Avchd render time: 1 min = 1 hour of rendering.

so should 1 min of 1920 x 1080 avchd footage  take about an hour to render? I know I don't have a high end machine but that cant be right.
footage is  l layer of avchd footage with simple dissolves. no other special FX. I have tried neosceen Avis and couldn't tell a difference. Processor is pegged at 100% .

  • Reduced Render Times i7

Working a i7 920, 12 gb ram, sATA drives, Win 7 with Premiere Pro 1.5.
    Render time: 19 mins.
P4 2.66, 1 gb ram, ide, XP Pro with Premiere Pro 1.5
    Render time: 3 hours.
    Pretty cool.
    Probabaly, with CS4 even faster.

I'm not exactly sure how much functionality

  • AME render time 2x SLOWER in CS6 than CS4

I just upgrade to CS6.  A good portion of my projects are very long continuing professional education videos for streaming on the web.  AME4 could render an 8-hour video into baseline, H264 700x290 in about 12 hours.   (I know, strange, custom frame size.  It's for side-by-side speaker and overhead presentation.)  I opened the same CS4 project in CS6.  It was resaved for the new version. I also created a new sequence and copied the files over, just to be sure.  With EXACTLY the same export settings, render time is about 27 hours!
AME4 was not a 64 bit app, whereas AME6 is.  So, my 16 GB of ram should be put to better use, I would think. According to Premiere, ram available for other apps is around 13GB.  In task manager performace, processor is at the ceiling but memory use is only 6GB:
    System specs are:
Media drive is Western Digital Caviar Black 2 TB SATA III 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache
    GPU= AMD RADEON HD 6570 DP 1GB PCI EXPRESS 2.0 X16
How can I get AME6 to access more memory?  Why in the world would the render speed more than DOUBLE with a newer version?!?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Yes.  A CUDA card is on my wishlist, but my company may be tapped out for a while after new ram and an upgrade to CS6.
I did queue this one.  I wasn't aware that this would make a difference.  I'll try the direct export method next time.
RE: "encoding times have increased with the newer more feature rich versions"  Really?  So was I just mislead/misinformed that a 64 bit version of this encoder would be faster?  Wow, that sucks.  But is there no way for AME to access more than 6GB of my ram?  I guess the slowness may be the price you pay for stability.  My 8-hr project failed two times in AME4.  I have 5 hours left of encoding on AME6.  It's my last, best hope for being able to deliver this project on time.

  • Render times increasing progressively, exponentially

I am working with some high-res quicktimes (1280x1024) from SnapZ. I have pre-processed the clips to be native to my final frame rate (23.98) I have cut the basic full-frame clips to VO in a sequence matching the clips' settings, then pasted them into a DV sequence, where I'll be adding SD cutaways and zooming in on parts of the interface. (It's software training stuff)
I'm noticing some very strange behavior when rendering just the backgrounds in the SD sequence. If I render all, it starts out rendering at what I would consider normal speed, estimating about an hour, but then starts slowing down until the estimated render time is over 10 hours for about 9 minutes of content. All the clips hve identical motion settings, no overlays, filters, etc.
If I cancel the render, and select everything but the first partially-rendered clip, now it estimates about 14 minutes to render, and in fact renders much more of the timeline, but then it starts slowing down again. Removing the partiallly rendered clip from the selection wiill speed it up again, but once one clip has slowed its render down, it will no longer render at normal speed.
I suspect that there is some cache file that is getting clogged up with data from my hi-res media, and slowing down the process. I am running FCP 5.1.4, OS 10.4.9, on a 2.66 Intel Mac Pro with 5GB of RAM. My processor usage is at around 14% on all four processors during render.
Any suggestions for which files to trash to clear the clog from my render pipeline?

nope, just a series of hi-res quicktimes scaled down in the DV sequence, no filters, graphic overlays, etc. All the clips are handled the same way.
The clips themselves are from SnapZ, and I had to nest them into sequences and re-export them to fix the frame rate issue. The whole 10fps issue was very stubborn, but I found that I could nest them into sequences and batch export them using item settings, which resulted in clips I knew would match the settings of my cusotm hi-res sequences exactly.
FCP gets pretty sluggish when I am working in the native resolution, but I need to keep the full-res clips so I can add the zooms later. To share the content between sequences, I had to get the frame rates all locked down to 23.98. I just don't understand how two clips with identical settings in one sequence can require longer render times by a factor of 40.
I haven't been able to find any obvious settings or files I can modify to un-clog the rendering so far. Perhaps there is some master/affiliate relationship between the hi-res insatnce and the DV instance. I'll try a replace edit with the master clip and see if it speeds things up at all.

