AVCHD output to 16:9 DVD has glitches

I have a Panasonic HMC150 camera and we shot some footage in 1080 60i. After editing the native files in Premiere Pro CS4 I opened Encore and tried numerous times to burn a 16:9 DVD.  I tried using dynamic link and letting Encore do the encoding.  I tried Exporting a DVD Compatible Mpeg2 file.  I tried exporting an NTSC AVI file, but every time the DVD is burned there are 1 or 2 glitches in the final video on the DVD.
The segment isn't very long (only about three minutes), but I keep getting glitches where the video seems to stutter for a second, jumping back a few frames, repeating a few, then jumping back to the correct spot.
Anyone else had these issues?

However your AVI result is pretty disappointing and my guess is that
that is caused to a large extent by the run-of-the-mill OS disk and the 3
disk raid3. Since one disk is reserved for parity, you have only 2
disks available for data storage and with the overhead of raid3, your 3
disks will only perform at around 150-170% the speed of a single disk.
You will gain a serious performance boost from adding a 4-th (identical)
disk to your raid.
Wish I could add a 4th, but there is no more room in the the case at all.  The single hard drive that the OS is stored on is a Western Digital WD3200AA 320GB 7,200 SATA.
I can't seem to be able to overclock the CPU/memory with this motherboard.  Every time I try the motherboard refuses to boot (even if I only go up 10% or so).  Of course the system has issues with not wanting to boot even without overclocking.  I'll frequently have to power it off, back on, off, back on to get it to POST if I have to shut it down completely.  I'm thinking that's a motherboard issue.  I'm starting to wish I'd gone with an ASUS for more money than this ASRock, even though Tom's Hardware reviewed it positively.

a) you are sure the glitches are not in the source.
b) the glitches occur at different places?  i.e. it may be more a playback issue than somethign in the stream.  What is the datarate of the mpeg2?  Are the spikes?  I'm forgetting which tool I used to use for that; free version that will still show a spike.
There are no glitches in the original footage when I play it back on the computer using either Premiere, VLC or even Media Player.  The glitches are in the final DVDs because they show up when I play the DVD in different players.
I've tried encoding the Mpeg2 files at different data rates.  I've tried VBR 1.5, 4, 7, but mostly I just let Encore do the encoding automatically.
I need to clarify about the glitches appearing in different places.  If I export a timeline to an AVI or Mpeg2 file and play it back or burn it to a DVD, whatever glitches I see in the file after exporting is what I see when it's played back anywhere (i.e. a different computer, different media players, or burned to a DVD).
The only time the glitches change their location is if I were to re-export the timeline again.  The glitches don't change their location after being exported.
I finally gave up on the two projects I mentioned in this post and lived with the glitches I still had (there were three total in the 1080 60i project, and I'm not sure how many in the other project, but I counted at least 3).  Hopefully the clients either won't notice them or won't be that concerned.
The current project I'm working on was shot 1280x720 @ 24p.  This time I used TMPGEnc to downres all of the the footage to 720x480 Widescreen before starting the edit process.  I'm hoping this will get rid of the glitches.
Thanks.

  • Front Row Freezes and has Glitches with DVDs

I already posted this in another forum, but someone suggested I post it here.
Whenever I start a DVD using Front Row, about 1 in every 5 times the screen will remain black and nothing will happen, and I can't even force quit to get out, I have to do a force shut down. This is infuriating when all I want to do is watch a DVD and I have to restart the whole computer. What could be causing this? When the thing actually DOES play dvds, the screen has glitches, like pink and green random images that resembles when an old Nintendo system is crashing. Please help if you can!! Thanks in advance.

I sure haven't. I must note, also, that it's not just with DVDs. Video files on the hard drive have the problem, as well.
Someone mentioned that the VGA dongle might be the culprit but that doesn't make sense. The computer with an external display works fine until Front Row is used. And, as I stated earlier, it doesn't seem to matter with my situation if I have an external display connected or not.
My personal opinion is that there's a conflict with some third-party codecs on the system. For example, I have installed the Perian components and ffmpeg. Since I have some free time this weekend, I'll be removing these and see if the problems persist.

I turned my mac off and ever since then it has glitched out and will not download no matter what I do. I have had it for 3 years which is out of warranty. It now has a blank bar under the launch pad and no matter how many times I try re-downloading it or restarting my computer it does not work. I use too play starcraft and other games on this computer although new patched/updates have made it that I can no longer do that now. Really frustrating having to deal with this especially after buying this computer upfront and now out of warranty.

