Average Temps Question

What should be the average temps for my cpu and my system be, and if my HS feels hot to the touch should I add more arctic Silver to my CPU. My CPU temps is at 47'c and my sys temp 39'c

The trick with AS, well any thermal paste is to use the absolute minimum to give your the best contact between CPU and HSF. Make sure it is level and there are no air pockets.

  • Another temp question on MBPr 15...211F peak operating temp?

Hello, I know this is a somewhat redundant question, but my own situation is slightly different from other situations.
I purchased a MBPr a few days ago (11,3 with the 2.5 i7 quad.) This is my fourth MBP. All have ran hot as I realize the aluminum casing works differently than a plastic casing, but this particular one runs a bit hotter than the 2011 8,2 (2.3 GHz i7, 16 GB RAM, 512 SSD, 1 GB GPU, OS X Mavericks) it replaced, and the fans wait for higher temperatures to ramp up. The CPU die temp can elevate to a peak of 211F under max load (measured with iStat Menus, which I assume is not totally accurate), and the fans themselves wait until a higher temp to ramp up compared to my previous computers. By peak load I mean running statistical software to crunch a large dataset for an extended period that maxes the CPU and has pushed every Mac I have ever owned above 200F for brief periods. The difference is that the other Macs were right around 200-204F, where as this rMBP is 210-211.
Under moderate load, it maintains a reasonably cool working temp of 110-150F depending what I am doing, which is more or less the same as my previous model. It manages to do this with much lower fan speeds, which I assume is due to the more efficient design of the Retina models. The outer casing remains cooler than my previous model. Functionally this computer is fantastic, and it is not throttling CPU performance at these higher temps.
The Apple Store is quite a drive, and Apple Tech Support told me they are unable to tell me if this is or is not within normal operating temps, which is rather frustrating as I am 80% sure this is not a problem at all. But given this is a $3,000 investment, I prefer to ask others.
So I ask you, is this something worth being concerned about, or is this within acceptable operating parameters? TIA.

I cannot give you a definitive answer but be aware that there is a thermal protection circuit that will shut down the MBP before it commits Hari Kari.

I am surprised that the Apple support would not commit to an answer.  If I were in your position, I would ask what is the thermal shut down temperature for your model MBP.  I would think they should be able to answer that question.
    Ciao.

  • General water cooling temp question....

So I've got a water cooling loop set up with both my video cards and my CPU... My CPU idles at 40c, and i haven't seen it go past 60c under full load. My 2 video cards run about the same 42c at idle, and 63c in fur mark under load... This is with my radiator fans at half speed. Got 4 120mm 133 CFM fans on it.
So my question is are these bad temps?
p.s. my loop goes CPU VID card 1 then VID card 2.

The temps look good and if the PC is rock stable with them don t worry about it.Over 80 Celsius may look bad ,but thats not your case.
The GPU should be able to do even 80 Celsius.

  • Hatter- memory temp question

Hatter- installed 4x2Gb from owc. noticed that dimm A2 runs 10-15 degrees farenheit hotter than other three. System operation is great, no errors, etc. Max dimm temps are about 140 degrees farenheit (ambient temp 68) noticed in an old post of yours you had heard of a firmware update to solve this- any luck? should I even worry? What(in your opinion)is the worry temp for dimms? thanks.

ok. re-arranged the dimms three different times, got them all within about +/- 7degrees f in relation to the average. I am using OWC stock ram. I tried to buy techworks from them but they were out of stock & couldn't confirm when the techworks would arrive. According to their site they haven't had any techworks 2GB sticks for three weeks. The salesman "assured" me these were just as good (why do I listen to salesman?). Anyway, I put the "hot" one in the "coldest" slot & "coldest" in the "hottest" slot. I pushed the system pretty hard for an hour & hit these temps-
    A1- 132.0 F 55.5C
    A2- 130.2 F 54.5C
    B1- 135.6 F 57.5C
    B2- 121.2 F 49.5C
ambient air 68.0F 20C (Its cold here in Minnesota)
This is the best combination I can get. The dimm in B2 stays cold, the one in B1 gets hot no matter where I put them.
Should this be cause for alarm? I have download fancontrol, these numbers were taken with fans at default. Should I insist on different dimms? Or not worry about it & get back to using this system for what I bought it for- recording music. Any input appreciated.

