AVCHD in Ae CS5 is a sad joke.

Ok! AVCHD footage is playing perfectly in Premiere cs5 due to  Mercury.
But no Mercury in AE C5 makes scrubbing the CTI such a difficult  task!
And don't think my 8 core workstation is to blame.
The  strange thing is that RAM preview is reeealy fast! (at last 64bit!  )
So  whats the point if after editing in Premier I have to render out to  some other more AE friendly format instead of using my Pr project in Ae.
Even if only wanted to do some compositing in AE I would have to  use something like Cineform compression before importing in AE....
This  is so sad Adobe...
We waited a lot of years since the first  64bit processors for Ae to finaly catch up.
Are we gonna wait some  more for decent AVCHD performance in Ae?
The Mercury playback  could be the end of the time and space wasting workflows like  cineform/prores.
But only if it existed in AE!
Whats the  advantage of a  tapeless workflow for AE cs5 user working cameras like  Sony NX5 or AX 2000 if we get stuck with files that need to be
rendered  with a different codec in order to be usable?
Is there an  alternative workflow that I am inaware of ?
I have to admit I love Ae but some things are so disappointing I am  starting to think seriously about alternatives...

After Effects isn't a real-time program, like an NLE.You shouldn't expect scrubbing to be smooth in After Effects; it's just not what After Effects does. It's not what any compositing and visual effects program does.
AVCHD is a long-GOP format (i.e., to decode each frame,After Effects has to get information from multiple surrounding frames). Playing these back therefore takes more time than is the case for formats that contain all of the information for a frame within that one frame.
After Effects CS5 has made a lot of performance improvements, but they mostly affect RAM previews and rendering to final output, which are the two features that can take advantage of Render Multiple Frames Simultaneously mutliprocessing.
There are a lot of tips for getting After Effects to work faster for various purposes here: "Improve performance"

"**The trial version of Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 does not include some  features that depend on software licensed from parties other than Adobe.  For example, some codecs for encoding MPEG formats are available only  with the full version of this product."
Yes I read this, thought it pertained to export only (which doesn't faze me).
If it impacts playback of AVCHD files using h.264 codec, I'm all ears - and it would be ironic, because since using the trial I've actually been thinking about other editing platforms!! (Whereas before it was a forgon conclusion that I'd upgrade to the master collection).

  • No audio on imported AVCHD files PP CS5

    Hi,
I am new to Premiere Pro and my organisation want to start doing some video work for their website.  We have filmed some clips and have now saved these on the PC.  When I import these clips to Premiere Pro, I can see the clip, but when I drag it to the sequence the audio track is missing.  I have tried some other videos from our vimeo page, the audio in these works normally as you would expect.
The files I am having an issue with are AVCHD (mts) from a Canon Legria camcorder.  The audio plays normally when you open them in Windows Media player.
The PC is an Intel Xeon, 4GB RAM with Nvidia Quadro FX 3800 running Windows 7 with nearly 2TB of disk space so I know its not an issue with the spec of the system.  At the minute we are using the trail.  It's quite complicated but when we ordered the software it was between CS4 and CS5, they shipped us the CS4 box with a free upgrade to CS5, the box hasn't arrived yet so we are using the trail of CS5 we downloaded from Adobe.com.
If anyone has any help or advice I'd really appreciate it.
    Kind regards,
    Bernard

    Bernard,
As the trial cannot handle anything MPEG, I am surprised that you get the Video. I wonder if you do not have the full-paid version of CS4.
Now, if you do, you probably have CS4.0.0, or maybe CS4.1. AVCHD uses AC3 Audio and was not supported in the earliest releases of CS4. However, it was added in the CS4.2 update. I would first update to CS4.2 and try again with the AVCHD material.
Also, many consumer cameras shoot AVCHD with DD 5.1 SS Audio. Do not know about your camera, but you should be able to check that in the camera's menu>audio, or similar.
If that is the case, PrPro will create a 5.1 Audio Track to accommodate it. Output of DD 5.1 SS is slightly involved, and I will not go into that now. If needed, I can step you through that process.
When you Import your file into PrPro, be patient and let it Conform. This is monitored by a blue progress bar at the lower-right of the GUI. Be patient, until that completes 100%.
Good luck, and let us know if the CS4.2 update helps you.

