  • Audio Settings for Premiere CS6

Hi, I currently run a Mac Pro with a 27 inch Apple Monitor with built in camera.  The machine is also running Mountain Lion 10.8.5.  Could someone give me some clarification as to why the Audio Settings for Premiere CS6 are the way they are?
Example with a Macbook Pro and an iMac when I plug in a headphone I can get the sounds from Premiere pro as well as something from youtube to the headphones.  However in the case of the Mac Pro with the Apple Monitor, when the headphones are plugged in the youtube sounds come through but the Premiere sounds go through the monitor.  I'm aware of the audio settings but I suspect this is working by design because of the different audio options the Mac Pro have and there is nothing broken about this.
    Please advise.
    Thank you.

I've always found this a bit annoying.
The intended behaviour is that if you go into Premiere's audio settings, and choose "System Default Input/Output", it should change along with the system (so that the audio comes out wherever YouTube does). In practice, I've found this to be inconsistent in pre-CC versions of Premiere (CC fixes this).
One tip that may be helpful for you in general on a Mac Pro:
    1. If you don't already have the volume icon in the menu bar (by the clock), enable that in System Preferences > Sound.
    2. Option-click on the icon and you'll get a quick menu of your output options

  • Editing AVCHD files in Premiere CS5 – juddery movement

    Hi all,
Just got a Panasonic HDC-TM900 camcorder – it shoots 1080p @ 50fps (PAL). The format is “.mts”, with AVCHD compression.
Anyway, the issue I have is that when I import the files into Premiere CS5 to edit (Premiere says it supports the native files) – whenever the camera moving, the movement is very jerky, and also blurry during a pan. But when I play back the clip on the camcorder itself, or directly out of it via HDMI, it’s crystal clear with perfect movement.
Firstly – I am making a composition that matches the clip settings.
Secondly - my machine is very fast & can handle the files, so it’s not a processing issue.
And thirdly, they still judder when rendered (as H.264) – so it’s not just an “un-rendered media” issue.
Any Googling I’ve done seems to bring up similar issues with editing AVCHD files, but no solid solution yet. People are saying that I should transcode the files before importing into CS5 (but with no consensus on the format or software to use), and there is also a general consensus that AVCHD is a great playback format, but not the best for editing.
And what’s also odd is that the Panasonic website seems to offer the EXACT software that would seem to fix my issue, but when I click the link it’s not there!
    See here: http://www.panasonic.com/business/provideo/avchd-home.asp
Scroll down to “Software” and it says “AVCHD to P2 DVCPRO HD Transcoder” – editing P2 files would be ideal, as I’ve done this before off a P2 camera - but when I click the link, it brings me to a page with all sorts of software & utilities, but I can’t even find the words “AVCHD” or “DVCPRO” it mentioned on that download page!
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    KP.

    Hi John - it doesn't have a 1080i setting.
Here is a link to a file I shot on this camera - I imported it into CS5, made a new sequence to match eth footage (i.e. dragged it onto the "New Item" icon) and re-encoded the AVCHD file to a H.264 "Vimeo HD" preset in CS5.
It's blurry, juddery, horrible footage during any sort of movement!
    http://www.maxtronmedia.com/grove/panasonic.mp4
Yet, on the camera's own LCD (and on a TV through the camera's HDMI output), this footage looks immaculate. And yes, I tried capturing footage through the HDMI cable into my Matrox Mini and it's interlaced all over the place & pretty-much un-usable.
    Suggestions?
I just printed an Amazon returns label, so I'm probably going to send the camera back... now I just need to hope the box is still in my green bin! :/

  • Macbook Pro Compare Question for Premiere CS5.5

Hi, I am ready to buy a macbook pro to handle premiere cs5.5 processingwedding films that I edit on my imac 27".
Due to limited budget, one part of me wants the 15" screen but the 13" is $300 less expensive with the 2.8 dual core vs the 2.2 quad core of the 15".  Based on the specs below, is it worth the 300 more to get the hard drive power of the 2.2 quad core?
The 13" has 250 more GB hard drive. Will the 13" macbook pro be suitable enough to import DV film, process the final files and burn DVD's quickly and effectively?