  • NF750-G55 temp question

hello all. im having a bit of an issue here. ive had this board for a few months now and ive just noticed this icon labeled motherboard temp.  what is this exactly?  ive included a screen shot.  it says 82c.  thats a little high isnt it?  could it be a malfunctioning sensor.   im using the latest stable version of HWINFO32.  i also have a question about another sensor.  the mcp temp.  would this be the northbridge temp?
    any help would be greatful.
    pc specs:
    amd [email protected]
    8gb gskill @1333mhz
    asus 560ti 950/1900/2200
    msi nf750-g55 mbo
    corsair ax850 psu

I'm seeing oddball temps too on one sensor...
    driving me nuts, it is.
    HWINFO64 shows:
CPU: 39 (I'm running prime95 on it to test for stability...)
    Auxillary:29
    Motherboard:109
They are fluctating, so I know it's measuring SOMETHING... but 109C?  Damn baby cook eggs on that!
Where on the motherboard is this sensor?
The heatsink to the REAR of the cpu slot is not hot, the one by the PCI/PCIE slots is pretty warm to the touch...

  • NB Temp question

    Hey
I overclocked my cpu from 2.8 ghz to 3.2 ghz.
My cpu temp is normal 38°C and stressed 50°C but my NB temp is 55°C,
is this to high or is it ok
    Greetz

When asking a question about your motherboard it is best if you tell us what board you have. You may have heard we are psychic's, but that is not correct - we are mostly just psycho's
Since this question arises most often for the 865PE Neo2 and 875P Neo boards, I assume you have one of these. These boards don't actually have an NB sensor installed, so the displayed temperature is meaningless. Read  P4 Neo Unofficial Guide

  • Fan and temp questions about 8 core

My 8 core Mac Pro was just delivered this morning and I have a couple questions. First, it runs quiet...much quieter than my parents quad G5. Intake and exhaust fan speeds at idle are 500/600 rpm respectively. That's about half of the quad G5. From Hardware Monitor, my core temps range from 132F to 145F which is much hotter than the 110-ish of the G5. One interesting thing to note is that CPU A heatsink is at 109 degrees while CPU B is over 125. It always runs 15-20 degrees cooler than the other. Does this look alright?
I ran some Cinebench and Altivec Fractal tests which also came up with some interesting results. The Altivec Fractal maxed out all cores. Their temps rose quickly to the 180-200 degree F range. Two of the cores got into the low 200's. The fans didn't even look like they had sped up yet. I closed the program in fear of doing any damage and took a look at the fan graph. The fans were actually starting to speed up after I quit the program. I ran the test again and the fans seemed to ramp up a lot faster than before and caught the cores at 200 degrees. Maybe they were a little lazy on the first try?
An comments would be appreciated. Other than that, I'm very happy with the performance of the octa-core.

They are thankfully very very quiet. The air coming out is hot none the less.
you might want to look into installing smcFanControl
    http://www.versiontracker.com
which can be used to set higher default fan speed, as well as let you change it from menu bar to other settings / preferences.
I have settings for 750-1000-1500-2000 rpm. 1000 or less and it is still quiet.
Someone asked about max temps and 'frying' an Xeon, but apparently it is kind of a complex cpu, it has a number of built-in safeguards to shut itself down... but the Intel rep that someone emailed with wouldn't get into specifics.
I would worry about heat affecting drives and also an X1900. That think is good at pushing air out the back, but it also pulls in the internal (hot) air, and can pull fine dust etc into the sealed video card housing, which can be a problem of its own.
Always give the Mac Pro time to cool off before opening the doors. Those FBDIMMs don't like sudden shock stress of changes in temperatures.

