Availability of 9iAS Rel 2, Portal and WebCache

Please O Great and Powerful One -- Enlighten Us, the unwashed, as to when we in the Windows world may expect to see Release 2 of 9iAS

Your wish is my command.
Barring a disturbance in the Force, the target release to manufacturing is May 31st, with an OTN release on or around that date.

• Portal and webcache headers

How is portal integrated with webcache. Is it possible to control the surrogate-control headers that portal include as caching directives to webcache? Is there a document or whitepapers that describes the portal and webcache integration in detail and how to configure it?
I know you can specify caching settings under page properties, but this is for controlling the plsql cache right?
Any feedback appreciated.

Hi Jason, I appreciate your responses to this.
The confiuguration is actually a little bit odd..
The customer originally installed ias with midtier and webcache on the same box. Let's call it WC1. Then they installed another standalone webcache in a DMZ (WC2). The idea was that internal users should access portal through WC1 while users from internet should access portal through WC2. Then Cachseed.sql was run to rewire
portal to WC2. It seems that even if the users access portal through WC2, portal still sends it requests to WC1 to check for page definitions. It's on WC1 where the Not cacheable according to Surrogate-Control header's
vary directive appears.
Just a thought: Could this behaviour indicate that the portal session cookie is not sent to WC1 and hence the Webcache won't cache the page definition even if the Surrogate control headers indicates that it should?
Another question:
Are there any reference architectures for this kind of setup with portal. There are a lot of customers that wants to route their intranet and internet users to portal via two different webcaches localized in different networks.
I am aware of the problem that Portal can only specify one host to send webcache invalidations to..

• 9iAS rel 2 SLOW and report times out when running !! HELP !

Hello,
I have 9iAS installed on Win 2K machine SP 2.
I have done the BI install with the infrastructure in a separate home.
I have 524K RAM.
EM is VERY SLOW (as per usual).
I have rebooted the server a few times - still slow.
When I try to run a report it times out just bringing up the parameter page !
If I try to kill the report I run into BUG 2544383 which is a fat lot of use ....
This 9iAS is absolute garbage - how can Oracle tell us to migrate our existing developer forms & reports to web-deployment from client server if this sort of performance is going on ? This is still in development - if this was a production machine this would be TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE !!!!!
Does anyone from Oracle actually respond to these threads or are they too busy writing bugs for the next release of 9iAS ?
Seriously though, if anyone has some workarounds for these issues then please let me know.
Thanks

We got aound the ADMN error by manually starting the components that were down in Infrastructure first then the ones in the BI instance all thru EM.
FYI Oracle said this to me about recommended h/w :
The Installation Guide for iAS sets the minimum requirements for installing iAS as:
Infrastructure 512Mb RAM
Mid Tier install with 4 or more components 512 Mb RAM
Please remember that these are minimums only and are not the recommendations for anything larger than a small workgroup installation. The main points to remember are to install the OS on a seperate physical disk from the Applications and to have as much RAM as you can beyond the minumums. But even this approach has its limitations and so you may then have to consider different approachs to maximising scalablility. It is also not recommended to have the Infrastructure and Mid-tier installed on the same machine for larger systems as you are more likely to encounter resource limitations due to the different installations serving different purposes.
So we are going to go with your minimum 2 Gig with 7 gig swap file I think.
I think we may go for a 3-server setup.
one with Infrastructure and Portal on it.
The other 2 with BI installs on them with them probably running in some sort of cluster (either hardware or software cluster). All with 2 gig RAM.
I still don't know why somtimes my reports hang - I think it may possibly be BUG 2544383 which to me is a major issue as a lot of our reports are PDF as users print them out. But essentially it screws up the AS and invariably I have to either restart the WHOLE instance or reboot the server ! NOT very good for when I want to go Live with this !

• Oracle 9iAS Rel.2 Portal

I have successfully installed the Oracle 9iAS Infrastructure and portal in release 2 of 9iAS
I have got the different Oracle homes for the J2EE, Infrastructure, and Portal also.
Can any one please tell me How should I run the Oracle Portal on my machine.
Step by Step solution is heartly desired.
Thanks and Regards
Suhas Shahapurkar

Hi Bijesh,
We are coming out with a portal sizing document shortly on portalcenter (portalcenter.oracle.com). Meanwhile, ideally, for a production enviornment, you should be having Oracle9iAS infrastructure and Oracle9iAS on different machines. This configuration is more scaleable.
Thanks,
Ved

• 9ias rel.2, modplsql and virtual path question

I am running 9iAS setup running a plsql-app.
http://myserver/DAD/procedure.
Problem is that in the html generated by these procedures there are references to images in the form of "http://myserver/DAD/img/image.jpg".
This caused call to an non existing img-procedure in the database and hence no graphics to show.
I tried using virtual path alias as follows:
Alias DAD/img/ "/MYDIR/img/"
<Directory /MYDIR/img/>
AllowOverride None
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
</Directory>
But it still comes up with the same error:
img: PROCEDURE DOESN'T EXIST
Can anyone point out what I am overlooking ??

