Average battery life of 3GS?

How long should I expect the battery to last in an iPhone 3GS while in Airplane Mode? Since upgrading to 4.1, my phone's battery will discharge completely overnight, even if left in Airplane mode.
I am not asking for any fixes (I've already performed a number of the suggested fixes in this forum and I have spoken w/Apple tech support), nor am I suggesting that my battery life is directly related to the upgrade; I just want to know for purposes of comparison what other users are experiencing.

Thank you for sharing your experiences, Alain. At this time I have a replacement 3GS while Apple tries to figure out the problem with mine. In all likelihood I will probably end up keeping the replacement. Before iTunes would allow me to restore from backup on the new/replacement phone, I had to upgrade the OS to 4.1.
The first night, the battery was 100% and I left the phone on all night (not in Airplane mode, Bluetooth off, push notification for mail off) and I had 30% battery life left after about 8 hours. It's an improvement over what I had been experiencing on my old phone, but still not ideal by any stretch.
I will heed your advice and on this phone I won't open the Game Center. I'd like to delete it altogether if I could!
If the battery drain worsens on this new phone, I will try resetting and restoring as you suggest, though I found that the apps don't restore properly if you have any folders, and it's a PITA to reorganize them.

  • What is average battery life everyone is getting for the Zen Mic

I just got my Zen Micro last Thursday. I'm concern about the battery life. I haven't fully tested the battery yet, but I'm estimating that I will only get about 6-7 hours for it. The advertised time was suppose to be as much as 2 hours. Now I know that depends on your usage (e.g. volume, bitrate of the file, play mode, etc.). What are other people getting? Thanks.

My last test, I tried to be as natural as possible. That is: back light is on; shuffle mode is on; eq is on; volume is normal (at 4 to 6); I skip or go back to tracks; I fast foward; the contrast is at 50 percent; average bitrate (from 28 to 360); smart sound off; and other minor things that I can't remember. That test gave me only 7.5 hours.
I think that is pretty modest usage. Any average mp3 user would do the same thing. Yet, I only got 7.5 out of the possible 2. I don't like the sounds of that.
I'm running another test right now with the same conditions above, and I'll let you guys know what I get.

  • Average battery life

i was wondering if the average life of a fully charged battery is 3+ days when ocassional use? i was concerned because i got a new phone which i partially charged then used it till it discharged completey and with wi-fi on and it lasted 4.3 hours. now after i charged it again im getting 3.3 hours without wi-fi on. also note that when im at school which is 25% of time per day with little to no signal, if that impacts battery life. thanks.

I have seen my battery life very greatly. I once left the house on a full charge at 5 pm and stayed at a friend's place and did not plug in the phone overnight. Then the next day I got up and drove 8 1/2 hours to visit family and listened to audio on the phone for a large majority of the time and finished the trip with a half hour phone call. At this point I did have the 10% battery remaining warning, but I was very impressed that it wasn't dead.
On the flip side, last week I had a couple days where I left in the morning on a full charge, listened to audio at work for maybe an hour and I received the 20% battery warning on my way home. Please note that in this instance I had WiFi turned on and did not have WiFi on in the first scenario. However, I am actually still a little concerned about this as I don't think the battery should have been drained that quickly.
I have since turned WiFi off and set the Mail app to retrieve mail every hour instead of every 15 minutes and have been getting 2 days use without charging.
    Hope this helps.

  • What is the average battery life supposed to be for the nano?

my battery lasts like 2-3 hours, which is way to short, how long does yours last?

Mine only lasted between 2 and 4 hours, but it was the way I used my nano. I search around a lot, use the backlight, skip songs and really do everything that is not good for battery life. What I finaly did was to put in a higher capacity battery. It really was not hard to do. My ipod nano was off warranty and I went ahead and did it and am so happy I did, I now get well over twice the life I used to and am very happy. My ipod video was still on warranty and I changed the battery to a higher capacity as well, because of the positive result from my nano. Go here to determin your real battery life and to see if it is in fact a bad battery. If it is and you are still under warranty then by all means take it to the apple store or go online for service. • Average Macbook Battery Life

I'm thinking about buying a 13-inch 2.13 GHz Macbook with a 4gb RAM upgrade. I was told that the average battery life of a Macbook is 5 hours. Is this about right?

