AVCHD ph 1080p files - CC, levels, grade, MB Looks...issues

I am testing CS5 PPRO with some
AVCHD ph 1080p files that I shot myself.
Applying  any of these effects .... Levels, 3- Way C.C, Curves, FAst CC,  MB Looks etc ...and I am getting real issues!
Basically its un workeable for me.  The effects are unresponsive in the interface . MB Looks wont even open the Looks Builder interface.
I have tried the sequences with MPE Hardware ON and Off
I have tried creating the sequence by matched AVCHD ph 1080p Presets or the NEW Item> sequence  . No luck.
A really bad editing experience with this CODEC
As soon as I convert the AVCHD to DVCPROHD(mxf).... smooth as silk , every thing works and no problems.  I will now try some other transcodes (including the AVID one from COLIN)
Any thoughts...anyone please..

Hi Craig
Thanks for sharing your seemingly troublesome footage with me.
I am happy to report as others have already done that it played back just fine even with multiple effects applied across several tracks.
I also applied a MBL effect to it and it played back beautifully although it took me 90 seconds to render the 10-second clip.

  • AE changes the gamma level of DVCPRO HD 1080p files

When I import DVCPRO HD 1080p files in a new composition in AE, they look darker than the original ones. I can see it in the composition window and in a waveform monitor after rendering. If I increase their gamma around 1.25, then they look almost well. How could I avoid this AE automatic behaviour? However, there isn't any problem when I import DVCPRO HD720p files.
    I am using AE CS4, Mac OS X 10.6.8
I hope some could hep me. Thanks in advance.
    Carolina.

I have the opportunity to test this in a AE CC and there isn't any problem about the DVCPRO HD 1080p files. It must be a bug in CS4 version. I have had to convert all the clips to AppleProRess before import them in my AE CS4.

  • Using the Sony CX550VE to import 1080p-Files the right channel it louder then the left channel. Using iMovie everything is fine. Do you know this problem?

FinalCutProx 10.03 (test version): Using the Sony CX550VE to import 1080p-Files the right channel is louder then the left channel. Using iMovie everything is fine, both channels are leveled correctly. Do you know this problem?

Thanks Tom, that did the trick. Appreciate your help and love your DVD and style. Cheers.

  • 512 MB RAM - is it enough to play Matroska 1080p files?

    Does anybody know the answer?
I intend to buy a 1.66 GHz mini just to play HD files on my TV; I've tested one with 2GB RAM; it's great, but I really wonder if the native 512 MB would be enough for VLC/Quicktime/MPlayer to play 1080p files without dropping frames...
    Thanks in advance

It's not so much the RAM in the system that determines whether you can play these kind of files as much as it depends on the CPU and graphics card.
A 1.66 mini has sufficiently good CPU and graphics and thus even with 512Mb RAM should work just fine, with the only caveat being as Boece says - that 512Mb would not be adequate if the software in use is not intel-native. VLC and Quicktime are both native, as are all the software components such as DVD Player supplied with the system. MPlayerOSX is also 'binary' meaning it runs natively on both intel and earlier systems. For any other software you may intend to use, it would be wise to check first and if found not to be intel-native, get at least 1Gb RAM or as Boece suggests, preferably 2Gb for best performance and flexibility.

  • Can the mac mini i7, 8gigs ram,  edit avchd 1920/1080p without having to convert it?

Can the mac mini i7, 8gigs ram,  external FW800 drive, edit avchd 1920/1080p without having to convert it?
Can you scrub the TL at 5x speed and not have it stutter?

By default it converts it to ProRes 422, though you can specify other codecs.
    Why convert it?
Although FCP X can handle AVCHD natively, AVCHD being a "delivery" codec is not really suitable for editing.
ProRes is designed specifically for ease of editing especially with complex effects and colour correction.
If your editing is going to be fairly basic you can get away with leaving your media as AVCHD.
Note also that an hour of ProRes is around 50GB !

  • How to Import AVCHD 1080/60p Files into Final Cut Pro 7?

How do I import AVCHD 1080 / 60p Files into Final Cut Pro 7? And if there is no direct way [I certainly haven't found one, but I'm no expert], what additional software would be used? I want to import the files from a Panasonic HDC-HS700 onto an Intel Mac laptop [Mac OSX 10.5.8]? Obviously I don't want to compress & compromise my footage.
I’m sure a simple, straightforward series of steps would help many people with this issue.
    Thanks!

    Thanks for the response!
I'm guessing you've found ClipWrap2 to be better than competing products [such as AVCHD Converter for Mac, Toast Titanium, or Voltaic].
On to the next steps. Using Clipwrap2, would I leave the checkbox "Convert Audio to LPCM" selected or deselected [and what the heck is LPCM?]. In the pulldown menu would I choose "Rewrap (Don't alter video samples)" or do I save a step by choosing "Apple ProRes 422"?
And finally, am I gaining anything by shooting 1080/60p on this Panasonic HD Camera other than a headache? [Some have suggested this is not a True 60p.]

  • What software do i need to convert AVCHD mts/mts2 files to import to iMovie

What software do i need to convert AVCHD mts/mts2 files to import to iMovie

As Kirk says, if you have your camera, you can attach it directly.
Further, if you preserved the entire file structure of your camera (not just the .mts files, but also the folders on the camera), then you can import from that via FILE/IMPORT FROM CAMERA ARCHIVE.
When you import from a camera, it is recommended that you keep a camera archive so you always have the originals available.
If you have the .mts files out of context, you will need a third party app to convert. Two that I know of are ClipWrap and Voltaic HD. You should convert the files to Apple Intermediate Codec. And then use FILE/IMPORT/MOVIE.

