Avchd files import troubleshoot

Attempting to import AVCHD files from an SDHC card shot in 1080/30p on a Panasonic HMC150 into iMovie '09 (version 8.0.6). It recognizes the clips and lets me play them back in the import screen but when I press "import checked" it makes the "bounce" (for lack of a better name) sound and does nothing. I've looked everywhere and can't figure out why. Brand no iMac so it's not an issue of capture space. Any help troubleshooting would be much appreciated!

I have the Panasonic vixia with HD1080i.
1. you have to have an Intel mac for the import to work
2.You have to drag the clips(highlight) down to the bottom of the log and transfer to get it going, or add 1 by 1 on the right hand side page.
3.Often it takes 5 times to get the cards to load
4. If you copy the complete card onto a drive and try to import that way FCp does not like it(I know makes no sense)
5 the work around for that is (after a 5 day shoot) is to purchase CLIPWRAP. This worked for me but it is slow-but the best(I tested like 10 programs)
6. I get very unhappy with having to have 10 software programs to convert various freaky clients files but I guess now we all have to do it.
Good Luck all

  • AVCHD file Import via iMovie then ?possible FCE can import these files?

I am new to Apple. I want to Upgrade from iMovie 08, to FCE HD.
I believe that FCE DOES NOT import AVCHD files / format., however, iMovie 08
DOES! Before I Buy FCE, Has anyone with FCE successfully tried using iMovie 08 to import AVCHD video, then , with FCE running, import the iMovies 08 / AVCHD
files ( which I believe are uncompressed ' *.mov (movie) files ), into
    Final Cut Express HD?

iMovie 08 converts the files to Apple Intermediate Codec when it ingests the material. That's the same format used by FCE.

  • No Audio During .MTS (AVCHD) File Import

    Dear Forum Members,
I had a friend who came over to Australia for a holiday a couple of days ago and I got abit of footage.
I have a bit of experience composing videos but i am not too sure why PP is playing up on me during this occassion.
After importing the footage with no problems, I dragged it towards the timeline and then dropped it.
Only finding that PP is displaying it has no audio.
Please see the attached image as a reference.
    I have done the following:
Update PP Cs5 to the latest version
    Reinstallion
    Installtion of AC3
If you could give me some suggestions, that would be great.
    Thanks,
    Andy

The "approved" way to get MTS from camera to computer hard drive is to copy the entire folder, not just the individual files
While your files may PLAY outside PPro, there is "metadata" contained in the folder structure that is (often) needed to be able to EDIT the files
Do you have the entire folder from the camera... or just the individual files?
About not remembering... create a "notes" file and keep records

  • Video on imported AVCHD files is too fast

I recently got a Panasonic Lumix that shoots AVCHD video. I upgraded to iMovie '09, since it is supposed to be AVCHD-compatible. However, the AVCHD files I imported in iMovie have the video playing super fast, while the audio is normal. I've tried switching between NTSC and PAL formats, with no change.
Anyone else experience this? Anyone know why this is happening? Help please?

  • Bizarre problem trying to import .MTS (AVCHD) files into PSE7 Organizer

    Hi
    b Summary of problem:
    *I recently upgraded to PSE 7 / PRE 7
*I am trying to import .MTS (AVCHD) files into the PSE7 Organizer
*I get a "...did not contain any supported file types..." error on attempted import
    b HOWEVER...
*I can edit same footage in PRE7
*This footage is automatically added to the Organizer
*I can play this footage in the PSE7 organizer but generating thumbnails takes ages
*Camera: Sony HDR SR12 producing .MTS files (full 1920x1080i HD)
    *PC: Intel Core i7 940 CPU, 6GB RAM, RADEON HD 4870 512MB
    *OS: Vista 64 bit
    b Detail:
I have recently upgraded my PRE/PSE bundle to ver 7 primarily because the new version of PRE boasts support for AVCHD.
Having installed the new software I quickly tried editing footage in PRE7 with video taken on my Sony HDR SR12 camera (footage taken in full 1920x1080i HD) and it works! Hoorah! I can now finally edit AVCHD footage in it's native format using PRE. Thank you Adobe!
But my joy was very shortlived because when I tried to import some other footage from the same batch into my PSE7 Video Catalog it wouldn't work. I got a pop up box containing the following error:
i "Nothing was imported. The file(s) or folder(s) selected to import did not contain any supported file types, or the files are already in the catalog."
Under this message is a list of the files that I tried to import. Next to each one there is a reason (it's the same reason for each clip):
i "Reason: The file is damaged or is a format that cannot be included in the Organizer."
To import files I use the following method: File / Get Photos and Videos / From Files and Folders
HOWEVER, the files that I imported directly into PRE7 in order to edit them have (surprise, surprise!) automatically been added PSE7 Organizer's Catalog. It takes a quite a while to generate a thumbnail for each clip but it does eventually do it and when it does I can play that footage in PSE7.
Just in case you're confused by this stage... If I try and manually add files to the PSE7 Organizer it doesn't work BUT if I edit that footage in PRE7 and then load the PSE7 Organizer I see the footage has been automatically added. This makes no sense whatsoever!
Am I doing something really stupid here? Why oh why will the PSE7 Organizer not import .MTS (AVCHD) files?!
NB: While searching for a solution to this problem I have, thanks to this Forum, found out about the K-Lite Codec Pack. I downloaded and installed the Basic pack v4.4.5 and now I can, at least, play my .MTS video files in Windows Media Player... I wish I had found out about that a couple of months ago because it would have saved me from buying Cyberlink PowerDVD 8!
Please someone help before I lose the plot.
    Thanks