  • CPU VDD Control over Voltage and Temps questions

Hi Im running a msi890gxm-g65 with 1055t and g skill ddr3 ram at 1667 and am sitting overclocked at 3.5 Ghz with voltage at 1.375. I was trying to push it further so i know i had to increase my voltage but whenever i increased the option CPU Voltage in bios to any number it would always show as 1.375 in any program such as cpuz or coretemp. So i noticed i had to increase the CPU VDD Voltage option also to be able to obtain the voltage i wanted. So my question is how do those two work together? to obtain whatever voltage i want should i change both of these to the same number ?
Also in bios which i know is not idle I am noticing my temps at around 46C which is around what my full load will be with prime ( with a max of 50C after 12 hours for a short period) as reported by coretemp and hwmonitor. I know there is many reports that Thuban 1055t temps are not reported accurately in software programs so that it would be a good bet to add 10-15C to whatever the software temp is shown.  So does anyone know how much load is put on system when bios is showing temperature, i just want to make sure im not running it to hot as i know they should not exceed 62C, and i expect to overclock it more then it currently is.

thanks im getting kind of confused though i noticed if i change CPU VDD Voltage and CPU Voltage to the same number it will change what is reported in cpuz VID. I changed it down to 1.35 instead of default 1.375.
So basically for CPU VDD VOLTAGE and CPU VOLTAGE do i need to change both of these to the same number to get required voltage needed for my overclock ?
Also i had to raise my CPU NB Voltage to be able to boot into windows past 3.8ghz and few minutes of prime seems fine.
    My current settings are
CPU VDD VOLTAGE AND CPU VOLTAGE are at 1.387 and CPU NB VOLTAGE AND CPU NB VDD VOLTAGE are at 1.3
    Running 272x 14 = 3.8 ghz and ddr3 memory running at 1450mhz.
I cant seem to get it past this ghz even when raising cpu to 1.475, should i raise cpu nb voltage more to achieve ? had same problem at 3.5ghz and cpu nb set to auto.
Are the voltages i posted safe ?? are CPU VDD VOLTAGE AND CPU VOLTAGE the same thing and cpu nb vdd and cpu nb vdd the same thing as well ?

  • Inventory Average Costing Question

    Hi,
I'm convering onhand quantity from legacy inventory system to Oracle Inventory and we use Average Costing.. Here are the steps.
    1. Converting the items via item import.
    2. Convering onhand quantity with Misc receipts using transactions interface
    3. updating the Average cost of these items via transactions interface .
When i convert the onhand quantity there is no cost for these items and all the mtl_trasnaction_accounts transactions were created with 0$.. With the average cost update, mtl_trasnaction_accounts transactions were created with $ amount..
What is the best sequence for reconcilation point iof view with the inventory and GL???
    Please suggest..
    Thanks,
    Shree

Hi, in my experience the steps you indicates are correct. Anyway, you can avoid step 3 if you put the unit cost directly in the transaction open interface. This is correct only if your costs are not divided in more than one element (eg. you have only the material cost element). If you do in this way, you will see your miscellaneous transactions will have costs and related records on MTL_TRANSACTION_ACCOUNTS will be created with a positive amount.
As you will know, also when you perform a miscellaneous transactions by using the form, you have the possibility to inidcate the unit cost. Normally you do this if your actual average cost is not correct for your transaction, or if the average cost is 0.
If you follow this indications, you should not have problem at the moment of the reconciliation with GL.

  • Core Duo Temp Question

I just got my replacement macbook from apple and so far it's working great.
Something odd I noticed is that with any temperature monitor program I use (core duo temp is one of them) the temperature seems to be locked at whatever it was at startup. It doesn't change even while running yes in two terminals. The fans to eventually turn on but for instance, I've been maxing out the cpus for about 10 minutes now and the fans are going full blast but my temp monitor is stuck at 32C.
It a week 31 White 2.0 macbook. I wonder if something changed in the temp. interface on a new ones or something is just not working.
Could someone with a week 31 or higher report back what your temperature monitors are doing.

How does the physical temperature feel on your MacBook case bottom to the touch and do your fans come on noticibly (audibly) when using the MacBook for more than an hour?
Perhaps the sensors changed on the latest models or some had the sensors forgotten to be plugged in. I hope an 'in production' logic board/CPU design revision didn't overlook the sensor design somehow. Apple would never reveal publicly an in production revision; only a part number change would show up a supercedure.
Perhaps many more week 30 and later owners will report in here or on the MacIntelTemp site. (I don't recall the URL)

  • GP60 Leopard-742 temp question

Hi! Was wondering what's the normal temp for this model when it's idle and when it's running a game. I exchanged my leopard-10 for this one and for me, it seems like the former has a lower temp when it was idle than this one.
Without plug: GPU:39c CPU: 41-48c (though at the moment it's staying at 48)
When it's plugged, GPU goes up to 41 while CPU goes up to 54+
Haven't gotten the chance to get a program or game in yet, but when I do I'll update.
Thanks in advance! I just wanted to make sure everything is going ok with this one because when the box arrived today, it looked pretty banged up. =(

Given how thin the notebook is, I don't see this as unreasonable.
When it's unplugged it will downclock everything anyway, which is why the temperatures are lower when compared to the unit being plugged in.
There isn't much reason to worry until the temperatures start going past 90C under a heavy load.

