Avi & error -50

What does error "-50" mean? In layman's terms, that is. I see that it has something to do with a user parameter list, but I don't know what that means. My problem is in trying to open an "avi" file. The file's icon is clearly visible: it's the regular QuickTime icon bearing the notation "avi." But when I double-click on it, I get only a dialog box saying that the file could not open because of a "-50" error. I drop the icon on the DivX Convertor v. 6 application, and I get the same error code.
The file is a movie originally recorded by a Microsoft machine. I saw the original work just fine on a different Microsoft machine, and I'm trying to get it to work here.
Any ideas?

As you have found there are problems with playing some avi/divx files in QT 7. The divx folks have apparently solved the problem and the newest version is included in Toast 7. If you don't want to buy that $100 program you may not be able to view those files in QT until someone else releases a decompressor that works with with QT 7. Until then you may be able to view them using this alternative freeware viewer: VLC

  • Acrobat 7 Pro Avi error

One of my work computers is running Acrobat 7 pro and has all the current updates. Whenever I attempt to view an .AVI that is imbedded in a PDF file the program crashes. I can view the .AVI files in windows media player, however once the clips are in a PDF I am unable to view them. Also I am unable to upload .AVI. My other work computer is running Acrobat 8.0 and can load .AVI as well as view them in PDFs. My question is an old one: is the problem the hardware or, the software. Is there a known problem with Acrobat and embedded .AVIs? Or is my problem with the computer?
I am unsure of the specifics of the hardware.
Both computers are running windows XP.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Once you use Designer, you can no longer use Acrobat for anything other than filling out a form. You would have to do any combining in Designer.

  • MAC & PC Video conversion MOV to AVI error

    Hello
i have a big problem and hope someone can help me:
I have to convert around 16 (1h) clips from .mov to avi.
Im currently working on a mac but my client only uses pc and he had problems with .mov files. thats why im tryng to reconvert to .avi which is more compatible with PC.
First I used compressor´s DV pal anamorphic (16:9) preset which i then reconfigured using the inspector to .avi as output format, then in adjustmenst i choose DV pal -best-16:9-48000-Stereo. I saved this as a preset and then applied to all my 1hour clips.
I left them all night converting but next morning as i opened in pc to check the files they did not work correctly.
Can someone help me how to convert these files to PC compatible platform. is h.264 worth a solution?
thanks a lot for any suggestions
    ger

    Why avi and not wmv?
If wmv will work, get flip4mac Pro. It will do the conversion for you OR get a PC and do the conversion on it using the basic windows movie maker software.

  • After effects video avi error

    Hello,
I'm working with uncompressed avi files in AE. I'm having a very  frustrating issue, and I want to see if there was any kind of setting  within AE that I could tweak to get my videos to look correct.
The videos look fine sometimes, but usually the video looks terrible. It  appears that the frames look fine as long as there is little movement  in the scene, but once the scene changes, the video frame freezes  (almost as if it wasn't refreshing), then as the scene changes the video  "wipes" itself clean again, and then the video returns to normal.
Windows Media player and VLC both view the videos completely perfectly, however, AE does not!
    Any thoughts?

Sounds like the files are compressed in some form that doesn't store full frame info for every frame.  I've seen similar results using Quicktime Animation codec files, where the files used interval keyframes rather than storing every frame as an independent frame.
Try converting the file to a true uncompressed format (or to Quicktime Animation with keyframes set to "All") before importing to AE.

  • CS4 and huffyuv

    Hello.
I'm trying to use huffyuv lossless codec. It works for the most part but in certain video clips i get the "cant retrieve frame from something.avi" error. Always with the same clip and at the same frame. The clip itself isnt damaged (i can work with it outside of after effects). If I decompress it to regular uncompressed avi it works fine.
Any idea if its a fixable problem? I'm working with some digitally produced images with one color background which results in about a 70% decrease of the clip sizes, so it isnt just a small inconvenience.
    Thanks!

If you get the error, the clip is damaged. It may not have any impact on the visual presentation of the pixels, but the streams are damaged at that frame regardless of what you think otherwise. This can be anything from a slight TC offset to something weird with audio and metadata streams. The reason you are not having trouble with other tools, is probably that they don't care much or apply some error correction. Anyway, if you encounter such a file, converting it is your only option. HuffYUV hasn't been much updated in eons, so in terms of future-proofness it's not the best choice to archive and transfer your files anymore. You really should consider switching to QT and its CoDecs. They still support legacy stuff like Animation and PNG and JPG2000 do a pretty decent job at lossless compression. as an alternative, consider image sequences. LZW-compressed TIFFs and PNGs can be very small, if indeed there is a lot of evenly colored areas. An lest we forget: Now that AE supports OpenEXR fully, it should be a no-brainer to use that format. It's file sizes can be ridiculously small even at full 32bpc if you use B44 compression...

Also, the page of supported formats would probably answer my question ( http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/jmf/2.1.1/formats.html ) except I don't know much about video formats and that table doesn't make much sense to me. Any help or a point in the right direction is awesome. Thanks!