A 5400rpm drive does not transfer data fast enough for video editing
Trying to use only ONE Hard Drive for Video Editing
You are a music conductor, with a baton that you use to point to various parts of the orchestra... this is like Windows pointing to various parts of the hard drive to do Windows housekeeping or to load program segments for various functions
Now, at the same time and with the same hand... while still using the baton to conduct the orchestra... pick up a bow and play a fiddle... this would be doing something with your video file at the same time as all the other work
You as a person cannot do both at the same time with the same hand
A computer is a LITTLE better, in that it can switch from one kind of task to another very quickly... but not quickly enough for EASY video editing
You need AT LEAST two hard drives (separate drives, never a partition http://forums.adobe.com/thread/650708 for more) with Windows (or Mac OS) and software on your boot drive, and video files on a 2nd drive so the boot drive is not slowed down by trying to do everything
I find that the three drives I use work very well for me, for editing AVCHD video... some people use a 4th drive, so video INPUT files are on drive three and all OUTPUT files are on drive four... I only bought a mid-tower case instead of a full tower case (my bad... but had to fit in the space available on my office desk!) so I use the three drives that will fit
Depending on your exact hardware (motherboard brand & model AND USB2 enclosure brand & model AND external hard drive brand & model) AND the type of video file, you may... or may NOT... be able to use an external USB2 hard drive for SD (Standard Definition) video editing
Steve Grisetti in the Premiere Elements forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856208 and Jim Simon in the Premiere Pro forum http://forums.adobe.com/thread/856433 use USB externals for editing
A USB3 hard drive connected to a motherboard with USB3 is supposed to be fast enough for video editing (I don't have such, so don't know) but eSata DOES have a fast enough data transfer for video editing... I have not used the eSata Dock below... for reference only, YMMV and all the usual disclaimers

  • Best Export / Video settings for Premiere Pro. Help Needed.

What's the best settings when you want to export a video from Premiere Pro for the web or otherwise. Best settings = good quality video and LOW file size.
Benchmark : The videos on Apple Trailers. Check them out at http://www.apple.com/trailers
The trailers are of high quality video, great sounds, and the Large sizes all fall under the 25MB mark. Any ideas on HOW this is done and what
settings in Premiere Pro CS3 might be able to replicate such standards?
Any help is appreciated. I normally use Encoder and export using H264 but that always seems to have an Audio lag. Any similar issues?
    Thanks a mil!

I understand that better quality = bigger file size. That's true in most cases, but there is a way around it, I'm just not sure what that way is. As I mentioned in the original post, the benchmark is http://www.apple.com/trailers . The non-HD videos on any movie page on that site hardly ever exceeds the 25MB mark. The videos are 2-3minutes long, and while they may not be top-notch BD visuals, they look way better than 95% of the stuff that's streamed off the net.
That's why I asked if anyone had any ideas on how to replicate something like that. Say I had a avi file of great quality, shot with a Panasonic DV Cam. I Capture the footage, do whatever I have to in Pr, and the result is now a 3minute video. I want it exported to a Quicktime file, I want it to look visually pleasing like the trailers on Apple, and I want it to fall under 25MB. I have tried H.264 encoding, regular Quicktime, and Quicktime via Encoder. Nothing reaches the expected quality.
For more examples visit http://www.passionpictures.com.my/pages/recent.aspx and download those simple 30second clips. All Quicktime, mostly under 5.5MB. If Pr can't do it, then I don't know what can...so I'm sure Pr can do it.
Problem is, how? Experimentation is definitely a way to go, I get that. But on the basis of the scenario given above...how is it done?

  • My first built system for Premiere CS5. Need advice to approve hardware list.

    Hi All:
After some research and reading some of the posts I have cane up with the hardware list I (think) I will need to built my first editing system for Premiere, Photoshop and AE CS5. I have came out so far with an estimate of around US$1500.00, without considering yet the hard drives. I do not if top wait a little bit until prices drop or just do it. I am not sure yet if I will start with an SSD for the OS and what type yet. I will figure it out later and ask your kind advice.
As I post my list I will note what options it would be recommended for a good system. I just have a basic acknowledge of computers and excuse me if I make any insane comments. I hace seen some videos and read some other users experiences and I am very confident I can built my very first system.
I am planning to start ordering some of the parts as soon as possible (like the case, BDR) and tdo the rest in the next days.