  • Panasonic avchd-lite in CS5

Has anyone had any luck reading a avchd-lite file (from a Panasonic Lumix camera) in CS5.  About to buy a point-and-shoot for things I don't want to lug equipment to  and like the lumix camera - but it's format is avchd lite for HD video - lot's of buzz in forums but no definitive answer on whether someone has actually been able to get Prem to read the files..  Help greatly appreciated!
    thanks
    sk

    Hi there,
I am not yet educated with the technical terms, but I too recently bought a Panasonic Lumix camera and have found the videos I have shot with it, wont import to Adobe Premiere Pro and it is extremely frustrating. What worry's me more, is what will happen when I finally buy a HD camera to do my indie films, will this footage also not load into Premiere Pro?? I really don't know if I can trust Premiere Pro now this has happened and feel ripped off about the whole thing. I am thinking I will need to buy a different film editing program for my future film productions.
Hope we can find a solution as it's alot of money spent on Premiere Pro to not be able to see my footage for editing.

  • PB AVCHD ADOBE PREMIERE CS5- PIXELISATION DES FICHIERS SOURCES APRES IMPORTATION.

    Bonjour,

    Merci !

First of all, this is an English speaking cummunity. If you want to continue in French, visit the French forums and post there. And no need for shouting!!!
Second, get an education in video editing. If you haven't the faintest idea of what you are doing, you are in for a very long haul, as demonstrated by all your senseless actions. It is utterly useless to try all kind of presets, if you don't even know in what mode you have shot. You could try the File/New/New Sequence from Clip command to get you started. Otherwise an AVCHD 1080i/25 (1440x1080) with standard audio preset should work, based on your info.
Additionally, set you playback resolution to full. It defaults to 1/2.

  • Issues using Pro CS5 with AVCHD Format

I am using  the trial version of Pro  CS5 and when playing native AVCHD footage, the footage comes
out choppy and there is no sound.
When I convert the file to a WMV format, it is perfect.
I would perfer to edit the AVCHD footage in its native form. Is there something that I am doing wrong?

    2 Intel Xeon CPU x5450 3G
    8 go de ram
    NVIDIA quadro fx 1700
    Windows 7

  • Latency issues in Adobe Premiere CS5

    Hi there,
I am using an eMachine Aspire 5738 series. It has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470 graphics card
I've started work on a 15 minute video (1080i AVCHD) on Premiere CS5 and its lagging pretty badly to the point that the zoom on the timeline won't respond.
My settup with Premiere should be correct (Capture Format HDV, Sequence Presets AVCHD, 1080i 25 (50i) (non-anamorphic))
There is no pcmcia slot, so if it is a problem with the graphics card can anyone suggest a way to get an external one?
    Cheers,
    Paul

  • 2.0 Issue that I haven't read about yet

This is the lenghty email I just sent Apple:
I like many others have been experiencing issues with the new 2.0 update for my ipod touch. the first issue is that my battery life has dropped signifigantly. if i use the touch for an hour it will be half way down, just reading articles, not using wifi at all. the other issue is that when i try to sync apps from itunes, some will fail but then when it is resynced they load fine. (i have a design issue with everytime you update apps the reorder them on your screen) the wifi is screwy, it will say "server not found" then when safari is rebooted it is fine. also it will randomly restart.
Now all of these issues are HEAVILY DOCUMENTED on your support forums, one however I can't seem to find anything on, and i hope it is also just a flaw with 2.0 that will be resolved very soon....anyway, i like to charge my touch while it is off. in the past i would turn it off, plug it in and see the battery pop up on the screen. now with 2.0 when it is off and i plug it in (at the wall or pc) it will turn itself on. when i try to manually turn it off, i get zero indication of it still being charged. it is just a black screen.
The point is which i hope you are well aware of by now is that hundreds of thousands of LOYAL apple fans that have apple tatoos and put apple stickers over the kenmore badge of their fridge and name all 3 of their kids Steve Jobs all because apple is known to be very realible and friendly for anything they touch (no pun intended) spent several hundred dollars on their equipment and money to update their touch to 2.0 all to not only have issues with the software, but even larger issues with support.
I, being an executive for a fortune 500 company am the first to understand keeping issues as quite as possible, and i further understand software glitches with any large update. HOWEVER, i do see a big problem when A) apple has done nothing to address this issue, even on their owned and opperated forums and B)have all of you employees treating this issue as if it doesn't exsist and that it is the users fault. the worst part is when the company knows of the issue and all of the employees deny it. i recall when microsoft had xbox360 issues they did everything they could to fix them and lost millions in the process, meanwhile apple wants a customer on you very own forum to pay $30 to mail his or her touch in to you.
This is just not what myself or anyone else expected from a company held in such high regard. please, address the problem, let your employees (especially the ones in the stores) know that this is an issue, and get a fixout immediatley.
    thank you for reading,
    regards,
    Mike
so like the topic title states, i am having most of the issues that others are having (not as bad though) however i went to charge my touch tonight (because after an hour it was half dead). so i turned it off and when i plugged it in, it turned itself on! when i turn it back off while leaving it plugged in the batter picture that used to show up on the screen is not there, so i have no way of knowing if it is taking a charge.
i haven't read about this issue yet and it worries me. it always used to show the battery meter on the screen when it was off and plugged in (and it never would turn on when plugged in)
    someone test and help, please.

