Availability of HTML5 Live streaming tools on Snow Leopard

I'm looking to stream video as part of my class offerings at the University that I teach at. The Tech Services at our university currently only provides a flash based streaming service, but a large number of my students have iPhones/iPads/etc. I want to add an HTTP5 Live Streaming option.
According to the article at:
http://developer.apple.com/iphone/library/documentation/NetworkingInternet/Conce ptual/StreamingMediaGuide/UsingHTTPLiveStreaming/UsingHTTPLiveStreaming.html#//a pple_ref/doc/uid/TP40008332-CH102-SW1
the tool filestreamsegmenter is supposed to available in the default install of Snow Leopard. I bought the retail box upgrade of snow leopard (my Macbook Pro came with Leopard/10.5). I don't seem to have the file. I also checked the linkes on connect.apple.com mentioned in the article, but they don't seem to be available there. Do I have to buy an iPhone developer membership just to get the tools in order to add HTML5 live streaming to my class website? I hope not..
Tom

I'm having same problem. The tool is neither in the local dir, not in downloads.

  • Where are HTTP Live Streaming Tools

I am trying to install mediastreamvalidator, mediastreamsegmenter, mediafilesegmenter tools for my mac machine version 10.6.8
As mentioned in this link about downloading required tools
    http://developer.apple.com/library/mac/#documentation/NetworkingInternet/Concept ual/StreamingMediaGuide/UsingHTTPLiveStreaming/UsingHTTPLiveStreaming.html
    As above artical says:
"The tools are frequently updated, so you should download the current version of the HTTP Live Streaming Tools from the Apple Developer website. You can access them if you are a member of the iPhone Developer Program. One way to navigate to the tools is to log onto connect.apple.com, then click iPhone under the Downloads heading."
After logging in to site connect.apple.com under download heading there is no tab named iPhone, i am unable to find this link.
If these tools are stored else where can some one please provide me the updated link?
I need these command lines for developing HLS serve.
    Thanks

You need an iPhone Developer Account to download ... if you can't see the link then you don't have access or aren't logged in.

  • Does anyone know a way to stream audio from Snow Leopard to a PPC running Panther?

I have recently aquired a iMac PPC, I've freshly installed Panther on it and it runs a treat. I was wondering however if there is a way to stream audio from my main Desktop, a 2007 iMac running Snow Leopard. iTunes library share isn't a solution either as I use Spotify a my main source of music and unfortunetly it is no longer supported for PPC's.
    Thanks, Tim

Unfortunately I could get neither of these to work, probably because of my own ineptitude.
I couldn't get VLC to output from Spotify, this could be my own fault.
I also couldn't make Airplay play with OS X 10.3.9.
I did however find a messy workaround.
I am currently using Airfoil on my main Desktop to output Spotify and then am receiving it on Airfoil Speaker on my iPhone, which is in turn connected to my 10.3.9 iMacs audio input via a 3.5mm Jack.
You need to download an app called LineIn for 10.3 (http://www.rogueamoeba.com/legacy/) to play the sound from the input from the built in speakers.
To be fair it's not that messy it just requires you to have a device that can have Airfoil Speakers installed on it and have a 3.5mm Jack.

  • Crop tool and Snow Leopard?

Have installed Snow Leopard and now the Photoshop CS3 crop tool doesn't do what it should. It used to move the bottom right corner of a dotted rectangle but now it drifts away from the rectangle altogether and I cannot define the area to be cropped. Can anyone please help?

Hi everybody.  Only minutes later I discovered that I could "reset tool" and, having done that, all is back to normal. Sorry for not realising that earlier.

  • Sound issues while streaming after installing Snow Leopard

    Oh please help!
I have sound issues now that I've installed the upgrad of Snow Leopard (from Leopard) onto my Macbook. I have also installed the upgrade online.
    This is the deal ...
I work online (Ethernet ... no WIFI) and stream video and audio, before the upgrad everything was fine, now the sound fades in and out and the video will freeze up for a second or two. I do have several options on the site that I work from as to what 'Quality' I wish to stream from. These options range from
    56 fastest (modem) ... 126 Fastest (ISDN) ... 256 Fastest (DSL) ... Higest Cable, T1 ... 640x480 DH Cable, T1 and also External Encoding (which I don't use).
Skype works perfectly even after the upgrade.
I'm at al loss and need some help!
    Thank fellow Appleites.

    Thanks for the reply!
Where could I find this cache? In /Library/Cache or ~/Library/Cache? Using something like Onyx (beta 4 for Snow Leopard) would help out?
I have to go to this person's office in a couple of hours, if this could fix the problem it would be very nice, because last night I was thinking I would have to...