    Hi
I'd just like to add an update to this post.
    b Summary:
*K-Lite Codec Pack clashes with Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) software
*Analysis of video in Sony's PMB is well worth doing!
*You can Drag and Drop clips from Sony's PMB into PRE7
    b Detail:
As you've probably gathered I have now settled on using Sony's Picture Motion Browser (PMB) to Catalog all my video. Sorry Adobe to talk about someone elses product but the Adobe Organizer just can't cope with AVCHD footage no matter how you manage to import it! It's far too sluggish and my PC has an Intel Core i7 940 CPU with 6GB RAM and a 10,000 RPM HDD!
Anyway, in my first post you'll have read me raving about the K-Lite Codec Pack but sadly I've had to uninstall it because it kept on causing PMB to crash. PMB runs much smoother and quicker WITHOUT that codec pack. Something about it clashed with PMB. The once agile PMB became sluggish and unresponsive.
Having now removed the codec pack PMB is back to being agile and generaly lovely.
To view AVCHD footage outside of PMB I have reverted to using Cyberlink's PowerDVD 8 - there's always a pregnant pause between double-clicking on the clip and it playing but that's the only drawback.
If you are going to use Sony's PMB for cataloging your video collection (and I recommend you do so BUT only if you have AVCHD footage - otherwise stick to Adobe's Organiser) then I can fully recommend "Analyzing" all of your footage. This takes time and a bit of patience because it kept stopping for no apparent reason but would readily start up again (without having to do anything else) BUT once it's done it'll reward you with the following:
*Filter on any combination of Scenery, People, Smiles - e.g. with a click of a button you can isolate footage that contains smiles, etc
*Face Search - if you select some or all of the footage in the right-hand pane it will then put a small thumbnail for all of the different faces in that selected footage in the bottom "Face Search" pane. If you then click on one of those thumbnails it will jump to the clip(s) that contain that face and grey out all the other clips
*Expand Videos - This tool is brilliant! In normal viewing mode you get a thumbnail of the video whether you're in Folder view, Calender view or Detail List view. If, however, you select "Expand Videos" from the tool bar it will show you a series of frames contained within that clip. You can choose from "Highlights" or various regular intervals (5 secs, 10 sec, 30 sec, 1 min, etc). The Highlights option does a pretty good job of picking out the significant changes within the clip
Lastly, I have discovered that you can drag a clip from Sony's PMB into PRE7. It won't let you put it directly onto the Timeline but it will let you drop it into the Project file list (found under the Edit tab).
I do hope that this info has helped others like me who are trying to get to grips with editing and cataloging AVCHD footage.

  • Importing video from Sony HDR-CX410 FCP 6.0.6 will not recognise AVCHD files. what is the solution?

First I have to admit I'm not technical in any way so I'm easily confused so please forgive me if my question sounds unprofessional.
The computer is a Mac desk top tower with Lion OS x 2x2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon with an  internal hard drive plus a number of remote hard drives.
I'm using Final cut pro 6.0.6 to edit video.
The question is, up until now I've been using material shot on mini DV tapes, then digitised into the computer via the camera. As this format is getting long in the tooth I decided to get one of the latest DVCAM cameras, I went for the Sony HDR-CX410.
It was not until I had purchased the camera & shot a few test seq. & then tried to down load into the computer that I found out that Final cut does not recognise the AVCHD files on the SD card.I've tried importing from the camera as well as a card reader with no result.
I've looked at a number of sites including Apple support community where it looks like this is a major issue for many people but I can't find anyone who is using the same camera. I wondered if this issue is something you have covered in the magazine, if so please let me know which copy, if not can you help in any way. It appears that Final cut proX may be able to translate the AVCHD files but I'm not sure. Am I right in thinking that if I do upgrade to FCPX I will still have to convert the files, if so would you recommend a suitable software program.  Is there any reason why Apple make it so difficult to edit this AVCHD format when all the latest cameras are using it, perhaps its time to change back to a PC?