Go to your Applications folder and find a file called "Install OS X Mavericks".  Send it to the trash and delete it.  Then try the download again.

  • Avchd output to bluray

Hi all  I read this on Adobe site "AVCHD output to Blu-ray NEW Publish content from AVCHD cameras to Blu-ray using the high-quality native camera format. By passing AVCHD content directly to disc without transcoding, Encore preserves the original fidelity of the source content."  How can i do this? I don't find the opportunity to export avchd without transcoding  I edit with première pro cs5 and send the work(avchd 1080i50) to encore with dynamic link, but when i export my work encore always trancoding and the final quality is worse t han origina l clip What's wrong?  Hi and tnx for your help Alex

I was trying to do the same thing, take AVCHD footage, edit it, and then bring it into Encore
CS5 to create menus and burn to disc.  FINALLY I found a way to do this.  You can't use Premiere
Pro at all for this.  You CAN edit the footage in another program that will allow you to save the edited file in AVCHD.
For example Corel videostudio Pro X3 (around $60.00) allows you to do this- although with crappy menu
options- no submenus etc.  So... edit the file in VideoStudio (do not create any menus), save it as AVCHD, and then import it into Encore.  In Encore you will see it say for Blue Ray "Do Not Transcode"  this is what you want to see.  Then create whatever menus etc. you want and burn it to disk.

  • How to burn a dvd from Bridge, through the Output Module to a DVD?

How do I burn a dvd pdf slideshow?  I have CC, ACR, Bridge and I have loaded the Output Module.  I know how to create the slideshow in Bridge.  How do I get from Bridge through the Output Module to the DVD?

Copying the pdf to DVD is an OS function, not something to do from Bridge.  When you save the pdf you select a location where to save it (desktop or folder of your choice).  To copy that saved pdf file to DVD you use a DVD writing program on your system or OS copy function (such as windows explorer if on windows) to copy from the location where you saved the pdf to the DVD drive on your system.

  • What DO I need to output HD projects to DVD?

Trying to piece together how I will output HD footage to DVD. Have researched and paged through this forum and as a technophobe can't quite get it..I know FCP7 does have output to basic blu ray...I know toast and encore will get me there, but what do I need to actually burn???
I have DVD studio pro 4.2.1 which came with the Mac tower, if I get toast which is in my price range will that prepare an HD file to burn? Please help with the steps to output and what I need. The films will be shown on a theatre screen and for TV, computer viewing.
    Catherine

    It's not that easy.
You provided the target venue but not the output hardware. A Blu-ray player is useless if the projection system can't see the signal. Figure that one out first.
then you'll need to tell us what you think you mean by "HD." what codec, what format, what frame rate.
FCP6 and FCP7 wil handle most HD material but, depending on the source, often at the cost of performance or additional transcoding to get the material into the application. Toast, AKFAIK, comes with a manual that will tell you how to build Blu-ray, if that's what you need to do. The Share from FCP to Blu-ray seems to be workable but flawed. You may want to look more seriously at the Adobe suite of products for the PC if you will be using Blu-ray exclusively and charging admission.

  • Share operation dvd has failed QuickTime error 0

My 44 minutes long project in Final Cut Pro 10.0.9 project fails with a message: "Share operation DVD has failed, QuickTime Error: 0". I use OSX 10.9.
Yesterday, I rectified the situation by rebooting the system and starting to "share" again. To-day made a few extra corrections here and there but  nothing simple works. I even removed the background photo from the DVD opening menu but no success :-((
Ross's earlier advice on this forum was:
"Select a short section of your project and export as a Pro Res master file.
If that also fails, turn off BG Rendering; delete project render files; copy the entire Timeline to a new project.
    Russ"
Could you please be more specific. I am a novice to FCP.
1.How to select a short section ? Select 4-5 frames (yellow band) from the timeline ?
    2. How to _export_ as a ProRes file ? From File > Share > Master File (default) ? (Or if it has to be an "export" perhaps File >Export XML ?)
    3. How and where to turn off BC Rendering ?
    4. How to delete project render files ?    File > "Delete Project Redner Files" is not highlighted in the File menu, so how to select this action ?
    5. How to copy the entire Timeline into a new project ?  File >New Project ? Then select the whole of the old timeline, copy > paste into the new timeline ? Or a different method ?
I think that it is better to ask even some simple (for experts) questions  ? :-)
    Many thanks,
    Kris

    1) Either use the Range tool or set in and out points on the Timeline.
    2) Either way will work. For example, Share>Master File and choose Pro Res in the Settings>Video Codec field.
    3) Background Rendering can be turned off in Preferences.
    4) Select the project in the Project Library first.
    5) Create a new project with settings to be determined automatically by first clip. In the original project, Command-A and then Command-C. Open the new project, click in the Timeline window to activate and hit Command-V.
    Good luck.

