Available slots?
I am aware that the 15-in PB comes with 512 MB of RAM.
Is that removable RAM, or is it wired to the Logic Board? If I purchase RAM from Apple (online store), and I get the 2x512MB chips of RAM, am I out of room for putting in more RAM?
I'm trying to come up with the cheapest way of getting at least a gig of RAM into the 15-in PB I plan on buying, so any help is appreciated.
"Is that removable RAM"
yes
"If I purchase RAM from Apple (online store), and I get the 2x512MB chips of RAM, am I out of room for putting in more RAM?"
Yes. There's only 2 slots.
"'m trying to come up with the cheapest way"
Then don't buy RAM from Apple. Search ramseeker.com for cheap prices from reputable dealers.

Java servlet to check availability of time slots for booking meeting
I am keeping two time stamps into a table ie start time and end date.Start date and end date should be greater than present system date.In a java servlet i am linking and comparing the time stamps that entered through availability checking form.Availability check form , a jsp ,will take the start time and end time .After pressing the search button it will yield the available slots for choosing to book. Can you please suggest me how can i implement the logic.I have tried to use vector to store the slot info but resulted in error .
Well, at the minimum you will need a Booking object. It will at a minimum have start and end as Date variables. You probably will also want another Date called bookedOn (or something similar) or use a boolean to indicate that the slot is no longer available.
You will have to write a SQL query that will use the start and end dates the form supplies for time slots that match these criteria (and likely bookedOn values not equal to null). Your DAO will populate a series of Booking objects based on the query results.
When the user selects a given slot, populate the bookedOn date or the boolean flag indicating the time slot is now taken.
Without more requirements or where you are stuck, it's hard to help beyond that.

Memory Slots on 15" Powerbook?
I have a 15" Powerbook (1.25 mhz). According to the System Profiler there are 2 256 of ram sticks for a total of 512 mb of ram. Are there two available slots on this machine so if I want to upgrade the memory I'd have to take out one of the ram sticks?
Finally, any recommendations on where to buy a ram upgrade (cheapest)?
Thanks!Hi DH --
Yup, you've got two memory slots, each of which can hold 1GB of RAM, for atotal of 2GB RAM. You'd have to remove one of your 256MBs to replace it it with something larger.
My advice (and that of many others) is not to go for the cheapest RAM, necessarily, but rather with RAM that's know to work with PowerBooks, as they can particular about the RAM the work well with.
I've seen crucial.com recommended highly here, and I personally like the Samsung memory used by Apple in its factory offered by OWC: http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/add/6205/OWC27SAMSO1GB/
Wherever you end up getting your RAM, make sure you get a lifetime warranty in case it ever fails so you can repalce it gratis, and also make sure the dealer's reputable and will around should you need to avail yourself of that warranty.
Good luck!

Creating fixed slots in calendar
I have 3 meeting rooms available to be reserved in the same slots. Using Outlook 2013, I would like to create a frame schedule for each of the rooms, with the available slots
(for instance, a half an hour window), which are then used by executive assistants to reserve this rooms. I don't want them to create new events, just fulfill the available slots. How can I do this? I know I can create a different calendar for
each of the rooms, but I can’t figure out how to create the fixed daily slots for each, which will then fulfilled by the executive assistants. I thought the resources function could be a possibility, but I couldn’t find it in the Outlook 2103 – is
it only available with Exchange?Hi,
As per the description, I understand that you'd like to create
Pre-defined Time Slots for each room.
As far as I know, we cannot achieve this with any Outlook 2013 built-in features/settings, and
Resource Mailboxes cannot be managed on Outlook client side. Probably, you might want to post your question in the forum of
Exchange server to get more experienced responses:

Is there a fingerprint reader available to work with iPad and iPhone?
I need to use fingerprint confirmation with iPhone and iPad. Are such devices available, either bluetooth or connected to available slots?
JanYes I am using the backing track with the chart that has the melody on it. I am able to use the backing track/iReal Pro while viewing it's corresponding chart in iGigBook so I have no need to associate a music format with that chart. My desire in switching between the two programs is to be able to view the iReal Pro after playing through the melody line once or twice using the iGigBook program (once back in the iReal Pro program I am able to keep track of the progress of the backing track) and then going back to the iGigBook chart to end the piece/last time through the head etc.