I have the same problem. I am new to JMF and I can not get an avi or a .mov to play. In fact, I can't find any movie file that actually does work. I am trying VERY simple code just to get this to work. Baby steps:

              player.realize();
java.awt.Component mediaViewer = player.getVisualComponent();ml is a MediaLocator from an url.

  • Read AVI Example.vi error #1074395975

I was trying to run the  Read AVI Example.vi with those avi files shipped within Vision package. But no success.
While the CompressorComparison.avi showed "Error -1074395993 occurred at IMAQ AVI Open File I/O error.", all the others stated "Error -1074395975 occurred at IMAQ AVI Read Frame   DirectX has timed out reading or writing the AVI file.  When closing an AVI file, try adding an additional delay.  When reading an AVI file, try reducing CPU and disk load."
Howerver, from windows task manager, my cpu usage never exceeded 20% and I have two in my computer.

    Dear Mr.Vivek,
    That did not help.
    I am using vision 8.6.4.
I use a webcam and capture images to avi.
Then I open the avi and check the number of frames.Up to this point ,everything works fine.
But if I want to extract a frame out of this avi,the following error comes.
"Error -1074395975 occurred at IMAQ AVI Read Frame
DirectX has timed out reading or writing the AVI file.  When closing an AVI file, try adding an additional delay.  When reading an AVI file, try reducing CPU and disk load."
I am stuck with this and can you please help me.I have attached the read avi file.
This error comes even when I use the example file in the library with the avi files provided by labview.
    Thanks and regards

  • IMAQ AVI Read Frame Trigger Error

I have an application that is creating avi clips of a process.  This application is writing frame data which is read later in another application.  It is at this point, during the reading of the data that an Error -1074396037 Trigger error is occuring.  I am using IMAQ Vision 7.0 and Labview 7.0.  Attached is an avi that was created. It consists of a total of 75 frames.  Also attached is a simplified version of the frame read part of my application.  When reading the frame data I get the error at frames 36 and 51.
I was hoping somebody could have a look and see why I am getting the error.

    Hi Terry,
I ran your program with your video and got error 1074395975 DirectX has timed out reading the avi file.  I do not think there is anything wrong with your program because I ran your program with a different avi file and it worked perfectly.  I also ran the shipping example Read AVI Example.vi with your video and got the same timeout error.
So there must be something wrong with your avi file.  Perhaps frames 36 and 51 are missing or corrupt for some reason.  Try creating the avi file again and see if you still have the same problem.  If you do, then we'll have to investigate the problem with the creation of the file.

  • IMAQ AVI read frame error

    Hello,
What does the IMAQ AVI read frame error "Trigger Time out" mean ?
    Thank you.

    Hello Vanessa,
In some applications, when a trigger occurs after several minutes or when integration takes several seconds, the timeout parameter may be too small to wait the amount of time it takes to acquire an image. If the image you request is not ready by the timeout parameter, the acquisition code generates a timeout error.
To prevent this problem, check the acquisition status and request an image only when you know one is ready. By just checking the acquisition status and not requesting an image, you could wait indefinitely for an image without receiving an error.

  • Error -36 when trying to copy AVI files from External Drive to Mac

    Hi
Hoping for some help with a problem I appreciate others have faced.
I bought a new video camera recently and have just tried to copy the AVI files from the first few videos to my mac but am getting the error code 36 that states the files cannot be read or written.
The format of the camera is MS-DOS (FAT 32) but when I tried changing it to MAC OS Extended it did something to the camera so the mac could then not recognise it when I tried to re-connect it via the USB port.
I've been able to copy the files onto my friends Windows laptop no problem so don't believe them to be corrupt.
Have also tried the dot_clean fix but this didn't work.
Could there be another reason for the error? Any help or advice would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Bummer. I'm not really doing this for speed though, just for total storage volume and constant, worry-free, no-brainer back-up. I guess RIAD in general is something I need to study up on. Would a simple mirror of one 500GB drive to another (back-up) - and do that twice - be a better, more reliable way to go?
I've used Tri-Backup3/4 for years for Backups, it's fast, automatic, reliable, works in the background if you wish...
Back-up software always seemed to have some kind of a hiccup to it, but I'll certainly look into Tri-Backup3/4. I used to Retrospect years ago, a rather fussy thing if I recall.
Now, on the Safe Mode boot - not a success BUT a different result!
I got the -36 again, but this time it was the external drive FILE that errored, not the OS-resident drive.
In other words, pre-Safe Mode the error said "...because some data in "ZillaHAL" could not be read or written." (ZillaHAL is my OS-X drive).
In Safe, it read, "...because some data in "WinXP Pro.vmem" could not be read or written."
"WinXP Pro.vmem" is the virtual machine file - which basically is a simple Mac volume (folder) containing all of the files to run my XP virtual machine.
Also, this time, a file* did manage to remain on the external drive whereas before, after the error, no file at all remained.
    * a generic icon appears, but it shows a size of 16+GBs. The actual file is 18.13GB - I did manage to shrink it down the other day (from it's previous 25GB).
Well, that's it for now. I'll be away for three days, so don't mind me if I cannot reply back for a spell.

I ended up reinstalling my hard drive to fix this. If you uninstall/reinstall flash it doesn't help. I think it is something outside of flash with the video settings but that is how I fixed it.
