Avant Window Navigator + Media Icons plugin + exaile = not working
Hello,
I`m trying to control exaile with the media control applet from awn, but it only regocnises vlc. I`m using a standalone compiz configuration.
Any ideas?
greets,
Robert
For the notification area to work, you have to remove any other notification-areas from your panels. Sometimes it requires a session restart to show up properly.
To get launchers on the dock, make standard .desktop launchers in a folder you won't move. Then simply drag and drop the .desktop files onto the dock.
Stacks are, at the moment, not so easy to get working. I'm constantly updating my PKGBUILD here trying to get it to work on as many different machines as possible. The stack applet is not very well-written in its current state, so it requires some yucky file manipulations to get it to work (see post_install() in the .install file).
I just updated my pkgbuild, so try it again. If you still get white lines, try rebooting and/or restarting your user session. If you still get white lines after rebooting, can you post the terminal output after adding the offending applets?
EDIT: Also, a warning: look over the .install file and make sure it doesn't affect your configuration in a negative way. The file manipulations needed to get stacks to work could (but shouldn't) potentially harm your system.

MY FRIEND SUGGESTED THIS TO ME
I HAVE TRIED THIS
BUT ITS WASTE
I CANT EVEN FIND ANYTHING AS
WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER
I have had the same problem since I installed Firefox 4.0.
Thank you for letting us know that The RealPlayer plugin conflict, was the source of this problem.
Another way to fix this (for good) is doing the following:
1) Click on "Tools">Options"
2) Click on the "Applications" tab
3) Search in the "Content Type" column, all the applications that start with the words "Windows Media." Click on the content that is listed to the right of each application's name and choose "Use Windows Media Player (default)."
By doing this, Firefox will avoid using the Windows Media Player plugin and will open the corresponding application directly with Windows Media Player.
I just did this and is working perfectly. Try it and let me know how it works for you.I just saw this posted to the mozilla.support.firefox newsgroup in the topic,<br>
[http://groups.google.com/group/mozilla.support.firefox/browse_thread/thread/f381fb349c4d109d/69bef0011240e600?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8 Windows Media Player will not install in Firefox 4] <br>
''Just for the record, the extension that conflicted with Windows Media Player is named: Real Player Browser Record Plug-In 14.0.2''
<br>..... so try [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] to see if a Firefox extension is conflicting with the WMP Firefox plugin. -

Something wrong with avant-window-navigator
I got to install with compiling, but when I type the command or click the icon on the menu, it says "bash: avant-window-navigator: command not found". I believe I have all the dependencies.
try using these "locate, which, whereis" to find the executable then put in path
Also check it has the right permissions if you know where it is. -
[SOLVED] Avant-Window-Navigator issues
Hey guys,
For the first time I'm trying out arch linux and I'd just like to say it's the best distro I've ever used. I got very far very easily on this distro by just using the arch wiki and the forms. You guys have a fantastic community.
Anyways I'm posting because I've had issues with avant-window-navigator. The biggest one being that I cannot move the dock. When I start awn-settings I get this error.
/usr/bin/awn-settings:1064: GtkWarning: Failed to get constuct only property adjustment of monitor_align_hscale with value `adjustment1'
self.wTree.add_from_file(self.XML_PATH)
And the result is that the "Position" slider is locked in one place. On top of that I've been having issues with different applets (specifically the main menu applets) where they just crash whenever I try to use them. I'm assuming those are just missing dependencies?
Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you for your time.
Last edited by Sphaerophoria (2011-07-14 16:50:46)Appears to be the same problem as with exaile and xfce-panel. Downgrade gtk2 or try to change the value by editing the gconf files.

[SOLVED] Avant window navigator runs twice at startup!
Hi, ive installed AWN and put itin to session menu in XFCE4 to run a startup.
When i type:
avant-window-navigator
It runs fine, but at startup, it runs twice!
I can see a AWN behind the other. This also happened in KDE4.
Last edited by B4RR13N705 (2009-08-04 01:26:22)In your AWN option menu, do you have the little box checked that says: "Start AWN on login"? (Or something close to that) Try unchecking it, and removing your start up entry from the session manager as well. Test to make sure it does not start when you log back in, then JUST add it to your start up session menu. AWN will figure out it was added and check the box for you.
I had this problem for a long time in Gnome, and contrived a massive workaround where I had a short script that started it and added the script to the start up menu. Just adding it once is much cleaner. It's a quark of AWN's built in start up script.
Alternatively, you could let AWN start itself by checking that box rather than adding it to the session manager after logging back into your XFCE session.
I hope this helps! -

