AVI exports are buggy

So I've been trying to export AVIs from edited FCP sequences using Compressor 3.0.5 with very little success. The sequences are about an hour long each. When Compressor is done is gives me no error message, but you open up the completed file (which is huge) nothing plays back. Quicktime won't play it, nor will Windows Media Player, Adobe Premier, nada.
If I export only 10 minutes of the same sequence it works fine, but anything longer than that is worthless.
I'm using the Quicktime components function, with AVI selected and DVNTSC as my compression type. I am open to any suggestions as to why this isn't working. I would prefer not to do AVI but that was the format used by our Library Archives.
Thanks!

What is the codec that the other files in the library are using? Apple+I in QT should tell you.
Cinepak is probably one of the best all around codecs for AVIs. Keep in mind that the AVI format is almost 18 years old if not older.
I'm sure the logic behind the AVI choice is sound but WMV would be a much better option to consider for HD and should play just as nice in just about any application.

    Was tun?
Mit welcher Einstellung kann ich in Full HD und unkomprimiertem Audio exportieren?
    Vielen Dank

    Hi ATR,
    thank you for your advice.
I´m just testing your setup but it serves actually not completely my
    purpose.
My aim is to export one AVI format with an as good as possible
resolution to serve as a master file to be subsequently
compressed with the Soerenson Squeeze Pro to various different
    distribution formats.
I need to do it with the Soerenson Squeeze as I get the presets from my
distributors so that I can deliver different output
    to the particular distributors.
The problem is that premiere elements does not offer individualized
pixel size within the AVI export option.
I have now purchased Premiere Pro (within CC), trying to open the
    Element projects in Premiere Pro.
Unfortunately it does not work. Just the source files are imported but
not the actual movie project with the time line
so that I would have to start from scratch which is no option at all as
    I´m done with a 1h:30min tutorial.
If you have advice on the AVI export of Elements or how to import the
full project with Premiere Pro you would make me happy.
    Thanx

  • Best AVI export settings for a XDCAM EX 1080i60 35VBR FCP timeline

I've editted a couple of XDCAM EX 1080i60 35VBR timelines in Final Cut Pro. The dimensions of the source footage and timeline sequence settings are 1920 x 1080 XDCAM EX 1080i60 35VBR.
They will be used at a large conference center and the client has asked me to delivery HD AVI files.
So far, everytime I export an AVI file from either the FCP timelines, or HD Quicktime XDCAM EX 1080i60 35VBR composites that I've made from the timeline, the AVI file that results is either alot smaller than the 1920 x 1080 quicktime file and/or pixelated to some degree, and not as clean as the HD quicktime.
I have very little experience with AVI and was hoping someone could suggest appropriate export settings. As I said, the client only indicated they want AVI files, and that their equipment can display HD files.
So I'm trying to maintain the quality of the original and editted footage.
I'd like to work with the tools and export options available within FCP7 (FCS3) and quicktime, as opposed to having to purchase some AVI transcoder, but I guess I'd be open to that if I had to otherwise take a huge quality hit.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.

I'd like to work with the tools and export options available within FCP7 (FCS3) and quicktime, as opposed to having to purchase some AVI transcoder
As far as I know there are no tools/export options within FCP7 (FCS3) and/or Quicktime to do what you probably want to do (compressed HD AVI export). But if a fully uncompressed 1920x1080 AVI export is ok for you / your client then you can use Export > Quicktime Conversion, set the Format to AVI and change the Options >> Video >> Settings >> Compression type to "None" ... bear in mind that this will produce some pretty big exports file size wise (about 6-7 GB per minute).
Or instead, you can download and use MPEG Streamclip. Open your HD Quicktime XDCAM EX 1080i60 35VBR composites into MPEG Streamclip and choose File > Export to AVI ... then in the AVI Exporter window you can +choose the codec+ you need and press the "Make AVI" button (leave the settings at default, especially Frame Size which should be "unscaled"). Note that AVI is just a wrapper, not a codec. Make sure you chose an HD capable codec that your client can handle (it's unlikely that they will be able to play back any Apple XDCAM EX variant, or indeed any codec that starts with "Apple").
Or just send them an unscaled H264 test file and see how they get on with that (and you can export H264 from FCP, Compressor, Quicktime and/or MPEG Streamclip). It's scalable (handles any resolution including HD) and is pretty much universally supported delivery codec. I'd expect your client would be happy to accept it if you explain that the format will offer the quality the need.
However you proceed I'd strongly recommend you send the client a few test encodes first to have them confirm that they can indeed read / handle your encodes correctly.
    Hope it helps