Every manufacturer estimates battery life under conditions that almost no one would actually fine usable. My older BlackBook (with a newish battery) gets 3 to 3.5 hours without my trying at all hard. By making sure that all my applications are already running, turning off BlueTooth and WiFi, and turning down the backlight to the bare minimum, and saving files infrequently I can get just over 4 hours. I've never gotten close to 5.

  • Battery Life on iPhone 5 with IOS 7.0.2

    Hi all,
What's the average battery life on iPhone after the upgrade to IOS 7.0.2?
I tried to put my phone (with 100% full battery) on Airplane Mode before I went to bed (around 11pm).
When I checked my phone at 6.30am in the morning, it's only 1% battery left --> 7 hours on Airplane Mode???
The next night, I put my phone on standby mode (Wifi on, Location Services Off, Bluetooth Off, 3G/4G off) same time (11ish)
Next morning at 7am, 5% battery left --> 8 hours on standby with just Wifi On.
I found it a bit weird because before the IOS 7 upgrade, if I put my phone on Airplane Mode, it will last for more than a day.
Wondering if any of you guys has the same issue with the battery?
    Thanks.

I received an iPhone 5 for Christmas and had an iPhone 4.S previously which had no battery issues at all.  The new phone is diabolical in terms of battery life.  I have done all the things that people recommend on here to try and extend the battery life but to no avail.  Just sitting overnight with nothing running in the background drains the battery considerably.   What else can I do?   I have AppleCare on this phone so the people there offer to replace the phone for me BUT the replacement phone does not arrive in a new box and the respresentative was very fuzzy about the fact he would/could not assure me I would receive a brand new phone in its' box.  He just kept saying it will be a 'replacement phone' which is totally unacceptable as this phone is unlocked so we paid full price for it.   The phone is not reliable - whilst out for a full day's ski-ing (I was not ski-ing, just hanging around!) and using the phone for very light Internet browsing and only a few short e-mails, the battery just drained away in front of my eyes so I had to turn it off completely as I have no car charger yet and certainly had not thought to take my electrical charger with me (we won't even talk about the stupidity of making the new charger not fit my other Apple products (three of them!).
I really am so disappointed and don't know what to do next.   As BCCconvert asks, what can we do???  thanks for any help offered.

  • How long can you play mp3's/maximum battery life?

What is the average battery life for a 30 gig, early 5th generation Ipod video? I'm asking as I get about 5 hours using Apples instructions for maximum battery life.

Usually, the battery life for the original Fifth Generation iPods was approximately 12-15 hours, I think, although I'm not perfectly sure about that estimate.
Anyways, about 5 horus is not normal for your iPod, and I woulkd suggest that you send your iPod in for service (if it is still under warranty).

  • Question about battery life

    Hi everyone,
I got my refurbished MBP 13" mid 2010 model two Friday's ago (July 16) from the Apple online store and I have some questions about the battery life....
Immediately after I got it, I followed all the battery calibration instructions from apple.com/batteries (and did it again after it because I was unsure if I did it properly). While it was charging, I was installing some recommended applications, one being coconutBattery. In the additional information section, it said that my MBP was 7 weeks old, has gone threw 10 battery load cycles, and had a original battery capacity of 97%. I am now at 17 loadcycles, with 94% original battery capacity.
Now to how much time I get with the battery... I have done some testing of my own, such as watching some movies (Tron and Star Trek First Contact, I'm a geek :D), basic web browsing (5 tabs open, reading blogs, watching a couple of 3 minute youtube videos) and listening to an audio book (iWoz) with a tab or two open. The best battery life I have gotten (basic web browsing) was 5 1/2 hours, with 60% LCD brightness, keyboard backlight off, and bluetooth off, with just Chrome and coconutBattery open.
Is this the average battery life for everyone else? I bought this because of its supposedly good battery life, and though I am very happy with my purchase, I just want to make sure that I have a fully working MBP.
    Some other notes:
The battery meter next to the clock sometimes says that 98% is fully charged (I think it is just a glitch)
The estimated battery life is between 9-11 hours when brightness is at 30%-40%, airport and bluetooth is off, and keyboard backlight is off when I am doing text editing.
    Thanks in advance.
EDIT: Forgot to say I have the 2.4ghz 250gb model.

    Maximum Battery Charge:5490 mAh
    Current Battery Capacity:5490 mAh
    Original Battery Capacity:5770 mAh
    Battery-Loadcycles: 17
Age of your Mac: 2 months (I have had it 2 weeks)
    Charger is connected: Yes
    Battery is charging: No

  • Re: battery life of equium A200-VO1 laptop

I bought a new Equium VO1 and I want to know the average battery life for this laptop's battery.
I am just able to use it for 1.15 until it stops and I am not sure if this is the case with only my pc or this is what u get from toshiba????
    Thanks
    Owez...