  • Disk Management for RTMP live streams

    Hello,
Can anyone tell me if there is anything similar to DiskManagement functionality (available for HTTP streams) available to RTMP live streams in AMS?
I'm having trouble with INDEX files that are being created for the live+DVR streams (we are serving 24/7 streaming), even though I delete RAW DVR files which are old, INDEX files constantly grow and FMS crashes CPU after few days.
    Any suggestions are appreciated.

    Hi,
The methods that are mentioned as missing as expected by FMLE as it makes calls to them. They are defined in the sample live application that comes with the installation. The code for these can be picked up from the samples folder under the FMS installation from the application live. You can add these in all of your server side scripts to make them more relevant.
    Thank you !

  • How can I upgrade from Tiger to Snow Leopard wihout violating EULA while Mac Box Set is no longer available?

I use my original Tiger bought with MacBook Pro. But now so many applications do not support Tiger, so I decided to upgrade to SL.
But required by Apple way to do this with Mac Box Set seems to be impossible. Mac Box Set is no longer available from Apple.
Is upgrading using Snow Leopard disc, which is still in Apple Store, ok?
I will be gratefull for help.

The Mac Box Set includes Mac OS X Snow Leopard, iLife ’09 and iWork ’09. If you just use the SL installer, you don't get the additional apps.

The Snow Leopard box set is no longer available at the Apple Store but may be available by calling Apple Phone Sales @ 1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753). You may also find a box set on eBay.
It's possible that some of your current apps may not work in Snow Leopard. You can check here: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Application Compatibility List at http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/

  • Flash Video and Snow Leopard

After being able to watch live streaming flash video with Leopard these same live streams no longer work with Snow Leopard
    http://www.hancockwildlife.org/index.php?topic=cam-sites
Is there a fix ? Do have Adobe Flashplayer 10 installed as well and it still no luck.

They're working for me with Snow Leopard, so it's not a problem that affects every SL user, at any rate.
What web browser are you using? Are you able to successfully get Flash to work on Adobe's test page?

  • Do I have to get a hard copy of Snow Leopard for my iMac if I already have it for my MacBook?

I have Leopard on my iMac, and Snow Leopard on my MacBook (both with all available updates)~I tried to use the Snow Leopard Install DVD from the MacBook to upgrade the iMac, but it said "Mac OS X 10.6 cannot be installed on this computer."  Why???  Do I have to get a hard copy of Snow Leopard for my iMac?  Are there different upgrades for the iMac vs. MacBook?
I think I understand that once I have both computers on Snow Leopard, the Lion upgrade would be ONE upgrade for BOTH computers {I'm guessing I would need the client version for at home use}.  Also, once Lion was on one computer, would I just go into the Mac App store on the other one and download the upgrade on the other one?  But no additional fee would be charged?  Lastly, I read about the combo option that includes all updates to Lion since it's release~would that be the main Lion upgrade on the Mac App or would I have to search for it?
    Thanks for your help!

The disc you used would have been the install disc that came with your Mac. These can only be used on that as they are made for that specific model.
Make sure your machine meets requirements
Macs with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Intel Core i3, Intel Core i5, Intel Core i7, or Xeon processor.)
    At least 2GB of RAM
Mac OS X 10.6.6 or later (Mac OS X 10.6.8 is recommended)
7 GB of free hard drive space is recommended
Once you've purchased it would be a good idea to create a bootable DVD or USB

But you can also go into the purchased section and download again

  • Aperture 3.3 for Lion, but... how to install 3.2.4 for Snow Leopard?

New version Aperture (3.3) is not available on Snow Leopard (only Lion). Ok... but how to buy/reinstall Aperture 3.2.4 on my Mac of Snow Leopard?

You still  might be able to buy a boxed version of Aperture 3 at a local Apple store, but that will be much more expensive than the download from the App Store.
Since you cannot upgrade your machine to Lion, I'd stick with iPhoto, until you will invest into a new computer.  iPhoto libraries now can be opened by Aperture, so any work you invest into an iPhoto library will not be lost, once you transit.
No, I dont' want iPhoto. I need Aperture 3. It was available in the Mac App Store for Snow Leopard for a good price. At this moment I feel just cheated. Many people have a problem now - they have bought and can not update / reinstall. I can not buy. It should not be so. I'm sorry for my english.

  • Upgrade from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion?

