AVCHD AND PREMIERE CS6

After over 12 years as an Avid editor (now on MC 6.5) I decided to switch to Adobe Premiere CS6 because I have a music documentary to edit with over 300 hours of material shot on AVCHD.  Avid still hasn't conquered the AVCHD problem (although it's getting better) and I thought Adobe had.  I've spent a lot of money making this switch only to discover that Premiere plays back slow and has lots of problems with AVCHD. When is Adobe going to fix this?  I'm scared my only solution is to sale my wonderful MacPro (16 gig, NVIDIA 4000 card) and use Sony Vegas which doesn't have any problems with AVCHD. If the Adobe fix is only days away, I can wait. If not, I've really got to go to Sony.

I share the frustrations folks have with AVCHD editing in CS6; I know mine is due to the spanned clip issue.  It's highly frustrating to have spent good money on CS6 only to not be able to use it at all.  I'm forced to stick with CS5.5 which is fine, but I'd really like to use the new software without transcoding/converting my AVCHD footage.
The "we don't have a timeline yet" answer isn't going to hold water much longer.  I understand software development isn't easy, but you've known about this since around the time CS6 was released and there hasn't been any visible movement on it yet.
Figure this out quickly, please.  I'm not going to buy CS6.5 when it's released unless this is fixed before that.
Thanks.

I just bought a teacher Edition of Adobe Production Premium. I installed the softwares on my Mac which is running OS Lion 10.8.2. Everything works except Adobe After Effects CS6 and Adobe Premiere CS6. It always start up with the splash page then a pop up window opens that reads unexpected error occured send to apple.
I don't understand because Photoshop, illustrator and the other softwares worked fine.
I have tried uninstalling, re-installing, re-starting and even tried to download the After Effects CS6 and Premiere CS6 on creative cloud thinking that maybe those on the web will be more updated to address the issue.
But still I cant get it to work.

  • Avid MXF and premiere CS6

    Hello,
I wish you can give me a little assistance.
My archive is made by OMF files and MXF files created with Avid Express Pro and Media composer 5.5.
I know that MXF file from Avid are made of 2 different clips for audio and video so can the new CS6 version of Premiere import such files without recoding them?
That's because I want to digitize the rest of my videotapes in one format to share with different NLE including premiere.
    Thank you for helping

  • AVCHD and premiere problem!

Computer I have to use is triple-core, 2.10 GH.z, 32-bit Vista, RAM 2 Gt, so not the best one. I shot my footage with Canon legria HF200 and Im using Adobe premiere CS4.
Main problem is that I can't see the playback in realtime, it's laggy and Im getting pissed off.
First of all, should I just covert these mts-files to some other format. I believe my computer can't handle those huge AVCHD files. The footage is for school movie so the quality should be good but it doesn't have to be the best.
What sequence preset should I choose when I'm not even sure about the settings of the camera. I know its AVCHD and it was 25fps and 1920x1080 so do I choose AVCHD-> 1080i or 1080p or what? And how about then if I convert these mts to some other format, which setting do I use then?
What format do you recommend? AVI??? Quicktime??? What should I do?
    Thanks for the help!

  • Red Epic and Premiere CS6 workflow issues

    Hello!
I'm looking for some advice or insight regarding working with RED footage in CS6.
In the past, I've worked with native RED footage on CS5.5 with no hiccups whatsoever. I'm not sure if it's CS6 or my computer's processing power, but RED footage has become uneditable for me.
After I updated to Yosemite, I began experiencing problems with being unable to import RED Epic footage due to "unsupported or corrupt files," and when I tried to fix the problem with the Adobe Labs plugins, it reported a "generic importer failure."
I then uninstalled and re-downloaded CS6, and now I can get footage into my project, but I can get no playback at all! Both the source and program monitors remain frozen on a frame and then have the yellow "Media Pending" screen. When I attempt to render a clip in my timeline (RED HD 4K 23.58 sequence) I get an "error compiling movie" box. I've tried other sequence settings, but still no dice.
I have my source monitor playback set to 1/2 resolution and my program monitor set to 1/4 resolution. Still nothing.
    Here are my computer specs:
    MacPro 2010
    OS X 10.10.1
    2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Processor
    32GB Memory
    ATI Radeon HD 5870 GPU
Blackmagic Intensity Pro (Desktop Video 10.2.3)
I know that I can process the footage in REDCINE-X Pro (which will take a million hours), but I have a major project that is all shot with RED Epic footage and I was counting on Premiere's ability to edit natively, since I'm kind of on a tight schedule.
Am I looking at some hardware upgrades? If anyone has any advice, I'd really appreciate it!

