Available resource monitoring tools

Hi,
Hi I'm evaluating my option to monitor resource utilisation by domains. The categories I'm interested in are CPU, Mem, Disc and I/O utilisation. What monitoring tools exist? Searching the web, I've seen Without having access to an oracle server, yet, the resource categories of sample output of 'xm list' I've seen so far only contained CPU and mem utilisation but not any I/O (disk or net). Is this correct? And what options have I got to monitor these resources as finely as possible?
Best regards and thanks for your help

Would you like to perform the monitoring from control domain or guest domains? If you do the monitoring inside guest domain, then I guess you can use SNMP tools for the job. I've used Orca and SEtoolkit inside guest domains (they don't use SNMP) but they are a bit outdated for that use. You might also take a look at Zabbix.
I don't know what tools exists for collecting information from control domain (which would require less work and less installed clients etc.). Maybe some custom scripting with SNMP.

  • Best monitoring tool

Well here we are, my application is ready for distribution,
now i would like to know what is the best free monitoring
    tool for a coldfusion server?
I found the metrics data in the coldfusion server, but i
would like to have some more monitoring information for my
    resources, db load etc.
    any ideas?

Regarding performance monitoring on your CF-server, are you
    running a multi-server configuration?
If not, you can use the performance monitoring mechanism
built into CFMX. Simply log into the CF-Administrator, and under
"Debugging Settings", you'll find a checkbox waaaaay down at the
bottom of the page which reads "Enable Performance Monitoring".
Turn that on. What it actually does is tie directly into the
Windows (NT) built-in performance monitor reporting tool.
(This of course assumes you're hosting your CF-server on a
WIndows box - which most people do)
However, if you're running in a multi-server configuration,
this performance monitoring option is no longer available to you I
believe. Bruce Purcell has some good notes on the topic of
performance monitoring on his blog here:
    http://www.bpurcell.org/blog/index.cfm?mode=entry&ENTRY=967
Personally, I've found the JRun Metrics service to be
invaluable. It is one of the only built-in options for performance
monitoring that ColdFusion offers for a multi-server environment as
    far as I know.
Regarding your DB server, that is an entirely different topic
(unrelated to ColdFusion). You should contact your DBMS vendor for
    more information on that.

  • UCS Blade Utilization / Performance Monitoring Tools?

An unnamed software system vendor from whom we have purchased product was not ready to support their product in a virtualized platform environment. But we are a Cisco UCS shop. So we added a chassis, put four blades in it, and let the vendor install and configure their product across the four blades. I am not satisfied with the performance of their application, and have doubts that it is actually using the resources of all four blades. And I have no idea how to see the utilization of CPU Mhz or memory or even the blade-to-blade communication that one would expect the software system's clustering to implement.
NetApp has a great tool in OnCommand System Manager for monitoring the storage system performance. vSphere does a nice job with vSphere Client for datacenter hosts and the guests defined therein. But these blades are used as individual Linux servers....I'm looking for a way to get a view of how the application is using these compute resources.
Is anyone aware of a useful performance dashboarding tool available for monitoring the performance of blades in a UCS chassis?

    A couple of answers:
ESXi hosts are monitored using a connection to vSphere, not directly to each ESXi host. By connecting to vSphere, UCS PM is able to track VMs as they vMotion from host to host. vSphere versions supported are 4.1, 5.0, 5.1.
    Microsoft Servers are monitored using the WinRM protocol. Supported versions include 2003, 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, and 2012 R2. Hyper-V is supported on 2008, 2008 R2, 2012, and 2012 R2.
UCS PM is a performance and capacity monitoring product for people running UCS-based integrated infrastructures. That means it covers OS, virtualization, UCS compute, storage, and a focused set of network devices.
DCNM helps people implement, visualize, and manage a UCS Unified Fabric. It works with a really broad range of network devices.
You might well want both products. It depends on what you're trying to do!
In general UCS PM is licensed by the server, where all servers in a domain must be covered. There's one version just for the UCS fabric and one that covers all the integrated infrastructure components.
Perhaps a Cisco employee can respond on pricing.