I have a Black Macbook (October 2008, so coming up for 4 years old). It has 4G RAM and loads of available disk space. Currently running latest Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I want to upgrade OSX but I get the message "Mountain Lion is not compatible with this computer". This is a good machine and I have kept it up to date so what do I need to do to get it to ML so that I can use iCloud? I used to have MobileMe but of course it's now defunct. Thanks.

Even though you have a "late" 2008 macbook it was probably manufactured some time before and therefore will not run ML. However it should run Lion which will give you access to iCloud. You will need to contact Apple Sales: 1-800-My-Apple to purchase. They will give you a link to download Lion.

  • Will iMac running Snow Leopard support an iPad2 running io8?

I have been using a USB cable to sync my wife's iPhone5 and my iPad2 with my iMac running Snow Leopard. (It's a 1st gen Intel iMac and I can't go any farther with OSX versions.) Until this week, I have never had a problem syncing our devices with the iMac. However, when I went to hook up the iPad, it forced me to download a software update for ios7. Looked like everything was fine, though slow in downloading, when I got received an error message (unknown error) that crashed the iPad.
MY only option at that point was to perform a Restore and Update from the backup on my iMac, which I did. However, the update forced ios8 onto my iPad and wiped out all downloaded photos, music, apps and books. When I go to sync the iPad, all of the settings on iTunes look correct, but the sync button is greyed out and I am not able to download any of the aforementioned files from the iMac to my iPad.
Help! Is there something I can do to fix this without having to schlep into an Apple Store, where I will be made to feel technologically stupid and inferior by a Genius? Or is the problem that my iMac running Snow Leopard can no longer support the devices running iOs8?

You could've backed up your iPad prior to the "forced" upgrade which, by the way, you could have cancelled. iTunes doesn't upgrade your iPad, automatically, on its own. You had to click the Upgrade button to initiate the upgrade. You didn't have to do anything with that button. You can just leave it be.
iOS 8 is garbage on iPad 2 and 3 and even though iTunes keeps giving me the Update button option, I continually choose to ignore it.
Ignoring the Upgrade/Update button doesn't affect the normal iTunes/iDevice syncing/backing up operations.
You could've just left that button alone.
When was the last time you backed up your iPad?
While there is no way way to revert to a previous iOS version once you upgrade your iDevices iOS, iTunes saves multiple backups of your iDevice and if you backed up your iPad previously to this latest activity, you should be able to restore your iPad from an older  backup that should appear by date when  you plug your iDevice into your Mac, was for iTunes to launch and sync your iPad, then cancel the backup in progress and use the Restore function in iTunes to restore your iDevice from another previous backup version date.
If your current version of iTunes doesn't recognize your iPad2 under iOS 8, you need to check the iTunes update feature, in iTunes or in OS X Software Update feature in OS X Preferences panel to see if there is a iTunes update available for OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.

It may be that Apple will issue another security update for 10.6, but no one should be thinking that, because it's still being sold or because it's the gateway to the App Store, or that its user base is still around 19%, it will necessarily continue to be supported.
If that is the case, time for Apple to increase its liability insurance or hire better lawyers!

    Right now, it remains vulnerable.
First you say "...vulnerabilities may be present..." and then you say "... it remains vulnerable."  Guess that covers 100% of the possibilities, but does not really do much other than to confuse current Snow Leopard users.

We have never been in the situation before where, for example, a portal to the App Store was only available in one version of OS X (Snow Leopard) and you cannot obtain a later version of OS X without access to the earlier version of OS X (Snow Leopard).  Once that situation is changed, Apple can abandon updates to Snow Leopard.

    Hello,
Anyone knows how to activate in Safari the 3 fingers scroll up/down available in Firefox? I am using Snow Leopard.

    HI,
*"I understand that this has to do with FlashPlayer plugin for Safari (btw, mine is the latest 10.0.32). Why wasn't this happening in 10.5? Is it because Safari is running in 64-bit mode? "*
    Run Safari in 32-bit mode.
Right or control click the Safari icon in the Applications folder, then click Get Info.
In the Get Info window click the black disclosure triangle where you see: General
Select: Open in 32-bit mode and close the Get Info window and restart your Mac.
Sometimes uninstalling and reinstalling a *fresh copy* of the Flash player plugin helps.

As with any software installation, repair disk permissions...
Quit any open applications/programs. Launch Disk Utility. (Applications/Utilities) Select MacintoshHD in the panel on the left, select the FirstAid tab. Click: Repair Disk Permissions. When it's finished from the Menu Bar, Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac. If you see a long list of "messages" in the permissions window, it's ok. That can be ignored. As long as you see, "Permissions Repair Complete" when it's finished... you're done. Quit Disk Utility and restart your Mac.
