AVC Playback problem in Premiere CS4

Hi Everyone,
I recently graduated from college and am trying my hand at being a freelance videographer.  Before now I've just used my small camcorder for all of my projects, but I wanted to move up to working in HD.  So I just bought a brand new HD camera and was really excited to start using it.
I got a few shots, downloaded them onto my computer from the camera chip, and tried to import them in Adobe Premiere Pro CS4.  The files imported fine, but when they playback on the source monitor and the program monitor (after I drag it into the timeline) the pixels are jittery, in the wrong position, and sometimes playing backwards.  It makes the footage look fuzzy and chunky, and it's really distracting when I go to edit.  How do I fix this?
The footage is fine when I play it with Windows Media player.
I thought maybe I choose the wrong preset when I opened a new sequence, but I've tried changing that to multiple different settings and nothing changed.  Most of the settings I tried were AVC-Intra & AVCHD.
It looked like a few people were having similar problems, but with different circumstances as mine.  And I couldn't tell if they were able to fix the problem yet.  I really want to be able to use this new camera for my upcoming projects and I was hoping someone could help.
Here are the specs on my Software, Camera, & Computer:
SOFTWARE:
                Adobe Premiere Pro CS4

What is your hard drive setup?
My 3 hard drives are configured as... (WD = Western Digital)
1 - 320G WD Win7 64bit Pro and all programs
2 - 320G WD Win7 swap file and video projects
3 - 1T WD all video files... read and write

  • Playback problems in Soundbooth CS4 for Mac

I've seen this posted an number of times with a number of solutions. Trust me, I've tried everything that Adobe and, you, my fellow Adobe users have recommended.
My problem: the playback function in Soundbooth (and Premiere) plays for a second, then returns to the initial position.
    Recommendations I've tried:
    • Use the admin to set new permissions for the program.--> I'm the only person using my laptop, and the only admin. Didn't work.
    • Opened Soundbooth>Preferences...>Audio Hardware>Select I/O as default.-->Yes, I kept getting that error message too, and the same when I selected an input.
    • Your_HD>Library>Preferences>com.apple.audioAggregate... & whatever else.plist-->Neither of these files exist on my computer. I've looked everywhere including the contents of hidden files. Every XML document I opened in Textmate to see if they're coded for Soundbooth audio. Nothing!
    • Uninstalled/reinstalled-->That didn't work! Even ran a code to delete all my Norton anti-virus peripherals to ensure there wasn't a conflict during install.
The only catch: Last week Soundbooth and Premiere CS4 worked fine. Friday my HD crashed and I had it replaced through Apple Care Protection. I was completely up on all my downloads and software upgrades, including OS 10.6.3. which, like most of you, I've found major incompatibility issues too. Monday I did the reinstall of everything, and now these programs don't work.
I'm exhausted and looking for any new solutions because these programs are essential to what I specialize in.

_durin_-->I've read countless threads on this forum where your expertise in Soundbooth have helped innumerable frustrated Adobe patrons. You're a talented problem solver and I thank you for recommendations. However, those files don't exist on my computer--either visible or hidden. I've checked.
Here is how I solved my problem and regained the power of Premiere and Soundbooth CS4 for my MacBook Pro that recently had a new hard drive installed.
I went to the Apple store and inquired about some issues with permissions. The only option they could offer me was to run a Disk Utility unit on my new hard drive to check for conflicting permissions. After ten minutes of investigation, no conflicts found, and a restart I opened both Premiere and Soundbooth CS4. To my surprise I could import and playback audio and video just fine.
This was two days ago and I have yet to encounter the problem since then.
A success with a different solution to this persistent and troublesome problem.