  • Windows Randomly Freezes when Resource Monitor Disk Highest Active Time Maxed Out

I'm getting this same problem as this person:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itproperf/thread/4e33c8d9-fc3d-434b-8dd0-29965d1aa0a2
Except that it seems to happen at random.  While playing a game, browsing the net or when it's just sitting idle.
Hard drive light goes solid, the blue line (% highest active time) in the resource monitor disk graph stays peaked at 100% but
relatively little or no hard disk activity.
My mouse is also usually still responsive.
Some apps will continue to work, but if I click on them they will usually become unresponsive, same goes if I attempt to click on the Windows Start button.  If I'm playing a game, it will stutter or freeze and a .5-1 second sound clip will continuously loop
until it's done (meaning the hard drive light is no longer solid and blue line is no longer peaking).
It is also the same for me that occasionally the OS will freeze completely and I will need to hold down the power button to reboot, but this is usually more rare.
I've checked the Event Viewer and there are no errors that coincide with the problem.
I've run chkdsk and no errors were returned.  Same when I ran Memtest86+ to check RAM, no errors.
    My stats are:

    Hi,
How about updating the BIOS and all devices' driver from the manufacture's site?
I suspect it is the task schedule running in the background. If you want to narrow down the issue, you may need some monitor tools and then analyze.
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896645
To analyze the process, it is better to contact Microsoft Customer Service and Support (CSS) via telephone to get more efficient support.

  • Performance monitoring tool for Essbase

Currently we are using Zabbix to monitor the resource usage of Essbase database (CPU, memory, disk IO, etc).
We would like to know is there are any other web based monitoring tools that can monitor down to process level. The existing Windows performance monitor is relatively complex and also lack of web based interface for administrator to monitor the processes easily.
We are also looking at Quest Spotlight for Windows but not yet fully explored its capability. We would like to know if there are other choices used by other Essbase administrators.
    Thanks in advance.

  • Oracle EPM 11.1.2.1 Monitoring tools

    Gurus,
could you please let me know what are the available system monitoring or performance monitoring tools for oracle EPM 11.1.2.1 or in case licenses are involved what are the best key areas for manual procedures to monitor the system?
    Many thanks !

    Hello,
Monitoring is a broad term. There are many 3rd party tools available that can provide monitoring, it all depends on what exactly you're looking for.
Oracle has a document on setting up Oracle Enterprise Manager to monitor Hyperion Applications: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bi-foundation/sys9-oem-integration-1-129287.pdf. For performance monitoring, you can also look at this: https://blogs.oracle.com/pa/entry/epm_11_1_2_how3. This will basically connect to the JRockit JVM and look at the performance for the web application.
If you want to do more monitoring (services, servers, processor, CPU), you can look into Hyperic HQ: http://www.hyperic.com/. They have both an open source version and an enterprise version. I've used the open source version myself and it is pretty good and plays well with Windows. You can see many metrics, graphics and information via the web based application. You can also setup email alerts on certain activities (service stop, service start) and also monitor website availability. For being an open source software, I think it offers alot and it is very reliable.
Again, these are just a few suggestions. There are many tools out there that can accomplish what you're looking for.

    Luis

  • Excel cannot complete this task with available resources

    Hello all,
I am having a puzzling problem with some Excel 2010 users.
One person in Finance is having problems with excel in general, the others are having problems with a specific spreadsheet.
The specific spreadsheet is very large, 250mb, and contains a lot of data. They're trying to update a specific pivot table within this sheet but every time they try to refresh the data they get the message "Excel cannot complete this task with available
resources". I have also replicated the problem on my PC.
All PC's have 4GB of RAM available. I closed all programs, opened the sheet again, refreshed the pivot table and still received the same error.
Now, one person in the department was able to open the sheet, refresh the pivot table and save it with no problems. They have the same spec machine as the others in the Finance department.
All users have rebooted their machines, I've checked the server where the saved files sit to make sure there are no problems, I've asked them to check all data sources within the spreadsheet, watched RAM usage during the operation and while it is high, it
doesn't max out. Before finding out that one person can open it, I thought it could be that the file had become corrupted in some way.
It's very puzzling as I cannot see any logical reason why four people cannot use this sheet but one can. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi
    MrBeardyDrummer,
Since you got the error message "Excel cannot complete this task with available resources. Choose less data or close other applications."