    Eric,
FCP 6.0.2 (compared to previous version) comes with the latest improvement and support for AVCHD.
    However, here is a suggestion:
In Log&Transfer (top frame) on the right of *search field* there are three buttons, click on the one showing a little arrow-down and a sort of little star. Choose preferences then in the *transcode to* section click on those two tiny arrows pointing one up and the other down and choose Apple Intermediate Codec. Can you now transfer? (Add selection to queue)
Once again 6.0.2 might provide better support for your camera.
Use the search tool for more info.
    G.
PS. Please note that some people have had problems with 6.0.2 so get us much info as you can before updating.

  • Huge HD file sizes in iMovie when importing AVCHD files from HD Camcorder

Although several answers have been given on different ways to import HD files from a AVCHD camcorder, in this case a Sony one, the issue is what to do with the HUGE files it creates. I recorded 2 hours of HD content in about 30GB on the camcorder. I can burn those native HVCHD files on DVD's, took 6 of them, and play them on a Blue Ray player in HD. To edit, I tested a sample 50MB file that was about 3 minutes in length. It convered to quicktime file in the same 1920x1080 quality resulted in a file that was about 800MB, looked great, but how do I store or play a 20 minute version of it? iMovie is inadequate to do anything other than produce smaller size files for an iPod or lower quality, unless it is going to be a very short HD movie if doing true HD quality. One of the reasons I took the MAC plunge was the better multimedia capabilities. In this case, Apple (iMove and Final Cut) is behind.
I ended up shifting my HD editing back to a PC with $100 Sony Vegas software that can edit the AVCHD files and author in it. I can produce a DVD with about 25 minutes of edited HD in AVCDH file format and play it. I can also store the finished product in a much smaller space using AVCHD files. I have a 1 TB drive on my Mac that would be consumed if I worked in iMovie with converting all these AVCDH files and kept them in HD quality since it looks like it needs to expand them 12-16 times the AVCHD file size.
Yes, I know I could lower the quality to better work with them in iMovie, but that makes no sense to me. I want to record and edit in the HD format. Seems like these AVCHD cameras are becoming a standard since they are so efficient at storing HD content, iMovie needs to figure out how to edit and store them the same way. Very disappointed in how iMovie handles HD, to me it is NOT very good at handling HD, no good way to store or distribute it.
Am I missing soomething here? I have spent hours looking for a different answer, but have not found one yet? Maybe the next version of iMovie will be better. I like using it for SD DVD authoring, but for HD, did not work at all for me.
    Jon

Interesting you say it is not meant for editing, but there are about a half dozen editor's for windows that will work on these exact files. I know with Sony Vegas that I have the same level of control with frame precision as I do with iMovie so I think there must be more to the story why Apple has not been able to support it like other software manufacturers who support windows. Don't get me wrong, i would love to do the work in iMovie and not have to learn something new. I don't have the storage space to use the HD apple format, that 2 hr of HD in AVCHD would turn into about 500GB then what do I put it on to play it. If the BlueRay standard calls for 25 or 50G disc's and we can get full two hour movies on them today, then they must be using a file format similar to AVCHD to fit on a disc, they cannot be using anything close to what Apple uses for HD files, it is just simple logic and math. So why doesn't Apple finure it out before everyone who starts working in HD comes to the same conclusion that the Apple QT file formats for HD is going to be an issue with space, you can create content, but cannot afford the disc space to store it or play it.

  • How to prevent color banding in AVCHD files on import?

    Hi!
I am trying to import some 1080 60i AVCHD files from my Panasonic G3 camera into iMovie '11. Once the files are imported they show very strong color banding/pixelation, that does not show up if I play the clips on the same computer/screen directly from the SD card in Quicktime player. Here is a screenshot from of the original frame, and here is exported movie.
I am using all default setting for export to Quicktime movie (1080 HD, "Best" quality).
For import I tried so far:
    1. Import into iMovie at full quality from the SD card;
    2. rewrap AVCHD into MOV (with ClipWrap) without resampling then import
    3. convert AVCHD to Apple Intermediate codec (with Clip Wrap), then import
    No difference!
Is it even possible to avoid such banding/pixelation with iMovie or another video editor that's available for free/cheap? If yes, how is it done?
Here is a 40 Mb mts file if you want to try to test your method: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/40852067/00011.MTS
    Will appreciate any advice!
    Thank you in advance,

Finally found a solution to this problem:
Remove saved state for Fireworks CS6 on Mac OS X Mountain Lion
    Quit Fireworks.
In the Finder, navigate to /Users/Your User Name/Library/Saved Application State/com.macromedia.fireworks.savedState
    3 files in folder:
    data.data
    window_1.data
    windows.plist
Prefix files with 'OLD' just to be safe.