I am trying to fix it using 9iAS setup. I can't touch the procedures themselves unforunately.

• 9iAS J2EE and WebCache Installation stop to response...

Installation of 9iAS Infrastructure is succeeded.
Then I start to install 9iAS J2EE and WebCache on the same machine...
When I finished entering
Instance Name: cn=orcladmin
ias_admin Password: xxxxxxxx
then the oracle installer stops to response, just displaying a 'clock-cursor'.
I tried several times and this happens again and again.
Anyone can give me some suggestion?

Run the setup which is under wsf-fullinstall/disk1 folder of the installation kit. This will install ORacle windows system files. Reboot the system and then restart 9i AS setup, this should solve the problem.
cheers,
Jana.

• 9iAS Rel 2 On P4 running XP Pro

I would like to know whethr 9iAS rel 2 (9.0.2.0.1) can be installed on a P4 m/c running XP Pro.
I have tried the follwoing workaround till now but to no avail,
1)Renaming the symcjit.dll files and then running the installation.
2)Replacing the symcjit.dll file with the new symcjit.dll file and then running the installation.
3)Renaming the symcjit.dll files and setting the -nojit flag in the oraparam.ini file and then running the installation.
4)Installing the jre-1_2_2_011-win after downloading it.
Replacing the symcjit.dll file and adding the bin path to the environment variables and then running the installs again.
5)I have even applied the patch 1507768 and then tried the install.
These workarounds have failed.
Is there a way out??
This is extremely urgent.
Any help/pointers will be helpful
Regards
KK

How did you uninstall Oracle? You cannot use the Oracle Installer to remove Oracle. To completely remove Oracle from a Windows system you must edit the registry and several other steps. If you need these procedures, send me an e-mail: [email protected]

Hi there,
Have you applied any patches to 9ias since it was first installed? We had the same problem and had to apply a couple of patches to get the portlets working.
1. Apply the 9.0.2.53.16 one-off patch for Oracle 9iAS Discoverer which takes Discoverer up to 9.0.2.53.16. This patch appears to be password protected and you need to get someone at Oracle support to give you a password.
2. Apply the Discoverer Portlet Provider: 9.0.2.53.00c patch (patch no. 2595444) which gives you a new discportal.xsl file that actually works. It's this second step that solves your problem but you need to do step 1 before this. This is password protected as well.
3. As you've upgraded Disco on the server to 9.0.2.53, you'll need to upgrade Disco Admin & Desktop within your 9iDS installation using patch no. 2555265. This is because Disco 9.0.2.53 uses an upgraded EUL that Disco Admin & Desktop need to be patched to use.
This was the course of action Oracle support advised us about nine months ago. Of course they may have released a further patch to Disco that does 1 & 2 in one go, but we regularly carry out steps 1 and 2 on servers we use and we can use the Disco portlets successfully.
Hope this helps

• Portal and Internet Explorer problem

Hi everyone. My problem is that I'm using Portal through the WEB AS Java stack SP09 and i can't update to the newer stacks since I'm on IDES system, so it has to be SP09. Well, my operating system Win 2003 x64 comes with Internet explorer 8 by default.
i have some problems with IE8, Chrome or FireFox when browsing through the Portal, for example, I can't add to the Group "Everyone" End user permissions, because the "ADD" button is greyed out.
I tried to uninstall the IE8, but i can't find the way to do it. I can't remove it through the Control panel (there is no option to remove it)
nor can I do it through the Command Line with %windir%\ie8\spuninst\spuninst.exe    because I don't have the IE8 folder!!
Do you have any ideas on how could i solve it?

Thank you guys for the answers, but
1/ I can't upgrade the SP lever, since I'm on IDES system and I don't have any Maintenance Certificates to installa packages, besides the fact that they have to be dowloaded through the Solution manager
2/ I tries the compatibility mode and nothings's changed. The problem I'm having is that when I'm in the Portal and do a right-click for example in PortalContent > landscapesystem > SAP_BW. it opens the Internet Explorer menu and not the Portal's, so I can't choose "new" or "open" or "permissions"  and when i doble click it the drop-down menu that appears where I could choos the same options is too narrow and empty.....
i donwgraded finally the IE to the IE7 version, but no luck either.  i tried to install the IE6, but there is no IE6 version for x64 bits systems.
Any other suggestions? How could i make this context menu available?