  • Problems with Premiere CS4 video

Just purchased Premiere CS4.  When I import video (avi or mpeg), what appears in the preview monitor or the timeline monitor is greatly distorted.  Audio is great, it's just the video that I'm having trouble with.  Running it on XP with 3.4 GB of memory.  Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

So would some information. AVI and MPEG mean nothing, they are just containers that can hold anything from scrap metal, toxic chemicals, food, clothing, electronics, spare car parts, tapestry or God knows what. Unfortunately PR can only handle certain contents, so you need to know what codec is used.

  • Major problems with Premiere CS4

    Hello there!
I'm having major problems with CS4. I recently bought a new computer - essentials are as follows:
    Intel Core i7 920 2.66GHz
    2 x Kingston 3x2GB, DDR3 1333MHz (=12 GB RAM)
    Ati Radeon HD 5770 v2
    Asus P6T SE, LGA1366, X58, DDR3, ATX
    2 x 500GB, Barracuda 7200.12 (RAID1), system disk
    2 x 1TB Barracuda 7200.12, media disks
    Windows 7 Pro 64 bit
Adobe CS4 Production Premium + latest updates
The problem I have has mostly to do with Premiere although I think the rest of Production Premium softwares should be running better on this computer as well.
For starters, I was highly disappointed when I couldn't view a single HD clip from the Premiere timeline (it was an .m2ts rip from a previously self-burned Bluray disc) at all. Rendering is very slow and even after that the video doesn't run normally, showing just a few individual frames per second. When I point the timeline at a certain spot, it takes many seconds until even that very frame is shown in the monitor window.
And this is not all - I decided to try with a basic DV AVI clip, previously captured with my PPro 1.5 on my earlier computer (3.2ghz Pentium from 2005). It's a native file so it doesn't even need rendering and still the same problem occurs. With normal playback only about 6-10 frames are shown per second. It's absolutely ridiculous - even my 2004 laptop runs DV AVIs more smoothly with PPro 1.5.
While I'm running the Premiere, the level of used RAM comes only up to around 24 percents. The processor, then again, comes close to a hundred when play is pressed on the timeline.
I haven't had such immense problems with other Production Premium softwares (though as I said, I think they should be running faster as well). Otherwise the computer is running smoothly.
A friend of mine pointed out that the graphics card I'm using isn't on the Adobe website's list of supported ones with Premiere, but afaik it shouldn't even be a graphics card problem with this high-end machinery.
So - I sure could use some help and ideas about how to get the Premiere working. My main intention for buying a new computer and Adobe CS4 Production Premium was to start HD editing after all! Thanks beforehand!

    Hi
Yeah, I hope he solves problem and knows how it got solved and tells us all...it's like being a detective !  " Mr Plum did it in the "svchost" room ! "
I got a little lost on this....
You are welcome and I'm glad that it paid off so nicely for you. One more  suggestion, if I may: I'm a big fan of a fixed pagefile size. When making a  fresh install of Windows, one of my first actions is to set a fixed pagefile on  a different disk (min=max) before installing anything else on that different  disk and removing the pagefile on the C drive. This will ensure that the  pagefile in on the fastest part of the drive and will never be  fragmented.
I think it used to be that I made swapfiles, or swapdisks which now seems to be called pagefile.  That in itself is a little confusing semantic wise, because of the use of mempage stuff.  It used to be that base memory was 640k, with the upper memory (to make up 1024 kb) was mostly for drivers and stuff.  If more memory was needed than 640k (an event the inventor never thought possible...  "who could want more than the enormous amount of 640K ?", he said..)..the extended and expanded memory got invented to swap memory pages from that 640k as needed with the rest of RAM.  That's basically correct right ?  Sooooo, I don't know if that still goes on, but I suspect it does, unless someone totally changes the architecture of the computer and cpu and fsb and everything...  but I don't know what is going on nowadays.  Anyway, there were other ways besides windows OS to create virtual memory on the hard drive, and Photoshop was one of the programs that could do that, I think.
Why MS would want to call the swapdisk virtual memory "pagefile" is beyond me.
Anyway, be that as it may, I understand that making the pagefile first on a drive so it's close to the center of the drive (heads don't have to travel far to access).  But I haven't added a lot of drives to a system before, and I suspect I will be pretty soon...and this is the part I don't get...
You add drives and put OS on them?  So they are bootable ?  I've added a drive or two but just formatted and used as more storage but didn't put OS on them.  So that part is confusing...
Then you take the pagefile off the C: drive ?  Are you then using the new drive as your boot drive and the C: drive is too full to use accept to run the programs already installed ?
    Thanks again !

