
UFS type. So we don't need apply patch 5257399,
right? Please confirm. Thanks!!!For your information, you are asking the user community to confirm, not Oracle. Some (many?) of us are not employed by Oracle.
Therefore, the only answers you can get are from 'friends'. Nothing would be official and Oracle (and Oracle Support) would not be legally responsible.
Your safest bet would be to escalate the request wityh Oracle Support.

    Hi-
You can use below manual installation proceeds as follows :
Step 1. Download a setup for Windows and run it on a Windows machine.
Step 2. Once the setup is finished, FTP all the following files and folders from your Windows machine to you Sun Solaris server :
the entire 'bin' folder (excepting the '.bat' files) - ASCII transfer mode
the entire 'lib' folder - BINARY transfer mode
the entire 'drivers' folder - BINARY transfer mode
Step 3. Once you have transferred all the files, do not forget to configure the odiparams.sh file according to your environment. Also add the appropriate files, used by ODI to connect to your technologies, to the 'drivers' folder.
    Does it helpful?

  • Is "SCSI Generic" driver available for Solaris 10?

I just wanted to know whether "SCSI Generic" driver is available for Solaris 10? And if yes then is it freely available?
weblinks for download would be very much helpful.
    Thanks..

sgen is the driver that exports the uscsi api. I would presume that uscsi and sg would be similar, but annoyingly different. You can see the uscsi interface here: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/817-5430/6mksu57l0?l=en&a=view&q=uscsi

  • When will 11.1.0.7 will be available for Solaris (SPARC) (32-bit)?

    Hi
Does any of you know when 11.1.0.7 for "Solaris Operating System (SPARC) (32-bit)" will be available for download on http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/index.html ?
The reason for my question is that 11.1.0.6 contains a bug (at least on Solaris) causing it to reserve approx 180M swap for each client started!

    Just became available on http://www.oracle.com/technology/software/tech/oci/instantclient/htdocs/solsoft.html

  • When will 11gR2 be available for Solaris?

It's been three weeks since the release so I'm curious if anyone knows of a date for when 11gR2 for Solaris will be released?
    Thanks!

Oracle's policy has been to ensure all supported versions of an OS are treated the same at the time of an Oracle s/w release - if they are available, all features for an Oracle release will have been tested and, as far as feasible, will work the same with the exception of performance.
    I admire Oracle's consistency.
I am saddened by people who seem to not accept that Oracle customers may be at a wide variety of supported versions of an OS and should be supported by Oracle product. You certainly have a respectable viewpoint.
I personally was (and am) most saddened at no 11g release at all on the Solaris x86_64 platform. I sometimes wonder if that was political reasons rather than technical or straightforward business decisions.
I generally think that for most Solaris customers moving to 11gR2 the business case would be overwhelming to move to Solaris 10 at the same time (exception might be a client only install). 11gR1 and lower are available to customers wishing to remain below Solaris 10.
What moving to solaris 10 would give is the ability to ensure concentration was made to intergrate well with the Solaris SMF facility rather than a dual SMF/legacy approach; and I'm not sure Oracle can really put in the resources to support both well.
I really dont think are in the upgrade catch-22 that used to occur (but I may be wrong here) .... for instance when Sun ultrasparcs needed Solaris 2.5/2.51 and that Oracle 7.1.4 was not supported on that release (7.1.4 was only supported to Solaris 2.4) . However 7.1.6.2 (which ws the terminal 7.1 release) would not run Oracle Forms 2.3 correctly for existing applications (it finally would (and would do so excellently) with a few patches but 7.1.6.2 had burnt a development DBA badly by that point, nd 7.3 was not an option as that was not compatible with forms 2.3). The upgrade plans for the E-Business Suite on a Sparc 1000 containing dev/test/prod on same Solaris 2.3 server were even more of a nightmare in that era.

Having said that the main pain would probably be that some Solaris 8 / Solaris 9 servers out there may be tight for space on partitions containing root, /usr and /var and an upgrade to solaris 10 might require some shunting and shuffling. If overall server space is an issue then IMHO going to 11gR2 needs to be thought carefully anyway.