There are three settings for your battery life extension 1) Balance 2) Power save 3) high performance the lower numbers give you a longer battery life with the same performance just double click on your battery icon bottom right of screen and it should tell you what the power setting are and you can change the settings from thereas well, power saver setting should extend your battery life by about 20mins but that is the limit of the equium A200.

  • Apple Bluetooth battery life

I'm curious if I am getting average battery life from my headset. I left the house the morning at 8:00am with the iphone and headset fully charged. The headset was paired and on until I returned home at 6:00pm. During this time I had two phone calls that totaled about 30 minutes. When I plugged in the headset to charge it showed the battery level at red. Is 30 minutes the average for the headset before it needs charging again? Thanks for you help !!

Most of the time it will appear red, but check it again after a minute or two and it will be more accurate. It must take a little time to properly gauge the battery in the headset.
You should get a lot more than 1 day of use as you describe. Mine goes to 2.5 to 3 days used like that.

  • Average battery use age in a day.

What is the average battery life supposed to be on an iPhone 5? I'm getting 5 hours useage and 15 hours standby. Is this ok. It seems to really drain the battery quickly.

The 5 hours aren't really doing anything too intensive, maybe a quick look through Facebook and twitter, few mins watching YouTube and general Internet browsing. I do use numbers for a Timesheet for work but I have been making sure I close all apps after.
I've also turned off push and majority of notifications.
My iPhone 4 seemed loads better.

  • 3GS battery life question

So anyway, I've took a 3gs back for battery life issues. And the Genius bar gave me a return, (not for the battery life but for something faulty with the display)
Well, I am really glad I took it back. My phone is actually working a lot faster, and now it doesn't freeze to a white screen that is somehow able to operate even though you can't see what your doing (why I got the return)
    I was wondering two things.
    1) It is a week 29 (July) phone, so would it be possible that it is a refurb? I ask this because I want to know if i should condition the battery.
2)Is there any reason why I can get advertised (or close to) battery life while making a call, but 2/3 (or less) battery life on internet use?
I am still really happy with this phone compared to my last one. I had over an hour of use purely on the phone, and had 95% battery life, It was amazing. Compared with the 80% it would be at on my previous phone

Thank you for replying, and if you could again, it would be greatly appreciated.
1)I was asking about whether they would be able to refurbish the phone, which is a week 29 phone. And I bought it on august 8th. Because I don't think it would be really necessary to condition a refurbished phones battery.
2)I have excellent wifi strength, 3g off, brightness at 50% or less, location services on, not using other apps, just the safari app, not using speaker, room temperature conditions. I just think it is weird that I can get about 10-11 hr battery life just using the phone function. But I think I am getting less than 5-6 hrs on wifi internet

  • 3GS battery life and current location problems

I have a 3GS. Until I took a holiday in Mexico it worked fine. On return, the battery life is one half or less as before. I thought I may have picked up a virus or something connecting to the local WiFi (data roaming turned off). I restored a backup and no change. Then I noticed that the 3GS was not able to find its location. I tried several suggestions from several forums to no avail.
    The details:
I recently took a holiday in Mexico. On return I noticed that the battery was not holding a charge as well as it did before I departed or while I was in Mexico for that matter. On return it takes two to three charges to make it thru the day. My first thought was a virus or malware. I did some research on the forums and it was suggested that I do a restore. Ironically, gratefully, I had done a backup before I left so I preformed a restore. There was no change to battery usage. Trying more trouble shooting I discovered that my iPhone cannot find its current position. Once again I researched the forums. I tried changing the international location and back again, resetting the network settings and turning airplane mode on and off. I was able to find a location that was incorrect (several blocks away compared to right on before my holiday) one time and now once again my iPhone cannot find its/my location. On occasion, not every time, when trying to find my location I receive an error message “Could not activate cellular data network”. My theory is the battery life and in ability to find its location may be connected.
    Any help will be appreciated.

I read this and felt a funny coming on....
I know its not funny when an appliance that we depend on doesn't work right, but my funny bone said, "Did you shake the phone to reset the GPS, and did you fly backwards from Mexico to reset everything as it was before you left?"
    Forgive me!!!!