  • Release Space at file system level in DB2

    Dear Gurus,
We have ECC 6.0 system on AIX with DB2 9.1 . We want to release space at file system level  , I have idea regarding Oracle that it can be done in 2 ways 1: Offline DB reorg 2 : Dtafile resize.I am new to DB2 so can you please let me know whether it is feasible with DB2 as well or not.
In case yes what steps we need to perform in db2 in order to release space
    Regards
    Kuldeep singh

You can reduce the size of your tablespaces down to their current high water mark with the ALTER TABLESPACE REDUCE command. Reducing the high water mark requires much more work and on DB2 V9.1 there is no relyable way to do this.
DB2 V9.7 provides a new tablespace type with "reclaimable storage" attribute that allows to reclaim space much easier.
If you have a lot of trapped free space in your V9.1 tablespaces below the current high watermark you may want to consider a homogenous system copy with R3load into new tablespaces. This should be combined with an upgrade to V9.7 to get the new tablespace types. Another way to reorganize tablespaces is to move all tables into new tablespaces using DB6CONV.

  • AVCHD (MTS) video files thumbnails previews

    Hello,
How can I have video thumbnail previews for my AVCHD (Mts) video files in Premiere, After Effects?
I can preview alla the other formats but not the above one.
    Thank you.

    cdlansford
Hunt is correct in that the video codec AVCHD (MPEG4 AVC/H.264) was not supported by Premiere Elements until version  7. A variety of converters were used in those days before Premiere Elements 7 (because of AVCHD non support) and after versions 7 - 9 because of the resource demands of the AVCHD editing in those programs.
Typically the converters in those days took the AVCHD to a MPEG2 HD.mpg form. The most popular one at the time was the free Koyote Soft HD converter. You may want to check it out and determine if it would work for you.
    http://www.koyotesoft.com/video-software/free-hd-converter.html
As I recall there were a lucky few at the time who had Sony Vaio computers which offered an add on for AVCHD support in Premiere Elements 4 running on a particular Sony Vaio computer.
Any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
    Thanks.

  • 1080p files to PAL DVD, use extra resolution.

If I use 1080p files in imovie 11, and then export to DVD, can I use the extra resolution to zoom in ?

Yes, you can crop in slightly to reframe a shot on the HD camera.  However, getting really good quality DVDs from HD video takes some work.  This article I wrote for the LA Final Cut Pro Users group may help you.

  • AVCHD vs HDV file sizes

I just read AVCHD to AIC files balloon to roughly 10 times. Are AVCHD files imported to iMovie larger than HDV imported to iMovie? What sort of files sizes are we talking for HDV compared to AVCHD?
How taxing are files THAT large on a C2D MacBook Pro w/ 3gb RAM? Am I setting myself up for the hours of the spinning wheel?

Are AVCHD files imported to iMovie larger than HDV imported to iMovie?
They should be of roughly equivalent size for a given duration and dimensions as both are converted to AIC/AIFF for editing.
What sort of files sizes are we talking for HDV compared to AVCHD?
As indicated above, if both file types are of the same duration and dimensions, they should be nearly equivalent in size when imported/converted to iMovie '08. As to actual file size, AIC is more compressed than DV files and so an AIC encoded SD file would be smaller than an equivalent DV file. On the other hand, HD content contains more data than an SD file of the same duration and so would still be larger than the DV file. Since the data rate is proportional to the dimensions of the file being imported and the file size is proportional to the data rate being used in each case, there is no way to answer your question without you providing some concrete parameters on which to base even "ball park" estimations here.
How taxing are files THAT large on a C2D MacBook Pro w/ 3gb RAM? Am I setting myself up for the hours of the spinning wheel?
No practical experience here to make a response. And besides, you did not give any idea as to the the unit's clocking speed for comparisons.

  • Does the Apple Digital Av adapter Stream in 1080P so that my keynote presentations look better that streaming them through apple TV?

Does the Apple Digital Av adapter Stream in 1080P so that my keynote presentations look better that streaming them through apple TV? I use Keynote and Apple TV to stream my Keynote presentations at work and the Picture does not look great and does not put the presetation in widscreen mode. Would the Apple Digital Av adapter fix that?

The size on the screen should remain, but the quality should be better.

  • Why is there an alert as to some files not syncing when it looks alike everything is synced?

I see a red exclamation point and a notification that some files did not sync, but it looks like everything did sync.  I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling but that did not clear up the condition.  I did have to add a "Creative Cloud Files"  folder… Could that be the issue?  Why wasn't it there when the program loaded?

What files? What system? What else? You need to be more specific.

  • Corrupt Files (pink, partial rendered, smeared look...etc)?

I am using the 5D Mark II, I shoot around 100 shots them I import them into LR 2.7.  After import the thumbnails initially look fine, once they start to render usually a few pictures throughtout will look corrupt, pink in color, smeared look...etc.  I will then export one of the raw files to .jpg and it looks the same.   Then I will pick all the files that look corrupt and delete them from the disk, then I will re-import just those photo's that looked bad and then when I re-import they are fine.  Does anyone know what is going on with LR causing this problem?  I first thought it was corrupt cf cards then I decided to use different ones and still same problem, then I thought it was the sensor on the camera, but if I re-import the photo's a second or third time after deleting from LR then they are fine.  So it tells me something is wrong with LR.  I have never had this issue before.  I am running windows 7 pro 64-bit.

    Bluesoda15,
I assume you're importing directly from cards. I would have a look at the following:
Try  copying the files from card to a harddisk, and import them from there
Try replacing the card reader, the usb-cable or usb-hub
Does your USB hub (if any) have enough power available?
Have you tried a different (onboard) USB port?
