Hi,
I've just taken some videos on my Panasonic TZ20 (see spec below) in 1080 AVHDC files.  When i try to download it on to my Mac it i'm unable to, they won't transfer across, there's no error message they just don't transfer.
I'm using the following systems:-

Please keep the replies as simple as possible as i've only got limited IT knowledge and i'd really like to 'produce' some films to show the family this year!!
Many thanks,
Andy

Answer to both questions-
It's full AVCHD, not the Lite version.  As for the 'Log Transfer' section it opens up the relevant AVCHD files but how do i go about saving them on to the Hard Drive and so that i can view them in imovie ???  I'd like to be able to play them through the imovie 'slideshow' system if possible?
When i've edited them in FCE which file ending should i save them as to make them available each time on the mac??
Hope my Q & A's aren't to basic.
Thanks

  • Can any Apple software allow me to edit AVHDC (H264) natively ?

I can import AVHDC (H264) in to iMovie 08, then make changes, edits etc, but when I try to publish at 1080i or any of the hi def formats available to choose from the options list the iMac reports that 6 minutes of footage will take 100 minutes to export !!
I am doing something wrong ? I can share at 960x 540 easily enough from the share > Export movie menu, but on my TV this drop in resolution is noticeable.
Is there any Apple software (perhaps FCE) that will allow me to work directly with the AVHDC video and then export the edit file without loss of quality ?

Well, that did not work. I had my project export to quicktime at full res 1440x1080. It took a while but it worked. It played very well on the iMac.
However when I took the resulting.MOV file to my PS3 it would not even see the file.
This despite the fact that the codec is used is playable by the PS3 (i used H264).
iMovie only seems to allow export to .MOV at these high resolutions.
    I think I have three possible answers;
    1) buy Apple TV and play the full res 1440x1080 .MOV file on that.
    2) buy a mac mini just to play these files
    3) find some software that will convert the .MOV to another format that the PS3 can work with.
Can you see any fault in my logic ? will the Apple TV device play the full re .MOV file ?
Do i need to go to xetreme of a mini for this application.

  • Audio with AVHDC Files in Prelude

I notice that Adobe is working on audio support for AVHDC files in the injest window of prelude.  Does anyone have a guess about how long it might be before this update?  It would help me a lot in marking in and out points of clips I would like to ingest.
    -N

Ok, fixed mine. Go to Library/QuickTime: Remove obsolete QuickTime Components: FFusion, Xvid Delegate, 3ivX, DivX, DivX Decoder, XviD, msmpeg4v1, msmpeg4v2, AviImporter, EX_M4S2, Casio AVI Importer, AC3 Codec, Sorenson and MatroskaQT.
Maybe try one at a time starting with 3ivX
    I'm using Perian 1.2.3
    All working now.

  • How can I capture AVHDC video files from Panasonic HD video camera??

I just received a Panasonic HS300 video camera and can't copy the video files on my computer.
I see several files in the CAM_HDD camera folder on the desktop. But the only relevant files for me to copy are the JPG photos. I don't see any video files.
In the specs of the camera they write that I should have a Mac with an Intel processor. Is that the problem???
I even tried to copy the files on a PC (I succeeded) and then brought them on my computer with a USB stick. It didn't work: again, the only relevant files that I could see were the JPG, no trace of any video (but they were indeed on that USB stick!!).
How can I access those video files and use them in Final Cut Pro, or even iMovie??
I'm becoming afraid that i won't be able to use that camera unless I buy a new Mac now!!!
    thanks!

    you need this: http://www.shedworx.com/voltaichd
the native iMovie / FC AVCHD codecs are only for Intel Macs, the format is a highly compressed HD format which needs to be unpacked & converted for use.
The powerbook may not be up to editing these files. expect a slow process of exporting & working with the footage.

  • How do I transfer AVHDC movie files from my Hyperdrive Colorspace device in

Is anyone familiar with the HyperDrive Colorspace device? It is a proven best for storage of digital photos and the people at Hyperdrive assure me that, because Hyperdrives will back up everything that's on a memory card, then I can store AVDHC files on my Hyperdrive and then transfer them to my Mac. But when I have tried to do this iMovie does not seem to recognise the files. Can anyone help (in language as non-technical as possible??!!)

  • Windows 7 has arrived...but is Premiere Pro Compatible?

We are lucky in Australia, because of our time zone Windows 7 has been available for 10 hours now.  I searched the Microsoft Windows Compatibilty Center for results of Premiere Pro CS4 and Encore and they are NOT listed.

  • FCPX not seeing video track of rewrapped MTS files

I accidentally formatted an SD card containing AVHDC files that I needed, so I used a data rescue program to rescue the MTS files. Getting them into FCPX has been very trying. I used Smart Converter to "rewrap" the files as .mov, and Quicktime can read both audio and video, but for several of the files, FCPX only imports the audio track. I tried several different conversion programs, and even used a program to create an archive directly from the MTS files, but FCPX is refusing to see the video track on several important clips. Since Quicktime can read the video, I know it's there, but how can I get FCPX to see it? Thanks in advance for any help, I have been ripping my hair out over this one...