I use a Macbook with Windows XP in Bootcamp & Outlook. Since I upgraded Itunes and Ipod, my calendar and contacts will NOT sync. I have tried everything many times.
My daughter uses a Macbook with Leopard and since she upgraded Itunes and Ipod, all of her music purchased from Itunes won't play. You can see it, you just can't play it. Her other music works fine.
I am a software programmer. This is definitely a major software issue.
I understand that it takes time to find and repair these software issues, BUT
Apple needs to at least let us know that they are working on it.
I'm sorry, without contacts and calendar functions that work, what is the point of trying to sell Mobile Me. From the threads, it sounds like it doesn't work either. What a sad joke.
Apple - get your act together.

  • In the market for a new computer would love some feedback

Ok so I have a dilemma,
First problem is I can't decide between a laptop and a desktop if I went the laptop route I would go with the Asus N53qm
    Asus N53 Specs
Its got i7 720qm, some sites have it with 740qm, ddr3 memory, 425m cuda video card,
Id upgrade the ram to at least 8gb or ram maybe upgrade more down the road.... Id be editing video off esata or usb 3.0
I see the advantage of having a laptop being able to work on the road, taking it to my bed....
Id plug it into an external monitor/mouse, keyboard when at my desk.
My other option I would be a desktop
    Specs would be,
x58 motherboard, havnt decided which one yet, theres a lot that seem to all have the same features, eg. msi, asus, gigabyte.
Again ddr3 memory I notices 2000 was not much more than 1333, so yea as much ram as I want down the road....
    GTX 470
    850 watt corsair
    Intel Core i7 950
    Thermaltake A60 Case
Again most of my projects would most likely be through esata or usb 3.0 not sure which is better...
Oh and I would be editing HD Video from a flash based camcorder, Cannon HSF 10 to be specific, so its .mts avchd
Anyways, how much of a performance increase would I get from the desktop over the laptop?
I notice a lot of people overclock, is that really necessary, isnt an i7 pretty fast stock?
Thanks and please let me know your thoughts, advice changes to my specs...

Would love some feedack from the experts on this config available at Tiger direct for about $1,000
My Goal: to edit AVCHD footage using CS5....looking at the specs below specifically the processor, the video card and the RAM..what do you think?
( I  currently have CS3 on an HP Quad Core 2.4Ghz w/ 8GB RAM which is great for SD, but I realize that when upgrading to CS5 and editing my Sony HDR-500v AVCHD footage I'l need much more power)     Thanks!!

  • Need help with Premiere CS4 Export...

I currently shoot HD video with a Canon Vixia HF S10 digital camcorder (link goes to Canon's site). I shoot at the highest quality available, MXP 24 Mbps (1920x1080). When I bring the video over to my machine, it comes over as an .mts file which is the AVCHD file format (link goes to Wikipedia article on the format). I import these .mts files into Adobe Premiere (CS4). I import them into a AVCHD 1080p30 (29.97) Sequence. I do my editing, adding title screens, music, whatever. The problem comes when I go to export the final product into a usable format.  I've tried all different sorts of formats to export to and I can't get any usable results. If I select, for instance, H.264 HDTV 1080p 29.97 High Quality (a preset within Premiere) the video comes out extremely choppy...as in the audio will play and the video will hitch along and be mostly out of sync dropping whole sections of the video as it tries to catch up.
My end goal is to be able to export two versions...a higher quality (maybe burned to a DVD or Blu-Ray) and a lower quality (but still HD) for uploading to YouTube/SmugMug.
Any help or thoughts anyone may have would be greatly appreciated.