Maximum Number of RAM Slots - Lenovo G580
Hi,
So the Lenovo G580 solution center claims the MAX support is 32gb, 4 slots 1 in use. Leaving 3 available. So I bought 8gb 2*4gB from Crucial. Should arrive today or tomorrow.
Anyway, Crucial scanner - I didn't notice before - claims that my laptop can only support 16gb.. and the available slots are 16gB.
Not sure if this is a joke or something as I could have just bought a single 8gb RAM stick. I checked the G580 manual and it appears to only have 2 slots. So is Lenovo's Solution center software buggy (or was it made for a desktop - that could explain it)?
Or can anyone confirm that my laptop does indeed support 32gb. I would like to think so, it'd be rather wrong if a third party software is more correct than Lenovo's software. Specs

Thanks. You can easily open the bottom and look... to verify only two slots.Download little Speccy program www.speccy.com simple .. it will show you whats there. Processor says 16gb http://ark.intel.com/products/53442/Intel-Core-i3-2370M-Processor-3M-Cache-2_40-GHz crucial will have the right info .. always.. in my experiences.you cant install 8gb and 4gb, you need to match chip sizes on the memory cards that will pair up to effectively double the chip size via the bus/wires and give you dual channel memory then. If you came with only one memory module installed youre running single channel now. half the potential bandwidth of like 10gb/s where dual will be 20gb/s. Crucial should let you return your order for exchange.. and add some money for a pair of 8gb.

AGP Graphics card covers pci slot 2 & Problems with sound card
I have already posted this on another part of the forum.
Hi i have an M Audio Delta192 Audiophile soundcard which is not working fully
i have been on the phone to the M Audio technical support about this
my problem is apparently i need to put the pci Soundcard card into the first slot after my graphics card which would be slot no 2
my graphics card has a fan on top which covers pci slot no 2 so the next available slot is slot 3 which is where i have my soundcard now
a lot of the functions available are greyed out in the M Audio Delta control panel this is the software used to control the parameters of the soundcard
is this right do i have to install my Soundcard in slot no 2 for it to work correctly
if so is there any way around this
my graphics card is a ATI Radeon 9800 XT
if there is no way around this are there any agp cards that i can get that dont have a great big fan on top that covers pci slot 2 that are good quality & can run 2 monitors
i cant seem to find anyHi J D Knight
I'm Pretty sure it is this is what it has under my system profiler
ATI Radeon 9800 XT:
Chipset Model: ATY,R360
Type: Display
Bus: AGP
Slot: SLOT-1
VRAM (Total): 256 MB
Vendor: ATI (0x1002)
Device ID: 0x4e48
Revision ID: 0x0000
ROM Revision: 113-A14404-123
this was the graphics card installed when i bought the powermac
i understand the reasons for the fan as i am led to believe it is a powerfull card
but my main use is for audio is it true about the pci slots do i need to have my soundcard in slot 2 as M-Audio have told me if so then i do need to change my graphics card so i can get my soundcard working as it should
the only thing i need is my dual screens -

First of all, i would like to thanks to all the MSI users that read this and hope that some of you could help me my question.
as we all know, this mobo got 3 dimm slot (2 purple and 1 green). my question is, can is use all 3 dimm at one time?
rite now i have 2 stick of 256 Kingston PC 2700. if i want to buy another stick and put it in the other available slot,
- which type of ram can i use. must it be the same Kingston (333MHz) with the same ram size (256MB) or
- must it be 512MB.. or
- can it be others speed (like ddr400)
- or others type of ram like Apacer, corsair etc....
Thanks in advance. hope there is some one who can help me with this. Thanks againQuote from: Frankenputer on 07-April-05, 00:24:31
HUH? 2 x 256 and 1 512? 3 sticks? I don't believe that would be dual channel. You need paired sticks of the same size, speed, makeup to run in dual channel as far as I know. You could run your 2 sticks of 256 in dual channel if you put one in 1st slot and the other in the 3rd, or you can get 2 sticks of 512, one in the 1st and the other in the 3rd slot, to get a full gig in dual channel.
If you get a 512 and place it in the 3rd slot and have your two 256s in the other 2 slots, they'll be running in single-channel mode. At least, that's my understanding.
Yes, Wonka is correct it will run in dual in that configuration!