Avant-window-navigator doesn't start & problems changing gnome languag
hey there everybody!
this is my first post in this forum after a few days trying arch:)
simply love it... doesn't require too much efort(but if it did it would be a pleasure:) )
well let's stick to the issue...
here it goes:
i've searched through the web and i've found that to change my language to portuguese i would have to edit rc.conf so it would be like this:
LOCALE="pt-BR.UTF8"
HARDWARECLOCK="localtime"
TIMEZONE="Portugal"
KEYMAP="pt-latin1"
CONSOLEFONT="Agafari-12"
CONSOLEMAP=
USECOLOR="yes"
the problem is that after this it is still in english and when i type locale -a i get this
[root@myhost foka]# locale -a
C
POSIX
en_US
en_US.iso88591
en_US.iso885915
en_US.utf8
i haven't found any gnome-i18n alike's so i really need help on this one although i'm confortable with english
the secound problem.. i've installed avant-window-navigator from source but when i try to start it or use configuration tools i get this
Failed to execute child process "avant-window-navigator" (No such file or directory)
i hope you can help me:)
good hacking:D
Last edited by FOKA (2007-11-18 05:03:46)thank u byte and andre.ramaciotti for answering to my post:)

bash: /bin:/usr/bin:/sbin:/usr/sbin:/usr/X11R6/bin:/opt/bin:/opt/java/jre/bin:/opt/mozilla/bin: No such file or directory

Xfce4 and avant window navigator
So i have installed awn on top of my xfce4 desktop and now im having some issues with applets. Most of the applets i try to add crash instantly. Also i have received warning messages of missing dependencies like python-notify ( Installed via pacman works for now) and python-feedparser which is installed but it says it isn't. So what can i do about crashing applets and missing feedparser?
Sounds to me like a python2/3 conflict. python-notify and python-feedparser are python2 only.
Check the applet .desktop files in /usr/share/avant-window/navigator/applets to see if they are launching using python or python2. If they are using python, this means they are launching in python3, hence the crash.
Cheers. -
[Solved] How to Install avant-window-navigator-bzr
Trying to install awn-bzr because it doesn't require a compositer. Never installed using bzr before... Here is my pathetic attempt... No laughing
tried
yaourt -S avant-window-navigator-bzr
failed because i wasn't logged into launchpad
so i tried logging on: bzr lp-login (myusername)
failed because I didn't have a ssh key.
so I followed the instructions and made one.
trying yaourt again fails
searched arch forums and tried bzr branch lp:awn
and got some weird results but I'm lost -_-.... no idea what to do next.
I'm doing everything wrong aren't I?
Last edited by Loafers (2010-02-24 06:59:42)Can you please show the exact output? I'm sure you don't need a launchpad account to get the source.
I think I know what message you are talking about and from memory you just need to wait it out until the source has downloaded. It shouldn't stop you in any way. -
N900 Media Player and Camera not working
Hello,
I am having some problems with my phone which I think might be related to gstreamer.
When I open the camera cover and the camera tries to launch I get the error message "Operation failed". Media player also does not work, I can see the media files but when I try playing them nothing happens.
I used gstreamer to capture images for an application that I created and it has always worked fine until recently, when I started noticing the problems with the camera and media player.
Between the time everything was working and now, this is what I have done:
-installed OpenGL ES 2
-installed Qt
-copied a bunch of screenshots from the phone to my Mac (i think I just did it through bluetooth but I might have used the usb cable)
Here is what I have done to try to fix the problem:
-connect the phone via usb to a windows computer, rightclick the n900 icon and error check (as recommended on this forum)
-update the firmware using app manager
-reboot
-type dmesg in the terminal after opening the lens cover - that did not output any errors
Could this be related to anything other than the gstreamer? If it is the gstreamer, should I try reinstalling it?
Any help would be appreciated
Best,
EyrunThanks. The reason why I haven't done that yet is that the gstreamer libraries came with the phone as I got it and I am not sure what needs to be installed. It seems like there are many plugins and something called totem-gstreamer that I might need additionally. Do you know of any good references for how this should be done for N900? I haven't been able to find one. Also, I do think it is a little bit strange that all of a sudden gstreamer would stop working, that's why I wonder if it could be something else?
Best,
Eyrun -
I was running KeyPassFox with Firefox 8.0.1, but the plugin does not work in the new release (9) . Is there a way to restore my previous version with all of my bookmarks intact? I do not mind if I have to restore the plugins myself.
The plugin shows on the list as enabled and functioning, yet the tool does not show on the toolbar. It would appear that I need to restore the previous version of Firefox and wait until a newer release of the plugin is available before upgrading the browser.I copied the iTunes file from the external drive and it's in both places. I thought all I would need is the iTunes program (which I downloaded to new computer) and my iTunes library file. There must be something else that's missing. My iTunes library looks the same on the new computer as it does when I open it on the external drive. If I click on an iTunes library song from my new computer, it will only play if I have the external drive plugged in.
My back-up drive is a mess. I have multiple copies of music, video, photo, and document files and I don't know how that happened. ={ Obviously, I don't know how to back up stuff properly and there are back-up files extending over a 6- to 8-year period. I think all I did was just drag and drop the main folders from the back-up drive to the same main folders on the C: drive. Also (and I'm kind of fuzzy on this) Windows used to automatically save music files in a folder within my document files (which makes no sense to me). As my Jewish friends would say, "Oy Vey!"