  • Livetype render time

Hey, I'm pretty new to Livetype, and I'm wondering if the render times I am experiencing are normal. If I use scrolling text, creating 1 minute of titling, then place a livetype texture behind it (I'm using the texture "stage" if that helps). When I render to a .mov to import into FCE 3.1 the render time takes nearly 2 hours! I can render tons of ntsc video in FCE and it doesn't take nearly that long. Is this normal or am I doing something wrong here?
Thanks in advance for your help and/or suggestions.
    nogrey

Hey Guys, Thanks for the recommend. Turns out, there was really no issue at all. When I began the export to quicktime move, the usual progress bar popped up, but said "approximately 72hrs". I watched for a few minutes and it didn't change. I cancelled and typed out this question. After trying it again, it turns out that the original estimate of 72hrs (this was for a 2 hr video) quickly dropped rapidly. I left the machine to do its work, but it didn't take very long.
    Regards,
    Greg

  • I get 120 hours render time on quicktime h.264 usualy setting

    My Computer :
Processor : Radeon HD graphics APU A10-5745M 2.10GHz
    Ram installed : 16 Go ( 15.52 usable , 12go on AAE CC )
    Graphic cards :  R7 m260 and HD 8610G
My project : 10 min long , 3 audio spectrum with glow and a '' bass shake fx on all of them ''
Usual render time for 1 audio spectrum 5 min long song and bass shake FX = 30 min  , Same setting
My setting Quicktime H.264 , Lossless sound , Best quality .
I try to render and i alway get between 80 and 120 hours ... make no sense , it should be max an hour . theres 20k frames to be rendered .
Now when i installed media encoder it does not help it and still is Sooooooo long to render .... im not sure how to fix this without losing quality

It seems to be helping quite a bit , but the render is still up at like 41 hours so .... i don't understand ? does having multiple audio spectrum and a bass shake effect on all of them for 11 minute increase the render time by so much ? my first video was quite fast even on h.264  ?  it doesnt look that fancy to me lol

What would be a conventional, frame-based codec? Thank you so much for the help!
Uncompressed AVI is one, but the file sizes are going to surprise you. Quicktime with the PNG codec is usually smaller, but still huge. Quicktime with the PhotoJPEG codec is even smaller. Some popular choices that are even smaller are DNxHD and Cineform (either MOV or AVI). They're still going to be much larger than the H.264, but that's okay!
For many (most) professionals, the usual workflow is to render a lossless file (or nearly lossless) out of AE and then use the Adobe Media Encoder or Premiere to create the final deliverable. There are several reasons, but one is that AE is not very good at rendering h.264 files (and there are some very technical reasons for this). Anyway, the AE team deprecated the h.264 rendering in the latest version of After Effects because of it.
In your case, I would suggest rendering into a TIFF sequence (or something similar). This way, if there is a crash or something, you can pick your render up at the last frame it rendered rather than having to start at the beginning. I always do this when I'm doing 3d work and the render is going to be over an hour. Then you can bring that TIFF sequence into Premiere as if it's a video file, put your audio and everything to it, and send your final H.264 render from Premiere.

  • Xtremely long render times

I am doing a very simple project that seems to be taking longer than it should. I'm taking Sony HDV 1080i clips, about 10-15 minutes long, and adding an elapsed time window, and a time code reader window to them for a research client.  3 layers, no editing, no sound. I have place the HVD file in it's native sequence, so there's no rendering until I add the filters from FCP.  Then, it takes from 11-15 hours to render these sequences, then another 2 or so to export the files as h.264 for the client's use.  That seems really long to me.  I made a compressor setting, h.264 1920x1080, 25000kb, so I might avoid the long render time, but that took about 9 hours.  Am I missing something?  I usualy work with DVCPro HD, and notjhing I do, with lots of laysers take that long.