  • Importing AVCHD files into FCE without a camera

I have a folder of AVCHD files and am unable to open them via Log and Transfer. I don't have access to the camera, I was given the files already in a folder which I copied to my drive. I believe the folder I have contains the entire AVCHD directory structure. They are not just MTS files.
When I use the import button in Log and Transfer, all the files are grayed out, and when I try to drag any files or folders over to the queue, I get a warning message saying that it contains unsupported media.
I'm guessing this is because it is looking for a camera and there is no camera?
I currently have a workaround where I convert the MTS file using third-party trial software, but before I go and buy another piece of software, is there any way I can import these files from within FCE?

Still grayed out, from the top level on down. I've tried each level. I must not have a complete directory tree then.
    My structure is:
    PRIVATE > AVCHD > AVCHDTN / BDMV / IISVPL > …
Each of the slashes represents a separate folder, and the MTS files are stored in the BDMV > STREAM folder.
I'm told by the camera owner that "PRIVATE" is what the camera automatically names the entire thing and that everything contained within it are the complete contents of the drive. He says that he copies the same thing to a USB drive and it opens fine for him.

  • Can AVCHD files be not copied when imported?

When I import AVCHD files they are copied even though in the preferences I have selected "Leave files in place" and I leave that option checked in the import dialog. Is there any way to prevent AVCHD files from being copied?
Other types of files are not copied when I import them.

My exact specifications and work process:
I use two separate video cameras. One is a Panasonic HDC-TM900K; the other is a Panasonic HDC-TM700K. I record in AVCHD onto SanDisk 32 GB SD cards.
When filming is complete, I copy the entire contents of each separate SD card into its own folder, labelled according to camera and capture date.
In the past, this has allowed me to import into FCP 10.0.x and work directly with the AVCHD files without having to transcode or copy them. I have used this exact process dozens of times since the release of FCP 10.0.x.
Just this most recent time, after upgrading to FCP 10.1, while importing the same AVCHD files from the same SD cards and the same video cameras, the option to "leave files in place" was disabled.
I do understand that FCP 10.1 uses "Libraries" to organize media, and that this is a major change in how it organizes media files. I figured that this change was responsible for the difference in behavior.
I was hoping there was a way to continue to work with AVCHD card folders without having to copy or transcode.

Can't import AVCHD files since i've updated to FCPX 10.03 and OSX 10.7.  Before it worked ok.
When I try to import files from the Camera, or the Memory Stick they end up looking like offline files.  On my other mac (iMac intel core duo 27", with OS 10.6) I can still import these files.

Make sure you don't have Proxy checked in Playback Preferences.

  • How to Import AVCHD Files in Final Cut Express 4

    Hello,
I try to import (log) my AVCHD files from a Panasonic HD Cam. The camcorder setting is 1920x1080 25i (HG). The logging-preview is fine but no matter which preferences I use in FCE 4, the clips are not synchronized. Video is a little bit fasterthan audio. How can I synchronize that?

  • Importing avchd files

I have a panasonic AG-AC130 Video Camera...shot footage AVCHD...Took card out put in card reader in USB port on keyboard of imac (newest modest)...that all worked fine, but when I try to edit, frames dropped, so it's kinda hard to work with....Talked to someone who said footage from card needs to be copied over to an external HD...copying ALL the files in same folders, etc...Did that....not sure what I did, but it worked...edited no problems....shot some more footage and went thru the same steps, or so I thought, but I can't get FCPX to recognize the footage that I copied over to ext hard drive...I KNOW i'm missing a step or 2 somewhere, and was wondering if someone would walk me thru it STEP BY STEP... for example::
put SDHD card in usb port on computer
    copy files to external HD
    go to FCPx
click on whatever icon...import files, import files from camera, etc
etc...this is the point where all the files i copied are grayed out
Like i said...it worked once, I just think I'm leaving out a step
    Any help would be appreciated!
p.s. no issues with imac, as it's brand new, 27" 3.1 ghz, 4gb ram, etc...
    Curt

Well, like i said, I copied all the files over....kept in the same directory structure...so, to recap...Everything's been copied from the card to ext hard drive KEEPING the same directory structure...I know that FCPX recognizes that structure, and you can't just bring over 1 or 2...Thanks for trying anyway...

What camera is this from? Make sure it is actual AVCHD and not some variant such as AVCHD Lite which is not supported.
Also, try this: In the Log and Transfer Pane, click on the Gear icon do set the preferences and set the Import

You can also download a trial version of Clipwrap and see if by converting the files to AIC with that software, then importing the files to FCE you have better luck.