    Hi Hannah,
I see you posted on Creative Cow too: CreativeCOW
Update to the most recent version of CS6.
Make sure your GPU has more than 768 VRAM.
Try a previously installed version of OS X.

  • Canon HF11 AVCHD and Premiere Pro CS4

I had been using a Canon Optura xi for years with good success, and recently with Adobe On Location with good success.
Recently I decided to take the plunge into HD and purchased the Canon HF11 which has AVCHD.
I realize now that without firewire support I cannot use On Location. Too bad because I really liked the ability to note my scenes, etc.
I'm having a little trouble getting everything to work together and was hoping someone could offer some suggestions.
My output is going to be hi def for you tube and for family movies (burned to DVD and/or AppleTv).
    1. If file size is not an issue should I always shoot at highest quaility?
    2. Would I choose the setting AVCHD 1080i30 (60i) non-amorphic?
What recommendations would you have for exporting to You Tube, DVD, and Apple TV. So far my exports have been a little blocky.
Last, would you recommend purchasing AVCHD upshift to make the editing process a little less painful ($50 vs a $3,000 for new system).
    Chris

Thanks for the response. I'm going to try this out tomorrow for youtube.
If I were to export from premiere for anything but youtube and maintain highest quality for playback on a PC what would you suggest? There are just so many presets I don't know what to pick. I've tried a few (Quicktime) and they look lousy.
Maybe I'm missing something, I see other people mentioning interlacing, etc. Someone else suggested shooting 24P to eliminate interlacing issues?
Thanks for helping me get to a resoltion.

  • AVCHD and Premiere Pro...HELP

    Hey guys,
After some time I've managed to stabilize my computer (with some help ).
    I'm having some trouble though...
I can't seem to get my AVCHD files to scrub smoothly in Pp5.5. I'm beginning to believe that the fault lies with Pp5.5 itself, not my hardware or settings.
    My software is up-to-date v5.5.2.
I've gone through Harm's tune tips and have changed almost everything except creating a new page file.
I've searched the forums, but have not found a fix for this problem.
I've included some screen shots in order to help you guys help me......let me know if you need any more info.
    This is driving me bonkers.

    Hey Stephen,
When I scrub the footage, premiere jumps around the time line in large gaps. I might get 1-3 frames for every minute of video when moving the mouse/cursor at a reasonable rate. It makes previewing my footage almost impossible. I basically have to let the clip play in realtime to see what's on it.
I expect the scrubbing to be smooth. Like I see in all the training material I have been watching.
Not sure what MPE RT is? Mercury Playback Engine...Real Time?
I'm also having issues with certain features when creating titles. Such as: slow feedback when changing the "degree" of the text (it takes sometime for the degree number to change onscreen...basically jumps around). When scrubbing the linear gradient option, I'm also seeing some lagging. I've circled the areas in RED on the image below:

There is a lot on these forums where certain things have clogged performance that are not related to hardware: codec packages installed, MOV "wrappers" on some media, errant drivers, etc. I would suggest running the PPBM5 benchmark (www.ppbm5.com) to get a reality check regarding how your PC is performing against a known project. That way, you will know with certainty whether you need to keep chasing hardware or something else. Please report the individual "scores" back to this forum as well.
Another benchmark to consider, which is really easy to do, is running HD Tune Pro (30 day eval is free) with block size = 2MB to insure your RAID is up to snuff. You should be getting a nice smooth waterfall decay in performance from the first part of you array (fastest) to the last part (slowest) with no massive spikes down. With your 2x1TB you should see #'s around: max = 230, min = 110 MB/s.
One tweak to suggest if you have not done it alreay is for your RAID 0 array: Win7 drive properties, click Policies tab, check both boxes: "Enable write caching on the device" and "turn off windows write cache buffer flushing on the device". This may help your build which has a fast CPU, tons of RAM, and is really light on number of drives relative to your other components. I will assume too that ALL your files are on the RAID 0 array (projects, media, cache, scratch, etc.); if they are not, try that. SSDs are great boot / program drives, but they do not work so great for CS5 / CS5.5 work.
Finally, two tips to use in the meantime so you can get some work done: 1) leave MPE enabled and do a "Sequence / Render entire work area" (from the menu) and 2) play with playback resolution (right click on playback window / playback resolution) to get your scrubbing and playback to work well. On the playback resolution, do play with different options; sometimes "full" may even work better than the easier resolutions (1/2, 1/4, etc.).

    Jim

  • AE and Premiere CS6 Mobile Editor GTX 570M vs Quadro 5100M

Here's my question folks.  Looking to get a "desktop replacement" laptop.  ASUS makes thier G75VW ROG Laptop which comes with a GTX 670M video card.  Any system with a Quadro card such as a 5100M is $2-3k more than this unit.
Is the GTX 670M good enough for moderate PP and AE work on the go or do i have to break down and get a quadro machine?  Any difference between the 670M and 660M cards?
PS - Love the fact that this laptop has 4 USB 3.0 and a Thunderbolt port.  I can play both sides of the digital fence

  • I accidentally uninstalled Premiere CS6/Encore CS6 and the CC manager says it's still installed

I'm on a PC, running Windows 7. I wanted to just install Encore CS6 and had to install Premiere CS6 to do that (WHY????).
Anyway, I was going to uninstall Premiere CS6 because I have Premiere CC, and I accidentally checked both Encore and Premiere CS6 when the uninstaller came up. The CC manager still says Premiere CS6 is still installed when it's not. I have to install Encore for a project right away.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Bhorv67 first please try quitting and reopening the Creative Cloud desktop application to force a refresh.  If the Premiere CS6 is still listed as being installed then please see Creative Cloud AAM lists Applications as "Up to Date" when not installed - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/kb/aam-lists-removed-apps-date.html for additional solutions for the difficulties which you are currently facing.

  • MacBook Pro 13 inch (mid 2012) v MacBook Pro 15 inch (mid 2014) for After Effects and Premiere