My MBP (2010) won’t start up properly; when it turns on the screen doesn't load (the screen is black) and it gives off beeps indicating a RAM error. I took it to the computer tech at my school, and she said that the RAM slot was defective. She said could fix this by removing the RAM slot and placing my RAM in the other available slot.
My questions: is removing a faulty RAM slot feasible? Can the faulty slot be fixed under warranty?
Thanks for your help .How did this work out? I've just been told that my MBP I bought October 20th, 2010 has bad RAM slots.
Of course, this requires a total logic board replacement for $700!
This machine is less than 14 months old. Used sparingly. I don't understand how this could be.
Anybody have any suggestions?

How many Apps can i have on my iPod Touch, is there a limit?
Is there a limit on how many Apps i can have on my iPod Touch?
Thanks in advance. Thanks a lot, that was very helpful.
I am pretty sure that there's 16 Apps per page,
so...16 X 9 = 144 - 13 pre installed Apps.
131 total available (slots) for Apps. -
FCP unable to Capture Canon GL2
Hello -
My system is noted below. Final Cut Pro is updated to 6.0.4.
I am unable to capture the video using Canon's GL2 using the current version of FCP. I believe that I have everything configured correctly because I am able to capture audio and video using my father's JVC GR-DV800U video camera. Actually that particular JVC camera seems to work quite well with FCP. But not Canon's GL2. I am able to control camera's Rewind, Fast Forward, Play, etc. So I know that some communication is taking place. However, no picture is present within FCP; no capture either. Instead, I get that dreaded beach ball wheel.
I believe the FCP settings are correct: Under "Audio/Video" settings, the audio is set to MOTU's 424 (for the 2408 MK3); the DV Capture Preset (and the Sequence) is set to "DV NTSC 48 khz"; Video Playback is set for"Digital Cinema Desktop Preview - Main" with the audio playback set (again) to MOTU's 424 card.
I am attempting to capture the video to an external hard disk drive using the Mac Pro's firewire port located in the back of the computer. Again, this all works using my father's JVC video recorder.
*Given the computer setting and operating system, is this a known issue between the FCP and the GL2??* My GL2 is an older video camera. I purchased it quite a few years ago. *It seems like the GL2 may be the culprit. Yes? No?*
I'm very new to FCP. My background is with SONY's Vegas program (currently I'm up to version 8). Been using the Vegas program for years. My Dell Workstation, unfortunately, is old; it definitely is showing signs of aging. So, to make a long story short, I've decided to invest time and money in a Mac Pro (I use it primarily for music sequencing using the Logic Pro program which I love!) Now I want to learn how to use the FCP which I purchased several months ago. Not being able to have FCP communicate with the GL2 is a minor significance for me, though. I'm in no financial place to purchase a new camera at this time. Luckily, I usually record the video using Focus Enhancement's FS4-Pro with the GL2. So I am not totally dependent on having FCP and the GL2 work together. *Thankfully, the FS4-Pro DOES works well with FCP!!* Too bad I didn't use the FS4-Pro today. Wish I did. UGH
Could there be a work around in getting the GL2 to communicate properly with FCP??
Thank you in advance for your thoughtful insights and suggestions.
Regards,
Ted FiebkeNot all Canon cameras have connection issues, but hanging around this site I've come to recognize their ability to connect in FCP is the most problematic of all the camera brands. If you have a Canon camcorder, and can not get it to connect up with FCP, the following is a way to sort through the issues and get it to work. Some are elegant - some are ugly.
Before we go any farther
• You should be using 'Firewire Basic' as the control protocol. If you aren't, go change it and try again.
• Also, verify that you have a solid installation of Quicktime. You may want to reinstall it using the 'delete receipts' method.
With some confidence that the software installation and camera settings are correct ... the most direct solution is to purchase another, non-Canon device to use as your capturing machine. The (now discontinued) Sony DSR-11 is highly recommended for DV work. A deck will save wear and tear on the camera's lightweight drive mechanism and will allow you to permanently connect a NTSC/PAL monitor for proper viewing. If you are working with HDV, you may have other issues ...
Beyond that, the path you take depends on the model of computer you own.
1. If you have a G5 tower or a MacPro, capture to a second internal drive with only the camera attached. If you need to move material to firewire drive, disconnect the camera. A second internal drive is quite inexpensive these days if you do not already have one.
2. If you have a G5 tower (PCI) MacPro (PCI), G4 powerbook (PCMCIA) or MacBookPro (Expresscard 43) with an available slot, purchase the appropriate firewire card for the slot. Connect your camera to the card and you should be good to go. The new card creates a unique bus and will avoid collisions with the external drives.
3. If you do not have a slot or a second internal drive and you are stuck with the camera, welcome to the camera/drive shuffle.
• shut down and remove the external hard drive(s) from the system
• connect the camera directly to the firewire port of the computer
• start the camera then the computer
• capture to your internal (system) hard drive
• shut down the camera and computer
• disconnect the camera and reconnect the external hard drive(s)
• start hard drive(s) and computer
• move captured files to external hard drive(s)
• edit
If you output back to tape or wish to view your work on an external Video (NTSC or PAL) monitor, you need to set up the camera to use the firewire out as the A/DV converter or VTR - which means reversing the steps:
• copy the file back to the internal drive
• shut everything down
• disconnect the external drive(s)
• connect the camera to the firewire port (and the TV to the camera if needed)
• start the camera then the computer
• play the file.
One caveat here - You may have difficulty getting the file back to tape without dropping frames. Playing files off of the system drive is very demanding and they may have a hard time keeping up.
All in all, if you do not have the option for second bus (i.e. iMacs, eMacs, iBooks, MacBooks) you may want to think about a computer with expandable options next time.
There is the option of capturing using iMovie, but that brings on it's own set of problems and is not recommended.
Good luck.

