AVCHD Archive Strategy

I just purchased a Canon Vixia HF100 for personal use. I wanted to back up the AVCHD files prior to importing into Final Cut or iMovie (I wanted to back up the raw files prior to the conversion that takes place upon import).
My thought was to use Toast 9 do backup to DVD. When I open the AVCHD pane with my camera connected nothing shows up.

Don't use Toast. Just copy the entire PRIVATE directory to your hard drive. Then if you want to burn them to DVDROM, use the Finder...

  • Put Together A Data Archiving Strategy And Execute It Before Embarking On Sap Upgrade

A significant amount is invested by organizations in a SAP upgrade project. However few really know that data archiving before embarking on SAP upgrade yields significant benefits not only from a cost standpoint but also due to reduction in complexity during an upgrade. This article not only describes why this is a best practice  but also details what benefits accrue to organizations as a result of data archiving before SAP upgrade. Avaali is a specialist in the area of Enterprise Information Management.  Our consultants come with significant global experience implementing projects for the worlds largest corporations.
    Archiving before Upgrade
It is recommended to undertake archiving before upgrading your SAP system in order to reduce the volume of transaction data that is migrated to the new system. This results in shorter upgrade projects and therefore less upgrade effort and costs. More importantly production downtime and the risks associated with the upgrade will be significantly reduced. Storage cost is another important consideration: database size typically increases by 5% to 10% with each new SAP software release – and by as much as 30% if a Unicode conversion is required. Archiving reduces the overall database size, so typically no additional storage costs are incurred when upgrading.
It is also important to ensure that data in the SAP system is cleaned before your embark on an upgrade. Most organizations tend to accumulate messy and unwanted data such as old material codes, technical data and subsequent posting data. Cleaning your data beforehand smoothens the upgrade process, ensure you only have what you need in the new version and helps reduce project duration. Consider archiving or even purging if needed to achieve this. Make full use of the upgrade and enjoy a new, more powerful and leaner system with enhanced functionality that can take your business to the next level.
Archiving also yields Long-term Cost Savings
By implementing SAP Data Archiving before your upgrade project you will also put in place a long term Archiving Strategy and Policy that will help you generate on-going cost savings for your organization. In addition to moving data from the production SAP database to less costly storage devices, archived data is also compressed by a factor of five relative to the space it would take up in the production database. Compression dramatically reduces space consumption on the archive storage media and based on average customer experience, can reduce hardware requirements by as much as 80% or 90%. In addition, backup time, administration time and associated costs are cut in half. Storing data on less costly long-term storage media reduces total cost of ownership while providing users with full, transparent access to archived information.

  • Toast 10 Question (AVCHD Archive)

Sorry is this is in the wrong place but I really didn't know where to post it!
Hi, I'm trying to do a AVCHD archive of my camcorder, its a Sony HDR-SR8 PAL model.
I purchased Toast 10 Pro for the sole reason of doing this. When I connect my camcorder Toast recognizes it and says it'll take ten DVD's to archive what's already in my camcorder.
When I insert a blank DVD and hit record for the first time I got the following message:
"could not record the disc because of a mac os error result code = 50"
Then when I tried again I got a message saying "data will span 0 (zero) discs" and when I hit ok nothing happens.
This is so confusing why its not working and I would really appreciate any help to solve the problem.
Let me know if you need any more info and thank you to anyone that can help
    Mac OS X 10.5.6
    Toast 10 Pro
    24" Alu iMac
    2.4Ghz and 2GB RAM
    Sony HDR-SR8 PAL model
    Burning using DVD+R's