  • Save as/Export area problem

    Hi to all!
When i save a file as "Flattened PNG" , the Export area is not working. FW (10.0.3.11, MacOS X 10.5.7)  saves the complete image and not just the cropped area.
But when i choose another file format (jpg) it saves just the expected area. Is this a bug or a feature? ;-)
I'm working on "Sliding Doors" buttons and the possibility to make one big image and export the parts that i need as separate images
is nicer than cropping the image before the "save as" and go back every time to make the next part.
    Regards from Germany

    Hi Jim!
Yes, i'm using CS4. Thanks, but you don't have to waste your time testing. I discovered (don't know why) the opened file
had no given format in the property inspector. I set it to JPEG-Better Quality and after that, the saved flattened png matches
the export area that i want. Strange behavior too, but now i know what i have to do.

  • In authorware .avi files are jumping (when paused) to one frame ahead on mouseover.

    Dear All,
I had prepared the CBT in a Authorware application (version 7.02) and published it.
The .avi files are playing well in my system (OS=Win XP) and same CBT file in some of the Win XP systems it is not playing well.
i,e. when the movie is playing and I click on the pause button the movie.avi is paused, but the real problem is persisting when I bring my cursor on the different navigation buttons (mouseover) then the movie is jumping to one (1) frame, and if I scroll the text samething is happening the movie is heading forward one frame ahead. But when I click on Play button the movie is playing from the place where it has been paused.
I tried to check in the Virtual Machine and the CBT is working fine, whereas in the upgraded WinXP systems the CBT is giving the problems.
I tried to resolve the problem along with System Administrator (they were saying that the Authorware Software need to give some patch files.)
Please HELP me out with the patch files I need to upload along with the CBT system.
As I tried to copy all the xtra's into the XTRA folder but still the problem persists.
Please let me know what to do.
    Thanks and Regards

There are no patches for Authorware that will change the way video plays. As far as I know there are no patches for Authorware beyond 7.0.2. You have the most current version. You could try renaming the file to .wmv which will change the extension that would be used from a7vfw32.xmo to a7wmp32.xmo. The a7vfw32 is used for avi files but a7wmp32.xmo uses the Windows Media Player in the background to run the file. If this doesn't work are you able to try different movie formats?

  • My avi videos are jumpy/shakey in Premiere Pro CS5 - can anyone help.

I have used avi video in Premiere CS4 and had no issues. Now that I have upgraded to Premiere CS5 my avi videos are shakey/jumpy before and after rendering them. What is wierd is when I nest an avi video from an old CS4 project and imort it into my CS5 project, the avi video is fine and isn't jumpy before or after rendering. I was wondering if anyone knows of a setting that needs to be set or a codec or upgrade that needs to be downloaded to fix this issue. I think its wierd that avi videos work fine in Premiere CS4 and not in CS5. My coworker and I are both editing video and he is having the same issue on his computer so I know its not just my computer. Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Exporting actionscript as avi export movie

    hi all,
i have the following issue: i am creating a digital picture
    only via actionscript, e.g.
    moveTo(171,334)
    lineTo(176,235)
    lineTo(172,225)
    etc
Displaying the swf file via swf player is fine of course but
as I want to display it in a digital photo frame I need to export
it as .avi (as the dig. photo frame can't display .swf format). the
export only creates an empty avi file :(
    Does anyone know a solution?
    - Can I export just actionscript code as avi?
    - Or can I automatically convert actionsript to single frames
    (so to a non-as movie)?
    - Or does anyone know of a digital photo frame that can
    display swf files?
    Thanks for any help!!!

The AVI export doesn't support AS. Try using a third party
tool. Google SWF to AVI and you'll find a couple.
    Good luck!