  • DataSocket library available for Solaris 8

We are in the process of evaluating LabView and/or Labview/CVI for our application. One of the questions I have is whether a DataSocket library is available for use on a Solaris 8 platform so we can receive LabView data (via a DataSocket) there? If it is available, is there some sort of evaluation copy I can get ahold of to validate our concept??

    Jim,
The DataSocket(DS) library is available for use on a solaris 2.8 platform with the only limitation that the DS server is not available. You can request online evaluation versions for NI-Software at the following link:

Is Oracle providing a client for "Solaris 10 AMD-64" ?
If so could you let me know the link to a trail/download s/w ?

    Hi Hans!
    Thanks much.
Currently we are using Oracle database v9, so we are more interested on Oracle 9.x client to be run on "Solaris 10 AMD64".
I searched for the combination of "Oracle client 9.x"/"Solaris x86-64", and came to know this combination is missing(or unavailable) from the client list provided at Oracle web site.

  • 7.7.07.30 not available for Solaris x86_64?

Build 7.7.07.30 is available for Linux x86_64 an Linux IA64 but not for other operating systems. Is there a reason for this?
    Markus

    Hi Markus,
no special reason for that apart from this: we had problems in tests on other platforms and this version was urgently requested especially on Linux and Windows where the tests were fine. So we decided to make this version available only on these platforms. The corrections/changes will be made available on all platforms with 7.7.07.32 which is currently in delivery.

  • Communication and Mob. availability for Solaris Intel or MacOS X Intel?

if there is , how stable it is to run this software over a compatibility layer on top of these OSs ?

I successfully connected an Intel Xserve to an EMC Clariion X600 array this past summer for testing purposes. Just make sure you get the UUID of the SAN from the System Admin of the SAN array. Similarly you'll have to give the SAN admin the UUID for your Fibre Channel interface. The UUID is like an Ethernet MAC address and allows you to see the SAN array over the Fibre Channel connection. We also had to get an SFP adapter for our Fibre Channel card as our SAN switch was all fiber optic connections.
Once we configured both ends of the Fibre Channel and the System Admin had allocated a 100GB slice to my UUID, I initially couldn't see the SAN. After about a day of delays and double-checking the SAN admin rebooted the SAN, I rebooted the Xserve and the 100GB slice magically showed up in Disk Utility as unformatted storage directly attached to the machine. I don't know if there's any trick to configuring the Clariion box. I know they made no adjustments or changes to get the Mac to work on the SAN side. The system admin of the SAN kept saying, "We've never done this before,... You have to install the drivers for the SAN,... what interface is the Mac using?...Who manufactures it?...Do they provide any drivers whatsoever for the Mac?...
Also our on-campus Mac re-seller directed me to alienRAID.org

There's some entries there on hooking Apple Fibre Channel to Clariion hardware:

  • Cheap KVM switch for Solaris 10 on US and Intel boxes?

Hi. Any one got some idea on which kind of KVM switch is supported on Solaris 10 on UltraSparc as well as Intel boxes? I can only find those expensive ones for enterprise users, but I am just a home user, unable to afford that. Thanks for your suggestion!!

From what I can tell, containers (zones) are supported just fine on the x86/64 systems with the exception of Solaris 8 and Solaris 9 branded zones. Oh, and Linux-branded zones only work on x86/64 systems. Solaris 10 though as a non-global zone works on any S10 host OS.

Oracle Instant Client was a "feature" introduced with Oracle 10g. There is no 9i version.
Code that links with Oracle 9i libraries should be able to be linked with Instant Client 10gR2.
The resulting application will be able to connect to databases from Oracle 8.1 onwards.

You can Download and configure Apache 1.3.19 w/ ASP and JSP (via jserv and Jakarta) support. You can also enable PHP 4 which iis slightly faster than ASP. You will though have to configure Apache-ASP 2.0 instead of downloading the Linux rpm. The Configuration I have works in that fashion except with the inclusion of Frontpage support for Virtual Domains on our Servers.