    Hi everyone,
I'm interested in working with After Effects CS6 and Premiere CS6 probably creating quite heavily layered files and experimenting with and combining effects. (I also work with Photoshop and Illustrator.)
My workplace allows me to use a 2.5 GHz Intel Dual Core i5 / MacBook Pro 13 inch (mid 2012, non retina) with hard disk and integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 4000 512MB). I understand this Mac can be maxed out at 16GB of RAM. (Official Apple specs I realise say 8GB RAM is the max for this computer but I've looked into this thoroughly and have confirmed that 16GB is in fact possible.)
I'm considering purchasing one of the new Haswell based MacBook Pro (mid 2014) models for myself.
If I do, I'll get the retina 15 inch / Intel Quad Core i7 / 16GB RAM / Intel Iris Pro Graphics / NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M / 1TB Flash Storage.
I realise there is a big difference between these two machines in terms of their specs - the 15 inch with the dedicated GPU will be far more suited to motion graphics work than the lower spec machine with integrated graphics card.
Currently, my understanding is that After Effects CS6 and Premiere CS6 do not support the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M but from research on the net I believe it's possible to add this video card to the list of supported cards within the respective applications, forcing them to recognise and use it.
Having read about the upcoming Broadwell chip, which I think may be capable of supporting 32GB RAM (possibly coming in Q2 2015 from the various websites I've visited) I wonder if it is worth holding off my purchase, and maxing out my older 13 inch laptop in order to run After Effects and Premiere for the time being.
If I waited for Broadwell based 15 inch MacBooks I think its likely they'll be expandable to 32GB RAM, making the computer a better long term investment.
eg if Adobe increase minimum/recommended memory requirements for their software in the next few years. While I don't know for sure this will happen, it does seem quite likely at some stage. The 2014 15 inch MacBook - while an excellent computer at the moment - could potentially be slightly limited with regard to future Adobe software releases as its max RAM is 16GB.
I realise I could potentially look at a high end iMac if memory is a concern, but I prefer the portability of a laptop so I'm restricting myself to portable options for the moment.
    What I'm wondering is -
If I install the 13 inch 2.5GHz i5 laptop with 16GB RAM as is possible, how would it perform when running After Effects and Premiere? It currently has 4GB and it very quickly runs out of memory meaning playback of goes very slowly when previewing complex files in the timeline. This necessitates rendering of small test sections of the timeline to see it at the correct frame rate. Would the move from 4GB RAM to 16GB RAM give me a noticeable improvement in this regard? If so then this is tempting as I don't have to pay for it - I think my workplace will cover the cost of extra RAM. And then I can wait till next year to buy my own high end laptop.
The 15 inch 2.8GHz i7 quad processor has Iris Pro and dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GT750M with 2GB RAM. I would be paying the full cost myself.
I realise rendering would be faster with this Mac but would I see a noticeable improvement over the maxed out 13 inch laptop when previewing multi layered After Effects and Premiere compositions / sequences within the timeline? I like the idea of being able to preview footage in real time as I'm editing as it saves time and I think it makes the process easier generally.
Any thoughts welcome and thanks very much in advance for your time and advice.
    Kind regards,
    John

"It currently has 4GB and it very quickly runs out of memory meaning playback of goes very slowly when previewing complex files in the timeline."
"In this case yes, I can most certainly see a performance increase as your machine is still not too old and a RAM increase will help it for sure I just can't tell you by how much.
I own the same machine as yours (except for mine having 2.9ghz and i7, and 8GB of ram) so I think it's safe to say for me that the RAM increase will help you for sure."
That statement of mine answers your question you just asked

  • How can I better improve the color of images between Photoshop and Premiere?

I have trouble getting true colors between Photoshop and Premiere CS6.
What can I do to solve this situation?

Premiere Pro works internally with colors in an RGB (red, green, blue) color space. If you want to edit video clips you create in Photoshop in Premiere Pro, create the clips in RGB.
If you want to broadcast the final movie it is best to ensure, in Photoshop, that the colors in your image are broadcast-safe. Assign the appropriate destination color space—for example, SDTV (Rec. 601)—to the document in Photoshop.
You can refer to some suggestion as below:

  • How do I download Premiere CS6 with Encore?

I am putting together a wedding video and updated all my apps including Premiere to CC and uninstalled Encore, thinking there was a CC version. Well, I need to burn this video to a DVD with a cool menu and had one already created in Encore but can't use it since it's installed. I saw in another forum message that you have to redownload the entire Premiere CS6 family, but when I signed into my Adobe ID at CreativeCloud.com, found Premiere CS6, then selected Download Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, it opened the old Creative Cloud Download Manager, but Premiere CS6 never appeared.
I thought this was because I still had Premiere CS6 installed, so I uninstalled it, thinking it would now work. I restarted my Macbook Pro and when I select the download, it still opens the Download Manager and Premiere CS6 never ever comes up. How can I get Premiere CS6 back on my computer. I need it to finish this video and I'm on a deadline.

  • Support for nvidia gtx-980 for after effects and premiere

Can someone tell me when Adobe is going to give CUDA support for the Nvidia gtx-980 video cards in After Effects and Premiere CS6?  I purchased this card specifically for those programs, and DON'T want to do a subscription to Creative Cloud.  I purchased the Master Collection through Adobe, and understand that CC versions support it.  Why can't Adobe issue a btch file or update to include these cards.  I am aware of OpenGl support, but I would like to add my new card.  I also just purchased an i7-4790K to upgrade from i5-3570 to help speed up rendering, but would really like to see the video card supported.

    The simple answer is no.