My MacBook Air has come up with the Service Battery warning and isn't holding charge as well as it used to. I expect the battery needs replacing.
How do I find out if an applestore can replace it there and then?
I've been told I need to go online to book a genius appointment, and online the nearest apple store is one that can service macbook air laptops. However, when I go online and select book genius appointment for mac at this applestore it says "There are no available appointments at this store".
When I speak to apple on the phone, I am told, it is not possible to tell me on the phone whether apple stores have spare batteries or not for my macbook air.
On Tuesday I may have time to go to this apple store (Liverpool) without a genius appointment, but not to the next city (Manchester Trafford Centre). When I look for appointments at the Trafford Centre, the only available slot in the next 7 days is on Friday which I cannot do as I am not in the country. It is not possible to book further forward.
So, I really don't want to be going on a wild goose chase trying to find somewhere that can provide and fit a new battery.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated as to how I can get a new battery fitted for my macbook air as soon as possible.
As this is not a rant or complaint (my previous post was removed), I also would like to clearly provide the same constructive criticism as included in my previous post. When the problem "Service Battery" is highlighted by the laptop, in this "connected world" we live in, I think excellent customer service would be being able to book a genius appointment from your laptop with 1 or 2 clicks and also to be able to buy and reserve a battery to be fitted there and then.
As my macbook air is critical for my work and I used it 7 days a week, I really need to be able to replace on applecare customer service to fix this. Thanks.call them, tell them you NEED a new battery installed, and they need to tell you when they can do it. That is their job to help you! Give pushback if necessary.