  • Need advice on encode settings for Premiere file to be played back on DVD

Hi - hoping someone can help me with my encoding settings.  I seem to be on the right track because everything looks good until you play the video on DVD.
I use Windows Movie Maker to encode my exports to DVD.  This software does not accept MP4 but it seems to accept a variety of other files and one is WMV.  I first exported a WMV clip from Premiere at 1920x1080 (the raw video and graphics are also in that size).  Then I exported another WMV clip to 1280x720.  I just wanted to see what both of them look like on a DVD during play back.
    Here are the export settings:
Here is what the1280 WMV looks like when it's played back on my desktop computer in Windows Media player.  As you'll see everything looks very clean:
I then imported the 2 WMV clips into Windows Movie Maker, selected the 16:9 settings, and it encoded them into a finished DVD.  I then played the DVD back on my 50 inch TV in my living room.  Below you'll see a photo I took of the 1920 clip; notice how the text looks jagged:
Then the photo below of the 1280 clip looks much cleaner.
But obviously I'd like for the finished DVDs to look if possible even cleaner than the 1280 photo above - hopefully like it looks in the photo of the WMV playing back on my computer.  These videos will be distributed to different local offices.
Are my WMV settings correct?  Should I export to other than WMV? How can I improve on the 1280 DVD photo above so everything looks even cleaner (if possible)?  I have Adobe Encore - should I use that instead of Movie Maker?
    Any help is appreciated.  Thanks.

A DVD is 720x480 so anything larger must be scaled down to be legal according to the DVD specification

  • How do I pick the right settings for Premiere Elements 10?

I have Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and want to edit videos that I had received from a company that transferred my Super 8 home videos to digital format and saved them on an external hard drive. They have avi file extension, Apple Motion JPEG A codec , frame size: 1920 x 1080, pixel aspect ratio: 16:9, Frames per second: 29.97. I am not sure what settings to select for the best picture quality. I have tried some and the quality is poor. I need help. Thanks

Unfortunately, you can not edit MJPEG videos in Premiere Elements, Editer.
Actually, some people can. It depends on your machine. But for the most part, it won't go -- and there's no guarantee that even installing that codec will make it. (But you can try. Just install your camera's software -- which sometimes works.)
The wisest solution is to convert the file to a DV-AVI using a program like MPEG Streamclip, as discussed in this FAQ.

  • Audio Settings for Premiere Pro CS4 during capture

During some other discussions regarding audio challenges with PP CS4 someone pointed out that if you analyze a file with G spot it should be in WAV format. I did this and I see my footage is showing PCM Audio at 48000Hz 1536 kb/s tot (2 chnls). Based on the fact that I record SD footage (audio selected to 16 bit 48k) onto a Mini DV tape on a DVX 100B and export via Firewire into PP CS4 does that sound right?
In the Preferences window I have Premiere Pro WDM Sound selected as the default device (Adobe default windows sound and creative ASIO are the other options) . The input and output in Audio Hardware Settings has the Buffer size sliding bar at about 25% across from the left and the Device 32-bit playback is unchecked.
I am just worried about what my dialog will sound like by the time it is edited in PP and send to Encore to export to DVD.
Thanks for any input you can offer.
    Cole

GSpot should have shown the audio as WAV not PCM.
These are two different things.  WAV is a computer file format for audio files, much like TXT is a format for text files or EXE is a format for executable files (programs).  This is just the specifications for the file formatting on the hard drive.  It applies to audio only files.  Those which contain both audio and video will not be WAV files.
PCM (Pulse Code Modulation) is a method of encoding analog audio, turning it into a digital signal.  This applies to both computers and separate components (CD players, DAWs, most cameras).  It is the codec CDs use.  It is also the standard for DV.  Even most WAV files contain PCM audio.

  • Timecode fix for Premiere CS5 with 10.7.2

I'm having the same issue others are reporting of timecode not appearing since upgrading to 10.7.2. I see a fix has been issued for CS5.5, does anyone know if one is coming for CS5?

    Hi Todd,
I found this thread after having the same problem with CS5 and OSX 10.8.
    My thread is here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/4863161#4863161
I feel I received a "Windows vs Mac" answer. I just wanted to know if the problem is definietly fixed in CS5.5 or CS6?
    Another discussion here: http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/932541
says that there's still a problem with CS5.5.2 on OSX 10.6.8.
I'm running CS5 on OSX 10.8.2 and having the problem. So Apple hasn't fixed anything about an overlay conflict with CS yet.
I'd upgrade CS if someone would please just tell me which version of CS had definitely resolved the conflict. Adobe must have tested for this by now, right?
    Thanks for your time,