Not looking over your shoulder, I'm making a few possibly invalid assumptions.
The HDV is your first major problem. You should transcode that to ProRes422LT on ingestion and build your sequence in that format. The files are much larger but they're uncompressed. Well, they're compressed but they don't require decompression before they can be rendered.
Exporting to H.264 from PRLT in 1080 is  four to six times realtime depending on your system's specs. I't seight times on mine.
Placing your HDV sequence into a native sequence only means the base layer doesn't need to be rendered to be played. But the HDV must be unpacked, frame at a time, to be rendered with effects and that takes two to six times realtime. You say the clips are 15 minutes but you don't say how long the sequence that takes 15 hours to process is.

  • Render times in AE?

    Hi,
I've been playing around with photoshop, premiere pro, and I've been avoiding AE because it looks a bit intimidating. I have  a project I am working on that I want to deinterlace. I have magic bullet frames plus, and the footage that I imported into AE is an MPEG. The footage comes from a crappy source - someone recorded it from television and it was all noisy, full of "jaggies", and just rough looking. I took out some of the noise with neat video in premiere and now I want to deinterlace it in AE. Frames plus is really amazing, but the render times seem crazy to me - like 30 hours - I'm running a top of the line system. The source file is about 3 GB and I have been trying to export it into MPEG2-DVD format. The file is 1 hr and 30 minutes long. Is that too long a file? Does AE work only for clips of a short duration? Should I be expoting my file into a different format? Are render times in AE this brutal? Even the most demanding plugins in Premiere take a fraction of the time - Neat video renders out an 1 hr 30 min clip in 5 hours. 41 hours seems bizzare!
    Thanks for the help!
    Howard

The clip is an hour and a half... the render took 5 with temporal smoothing. Sounds normal to me.
Here's another problerm with the render:
I have been trying to export it into MPEG2-DVD format.
You should never try to render to an MPEG stream from AE's render cue unless it's for a quick preview. No Multi Pass rendering, No Intra Frame compression, None of anything you choose MPEG for except the container. IMHO it sholdn't even be an option in the render cue.
Use AME for delivery encoding or a 3rd party compressor. Render to Production codecs from the RQ....

  • Render Times on FCP Not Accurate?

    Hi, <- My casual Greeting
Hopefully there are a few video editors out there on the forum... cause this one is program specific....
So I have been an avid Final Cut Pro guy for the last 4 years. I love the program.... I can work very easily in it but recently I got a new job in which I have been using both FCP and Adobe Premier.
Here is my issue... I have been using files that come in as MPEG 2 and have been using MPEG Streamclip to convert them over to a ProRes file for FCP. From FCP I have had to export them into 3 formats
    1. Mpeg 4 (the file format our website takes)
    2. FLV (Format for online video sites)
    3. QuickTime (XDCAM) for our tricaster
The last week I have been using FCP and my render times have been (for a 5 min clip)
    1. Mpeg 1 hour+
    2. FLV 20 min+
    3. QuickTime (XDCAM) 1 hour +
Yesterday I was told to use Premier as my boss uses Premier on a regualr basis and I assured him that the times would be the same as FCP is a Mac native program and that Premier was made to work on a mac but is essentially a PC program (I am eating my words now)...
I redid the renders on the same file...
On premier the render times were
    1. Mpeg 30+ min
    2. FLV 12 min
    3. QuickTime (XDCAM) 40 min
Why is this? Do I just have something really messed up in my settings that FCP is not rendering quickly and Premier is? I would hate to have to hop over to Premier... I enjoy using FCP way to much.
The other question I have is why are FCP render times not accurate...
The renders will start saying 5 min then 10 then an hour etc.... and the time will not be accurate. If it says 5 min it may go for an hour... or if it says an hour it may just complete while still telling me I have an hour to wait.
Adobe Premier, right off the bat, will tell me the frame it is on and the percent and time left... almost to the T.
If possible... please help me get my fcp back on the right track.
    Tim

Rendering can be much faster if you have a multi core intel Mac and you use Qmaster with Quick Clusters.
    Here's how.
Set up Quick Clusters in Qmaster. (A description of how to do this is in the manual and also can be found in the Qmaster forum here in the Apple discussions as well as out on the web.)
Export your sequence from FCP using "current settings". (Do NOT use Quicktime Conversion!)
Open up Compressor and submit your file. Add the three output elements.
Submit the file and click "use unmanaged services"
Go have a cup of coffee while all the cores chug away at things. I guarantee it will be faster than the way you are currently exporting (if you aren't using clusters)