Sorry, mate. I dont blame you for looking for an answer wherever you can get it.
I think the answer is, that its roxio toast and you will not get an answer. I have tried searching and searching for roxio errors to no avail. Its not an apple program, sorry to say and really should be offered with a trial.
My example: I have roxio toast 9, and all I wanted to to was burn the AIC files from iMovie into a blu-ray disc. Fretted for months, but the error would show up ALWAYS at the end of the encode (after some 6 hours of encoding.) My only theory is that there was a limit on the number of AIC files I could add. I dont know. But I found nothing in the documentation or from users. Just a theory.
Then toast 10 came out. Guess what. The same process I tried with 9 works every time.
I see posts all the time with people trying to get help, and either no one answer.
    1. Maybe try uninstalling and reinstalling.
    2. Perhaps you can find a work-around where you break up the content yourself and try a smaller archive attempt. Perhaps move all of your .mts files off the camera onto a harddrive, except for ONE clip. See if it archives properly.
    3. If the camera takes a memory stick, then record a 20 sec clip and see if that imports with the same settings.
    4. Search the first few clips on the camera. Do they still play back thoroughly? Perhaps one is corrupt and deleting it fixes the problems. You never know, one of the preview thumbnails could be corrupt and toast depends on that file to start its index.
    5. Try a different brand of disk.
See here. The problem is common. http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/os-x-operating-system/50779-mac-os-error-result -code-50-a.html

  • Archival Strategy for IMAP?

I've been reading through the forums and I suppose my issue is different enough to warrant a new thread.
I have recently switched to IMAP. I have several accounts that I track, and dozens of subfolders into which I route and filter emails as they come in.
With POP, everything was stored locally, and I didn't have to worry about disk usage. This is no longer the case. So I would like to implement an auto-archival process that copies messages older than 90 days to a mailbox on my local machine.
Here's the catch: I want to preserve my folder structure.
Let's say I have this folder:
    Inbox
    |_account1
    |_subfolder1
    |_subfolder2
    |_subfolder3
Basically I want to set up an automator action or a set of rules within Mail.app that periodically looks through the folders and moves any emails older than 90 days to it's corresponding folder on my local drive. In other words, mail in subfolder1 would go to a similarly named subfolder1 on my mac.
This is a different technique than simply synchronizing my IMAP directories in that the contents of the archived folders will be different than those of the ones on the server.
So far, I have been unable to find or create an automator action that looks for files older than a non-specified date (a pet peeve that I hope is addressed in Leopard). And even if I could, I have not found a way to have either automator or Mail.app itself apply rules to a specific folder (account, yes, but not a folder).
If anyone has developed an archival strategy that works in these conditions, please let me know.
    Many thanks,
    Steve

    Hi Terry,
what we se usually is that customer run one company-wide SLT box. The monitoring and all operation aspects are easier to handle. For example, you can patch the SLT system independently from the source systems. The general recommendation for the SLT box is to have it close to your HANA -> why? The RFC compression is much better than the DB compression. From a performance perspective I do not see an advantage when you have SLT on the source system. In real life these are only figures, the overall network performance should not be a problem. We have customers with one central SLT box next to Hana and more than 80 ECC systems globally distributed.
    Best, Tobias

  • Partial AVCHD Archive - only selected clips - is this possible?

A have a couple of video cameras with built-in flash memory, and iMovie (8.0.5) will import the clips fine. I want to archive some events to DVD -- but not the entire contents of the camera memory.
In the Import from Camera box, there is an Archive All button, but I only want to archive some of the clips. Is this possible?
I also have Toast 10.0.4, but again it seems to want to backup my entire camera memory onto a number of DVDs. I just want to send the raw AVCHD files from 1 event to someone, hopefully on a single disk. Thanks, Jeff

Ok here is something I just learned and I hope I can describe it correctly. First I have about a year and half of saved mts avchd files before switching over to the Mac completely now. What I could not understand fully was that if I connect my camera to the mac imovie can read the files and import the video fine and quickly but can not do anything with my already saved files. I could use a extra converter but it would take hours instead of minutes. So I played with the archive format and came up with this solution if you want to save just the avchd files as backups or to send to someone who can do the same.
    ok now what I learned:
On my video camera I made 5 recordings( recorded blank wall) of atleast 4 minutes long (to cover my longest clip saved) and then used imovie to make an archive of it. In the archive folders stream folder I deleted the mts files there. After that I copy the earlier mts (5 at a time) files I recorded in the stream folder and renamed them using the automater for ease, the same numbering the camera used in my case 00000.mts 00001.mts etc... then in imovie import from the archive. It will come up with the correct thumbnails but the incorrect times of the clip, but imovie will import with the correct times as long as the clips importing are shorter then the dummy recorded clips (thats why I made them 4 minutes each) if you try to import clips longer then it will stop short and the clip will get trimmed. Also if you do it this way then you need the same number of clips in the archive as it was first saved or it may not detect correctly in imovie. I also noticed that one of my cameras I needed to move the bdmv folder to the main folder the archive is ( ../volume/camera archive/bdmv/...). You can make your own dummy archive with as many clips as you need, just make sure the same amount in in there when importing. So far it seems to work and alot better then converting and archiving everything in the imovie way for future recordings ( i like to rename and organize my .mts files for backup). That way if you just what certain files saved you can save the mts or mt2s files to dvd renaming files to make easier to locate the ones you want later and have the dummy archive for importing into imovie.
I hope I explained it good enough. If you have questions it may take a few days for me to reply since I use the library for internet access (no connection at home)
    good luck

