Hi.
I have been using Blackberry for over a year now & It has been great indeed.
The only issues that I face are with Appworld as it is still not available for Oman. The number of Blackberry users here in Oman has increased and is on a rapid boom.
I just wanted to enquire regarding the availability of Appworld in Oman.

  • Blackberry world is not available my country

Hi . I live in Ethiopia blackberry world is not available my country but I have blackberry I'd . What shall I do open my black berry world please give different options
Subject Title edited to reflect new topic.

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please check this page to ensure you meet the minimum requirements (including if it is available in your country):
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/appworld/download.jsp
If it is available in your country and you feel you meet the device-level system requirements, then contact your carrier to ensure that you meet the service plan (from them) requirements for access (via their network) to AppWorld.
Further still, do be aware that AppWorld is merely a portal, vending apps developed mainly by others. As such, it is not your exclusive procurement source -- there are others that you can try:
    AppWorld in selected countries
    MobiHand everywhere in the world
    Handango everywhere in the world
    BPlay everywhere in the world
    GetJAR everywhere in the world
I have found that there are very few apps that are exclusive to AppWorld. You can search the on-line catalog and then search out other procurement sources, including quite often the developer website itself.
Lastly, do understand that BB does not have unilateral control over the availability of AppWorld. They have to ensure that they and their partners meet local laws and legislation for operating an e-commerce system -- and that can take time. AppWorld is in over 160 countries now and adding more and more every month.
    Good luck!

  • Lost app not found in appworld

Hello.  Following the latest desktop software update crashing at the backup process, my blackberry curve 8530 was reset to out-of-the-box condition, except that it wiped out all the user apps.  I have recovered the ones (both purchased and free) that I could reinstall through appworld, but the ones that are available there.
Question: is it possible to reinstall apps such as Notes and Maps and the ToGo productivity sampler?
These do not appear to be available on AppWorld, and do not show on the uninstalled list there.  Thanks in advance!

With iOS 8 iBooks comes with the OS, there's no need to download it anymore (and you can no longer delete it from the iPad either). If you are running an earlier release of iOS than 8 the app is still available for download from the store.

  • App World Not Available in Your Country....

'Blackberry App world is not currently available in your country, Please check blackberry.com/appworld for updates.' - Whenever I try to access to blackberry app world I get a pop-up saying what I have written previous. I am from the yemen and have been using App World previously, the last time I used it was about an hour ago so it is only a recent problem. I have updated to the latest software not too long ago, I have reinstalled App world and still no joy. I was wondering if anyone could enlighten me as to what is happening?
    Thanks in Advance,

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
Please check this page to ensure you meet the minimum requirements (including if it is available in your country):
    http://na.blackberry.com/eng/services/appworld/download.jsp
I do not see Yemen listed as an available country for BBWorld...which begs the curiosity as to how you were able to previously use it. Perhaps the prior version of it you were using was certified for your country, but now your country has dropped from the list
It's actually impossible for anyone here, in this user-to-user community, to know for sure the answers to any of these questions. All we can know is that Yemen is not listed as an available country, and hence cannot be expected to function for you. We cannot know if it was previously listed but has been dropped, why that may have happened if it did, nor why you were able to previously use it. All we can know is that you cannot expect it to function based on the information we have available.
Do of course be aware that AppWorld is merely a portal, vending apps developed mainly by others. As such, it is not usually your exclusive procurement source -- there are others that you can try:

Lastly, do understand that BlackBerry does not have unilateral control over the availability of AppWorld. They have to ensure that they and their partners meet local laws and legislation for operating an e-commerce system -- and that can take time, especially given the necessary governmental involvement of each jurisdiction.
    Good luck!

  • How to do things Wrong, or the Playbook. A Catharsis.