  • Temp question

I recently bought a new HSF, a Coolmaster 7 + to replace my stock fan.  I lapped the base, its nice and shiny, applied Arctic Silver 5  (per instructions in the sticky) a little rice sized bead along the center of the core, and my temps are higher than before.
On the Arctic Silver site, they said that you had to turn of system, and cycle it for 200 or so hours for the paste to stabalize.  Is this true, or should my temps even out ?
also, on 1 AS page, it said to place the paste on the core, and on another it said not too.........  what is the best option??
    thanks

I know that I need to get the 120 mm fan in the rear and 92 mm in the front, that will cool it off more also, but the temps just seemed a bit high to me, higher than before when I had way too much AC 5 on it, just hoping that after the 120 to 200 hour  "stabalizing time" it will go down.
I am only running at 166 right now, want to put my fsb bac k up to 200, but need to get the temps down first......

Yes, that is rather high. I'm using the same CPU and look at my temps. Are you sure the HSF is mounted properly and not turned 180 degrees?

I just installed pc-alert4 the latest version and it says that my system temps are 78C. I have chacked with 3 other programs and all of them say that the temps are about 20-25C execpt for my cpu which is 34C. How come pc-alert 4 says that my system temp is 78C? Is this right?

Use whichever program agrees with what the BIOS says.

  • 7950 TF 3GOC Temp Question

    Hey all.
Been using my 7950 TF 3G OC for a few months now and have been enjoying the hell out of it.  I even upgraded my motherboard to an MSI Z77 board and Ivy Bridge CPU.  Temperatures in my case have never been lower under load compared to my old AMD CPU.
However I was looking at my GPU idle temperature and it sits around 49c-50c and under Kombuster it gets around 80c and the fans ramp up to about 80%
Is this normal performance of the 7950?  I've had some bad MSI cards in the past but luckily the RMA folks fixed me up with replacements.  I'm just afraid my thermals are a bit higher than they should be. It's stable for my multiple hour gaming sessions unlike some previous MSI cards that have gone bad and I've never even noticed it until recently. so I  must ask:
    7950 TF 3G OC
    50C @ Idle
    82C @ 100% Load
Is this Okay? Should I do something about it?
    Thanks!

    1. about 24C
    2. Cooler Master CM Storm Scout - Ambient temp of case guessing around 30-35C - 2 mechanical HDDs and a SSD and Optical
    3. List:
    140mm intake on the front~800RPM,
    140mm exhaust on the top~900RPM,
120mm exhaust on the back top (behind cpu cooler) ~1000RPM,
CM V6GT 2x120mm in Push/pull through towards back top exhaust~1500-3000RPM,
Antec 60mm intake slot cooler below card pointing upwards at it~2000RPM,
and window mounted 120mm intake fan~1000RPM
i5-3570k CPU Idles at around 36C and tops out at around 70C at 4.4ghz 1.24V
    Sounds nice setup to me
And your 3570K's temp also looks normal  but your 7950'e temp is not quite normal ... at idle it should be under 40c.
Btw have you try to run your PC with side panel leave to open? How your HD7950 temp??

  • MSI r9 270x temps question

Well i got r9 270x 2gb couple of days ago. Idle temps are around 40-43C which i consider normal but when put under stress load it instantly jumps from 42C to 72C. I mean it only takes 1 sec to jump 30C. It peaks 92C after 5 mins of stress test. while playing bf4 on 1080p res and high settings temp remains around 80-85C. Remember on high settings gpu usage is only around 85% avg.

Well not every vendor and every card has well spread thermal paste. I was lucky with my gtx770 but on user's forum people were crying it was exceeding 80C, where mine from brand new didn't exceed 72*C So thermal paste is my solution for high temps when it comes to GPUs.