    hi,
    Archiving,
There are both technical and legal reasons for archiving application data. Data Archiving:
    · Resolves memory space and performance problems caused by large volumes of transaction data
    · Ensures that data growth remains moderate so that the database remains manageable in the long term
    · Ensures that companies can meet the legal requirements for data storage in a cost-efficient manner
    · Ensures that data can be reused at a later date, for example, in new product development

  • Recreate AVCHD archive? Which program would you recommend?

    Free is best!

ClipWrap does not recreate AVCHD camera archives for isolated MTS files; it is useless for that purpose. It can however do two useful things. First, it can rewrap the h264 video clip from inside the MTS file into an m4v container that can be imported to FCPX (unlike the MTS file). This rewrapping doesn't alter the h264 stream in any way.  Alternatively it can transcode the clip from h264 to ProRes, a step that is essential if the MTS contains 1080p60 material. Recreating an AVCHD folder structure is something it can't do.

  • Mail back-up and archive strategy.

    Hi, all.
I am new to Mail as I just recently switched from Entourage. One thing I have always done to avoid database corruption and crashes was to periodically export the content of my folders and mailboxes and then empty then so the database wouldn't grow too big (a constant threat to Entourage).
Some questions since I am new to Mail:
    1. Can the Mail database experience the same problems? Where is the database located and what would be considered a size limit, if any, for the database before it became prone to crash and/or corruption?
    2. What strategy do you use for exporting mail and archiving different folders and mailboxes? Are there any third party applications worth using for this process? I have seen some that archive Mail mailboxes as PDF files. I would prefer for them to be archived as text in another database so that I can search past mails if it become necessary.
    Thank you in advance.

I am not currently using Time Machine.
Whatever backup method you use should be backing up the mail files. If it's not, use a different method, such as Time Machine.
    how would export work ?
Select the mailboxes you want to export in the mailbox list. Then select
    Mailbox ▹ Export Mailbox...
    from the menu bar.
In case I want to save the entire Mail database where is this database located in OS X ?
Triple-click the line below to select it:
    ~/Library/Mail
Right-click or control-click the highlighted line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
    from the contextual menu.

  • Record Center Archival Strategy/Best Practise

I am familiar with record center but I would like some guidance on how to do some of the things.
Scenario : We have 4 site collections, 2 site collections are containing team sites which are built for different departments and one site collection is project site collection which contains sites for on going project and last site collection is for record
center. There are different content types associated with each of libraries in above sites.
-- From the team sites in those two site collections, only few documents from document libraries need to be archived (Here I would like to know, should I create a separate library in record center for each library in source site -- in this approach record
center will have numerous libraries or just create one library for each team site and archive all documents in it -- this approach has drawback of finding document)
Same way for project site collection where once project is ended they would like to archive all libraries : should I archive each separate library or archive all project libraries for that project into one library on record site.