  • Intermittent, inconsistent playback problems in Premiere Pro CS6

Before I start: I'm not a computer guy, please be patient with me.
This is the problem that prompted me to finally post a question, though I've had similar problems before.
    I'm using a macbook pro, 15 inch, late 2011
Processor  2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory  4 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
Graphics  AMD Radeon HD 6750M 512 MB
    Software  Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63)
    Premiere settings:
    Video Rendering and playback:
Renderer: Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration
    Video
         Display Format: Timecode
    Audio
         Display Format: Audio Samples
I'm editing a video. Things were going great. Randomly, with nothing changing in the premiere settings, or my computer settings or ANYTHING (other than opening a web browser periodically to look up some troubleshooting advice), One of the audio clips goes out.
I rendered the work area. I rendered the audio. I deleted the audio clip and brought it back down into my timeline. The audio works in the source monitor window, but as soon as I bring it into the timline it stops.
This is incredibly frustrating. Mostly because I don't understand how something can just randomly stop working. This software isn't cheap, it should do what it's supposed to do. Being able to see and hear the video you're editing seems like a pretty fundamental function that shouldn't be subject to random bugs.
This clip was working fine a minute ago, now it's not.
    Help! Please!

New development: I deleted the file from the project window and re-imported it. It works now. BUT! That shouldn't have happened in the first place, right? If anyone can help me understand how to prevent this type if thing from happening again the future that would be awesome. I don't want to have to continually re-import various clips.
    Thanks!

  • Problem export premiere cs4

Hi everybody, I have a problem and I hope you can help me. I have a cs4 project in HDV 50i, 1440x1080 and aspect ratio 1.333
When I do the export in Mpg2 Pal 720x576 in 16:9, its aspect ratio changes in 1.459 creating two black strips on the sides.
How can I do my export preserving the original ratio, the 1.333 one?
    Thanks
    Damiano

Go to the export settings. In the source tab in the left top corner press crop and add 13pix for the bottom and top.

  • Output playback problem when Premiere is running

    Hi all,
I have output a few videos before and have never had this problem.
Today I output a video and tried to play the resulting file, it was severely discolored pink / green blocks.
If I close premiere down and played the file again it's perfect.
Any ideas why this maybe happening?
Thank you very much for any help in advance.

It sounds like PPro and your media player are fighting for graphics card resources. Check your drivers.
    Cheers

  • Problems, Problems, Problems with Premiere CS4

Is it just me?  I almost hate to say this but this must be the worst program ever.  It constantly crashes and the weird part, it crashes everytime I try to use anything on the help file.  There is no audio when capturing, and maybe it is supposed to be that way, just very hard to capture limited parts of footage.  The biggest problem and hopefully someone can help me here, I cannot get it to capture in HD.  I have tried every setting under the sun and it always converts footage to dv and stretches it out.  The very sad thing is that I have to use iMovie to capture, which captures in HD flawlessly, but then guess what, can't import into premiere, says the file doesn't fit.  WHAT?  All this money and all these problems.