Hmm... My CS5/AVCHD 1st Impressions http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0 includes a link to what I built for CS5
Your computer is going to be a bit slower, but I don't see anything really obvious that would cause the output to be choppy
But... have you considered converting to HDV to see if that edits better for you?

  • Quad core or Hex core for Premiere pro

I am about to take the plunge and upgrade my aging edit PC
Having read some very useful posts on what to get at various budgets but I am still left with a few questions.
I edit mainly AVCHD footage on CS5 and compress to h264 for vimeo or intanet, I have a GoPro 3 but this is rearly used for anything serious but I do intend to upgrade to CS6 in the future.
Do I need a hexcore if I am not burning Blu-ray discs and am unlikely to edit 4k in the near future?
If I buy a quad core machine will I have a dramatic increase in rendering and compression time over the hex core?
The quad core will save more than the cost of a Matrox MXO2 Mini MAX if I do need h264 accelaration but this may still not be as fast, has anyone had experience of the Matrox compared to a hex core machine?
The specs only give a guide and practical experience available on this forum seems the best advice.
I look forward to your replies
    Aidan

    Aidan,
I'd say it depends on your price point. Premiere Pro gets great performance by taxing much of a system including cpu, gpu, drives, bus (motherboard), and memory.
If you are wanting to build a desktop system yourself for under $1700, then I'd say Z77 4-core would be excellent. You can edit AVCHD for sure, but you would be more limited for complex projects.
If you are willing to spend more, the x79 chipset and i7-3930k 6-core is an excellent way to go.
Search around this site for awhile and you will find various build lists with lots of passionate comments on component selection for a wide variety of price points.
    Regards,
    Jim

  • Premiere CS4 - Export is Fuzzy, Display is Clear - need help

I'm on a MacBook Pro, and running Premiere Pro CS4.
    I need to export a Quicktime (.mov) with h.264 at 1280 x 720.
This is a quick edit, so I'm just piecing together a .PNG photo (opening), another .mov file (the main file), and then a closing graphic (that is also .mov).
So, the main file is 1280 x 720, FPS is 23.98. The video is clear and crisp. When I import into my project, the video is also clear and perfect.
The closing graphic is similar size, but FPS is 29.97. It's a .mov file.
    These are the project settings:
    Editing Mode: Desktop
    Timebase: 29.97 frames/second
    Frame size: 1280 x 720
    Square Pixels
    Progressive Scan
Display format: 30 fps Dro-Frame Timecode
    Video Preview: Quicktime
    Codec: H.264
In my timeline and in the monitor, everything looks crisp and clean. And when I export the file, I have it set at 1280 x 720 Quicktime H.264. (Progressive Scan, 29.97) The preview looks crisp and clear. But after I export it, in the edited version, the video is fuzzy. The words on the opening slate are fuzzy.
And the end slate does not render properly. There are lines that run across it and it's very pixalated.
I'm new at Adobe Premiere. So I am a beginner at all this. If you could help me figure out what I am doing wrong, I'd be grateful.

  • Trying to switch to HD using CS4... Need advice.

I have been shooting a local dance studio's recital in SD for the past few years and I finally decided to switch to HD.  I recently shot their spring recital and noticed my laptop could not handle the HD footage (AVCHD) when I used the multicam feature.  The footage constantly skipped, which made it impossible to edit.  I eventually edited on the timeline. While I experienced no skipping issues on the timeline, editing three camcorders took twice as long on the timeline than it usually does using the multicam feature.
In addition to not being able to use the multicam feature, creating one blu-ray disc in Encore took way too long.  It took six hours to transcode a 54 minute video and one hour to create the disc.
My laptop specs include an Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 3.06ghz with 4gb RAM.  I realize this is not fast enough for editing HD in CS4.  What should I do?
Should I switch to CS5?  Do I need a new laptop?  If so, what should my specs be?  All advice is welcome.  Thanks in advance.