  • Data archiving strategy

    Hi,
Does anybody know of any good book/article about strategies to archive old data from an OLTP type Oracle database? If it has any hands-on examples it's even better. Since that's probably a common requirement, I hope there exists some material about this....
Maybe it's better if I describe the requirements I have and the solutions I thought of. We have an 11gR2 database where the growth of data is approximately 30GB/month. The largest part of it is due to some log activity tables which store XML data in CLOB columns (not XMLTYPE). None of the tables are partitioned. We still have some time till the disks will be full, but I'd like to establish a process to periodically archive old data to tape. For now we don't need data mining functionalities (i.e. a data warehouse) since I'd only like to archive log tables for legal compliance.
Roughly, I thought of something like the following:
    1) Since XMLs are only inserted once and never updated again, I thought to convert them to SECUREFILE LOBs and apply HIGH compression on them. Now they are defined as BASICFILE CLOBs.
    2) Turn log tables into range partitioned or interval partioned ones (partition by month). This should have been done before the application was put in production, but unfortunately it wasn't.
    3) At the end of the month exchange/truncate the partition
    4) Somehow export the old exchanged to tape (datapump export; transportable tablespaces if they are moved/created in its own tablespace; maybe using RMAN and READ-ONLY tablespaces?)
Anyway I have some questions/doubts, like:
    1) How to archive data from multiple tables if data for a single entity is spread across many tables and some of them are partitioned and some are not. For example if there's a parent-child relationship and the child is partitioned but the parent is not.
    2) Which technique is advisable for exporting/archiving data out the database? As I wrote above it could be expdp, transportable TS, RMAN
    3) How to deal with table definitions changes in the OLTP database when an old partition has to be plugged again in the database?
So if anyone knows any good paper about questions I wrote about, I'll appreciate it very much.
    Thanks in advance and regards,
    Jure

  • AVCHD archive importing questions

Hello. I have a Canon HF10. I am new to video editing and am just now digging in to learn iMovie, so up until tonight, I've been recording on the camera, and when I need space on the camera, simply moving the entire folder structure on the camera's internal hard drive to a firewire external drive. Now I have iMovie 09 and I'm ready to start using that footage.
My understanding is at this point I would need to use the "import camera" archive feature. When I do that it asks me to find the archive, so I go to the original folder structure on my external drive and try to select the folder with all the footage (I'm actually unclear which folder this would be as I see AVCHDTN folder, BDMV folder, CANON folder, and there are files and/or folders inside of each of these), but each folder has all its items greyed out and when I try to select any of them iMovie returns the following error:
Folder is Not a Camera Archive
Please select a folder that is a camera archive, then click Import.
    What am I doing wrong?

I ran into this myself. I had to quit and re-launch iMovie to get it to import my archive. You might want to reboot your computer as well.
When you re-launch iMovie got to the root level of the archive which should be the name of your camera. You might have to re-launch a few times to get it to work.

  • Best Archiving Strategy?

I have many hours of video of the kids that is on mini DVD tape.
Now is the time to drag out the firewire 400 deck and move these off to a hard drive.
Any advice on the best way to handle this so the kids can make sense of it all, assuming I can keep migrating it to new storage methods!
    I have iMovie, anything else?
    Thanks i advance
    Cas

Do you have the firewire 400 cable too?! I think that's all you need. What you will want to do is just save it into Events folders that are stored on the new External HD. Make sure you have formatted it as Mac OS Extended using Disk Utility (it's inside the Utilities folder inside of the Applications Folder). As a Mac formatted disk you will have full access to the video clips from programs like iMovie.

  • 0FI_GL_4 - How to prevent open items from being archived (SARA)

    Hello,
We would like to archive data from our 0FI_GL_4 InfoCube using the SARA transaction. We can only specify a date as the criteria for archiving (e.g. the posting date). However, we may still have open items (that are candidate for archiving based on the posting date) that shouldn't actually be archived because they may be cleared at a later date. I am surprised that SAP doesn't provide a standard mechanism to handle the open items in archiving. Has anybody faced this situation ? Any solution ?
    Many thanks.
    François.

    Hello Francios,
In BW Archiving, there are no business complete rules, so GL items that are "open" in R3, would get archived in BW.  Another thing to consider in your BW archiving strategy is that when a fiscal year of data is archived, a write protection is placed for that time period.  So, if you need to load data into that object, the data that has been archived would need to be reloaded prior to being able to run the load job.  Then, the data would need to be re-archived.
    Hope this helps.