I'm using the same camera you are, the Canon HV30, and I did find it another dissapointment to see it not listed in Adobe's camera selections...seriously, Adobe, WAKE UP. This is one of the most sold cameras of the last couple of years.
You dont hear audio in iMovie during capture either. That's not an issue. My issue is with a lack of clip auto-detect, and the paucity of filters and transitions vs the PC version, and a lousy file tracking system, and no export to HDV QT, and no on screen preview. That about covers it.
Premiere for me has not crashed. Encore, now that's a whole different story. I wish I had really gone through Premiere more so I could have returned it in time. Fortunately, I bought production premium for After Effects, which I really do like and find that mac has no substitute for (but maybe FCP and Shake does what it does as well) and got it at discount from BH so I'm not too screwed, but I so very much wish I had FCP instead, since I really expected Premiere to be far more than it is.
Otherwise, I got premiere to recognize my camera, although it seemed to need some turning on and off a couple of times.
I'm on a two-year old macintel, so maybe your newer computer is the issue, but bottom line, Adobe releasing software not ready for primetime is the issue, and has been as much confirmed on other video websites than this one.
I'm trying to find some way to redeem my experience in Premiere, but I sure dont want to use it to capture, and Encore is a failure, so what am I gonna do, use it to edit in the middle? FCP Express is selling for $149 and has far more effects and transitions than Premiere does and has good capture.. I want batch export, though, and 24P, so I might just bite the bullet and fork over the cash. TIme is money.
and to those who say it works on the PC, there are plenty of compaints on that end as well.

  • Double click problem in Premiere CS4

I can’t open my projects by double clicking on the projectname.proj
Project name icon is missing and when I try to right click/open in and select Premiere it says:
This is not windows valid Win32 program ( OS = Windows XP SP3)
When I go to START / Premiere Pro SC4 and load Premiere first and then navigate to projectname.proj (The icon is still missing) the projects loads up nicely and everything is working just fine.
I installed Premiere Pro CS on another PC where OS = Vista Business Edition using where same installation disc (I don’t know if this is legal but I had to try it) and there was not any problems at all.
I just can’t use this PC because it was my wife’s and it took all the space on her hard disc so I must to remove it.

    Hello again!
I was ignoring this particular problem for a while but I did have some project loading issue from time to time.
So I went to control panel\folder alternatives again and selected "advanced settings".
There is an option to add new file type and make its path to the right "exe-file"
I have tried it before but this time I noticed that I wrote command "OPEN" in the field where I was supposed to type what kind action system will perform.
I tried "LOAD" and problem was still there. Then I realized how stupid I was:
My OS is not in English but in Norwegian. I typed "Åpen" and almost immediately all my icons turned to pink.
It was an extraordinary experience. Like in those chick movies
I never experienced any bug-related problems after that.
Hope this thread will help someone in the future.
    All credits to Mr. Hunt
    Best regards

  • Sudden playback problems in Premiere Pro CS 5.5.2 Mac - audio but no video

This is happening on my 12-core Xeon Mac Pro with 16gb of RAM (Lion 10.7.3), nVIDIA GeForce GTX 285 card, so it is probably not an insufficient-hardware issue... plus nothing has changed in the system that would explain this issue.
I was working on a file combine several short clips a couple of weeks ago, and all was well, despite the fact that I was using the raw FLV files. They imported, showed up and played back in Source just fine, and when I created my sequences they all worked beautifully in the Program monitor as well. I exported them, they looked great, all was unicorns and rainbows.
Until I came back from a trip today.
I repaired my permissions and restarted my machine (I always do that after a time away), and pulled up my file. Nothing at all in my system configuration has changed in the time I've been away and no one else has used it. But when I bring up any of the files or sequences in the source or program monitors, all I get is black, no matter what magnification or playback resolution I specify. I can play them, everything looks normal, the audio plays as if the file is running normally... but no video. If i stop playback and click on the video in the program monitor, I will see a still from that video. But as soon as I play, black.
The strange part is that this also applies to the play MOV files I brought in, and newer ones as well. I've brought files in that are in QT (Apple Animation Codec). H.264, MTS (AVCHD), etc., all files that have previously worked just fine, and all of them suffer from the same issue.
I will do some more system cleaning and restart everything again, but has anyone hadf a similar experience, have an explanation, a solution, anything? I will be in serious trouble if PPro can suddenly not work for me.
    Thanks,