  • Corrupt avi export

    Hello everyone,
I have a 82 minute long piece that I had to export to avi (DV codec) and give to another company to finish off. The problem was that I exported the clip and discovered that of the 82 minutes, the file would only play 4:29 of the clip, even though the file is 17GB large. I tried again and the same thing happened. We finally exported a QT/DV and used Vegas to convert to avi but I still need to fix this problem. I tried taking 10 minutes worth of the video and it exported fine. I then tried a 40 minute clip and got it to run for 2:01 (8.42 GB). So I'm a little confused here and would welcome input and suggestions on my problem. Thanks!

Just a follow up on my experience with this problem. I tried exporting a FCP movie (not a self contained movie) and I loaded that clip into another computer we have here also with FCP 5.0.4 and did an avi export from that computer. Well the results were the same. A large 17GB file that only has the first 4:28 of the 82 minute video playable. This is too strange

  • LR 6.0.1 EXIF-Data are buggy after export

We export a Nikon D810-photo with Lightroom.
Here you can see it: http://bilder.uchrin.de/test/DSC_1917.jpg
    With a simple batch in php - like this (array exif_read_data ( string $filename [, string $sections [, bool $arrays [, bool $thumbnail ]]] )) -
we read out the EXIF data. here see the result: http://bilder.uchrin.de/test/simple.php
Now you can see COMPUTED.Copyright, COMPUTED.Copyright.Photographer and COMPUTED.Copyright.Editor are corrupt.
COMPUTED.Copyright: efan Uchrin, (C) by St
    COMPUTED.Copyright.Photographer: efan Uchrin
    COMPUTED.Copyright.Editor: (C) by St
In LR 5.7.1 are the EXIF-data OK.
    Is there any help?

    Stefan,
I examined the test file closely with Exiftool, and it shows all the metadata correctly.  I think the issue is another one: Lightroom CC: JPEG format tripping up other programs. Notice that many of the string-valued fields are corrupted, e.g. IFD0.ImageDescription, IFD0.Model, and IFD0.Make.  LR 6 writes JPEG metadata in a way that strictly conforms to the standards but is atypical of the common layout of metadata, tripping up other programs that aren't strictly conforming.
Which version of PHP are you using?
The end of the thread I linked to contains a workaround, using the Run Any Command plugin and Exiftool.

  • CS4 exports are 5 times slower then in CS2

    System:
    Windows 7 (64)
    AJA Bord
    8 Core System
In CS2 it was possible to make UNCOMPRESSED exports apart from the Adobe Media Encoder. In CS4 all exports seem to run thru the Media Encoder. Most of the exports work faster but I did not find a propper way to export UNCOMPRESSED files.
On the "old" system (4 Core - Windows XP) CS2 exports
    AJA Avi v210 1920x1080
...in nearly real time. The same file with the new setup takes about 5x realtime. The weird thing though h264 also needs about the same amount of time then the uncompressed files. And the problem is not the RAID connected (copying is faster the real time)
    Any Ideas?

Sadly this seems to have no affect on the exporting time. I changed the set
ting USE MAXIMUM RENDER QUALITY (ON+OFF).
Since my input and output is the same (AJA avi v210) the system should not render anything, right?
Uncompressed 8 Bit 4:2:2 Quicktime files are axported in real time. It seems like the problem is the AJA Codec on this Machine.
Again, this is Windows 7 / CS4 and AJA LHE. Maybe I'll have to contact AJA?

  • End of file error - avi exported from PPRO

    Encore 1.5
    PPro 1.5
I have a project with 16 avi files exported from PPro. Four of them caused the error. I re-exported them and one was fixed. The other three keep causing the error.
I am starting to get a little crazy trying to figure out what is going on. Seems I remember that if the audio and video duration get goofed up in PPro then Encore gets cranky.
Is there a way I can fix this other than re-editing from scratch?
    Thanks in advance.