Dear Blackberry, I want to talk about your little beautiful tablet: The Playbook.
This is a Catharsis, so don't take this personal, it isn't.
I have one, I found it's hardware to be incredible. The OS (2.0) it's also fast and responsive. There are several thing really well done in it: multitasking, gestures, the way to close programs, how to reset, suspend and shutdown, and many, many others.
But it have a problem, you hate your users. You hate them badly, because you don't know them, or ignore them on purpose (not sure yet).
Let's talk about what can go wrong with such a good product, because there are a few levels of wrong.
    First wrong: the basic software
Let's jump to OS 2.0 directly, because thinking on a tablet without a native contacts and mail client gives me the chills.
Twitter. Amazing service eh? Even you have several accounts, in different languages and all. But you don't offer a free native twitter client. You have one, for ALL your phones, and it's good. Amazingly, you didn't port it to QNX, so we are all stuck with buying one, or use the web interface. Look at your great tablet, now grab the crappiest droid tablet with at least V2.3 of the OS. In one of those two tablets you have twitter out of the box. Hint: not in yours.
Blackberry Messenger (BBM). Again, amazing service. I think that's the single feature of your products that make you sell about 1M phones in a 40M inhabitants country, mine. Really amazing. So, if you get a Blackberry, you have it, right? No, wrong. Not with the Playbook. And you know what? That makes the Playbook a LOT less appeal to LOTS of people. Apple copied you, and released a messaging application with iOS 5, for idevices only. At the same time them where releasing a tablet with a feature that copied from you (because it's a feature that sells products), you where dumping that feature. I'm wondering if you didn't want to sell tablets, but just show off the fact that you can make one if you want.
    Second wrong: connecting to PCs
As far as I've used mildly advanced devices (phones, tablets, even a Palm!) they all connected to my computer as a Massive Storage Device. At least, all of them have the option easily available (with the Palm I had to install a tiny, free, third party program). But not the Playbook. Oh no. It must do it in the most obnoxious way an intelligent (and evil) engineer can create. A virtual USB network adapter? Browse through a virtual shared folder? It's hard to imagine the creative session in which such a devilish idea was devised: “Can you do it more difficult and obscure?” “I can make it connect as a virtual USB network device, but that's too far!” “Do it! mwahahahahaha!”
So, I end up asking myself, Do you hate your users? I see that you are under heavy fire from US tech media, that clearly want you and other players (like Nokia) cold dead. I've read several reviews of your tablet and phones that didn't do justice to neither of them, but you seem to like to offer soft flanks to attacks.
Some times it looks like as YOU don't believe in YOUR OWN platform as to migrate the most basic software, How do you expect third parties to do it? Make all your software (or the most used or otherwise important) available for the Playbook and other developers will follow, no the other way around.
Reading forums and blogs I see some people believe that some of your most bizarre decisions, like the connecting to a PC monstrosity, are based in what CTOs or the like told you for security reasons. Aren't CTOs the ones happily jumping into the BYOD bandwagon because it's cheaper? Those are good clients to please while making all the others curse your ancestors, really a top notch strategic decision.
You know, this era is becoming, in certain aspects, most bottom-up than top-down. Consumer decisions are every year more based in peers than in marketing (with the admirably exception of Apple, which we can discuss other day if you want). And companies aren't in the mood to argue with their userbase, especially if that is more expensive than to let them do what they want (ie. BOYD).
Your users are the ones that uses your devices, not the ones that buys them. That leaves the CTOs and the like as an small subset of users, not the most important. If enough people in the company complains about crappy software and say that they want to use their drois or idevices for free, your CTO it's not going to argue much. And not having a native, preinstalled Twitter client, or having to go through a pain to simply connect the tablet to a PC are the kind of things about which users complain loudly.
Times are changing, so should your bussiness model. Be smart and be quick. Don't be Nokia (Who, by the way now had all their flagship phones gone obsolete in a single press conference by Microsoft. Now MS just needs to delay WP8 a few months to bring Nokia to its knees. A smart move by Nokia, huh?).
Be intelligent Blackberry, sharp your teeth and look what people will want to do with your tablet and phones and make the tablet and phones do that for them. After that, see how you can secure it to CTOs taste, but with user experience fixed in a high standard.
It's a shame to see a giant and innovative company like you struggle against your own incompetence, or the incompetence of a highly positioned moron, not sure about that. It's the same with Nokia, they can't stop shooting their feet.
Do yourself a favor, ask users what they want to do with their tablets, and make your tablets do so.
My apologizes for all the moronic errors with my English, it's not my mother tongue and my proficiency left a lot to be desired.
    Greets,
    Anibal

First, this forum is a peer to peer support community.  While RIM people do look in now and then they don't offer official support here.  It's possible some may read your post, though.
I'm going to see if I can address your main concerns:
Twitter:  There are several apps available in AppWorld.  Personally, I just use the web app supplied and it works just fine.  Additionally, you can download Android apps to your Playbook quite easily.  My favorite place to get them is from here:
    http://goodereader.com/apps/playbook/playbook-android-apps/
BBM:  This service requires a BB data plan via a BlackBerry.  I bridge my PlayBook to my BlackBerry and can use BBM quite easily (though Groups are not yet supported.)
Connecting to PC:  Please download the Desktop Software from www.blackberry.com/desktop
Hopefully, this helps you some.  I much prefer my PlayBook over my iPad any day.  I have taken the time to research on the Internet and figure out how to convert my own Android apps over to PlayBook and it has given me some extra utilization.  It's not hard to do once you get everything set up.
    John

  • App World Availability

Why up to now the app world is not available in oman, ME. As always the regular answer will appear that in future the app world shall be available but now the population of BB users is increasing and we are facing so much difficulties updating or downloading apps without the availability of the app world. We as users of BB in Oman are demanding a real action toward making the app world available at our country.

The availability of AppWorld in Oman (as with other nations) is not totally up to RIM/BlackBerry.
It is a combination of agreement between the mobile operators in Oman and your government as well.
Since RIM is in the business of making money and really has no reason not to provide AppWorld in Oman, perhaps you should be questioning your mobile operators to make it available.
This is a user-to-user community support forum. We are not RIM employees, but volunteers who enjoy assisting other users. RIM personnel rarely comment on queries posted here.