My computer is already beginning to be outdated, but it works for me with AVCHD... so I would now say that what I have is really a MINIMUM configuration for AVCHD editing
My CS5/AVCHD 1st Impressions http://forums.adobe.com/thread/652694?tstart=0 includes a link to the computer I built... since the GTX 285 is no longer sold, I would now go with a GTX 460 or whatever is the current "best bang for the buck" - AND I would buy 4Gig-by-3Sticks memory to be able to expand from 12Gig to 24Gig if needed
For my home hobbyist, family movies (which means that I am not trying to recreate Star Wars with video effects or many layers) AVCHD editing is "as smooth as spreading warm butter on hot toast" (also the MP4 video from wife's Flip camera)
My 3 hard drives are configured as... (WD = Western Digital)
    1 - 320G WD Win7 64bit Pro and all programs
2 - 320G WD Win7 swap file and video projects
3 - 1T WD all video files... read and write
    To buy ready made...

  • Recapturing deleted media

I have a fcphd project file that had all the media (10 hours) deleated from external hd. I still have the project file and all reels have no timecode breaks. I am trying to recapture all the media using batch capture in the capture window. I am having problems with the timecode. FCP cant find it and then it aborts capture.
I also have a duplicated item prompt before it will go to the batch window. The window asks if I want to rename a file because there is already a file in that name. The thing is that the file that needs a new name is a WAV. file that has nothing to do with the reels I am trying to capture. Answers are really appreciated and I thank you in advance for any help.

    We feel your pain.
Media management remains a sad joke within FCP. Sometimes it works like magic.
My first suggestion would be to try one clip at a time and see if you can determine a pattern to the timecode issues. If you can limp along a few clips at a time, forget trying to recapture all ten hours. You don't need it all (no, you don't). Just try to grab the essential stuff and then make some protection and then get back to work, filling in the gaps as you go.
What I'm getting at is you can spend days trying to force recapture to function and it might never work. Do the triage and figure out your worst case scenario's only shortcut to getting back to work, because, umm, you have experienced it: Your media is gone and recapture is apparently broken.
You could also try capturing one tape and see if the individual clips from that reel will reconnect if you point them at the larger clip. It's asking a lot.
I wish you luck and I hope you get better suggestions over the next few hours. I tend to assume a TOTAL DISASTER in cases like these.

  • Email sub-account locked out due to too many log in attempts.

Hi All, If someone has had this issue can you share how to get around this?  When I try to log into my sub-account it sends me an access code.  But the code brings me to my primary email account, not the sub-account.  Thanks in advance for any help on this! VAFrank

Been on hold for over two hours on three different calls -- I guess Verizon tech support is off the holiday?   Must be nice!   Meanwhile, can't get to email on sub account!   This is a sad joke!!   You mean that I will be locked out of this email until they decide to take calls again?  There is NO reason why I should not be able to correct this from the web without having to speak to anybody!  Totally unaccepable.   I had better control over sub-accounts with Comcast. Oh, well.  I thought Verizon had their act together better than Comcast with customer service and web tools but evidentally I was wrong.   With Comcast it was simple -- I paid their bills but never lost service and could fix anything myself.   With Verizon, I pay pretty much the same amount for same service but at least I could fix issues suich as this -- I rarely had to call Comcast for tech support -- I've had to call Verizon THREE TIMES to fix this same issue in six months from hiccups with password programs -- I shouldn't see "NULL" for the secret question -- nor should I see the main account when I get locked out of the sub-account and go through the process to get the text code on the phone and whatnot, then get sent to the password settings for the main account -- that is sloppy!  Worse, while I see "NULL" for my secret question -- the voice agents can see the question because they ask me for the secret answer!  Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy! Worse, Verizon has no explanation for this unacceptable nonsense and has to know about it because I've brought it up with agents.  That tells me Verizon simply doesn't care or is satisfied with how things are.   I can get just as lousy customer service from Comcast but, as I said, at least I could fix issues such as this with clear instructions on the Comcast customer page -- no "hidden" or "special" links like what was mentioned earlier in this thread, which don't work anyway now if they did at one time!   I was with Comcast for 10 years, never, ever had a situation where I couldn't unlock an account.    So, counting the days until my contract is over!   A year and a half, sadly.