Hi All,
In my scenario i need to configure the IDM workflow in portal and do SSO between them. I followed the steps given in IDM-Workflow installation document and did following things.
1. Uploaded the par file available in IDM installation kit in to portal.
2. Imported the Portal Content package (epa file) in to portal.I got the role Identity Center in my masthead.
3. Created System as said in the document.
4. Completed the necessary steps for transporting certificate between them.
But when click on the role 'Identy Center' or do preview of any iViews of IDM i am getting the following error.

• Question about Portal and BI Beans

Hi,
I am trying to create a Portlet that displays Thin BI Beans crosstab. Using the "URL-Based Portlet (inline rendering)", I could display the Thin BI Beans crosstab inside the Portal. But, when I try to drill down or change the page edge, it ends up with "No Page Found" error. My question is...
1) Is it possible to embed a Thin BI Beans crosstab inside the Portal and manipulate it dynamically?
2) If it is possible, how can I do that?
I will attach my provider.xml and JSP file that creates the crosstab. Please let me know if you need more information. Thank you very much.

• Install Portal and Database with modem turned off?

I am about to install Oracle Portal 9iAS with Oracle 8i database in a Win2000 PC. I have a cable internet connection that uses DHCP to dynamically assign IP and DNS addresses. Would DHCP be a problem? Should I make the installation with the modem turned off?
Thank you very much,
Melissa

I installed Portal and Database on my machine at home which has both a public and private IP and there were NO problems doing it with the modem on and connected.

• LDAP Error 50 configuring OC4J in 9ias Rel 2

Hello everybody,
I'm trying to install 9ias Rel 2 on a Windows 200 Server machine.
Unfortunatly after 3 tries i'm continuing receiving the following error during the OC4J configuration step in a Business Intelligence Installation type ( i want to say first that all the Infrastructure installation and configuration was successfully executed and that i stopped the EM before starting the OAS installation to avoid to have conflict with the dcmctl tool):
The configuration files for this Oracle9iAS instance are inconsistent with the
configuration stored in the repository. In order to protect the repository,
no further configuration or deployment operations are allowed until the problem with the configuration on the filesystem is resolved. This condition arises when a prior operation was unsuccessful. Please check the logs located at
ORACLE_HOME/dcm/logs to determine why DCM was unsuccessful in updating
the configuration files on disk. Some possible causes are:
- permissions on files
- file contention issues on Windows NT
- EMD and dcmctl running concurrently
- internal Oracle error
After resolving the problem that prevented DCM from updating the configuration
files, you may use the dcmctl resyncInstance command to resolve the problem.
Alternatively, you can stop and then restart the active dcmctl or EMD
process and resyncInstance will automatically be performed.
The dcm.log says:
[ RM ] Exception in repository API getDBConnect()

I have tried 3 times (everytime after deinstalling and cleaning the machine), and got the same error.
Can anyone help me? It's really urgent and i spent a lot of time without solving it yet.
Thanx in advance

I have had the same problem getting any dates from Oracle as well but after talking to Oracle and bugging them about it here is the response I received:
Sun Solaris before May 31
MS Windows - Solaris date + 8 weeks
Red Hat 7.1 - Solaris date + 1 week
SuSe SLES7 - Solaris date + 1 day
True64 - Solaris date + 4 weeks
I don't know how reliable these dates are but I thought I would pass on what I have been told, since some information is better than none.

• WebCenter Portal and Portlet support in JDeveloper 11.1.2 version

Hi,
When the WebCenter Portal and Portlet application creation will be available within JDeveloper 11.1.2 version ?
Thanks
Eli

Thanks for your answer.
My Requirements are:
1) Develope a stand alone ADF FACES(JSF 2.0) application
2) Develope a Portal using webcenter- We need to implement portlets by taking some of the functonality that was implemented in section (1) and use the Portlet-JSF bridge to create the portlets.
Basically, we need to support JSF 2.0 standart.
As I understood I must use the JDeveloper 11.1.2 version as it support the JSF 2.0. but what about the Webcenter and the Portlet-JSF bridge to support JSF 2.0 ?
I will be happy to get a clarification for those requirments.
Thanks a lot !
Eli

• Relationship of Portal and Used  disk space

What is the relation ship between the portal and dataspace available in the particular system?

When J2EE server starts up it deploys portal applications (sap and custom developed, at times it involved extracting archive files) to the file system. If you don't have enough disk space either portal may not come up or the sever will come up but it will not function properly.
Hope it clarifies.
Thanks and Regards,