  • Share Operation DVD Has Failed

I have a project on Final Cut Pro X that is close to 90 minutes long. It consists of several 5 minute video clips. When I try to share the project to DVD it gets about 33% done when I get this error -
The share operation "DVD" has failed.
    The operation couldn't be completed.
    (com.apple.Compressor.CompressorKit.ErrorDomain
    error-1.)
    I am running
    Final Cut Pro X (10.1.4)
    OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If the clips are native media, try optimizing them.

Select a short section of your project and export as a Pro Res master file.
If that also fails, turn off BG Rendering; delete project render files; copy the entire Timeline to a new project.

  • Running 10.6.8 - DVD has stopped working

Running 10.6.8 - DVD has stopped working, and in system prefs I can't select "Open iDVD" when you insert a video DVD... can I reload iDVD without reloading the whole system software?

Have you tried deleting the DVD Player preferences and then restarting DVD player to try again? It's possible that the preferences have become corrupted.
If you want to try that:
    1. Quit DVD Player if it's running
    2. Go to Home/Library/Preferences and delete the com.apple.dvdplayer.plist file
    3. Restart DVD Player and test to see if the problem is solved.

  • My finished DVD has wrong audio

On IDVD3, I'm only burning one quicktime file which has it's own sound, somehow the finished DVD has sound from a different source. Can't find anywhere on the setting where this audio is coming from.

    Hi Martin
How did You go to iDVD ?
    - from within iMovie and Share/Export to iDVD function
    - working with FCE/P and had QT.mov files that was dropped into iDVD a theme.
If from iMovie do like this instead.
    a) Close iMovie
    b) find the project icon/folder
    c) Ctrl-click on it and Show package.
    d) in this there are a folder -> Shared Movies -> iDVD
    e) in this there is a QT movie nnnnnnn.mov
    -   You can test this with QT-player so that this is OK -
    f) drop this into an open theme in iDVD and save it as a desktop image
(if iDVD prior HD/5 You have to add a hack to make this possibly
    named HPfurz and install it)
Test this with Apple DVD-player - OK then burn it with iDVD
or Toast if You have and don’t want to re-code the movie.

You likely have a redemption code on the box that you have to enter into an Adobe website to convert that into a serial number.
See the information on the following page:  https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/global/redemption-code-help.html

  • AVCHD files can be output to make standard DVD?

Basic question.  My HD camera uses AVCHD files.  I presume CS5 can take these to output them as a standard DVD, rather than Blu-Ray?

  • Rippling waves in DVD output from rendering process? Has anyone seen this?

I have created a new project within Premiere Pro CS3. I have imported in about 300 still photos to create a DVD slide show mixed with some movie footage from one avi file. The following are the specs of the stills:
    1. Each still was scaled down to 1440X960 in size within Photoshop CS3. None of the images were scaled up.
    2. I disabled Premiere from resizing the images during import process so that I can setup panning and zooming each image.
    3. I added all images to my timeline with a 6 second delay.
    4. I then setup all even images to start at %size of 50% and then zoom out to 100% using keyframes.
    5. I then setup all odd images to start panning from left to right, during the 6 seconds they are displayed, with the image %size of 75%
I then added music to the audio track and then exported as a Movie, which created an avi file.
I then imported this avi file into Encore and created my final DVD, which is only about 30 minutes long.
I gave a copy to a friend, and when he attempted to view the movie on his MAC and then his PC running XP, he reported that he was seeing rippling waves throughout the video. He explained them to look kind of like heat waves that you would see coming off hot asphalt. Which this cause the image to be somewhat distorted. When he placed the DVD in his home TV dvd system and it displayed on his TV, the results were much better, but you can still see a little of those waves. I also see a little of those waves on my new dvd player attached to my High Def TV.
My questions tho this group are:
    1. What causes these waves to appear?
    2. How to get rid of them and make the video more high resolution looking?
Thank you all for your help.
    Rick

    > What causes these waves to appear
    Interlacing.
    > 2. How to get rid of them and make the video more high resolution looking?
Use progressive frames for computer playback. Or set up your PC's DVD software to deinterlace DVDs on playback (quality may vary).
You can also apply the "anti-flicker" settings in Premiere's motion to soften it a bit.