  • Need printer workflow settings for PS CS5 and HP Photosmart 8750

    Friends:
This question must get asked periodically, but I couldnt find an answer:
I have Photoshop CS5 and an HP Photosmart 8750 Printer with these inkjet cartridges (original HP) availiable: (97 Tricolor, 101 Blue Photo, 102 Gray Photo)  I also have HP glossy phot paper.  Using a Mac Pro with OS 10.6.5 (Snow Leopard)
What do I set my PS5, My Print dialog and my Print Setting to get a decent color photo?  I get muddy photos now and am wating lots of fine glossy photo paper.  To get an aproximate photo I have to boost brightness by 60% on my photo.  Still the printed photo doenst look like the screen.
Thanks for your help, printer profiles and suggestions!!
    Migs

At the company I work for we hardly print from Photoshop as we have a pdf-workflow, but I think you might make it easier for others to help you if you provide screenshots (posted with the camera icon) of your print dialog windows, especially those regarding Color Management.

  • PC for prem CS5? GTX 480, which brand? Shuttle?

    Hi
I'm trying to decide for a graphics card and PX-box for premiere CS5.
I'm considering bying the GTX 480
There are some different makers of that card:
    MSI, Gainward, ASUS, EVGA
Any suggestions why I should select one manufacturer before the other?
I see EVGA has some superclocked versions.... any thoughts about those?
I'm also considering buying the Shuttle SX58J3 SFF computer, support up to 16GB memory, LGA1366 Socket, Intel X58 Express, up to 4 SATA-300 disks.
Reason for this choice is that I want to be able to take the PC with me without to much hassle.
This comes standard with a 500W PS, but I belive I should be able to put in another more powerful PS... e.g. a 600W one.
Or is this a bad choice?
    I7 CPU:
    2.8 GHz or 3.2 GHz ?
Any suggestions on which CPU and number of cores, will I notice that much difference between 2.8 and 3.2?
I'm to edit footage from Canon 5D MK II.

As for your original post, Shuttle is out of the question - buy a nice asus MB - they will all be pretty much the same for the i7.
I took an HP 180 (I7 975 8 thread quad duo core proc, put 24 GB of ram in it (at hp's expense) then yanked out their GTX-200 that came stock and put a GTX-480 from EVGA.
The GTX480 uses ALOT of power.  When I say ALOT I mean 3 ea SLI cables - not one or two like most cards.  So my 4xsli corsair 850W ps BARELY got ONE GTX 480 running in this system, but it is running very stable, and premiere pro plus media converter just rip through avchd like nobody's business (my other PC estimated a week to transcode a couple of hours of avchd video from a canon hfs-10 camera shot at 24mbps 1080x1920.  It was a quad core 2.83 Ghz system with an SLI card) - I just gave my new machine that task, the lights dimmed in the room, and in 30 min it was finished.
Cramming all the nice wire loomed power cables from the 850W p/s wasn't easy but they did finally fit and all the covers went on, plus I have room internally for a second 2TB hitachi drive, and 2 ea external (oh thank you) SATA plugs.
I just got this card in here and fired the puppy up, so now its time to make sure all the drivers are proper, but it seems to be.  I think the lesson I learned after having to rip out HP's little chinese power supply is GO BIG on the power supply - and if you are even thinking of SLI, go TWICE as big.  The 850W supply runs one GTX480 card, one disc drive, and an i7/975+24GB ram and a video recorder card.  The air comming out the back is HOT - as in heater hot.
The second lesson I learned is get a big case!  This tiny HP case is cute and all that but it lacks the room inside for much internal hardware.  It's a midsize tower case - If I were doing it from scratch I'd buy a fullsize tower case.
So why didn't I?  I got a great deal on the 24GB of ram from HP and the 1GHZ pricessor.  I paid less for a maxed out system than I could buy the ram and the processor for due to discounts.  Unfortunately HP never thought anyone would stuff a corsair 850 and GTX 480 inside where their itty bitty stuff once was.
If you have a big enough case (floor standing full height) and a big enough power supply (6 SLI) 1500 W you could probably make a decent SLI system with 2 GTX480 pcbs (you realize thats 1024 cuda cores, ,right?)
Think Big and you won't be using drive bays to stuff power cables into  so you can get the lid on the system.  As others have said, asus, bfg, evga all make good equipment.  I found a sweet deal on the evga which is the only reason I went that direction.  Sweet deals change in one week, so be sure to buy what you want when the price dips.  If you are planning a real SLI system, buy BOTH cards form the same MFGR at the same time