  • Render times of certain project slow down

    Hi,
i have a certain tv-promo-project where i have to render several comps which all include the same amount of text and just a hand full of additional graphic elements, e.g. a lensflare and a glowing line which separats the text blocks.
The text of the specific promo-comps are read out of a "main text comp" by expressions. The expression is as follows:
    txt = comp("Master Textkomposition").layer("Textebene").text.sourceText;
    txt.split("\r")[0]
The rendertimes of the project are constantly slowing down as the render queue and the process goes on. The first comp takes about 8 Minutes to render (it is only 10 sec long) and the second already 20 min, where the third comp reaches like 2 hours of render time.
I also recognized that even the preview in the timeline is really slow, although the used effects are usually not that performance heavy.
    My System specs:
    After Effects CS6 11.0.4.2
    Mac Pro 5,1
    Processor       2 x 2,93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    RAM                24 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC

Drive c:           500 GB SSD (Apps & Disk Cache)
Drive d:           2 TB HDD (Project & Source Media)
Drive e:           1 TB HDD (Render & Media Cache)
Does anybody have a clue what this problem could be about?
    Any help is appreciated

  • Still image render times

I have been importing some jpegs into a 10-minute FCE 4.0.1 project. I have applied fade-in/fade-out, keyframes and some motion blur to each, but nothing excessive. The render times, however, are astonishing: nearly an hour for each picture and getting longer with every successive picture I add to the timeline. I would expect effects to slow things down, but not to that extent.
I don't believe the hardware is a limitation and drive space isn't an issue, but would there be something wrong with settings or workflow?
The images are slotting into a 1920x1080 video made of 29.97fps HD clips, imported via MPEG Streamclip / AIC. The clips have been rendering quickly, but the stills are slooooooooooooooow.
    Am I missing/misunderstanding something obvious?

    Tom/David:
    Thanks for your replies.
The images come from various sources (self-shot digitally, scanned from old prints, provided from other people's iPhoto archives, bought from online libraries etc), so their specs vary quite a lot. Some are mono. some are color.
Item Properties in FCE tells me that the smallest is 300x396 photo-JPEG, square pixels. The largest is 5096x5100 photo-JPEG, square pixels. Render times seem not to depend on image size or the degree of scaling down or scaling up to fit the project. It's always between 45mins and one hour per image. Where would I find more-detailed information on each image (RGB 8-bit, for instance), if that is crucial?
I render between adding each pic because I like to check that each pic's timing is frame perfect. Exasperated by the render time after the first couple of pics, I figured that I might proceed more quickly if I added three images on the timeline at once and then rendered. The render simply took three times as long.
The sequence spec is HD, 29.97fps, AVCHD AIC 1920x1080i60

  • Unusual render times

Hello, I seem to be experiencing weird, fluctuating render times with my projects. Some 10+ minute projects render in 20 minutes or so, others like the one below take far too long for what they are.
    I am running a Macbook Pro, 2.5ghz Intel Core i7, 8GB 1333 Mhz DDR3 ram, and an AMD Radeon HD 6770M 1GB.
Here is a current project I am working on at the moment - please excuse the blurred sections, this is an internal business video and I am required to do this for security.
The maximum filesize will only be est. 134mb, the length of the video is 3 and a half minutes, and I am only rendering at 720p with 90 second keyframes. When I render this file it takes upwards of 2 hours; sometimes longer.
The source files are 1920x1080 and 1440x1080, and I have 4-5 nested sequences approx 10-20 seconds long each with warp stabilizer applied to them.
I also have fast color corrector applied to all clips. I usually have a VBR of min-4 max-6 but attempted to change it to CBR to see if that decreased rendering time; it didn't.
I've also tried optimizing the memory for both rendering and memory in the preferences window, but I see no difference.
Can you spot anything that might be causing this render to take so long?
Thanks in advance for your help.
    Brendan

Thanks for the speedy reply, shootemz. I had no control over the source footage unfortunately and the video needs to be uploaded to a private Youtube channel, so I just selected the Youtube preset from the Export Settings section - and Youtube seems to have a sad every time I try to upload anything that isn't 29.97fps so that's the one I chose.
So all of the things you mentioned increase the encoding time? I didn't know that! I am new to this type of export. It's always been very straight forward in my past jobs. I guess I will play around with the settings and see if I can keep them as close to the source as possible. Thanks for the reply! If anyone else has any other suggestions I would love to hear them also.
