  • New to inDesign - looking for help with creating booklets

    Looking for a tutorial/answer on how to set up my book so that the pages can be printed, folded in half (like a brochure/magazine) so that I can bind the pages myself in a book.   Not sure if my page size would be what I want the finished book size to be or if I need to double the page width setup size, because I will be folding them in half to put the book together.  I know there must be a magic button as well that will sort the pages and keep them in the right order, once I fold them.   Does this make sense to anyone?

  • Desperate for help to create a script!

    I know nothing about scripting, but I'm hoping Acrobat has a script that would work to calculate the percentage of two numbers in form fields. I work for a police dept. and need to calculate the percentage of crimes solved vs. crimes committed (ex: 5 robberies, 2 of these are solved, so I need the third form field to calculate the solved percentage of the crimes). Can anyone SAVE me, please?

    Here's a custom calculate script you can use for the % cleared field. It assumes the actual number field is named "an.1" and the offenses cleared field is named "oc.1". It sets the value to "0.0%" if either of the input is zero or blank, which you might want to change to something else like an empty string ("").
    // Custom Calculate script for "% Cleared" field
    (function () {
        // Get the values of the inputs, as numbers
        var actual_number = +getField("an.1").value;
        var offenses_cleared = +getField("oc.1").value;
        // Set this field's value. Round to 1 decimal point and add % sign
        if (actual_number !== 0) {
            event.value = util.printf("%.1f", offenses_cleared / actual_number * 100) + "%";
        } else {
            event.value = "0.0%";
    Since it sounds like you will want to be doing the same calculation for several rows, this really should be made into a document-level function that can be called by all of the % cleared fields. If you continue the field naming scheme and named the fields in the rows like "an.2", "oc.2", "an.3", "oc.3". etc. the function could be:
    // Function in a document-level JavaScript
    function percent_cleared() {
        // Get the terminal field number of the field that called this function
        var fn = event.target.name.split(".")[1];
        // Get the values of the inputs, as numbers
        var actual_number = +getField("an." + fn).value;
        var offenses_cleared = +getField("oc." + fn).value;
        if (actual_number !== 0) {
            event.value = util.printf("%.1f", offenses_cleared / actual_number * 100) + "%";
        } else {
            event.value = "0.0%";
    and then called it like this in the calculate event of each "% cleared" field:
    // Custom Calculate script
    percent_cleared();
    If you're unfamiliar with creating document-level JavaScripts, post again.
    Edit:  fixed typo

  • Free AVCHD converter for Leopard

    I'm getting a bunch of .mts files from my brother.
    VLC does convert to (for example) .asf, but it's jerky and just bad.
    Are there any free apps (no trial etc) that can convert .mts to .mov, avi, etc?
    (I do have Final Cut, but it's like bringing up a Ferrari to go to the store for milk, while you can take the bike, sorta...)

    Turned out that Toast does the job. (Better than VLC, although Toast is not free...)

  • AVC - Any Video Converter for Mac

    Hello,
    I've been in search of a "complete" replacement for (now discontinued) VisualHub for converting "many"
    video formats to the ones I use most frequently (DV, DVD, iTunes to name just 3).
    Today, I found "Any Video Converter for Mac"
    <http://www.any-video-converter.com/mac-software.php> but want to see if there are other Mac users out there, uh, using it. It's shareware: $44.95, so I'd like to know if it's worth the money b4 plunking down that much cash.
    Anybody here who has a "review" on this app would be helpful.

    Brie,
    Just the 3-minute clip length on the demo. This prevents testing it on full length videos when the original cannot be edited "natively" by Mac OSX. That is, when you have a five minute clip in .wmv format, no editing means the clip can't be snipped to less then 3 minutes for testing with AVC.
    The obvious: Flip4Mac can be used for this but that's another $29.95 (or more- it's tier priced based on editing capabilities) on top of the $44.95 for the AVC app.
    The other thing which caused me to ask for reviews by users of the paid version is that some formats required downloading additional codecs from the developer of AVC. I know from experience that installing codecs "willy-nilly" can lead to system instability. So it's either pay for the version of Flip4Mac which can edit the wmv type files or take a chance that the additional codec from the developer will let me edit a longer than 3-min. wmv file (with the aforementioned risk).
    This is a relatively new developer, and I am not an early adopter. Logically, I thought there might be one of those early adopters out there who could point the way for the rest of us (video editors). The obvious goal: making more video stock available for use in iMovie projects.

  • AVCHD Media for PowerPC based hardware

    I have posted this earlier in an other thread but my posting has so far been ignored, so I am trying a new thread:
    We have just invested over 1500$ to upgrade to FCStudio 2 as well as stashing 3 more gigas of SDRAM into a G5, as I need to edit HD video from 2 different media: HDV and SDHC cards with AVCHD formated video content!
    Obviously, Apple hasn't been shy trying (and succeding) in selling me the upgrade from Production Suite to FC Studio 2 as well as recommanding me to install at least 4Go of Ram to handle uncompressed HDVideo, but forgetting entirely to point out that my set up would not work with AVCHD media (as I am such an old customer that runs a real nice but 3 year old PowerPC !)
    Having installed FCStudio 2 and the extra 3 Go of Ram, I got really quite confused discovering in the FCP6 "Working with High Def Infos" one fateful line stating that AVCHD media is unsupported on Power PC based hardware! Right after installing FCStudio 2, I did install the Upgrade to FCP 6.01 and the Note that goes together with that upgrade proudly states that the AVCHD codec is NOW supported! (But again it is not saying that AVCHD is NOT supported on Power PC based systems).
    Finally, I have tried to List and Import some AVCHD footage but to no awail. Just getting the darn warning cooly stating that my AVCHD media is unsupported on my PowerPC based hardware.
    So my question is: If the VOLTAIC people are able to supply a seemingly perfectly good AVCHD converter for 30 US$ (while giving away half of its price for cancer research), you would think that the FCP people or the QT people would have been able to do the same! I have no idea why this is not the case! I don't like to assume things but one thought is kind of nagging at me: Could it just be that the Apple marketing people told the FCP or QT people to drop this idea as they really now have to have me buy a new Intel based machine ... Am I missing something ? Am I confused ? Am I frustrated ? YES, at least for the two last questions.
    I still have to discover if the AVCHD converter will work with my PowerPC based hardware ! If not, what would be the way to convert my AVCHD files to another HD format supported by my system ?