The fewer times video is "stepped on" the better so, I do want it to leave the original video alone if at all possible. Audio... don't really care. Most 44.1/128kbps stuff is good enough for me (partial hearing loss...) but, I am meticulous, so all my audio is at least 48kHz 24 bit AIFF for production. FCPX does quite well with AAC, but obviously it should be analyzed and fixed on import... it is not an editing format. *My* camcorder exports AVC/AAC audio. AAC is usually an MPEG-4 Audio format and pretty much the current standard for AVCHD video.
I have never seen SC Pro change the frame rate. However, I do know several consumer grade camcorders actually "lie" about their frame rates. Everything is shot at 59.94 and "interpolated" to the "advertised" optional framerates of 24 or 30 (technically: 23.98 / 29.97 p) if those options are selected by the camcorder user. If the video is 1080 -- it's 60i -- it doesn't matter what framerate you think you set (gotta read the fine print on these cameras!) 720 is actually 60p. SD is 60i interpolated down to (usually) 30i (and some cameras have the option of 30p.) So, Smart Converter must be seeing the original h.264/AVC video in it's native format when passing it through as 59.94 interlaced. That is not a bad thing. However, in FCPX, a 1080 project should be manually set up for 29.97p and have the 1080/60i media conformed to the 30p framerate.
PS - I've actually seen perceptible color changes/loss of dynamic range after using ClipWrap (it was trying to do a transcode...) so, not convinced. Quicktime 7 Pro is the best app to use IF it can open and play the original video. Every conceivable/available export option (depending on system installed codecs) is available, so ProRes + Apple Lossless (AIFF) audio conversion and considerably less trouble to use (and 20 bucks cheaper) than Compressor. Unfortunately, it is no longer included with the OS and part of the FCP toolbox [free "Pro" activation when installing FCP Studio — which is too bad].  The best scenario is having FCPX import/ingest the original video without the use of a extra or third party app. That is, however, not really an option for the OP.

  • How do I export 16:9 to 4:3

    Hi guys,
I've edited an HD movie and need to project it using a 4:3 projector. I'm looking to keep the 16:9 ratio with bars on top and bottom (I believe this is called letterbox).
The Sequence is 1440 x 1080 Apple Intermediate Codec
I thought I figured it out but I get a 4:3 that is squished. I am using Final Cut Express 4.
    Thanks in advance,
    Bob

    Tom Wolsky wrote:
Edit your HD sequence. Then change the setup to DV 4:3. Make a new sequence and place the HD sequence inside the DV sequence. Render it and export as needed.
Just the answer I was looking for also, except my video was AVHDC 16:9, but your solution worked just as well.
I'll add a question here on the same topic rather than start a new thread. I converted the original file from the camera (Sony DCR-SR68) using Mpeg Streamclip to an AIC. I've done quite a few trial and errors with different settings (not all of them) but AIC gives me the best conversion and retains the original dimensions.
I then set FCE Easy Setup to AIC AVCHD 1440x1080i to import. (Log and transfer or capture won't work, I have to copy the files off of the camera and convert)
When I imported into FCE I got an error message stating that the video was not optimized for editing in FCE. It still worked and I was able to edit the video although I had to render it when necessary.
Am I using the correct conversion with MPEG Streamclip, using an incorrect setup in FCE, or can I safely dismiss it and continue

  • Audio slips out of sync

Importing straight from my .mts or running through media encoder first (to .mxf), either way, the audio always slips out of sync. I'm testing Premiere CC currently to see if it will meet my needs, but I have little confidence it will with an issue like this. If other programs I'm testing (Vegas, Lightworks, and Edius) correctly detect my video/audio settings, why should Adobe be the exception?
The file is .mts from a Panasonic GH1, shot at 1080p 24 (23.976). This is correctly detected according to the sequence editor properties panel (although not as AVHDC). Changing to AVCHD does nothing to alleviate the problem, however.

First off, yes, I've tried importing the way described in the link(s). I've played with this endlessly it seems. I do have a workaround and can get my audio to sync, but it's very manual and time consuming if done on a large scale. I must unlink the audio (actually I'm usually working with a separately recorded audio file), and finagle the time/length/play speed.
What version of Premiere Pro? Include the minor version number (e.g., Premiere Pro CS5.5 with the 5.5.2 update).
Latest CC version 7.2.2 (at least it's the latest according to the CC downloader)
Have you installed the recent updates? (If not, you should. They fix a lot of problems.)
    See above
What operating system? This should include specific minor version numbers, like "Mac OSX v10.6.8"---not just "Mac".
    Win 8.1 64bit
What kind(s) of source footage? When telling about your source footage, tell us about the codecs, not just the container types. For example, "H.264 in a .mov container", not just "QuickTime".
AVCHD .mts file from a Panasonic GH1 (both from a single file, minus the whole folder structure, and from one copied the "approved" AVCHD way from within the original unchanged folder structure)
If you are getting error message(s), what is the full text of the error message(s)?
    None
What were you doing when the problem occurred?
    Nothing special
    Has this ever worked before?
Not from what I can tell (again, I'm trialing the software here)
What other software are you running?
Web browser sometimes, but same issue when nothing else is running
Do you have any third-party effects or codecs installed?
Well, yes, on my machine of course, but nothing I've put into Premiere
Tell us about your computer hardware. Be especially certain to tell us about third-party I/O hardware (e.g., AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic, MOTU).
    Core 2 Duo (I know, I know . . .), 8gb memory, NVidia GeForce GT 520 graphics card
Are you using Mercury Playback Engine GPU Acceleration?
    Yes
Does the problem only happen with your final output, with previews, or both?
Everything, even before actually importing and simply viewing in the source monitor
Thanks for any attempts to help.

  • AVCHD camcorders from sony and panasonic

Is there any software right now that supports this format? The video is compressed in mpeg-4 avc/h.264 and the file extension is .m2ts. Will apple release a program that supports this formats?

still no support...ok, thanks for the confirm.
Is there someway to play/export .m2ts in windows? I have Sony AVHDC viewer software for windows, but it only reads from AVHDC discs..not the hard drive.
Yes, If I was doin it, i would capture the footage with FCP. But in this particular instance, the .m2ts are being supplied by the client. In other instances, he supplied .m2t files, which I handled with mpegstreamclip fine. but these .m2ts files are trickier.