    Mark,
Are you Exporting as DV-AVI files? If you are, and they are mux'ed (Audio & Video multiplexed into one file), try as elemental steams, i.e. Video only DV-AVI and Audio only as PCM/WAV 48KHz 16-bit (or AC3 if you're doing DD 5.1 SS). If you have tried as elemental streams, then try with mux'ed DV-AVI (both Video & Audio). Elemental streams work best for me, and there are only the extra few steps:
    Import Video (only) as Timeline
    Import Audio (only) as Asset
Drag Audio from the Project Panel to appropriate Timeline. With proper Export from PP, they WILL match up perfectly in Duration.
With mux'ed files, you just Import as Timeline and are done - if that works.
Yes, Encore does get really picky. I always Export as elemental streams and never have any issues, but some have, and a mux'ed DV-AVI works for them - why? I do not know.
I do not know if there are any limitations with PP & Encore 1.5, as I have never used them, but others here WILL know if you need to watch out for version-specific issues.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Help needed! White lines over uncompressed avi export - CS4 v4.2

    Hello,
I am having problems exporting an uncompressed avi at max bit depth in Premiere Pro CS4. Whenever I export it, I get what is below. Please look at the image to get an idea of what it looks like. The quality is there, just the white lines are annoying.
    http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/cc291/madindehead/PremierePro_export_weird.png
However, when exporting as an uncompressed avi with 8 bit bit depth, the quality is worse, but there are no white lines. I am using the UYVY codec. As you can see, the quality of the export is excellent, but it is spoiled by those lines. Does anyone know what could be causing it, and how can I fix it? I don't really want to use 8 bit depth, as the quality is nowhere near as good sadly.
    Thanks.

    I tried looking here: http://forums.adobe.com/message/2105977#2105977
Which led me to encoding the video with VirtualDub, using a lossless codec, and then re-exporting it from Premiere. However, exactly the same thing happened. I have found, that using Uncompressed Microsoft AVI, with Render at maximum depth selected and using the UYVY codec, definitely gives the best quality. If I un-tick "Render at maximum depth" the problem DOES NOT occur, however, the quality is nowhere near as good. So I think this is where the problem lies. You can see under that white layer, that the quality is there. But still no joy sadly.
I am using StaxRip to encode the files as MP4 using the x264 codec, and this gives excellent quality, for the file size. As I am using this, I obviously want the highest quality output from Premiere that I can possibly get.

  • Exports are ENTIRELY too large.

I've recorded a short (5 minute) demo, and have attempted to
"publish" it using the LOWEST settings possible. I've got all
compression turned on, BMPs at 8 bit, etc.
When I export the file, I STILL have 20 megs of video and
require 69kbps to view it. This is completely unacceptable. I could
have done better than this with full-motion video and the windows
media 9 codec in an AVI. The whole point of using Captivate was to
create training videos we could stream online.
I noticed that captivate's "backgrounds" of the slides were
being stored in BMPs, and that there was no method within captivate
for checking to see if two backgrounds were identical. I started
exporting the BMPs, converting them to JPGs, and then importing
them back into captivate, and setting them as the backgrounds.
After a lot of wasted effort, I saw that Captivate was converting
    them BACK into BMPs.
NOW I'm exporting each BMP for each slide, converting it to
JPG, importing it into the library, setting it as an "object" in
the scene, then ordering it with "send to back" to emulate the
background. Also, I'm looking for duplicate slides to delete
    duplicates.
Honestly, I'm finding that this would have been 100x easier
to have manually put together in Flash. Has anyone else run into
these problems, and found a way to actually use Captivate the way
they claim it can be used? 20 megs for 4:47 is ridiculous.
    -Javin

    > The BMP backgrounds are over 320 megs.
Sounds like these are not files that were captured by
    Captivate, hence they
    are uncompressed bitmaps.
    > After compression, that means the BMP
    > backgrounds are still 15 megs, assuming the audio/video
    aren't compressed
    > at
    > all. I can compress the BMPs to about 5 megs by making
    them JPGs.
If you imported these bitmaps, then - for your next project,
    not this one
:-) - I'd suggest some quick tests to the effect of:-
1 - try loss-less compression on the bitmaps. RLE is pretty
    good. But most
likely if this makes no sense to you then you may not have
    the tools to try
    this ... :-/
2 - Try saving your bitmaps as PNG instead of BMP. By
    default, no
compression of any sort is applied to bitmaps, but PNG should
    be able to
save as a similar size to an RLE-compressed bitmap.
3 - And try Gif format files too.
Lastly - should have asked this first - what exactly are your
    bitmaps? If
they are fairly flat colours - like screen grabs, where there
    are large
elements of the same colour - then the above should be
    effective. If, on the
other hand, they are photographic images - people, trees,
    flowers where
there is a lot of colour and detail - then maybe the above
    won't help.