  • Playback problem with Premiere Elements 11

    Hi,
I have been editing a movie I am making in Premiere Elements 11.
I have edited about 3mins off footage so far.
Today, I opened up the project as normal. The project seemed to open up as normal but will now not allow me to view any of the movie, including any of the project assets.
When I press play, nothing moves.
    Please help.
    Thanks

What operating system are you running the program on? Which processor does your computer have and how much RAM?
Have you ensured you have the latest version of Quicktime, per the program's requirement?
What model of camcorder is your video coming from and what format and resolution is it?
What are your Project Settings, as listed under the Premiere Elements Edit menu? If your project settings are properly set to match your video, you will NOT see a yellow orange line along the top of the timeline, above your clips, in Expert view. Is this the case with your project?

  • AVCHD lite playback problem in Premiere Elements - No sound

I am importing AVCHD Lite movie files from my Panasonic camera (DMC-FT1) to Adobe Premiere Elements 7.  It seems to work just fine, except that it will not play the Audio of the movie files.  No sound whatsoever.
I've seen many other posts in the forum regarding sound that drops, but for me, it simply is not playing sound at all.
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.  I had a look earlier at the conversion recommendations (http://forums.adobe.com/thread/454585?tstart=0), which seemed to work correctly for me in Premiere Elements, and again using the Koyote Soft product. However, both resulting files still play without audio in Premiere Elements. Strange, I am able to use the (incredibly bad) software product supplied with the camera to import and play the videos with sound; but everything else I've tried has been unsuccessful. (I'll post on how I go with the new iLife 09. I see it's supposed to improve support for AVCHD Lite.)
I'll keep exploring the other FAQs you mention, but happy to hear any other tips as well. Thanks again.

  • Premiere CS4 capture tool problem

    Hello there,
I am experiencing a weird problem with Premiere CS4. I am not able to capture DV footage from my Sony DSR-PDX10P. When I open the Capture window (F5), it's working very slowly compared to anything else with the software. If I have the camera connected through firewire, it most often crashes. It does recognize the camera and if it doesn't crash, it states "stopped" but fails to show the footage when I run it. Preview screen stays black. A few times I have managed to get a record command through, whichafter Pr states "recording" but the counter stays at 00:00:00:00 and afterwards gives me "No frames were recorded" or a similar message. Anything I do within the Capture window happens like 5-10 seconds after I've given a command.
I know the problem isn't firewire-related, because OnLocation CS4 works like it should. DV footage from the camera can be watched and recorded without a problem. And the .avi files recorded in OnLocation open up in Premiere nicely. Otherwise Premiere is working just fine.
Possibly the strangest thing is that less than 2 weeks ago I used the capture function with the same camera without any problems. The only thing in my setup that has changed since was the installation of Microsoft Silverlight (which sucks but I needed to watch a video that required it - stupid move though). I have tried uninstalling it and opening a restore point before it was installed - without an effect.
I know I CAN still record footage through OnLocation, so this is not lifethreatning. I'd still prefer Premiere and of course would like to know what the hell is wrong with the capture tool. Or whatever the cause may be.
(Btw, another problem I have, more of a sidenote here but if someone would have an idea, has to do with AE CS4's RAM preview - it works once just fine, then crashes. Haven't had any problems with that before and it also worked like it should a few weeks back. Wonder if these two problems (AE and Pr) could be strangely connected? I've tried different settings (with and without OpenGL, Prevent DLL Address Space Fragmentation and different CPU/RAM level combinations) without effect - and again, with the settings I had it did work a few weeks ago)
I've started a thread once before with a CS4 problem so if need be, you can check my (unchanged) hardware data here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2488816#2488816
I'm eager to hear if someone would have an idea. Thanks!