  • Losing android save data on playbook restart

I am currently having trouble with the android player on my playbook. I have some games (like doodle god) that run in the android player, and I've noticed that if I turn my playbook off and on all of my save data is lost. I realize that a temporary solution is just to never turn my playbook off, but that is obviously not a long term solution seeing as how o's updates, screen freezes, etc. would require a restart and would erase my data.
Has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone know of a solution to this problem?
    Thanks

So I've messed around with the android player a bit more and I've noticed a couple other things. First, to see what would happen, I sideloaded a Manga reader (one that is not available in appworld). I noticed that the Manga app downloaded the Manga to the android folder, and every time I open this app (after restarting) it can find that data. Thus, I do not think that there is a problem with folder read/write permissions as far as external data.
Second, I noticed that when I restart my playbook and run an Android apps, one of two things happen. If I ran any android app between my last two restarts, when I open an android app it says initializing for about half a second and then freezes on a black screen until I close the android player. If I did not run any android app since mast restart and then I restart, when I open an android app the screen says "initializing" for a couple seconds, then I see the blue animated bb logo, then the android player has a loading screen.

  • Unable to Restore BB Software after OS Upgrade

Hi. I am unable to restore several programs (PWKeeper, BBM, BBTraffic, Memo, Tasks, Maps) after a wipe and OS upgrade.  I backed up the phone prior to the wipe but did not turn off wireless sync. Learning now that I should have.  I have deleted desktop sync service book, rebooted, tried to restore. No success. Even reinstalled OS.  Is there combo-keys to enter on phone that turns off wireless sync prior to restore?  DM is not allowing me to restore these apps.  9850 Storm. Thx for help.

Oh......BBSAK for this...got'ca. I'd not assumed you were using that methodology. You probably need to do some research on BBSAK.ORG as to this...there likely are posts on their own site dealing with the issue. As I recall, it's not guaranteed to be 100% perfect...but I don't recall much more than that as I prefer, whenever I update my BB OS, to reinstall all of my apps from scratch...just to be most sure that things are truly "clean". It is also possible that the apps you are trying to restore aren't compatible with the precise OS level you have updated to (with the apps you listed, this may actually be a high probability since those apps are normally included with the OS package itself).
Since the apps you listed are provided along with the OS package, then the normal method of installing them from the Desktop Software should indeed work...odd that they are greyed out for you there. FYI...those apps normally aren't part of any Desktop Software backup per se...data from them and/or configuration settings about them may well be included in the databases, but nor normally the apps themselves per se.
I suppose what I'd recommend is skipping the BBSAK app backup for anything that is included within the BB OS package itself (in the list you provided, all are part of the OS package, though BBM likely will have an update available from AppWorld). Then, again use BBSAK to perform another wipe/reload of your desired OS, but during the OS loading selections make sure that the apps you listed are selected to be loaded to your BB while it loads the OS (as opposed to trying to add them later).
Then, the 3rd party app restore from BBSAK may well work for the other apps you backed up with it...or you can reacquire them from their original sources (AppWorld, etc.) and perform a clean install of them all.
An odd situation you indeed have, but I'm sure there's a way to get you going again.
Good luck and let us know!

  • Blackberry world issue for iran

there is a restriction that country like us can't use blackberry services,
i'm in city of south of iran that UAE carriers works in my city but under the antenna of our country.
could i use the UAE SIM to download from blackberry world?
right now i use android version and it's a little laggy ,
blackberry original softwares or apps has a great performance,
you could have many customers from iran and make really more money by ignoring the restriction.
and why your company boycott us?
    what is the reason?

  • E-book downloads

I have been trying to download e books from sights other than Kobo. Does anyone know how to accomplish this?
Other than reading them in the cloud?

The two best e-readers available in appWorld are
Book Reader (reads epub and mobi) and PlayEPub (reads epub)
There is also a text reader call freeBook Reader (reads txt).
Each has it's own quirks and some books render better on one or the other.
(None of these can read ebooks with DMR)
The best archive for freeware books from online libraries is
    http://archive.org
When you download the files they will go into the PB's 'download' directory. Each of the above readers can find the files. I prefer to move them to a documents directory and sort them on my PC using the PB's z: directory

  • Transitions on blackberry curve 8520

    Hi All,
I have an Blackberry Curve 8520 and I would like to know if it has any transitions?
By transitions I mean when you quit an app, it will like zoom out smoothly, i have seen this on my friends curve 9360.
If i quit an app on the curve 8520, it will just close it, so its quite boring
Its quite hard to explain but I hope that you lot understand what i mean
    Thanks
    Curvee123

Hello and welcome to the Community!
I also would want to have good screen transitions of course but the phones you mentioned have different UI or User Interfaces. Blackberry Curve 9360 runs on OS7 and the processor is 800Mhz so it may be pretty much smoother than the 8520 that runs on OS5 with 512Mhz processor. You may wanna check for themes available on Appworld for better UI but to set the proper expectations, the phone may not run as smooth as how you want it to be.
    Goodluck and Enjoy!

You might want to try SimpleBrowser available in AppWorld.  It's free.  It has a few User Agents (which tells the website what kind of browser you're using) and allows you to make your own Custom User Agent.  You can search of "internet explorer user agent" to find some examples.