    FC6 deals with AVCHD by converting to AIC or ProRez. This is not a native solution. Yes you need to convert, and I can't remember if this Voltiac works on PPC or Intel so that may be a source for you.
    To transcode in real time means converting right out of the camera if it has an HDMI port. If it does then the conversion happens in real time from a processor inside the camera and converts to uncompressed HD. Then you would need an HDMI to HD-SDI converter to send this to an HD-SDI Capture Card if you G5 was a PCI-X slot so you can use one. Have I lost you yet? I hope you have a fat wallet for this.
    One way for sure to work in real time is with a new Mac Pro and a Black Magic Intensity HDMI capture card for those who want solid solutions to these small cameras.
    Does this help you now?
    Good Luck

  • Creating Flash Video

    Hello Everyone and thanks for your help in advance.  I am extremely new to Flash (using CS4) and want to create flash videos for display in web pages.  I have used a few of the wizards and have gotten some rough, very amateurish looking results, but at least they work.  I owuld now like to create a more professional looking product that has a nice looking player skin, a thumbnail preview that is typically included, and some sort of "Click to Play" button.  Would someone be able to point me to a tutorial of this or walk me through the basic steps?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Here are a few links that might help you

  • Converter for MTS File?

    Is any converter for convert MTS file to quick time?
    do anyone know it?
    Thx...

    MTS format is a high-definition MPEG, AVC, H.264 transport stream video file format which commonly used by HD camcorders such as Sony, Canon, Panasonic.MTS files are used primarily with Sony hardware. Camcorders make use of MTS in the form of AVCHD, a recording format made specifically for camcorders. Some camcorder models from Canon also use MTS files. These files are also present on Blu-ray disc compilations, therefore they are capable of storing quite a large amount of information and data tracks.
    Since mts is not a mac suitable video format, so it's necessary to convert it with mts converter for mac, you can choose the output video format as quicktime mp4.
    Hope you resolve your problem asap!

  • How do you create a dynamic playlist?

    I want a playlist for my videos, preferably with thumbnails like the flash player Adobe offered with Popeye sample/test videos. How do you configure the player for that? I believe it's by Kaltura, and their website shows that feature but I can't find it mentioned in the documentation. Thanks!

    Hi mfuller52654,
    Currently in Strobe MediaPlayback we have support for:
    - simple playlists (m3u format): no thumbnails or title, example in http://osmf.org/dev/1.5gm/StrobeMediaPlayback.html?src=playlists/playlist.m3u
    - JS playlists, without autoadvance - a sample can be found at http://osmf.org/dev/1.5gm/jsdemo.html
    I think the second option can help you create your thunbnailed playlists.
    Tell me if this helped,
    S.

  • Need help with creating a brush

    Hi guys,
    I wanted to ask for help with creating a brush (even a link to a tutorial will be goon enough ).
    I got this sample:
    I've created a brush from it, and i'm trying to get this kind of result:
    but it's only duplicates it and gives me this result:
    Can someone help me please understand what i need to define in order to make the brush behave like a continues brush instead of duplicate it?
    Thank you very much
    shlomit

    what you need to do is make a brush that looks like the tip of a brush. photoshop has several already but you can make your own that will be better.
    get a paintbrush and paint a spot kind of like what you did but dont paint a stroke. make it look kindof grungy. then make your brush from that, making sure to desaturate it and everything.
    EDIT:
    oh, and if you bring the fill down to like 10-20% your stroke will look better

  • How do you "import" AVCHD 60P from Canon camcorder so it can be "converted" for iMovie?

    Low-tech guy here.  I don't know video formats and I don't edit video often.  I used my new Canon VIXIA HF R400 camcorder to record high-quality video (AVCHD 60P) not realizing when I connected my camera to my MacBook Pro the video does not even appear for import onto the computer.  I realize I have to convert the format to one iPhoto and iMovie will recognize, but my question is how do I even get my computer to see the video on my camera so I can drag it into a converter software?  I see several chats about how to convert, which assumes the software can see the video on the camera - my problem is I can't even get my computer to see the video so I can then import and covert it.  I've tried Bigasoft AVCHD converter software and the AVCHD Converter by iFunia, but neither software sees the video.  (The Bigasoft doesn't even recognize my camcorder.  iFunia recognizes the camera but doesn't see the video clips.)

    Thank you for trying to help me.  I may just be hopeless.  As I mentioned I don't know my video formats (though I've tried to learn now).  I just upgraded to Maverics (thank you!) and was pleased to see that now iMovie recognizes my Canon camcorder, but it does not "see" my individual video clips.  The thumbnails are just blank and I'm not able to check mark any of them (see image).  Maybe the format is just too high-quality for iMovie?  It's AVCHD 60P (or 1080p?)  I don't know what the difference is between the two.  iMovie used to be so simple I didn't need to know that.  I just wanted to put together a simple movie quickly.  I'll have to let go of the dream and let go of iMovie!  LOL  Again, thanks for trying to help!