Can't capture vid - Canon XL cam FW 400 to FW 800 HD - Apple gurus stumped
Am I REALLY the ONLY person out there using a Canon XL 1 and/or 2, an external hard drive with firewire 800 ports and a G5 and/or Mac Book Pro and working with FCP?!!!!
I made a special trip from Flagstaff AZ to the Apple Store at the Biltmore in PHX, just to stump the Apple genuises with this problem. They asked that I post this on the Apple site's discussion forum.
The verdict was: There seems to be a problem capturing video in FCP ("Unable to initialize video deck" and FCP freezes up) when going from the Canon, via firewire 400 4 pin to 6 pin and saving to an external hard drive via firewire 800. The 400 cable is good, as it captures fine to a drive using a 400 cable. It's just the 400 port on newer, 800 capable hard drives, is limited to one. We tried all different ways of configuring, going from camera to HD thru the Mac, and going from camera directly into the external HD, plugging into the 400 port, and then into the Mac from the HD thru the 800 ports.
The only thing that we didn't try, because it's a rare cable (the Apple store hasn't carried one in over three months), is a 4 pin to 9 pin FW 800 cable.
What am I doing in real life to still keep making money? I capture to my old external HD that has 2 FW 400 ports, then dump the footage to my new HDs with FW 800 ports to work on the project. Time consuming.
Again, all versions of FCP and QuickTime software are up to date. We also used one of their G5s. Also, the problem occurs with both my LaCie Rugged HD and my Western Digital My Book, both purchased from the Apple store. The guru at the store kept referring to a bridge issue???
Thanks. Here's my standard "so you are using a Canon camcorder to capture and it isn't working" routine:
Not all Canon cameras have connection issues, but hanging around this site I've come to recognize their ability to connect in FCP is the most problematic of all the camera brands. If you have a Canon camcorder, and can not get it to connect up with FCP, the following is a way to sort through the issues and get it to work. Some are elegant - some are ugly.

Go to /library/receipts and delete any files that say Quicktime followed by a number e.g. Quicktime703.pkg
Go to the Apple quicktime site and download the appropriate version of Quicktime to your hard drive.
Run the Quicktime installer.
Reboot
Repair Disk Permissions for your System Disk (Disk Utility > Select the system disk > Repair Disk Permissions)
With some confidence that the software installation and camera settings are correct and it still won't capture correctly, you are most likely a victim of the dread 'Canon firewire bus incompatibility problem'. Simply stated: Canon cameras do not play well with other devices on the same firewire bus. And, since all the firewire ports on a Mac connect to one bus - well - you get the picture.
The most direct solution is to purchase another, non-Canon device to use as your capturing machine. The Sony DSR-11 is highly recommended for DV work. Since you have one and it isn't working, perhaps you have a more fundamental problem. Beyond replacing your tape playback device, the path you take depends on the model of computer you own.

Hello.
We're running a NW6.5.8 machine on a HP Proliant ML350 G3. The server works
well since several years. Three weeks ago the server makes some problems.
After restarting the machine the memory runs low after 3 or for days. I
can't see a reason for this.
Do you have an idea for this?
Here is my config.txt of this machine:

; This is a sample of the slp configuration file.
; Two types of entries can be made: 1) DA entries, 2) SA Register Filters.
; The DA entry allows static configuration of a known DA. This would be
used
; when the DA was out of multicast range and DHCP was not being used to
; configure the DA.
; The static DA configuration format is as follows 'DA <addr type>,
<addr>'.
; The first word must be "DA". The addr type is the address type.
Currently, only
; IPV4 has been defined. IPV6 will be defined in the future. The addr is
; the address specified.
; The following is an example of a static DA.
; DA IPV4, 130.1.1.1
; The SA Register Filter would be used when the administrator wanted all
services
; of a specific service type being mapped to a single scope. For example,
; the administrator wanted all "lpr" printers being registered to scope
"printer".
; The format is as follows: 'REGISTER TYPE "<type name>" to SCOPE "<scope
name>"'.
; The parser will look for REGISTER, TYPE, and SCOPE as keywords followed
by quote on
; a single line. Example:
; REGISTER TYPE "lpr" to SCOPE "eng"
; The last line must contain a line feed and char return. A semi-colon
specifies a
; comment.

; This is a sample of the slp configuration file.
; Two types of entries can be made: 1) DA entries, 2) SA Register Filters.
; The DA entry allows static configuration of a known DA.
A semi-colon
specifies a
; comment.