    Hi All,
Is there any monitoring tool which is able to monitor various technologies .
we are integrating biztalk with SAP and we are looking for a tool which we can use to monitor both, is there any?
    Praj Dixit
If if want just to monitor various technologies, lets say BizTalk, then there are lot of tools available for this. BizTalk 360 and SCOM are two main tools.
similarly if you want to monitor SAP- like availbility of SAP services/URLS/Databases etc, then HP OpenView can be one option.
However, if you just want to make sure your business process ( integrated BizTalk/SAP..etc) are up and running then you could write some Automated Smoke test scripts, which will perform some basic testing and make sure all components are up and running.
    Hope this helps.

  • New monitoring tool for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1 SP2 & higher

Did you know that there is a new monitoring tool available for SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 3.1?
It produces reports that summarise the SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise system landscape and its configuration, helps out with troubleshooting issues and points out areas of concern.
It also delivers a lot of help with troubleshooting issues via Wily Introscope monitoring dashboards, an 'investigator' and transaction tracing.

  • Which Performance Monitoring Tool is good for Weblogic?

Please advise me on good performance monitoring software. Budget is no issue.
A typical performance monitoring tool has:
    Server monitoring
    Application server monitoring
    Database monitoring
    Web services monitoring
    Virtualization monitoring
An example is ManageEngine's Applications Manager
    currenty, I want to monitor:
    1 - BEA Weblogic server 8.1
    2 - Oracle 9i Rel 2
Once I can identify the bottlenecks, recommendation for hardware / software upgrade can be made easily.
    Thanks.

Thanks Faisal, I will evaluate this product if full functional trial version is available.
so far I have come to know about these tools:
    Applications Manager
    up.time
Still not sure which one brings more value to the business.

  • Problem launching Resource planning tool

    Hi all,
I have some problem in launching the resouce planning tool,T-Code:CRM_DWP.
We have a freshly installed CRM 5.0 sytem,It is throwing me the following errors:
<b>1)Internal error in Business Object Layer, method: GET_TIMESPEC_TYPES</b>
<b>2)Serious internal error occurred that cannot be described in more detail</b>
Are there any pre requisite settings that are required before launching this tool?
please provide directions to solve this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sethu.

    Hi Vick,
If you want to use service resource planning tool, you basically have to
    decide the following:
    1.   Whether you want to use SAP's Scheduling Engine (WFM Core), or an
           external scheduling engine.
    2.   Whether or not you want to work with SAP R/3 HR integration. HR
integration in this context means that employee data from the SAP
R/3 HR component is transferred to SAP CRM using ALE. The
availability information is transferred either to the WFM Core, or
           to the external scheduling engine.
You can not use resource planning tool without  WFM Core, which is the scheduling engine for RPT
The scheduling engine can be any thing SAP's WFM core or External Sceduling engine(Non-SAP).
Let us assume that you are going with WFM Core. Again WFM core can be used in two ways.
    1. If you want to use the WFM Core in an APO system, you have to set up a  RFC   connection to the WFM Core
    2. If you want to use the WFM Core in a SAP CRM add-on, you have to leave the relevant field empty in 'Select RFC Connection'. (This Customizing setting i have already mentioned in my last posting)
Once you have decided whether you want to use WFM core either with APO system or as a CRM add-on then you need to decide on R/3 HR Integration.
    1. Without SAP R/3 HR Integration
If you do not use HR integration, use the 'CRM_LRP_FILL_RES' report to
transfer the service employees, which are stored in the system in the
role 'Employee', from SAP CRM to the WFM Core.
    2. With SAP R/3 HR Integration
If you do use HR integration, employee data and availability information
is transferred from the HR system to the WFM Core using the 'RPTWFMIF'
    report.
So finally after setting up all these things related WFM core you can run your resource planning tool. There is no RPT without WFM core.
Before doing all these you ned to install Software component 'WFMCORE'  with version 2.0 which comes along with CRM installation DVD.
Still if you have any doubt please reply to this post.
Please reward points if it helps.
