AVI File Captured in Premiere Elements 8 Only Plays First Few Minutes

Hello folks,
I'm totally new to this. My problem: I've recently installed Premiere Elements 8 and used it to capture some mini DV video tapes (via firewire), without any significant problems (other than a few freezes). Now I've tried to capture some VHSC tapes via my TV card (Avermedia H727). The capture process went well (except that the preview screen was just a fuzzy mess!) but I had to plug the audio inputs into my sound card (onboard) rather than the TV card.
The caputred files are about 6 + Gb for a 30 minute tape but when playing the captured video back in PrE8 only the first few minutes is available (the length of playback seems to vary unpredictably (1 tape allowed 3 minutes of playback, another a bit less).   The full avi files can be played back in Roxio or Windows Media Player etc but not PrE8.
Interestingly, videos captured from VHSC via the same TV card in Roxio 2010 Pro will play back correctly and fully in PrE8.   I had to switch audio inputs to the TV card (rather than the soundcard) for the audio to be captured with Roxio.
My son has tried to help me with this (having some experience on PrE2) but he's also drawn a blank with this.
I'd be very grateful for any help that you might be able to give as I've not found anything in FAQ although it's not easy to succintly define my search for this problem.

My PC has 2 HDDs and both are of the “green” variety. Both are partitioned (2 partitions on each HDD) with operating systems on the first partition (Windows 7 Pro 64 bit on one and Windows XP Pro -32 bit on the other, the operating systems are on different physical drives).
The tips relating to PrPro are hard to follow as they are quite technical and I’m not even sure which ones also relate to PrE8.   It would take me an age to try to wade through this lot.
My point is that my current setup (for all its imperfections) will capture video (via the TV card) using PrE8 as the capture software. The setup must be adequate for this task as the complete avi file is played back correctly on Roxio and Windows Media Player but PrE8 fails to recognise any video after the first 3 minutes (approx).
If I capture to PrE8 using a firewire connection from my mini DV video camera then the capture proceeds normally (apart from odd freezes) and the captured video is all playable in PrE8.
When capturing using the mini DV camera, I select "DV camcorder" in the “Get Media” menu. However, this only supports Firewire or USB sources.   When capturing from the VHSC tapes via the TV card I have to select “Webcam or WDM Device” as the media source (I’m not convinced that this is the most suitable capture mode but it’s the only one I can find that doesn’t look for either a firewire or USB device.
It seems as though PrE8 must be putting some code onto the captured video that prevents more of it from playing back because avi files recorded on Roxio will playback fully.   I've tried to copy the PrE8 avi files into a different folder (devoid of any PrE8 project files) and then renaming the file before importing into PrE8 but still only the first few minutes will play.   My thinking here was that perhaps one of the other associated project files that PrE8 creates might be the source of the corrupt info.

Only the first few minutes of songs will play

I have a 4th gen iPod Nano and when I try to play music only the first few minutes of each song will play. Each song cuts off at the same point each time and this ranges from about 2:30 to around 6:20 from the tracks I have tested. Some of them at least are currently in 256kbit aac although I have tried resyncing them with the option to convert higher bitrate tracks to 128kbit aac. This has no effect on the "stopping" point for each track. The music plays fine on iPhone 4, 5 and in iTunes. I have restored the ipod to factory settings and tried resyncing but to no avail.
Anyone have any suggestions?
I am running OS X 10.8 with iTunes 11.

a security idea for improvement: A password request before switching the phone off would give a user the chance of finding the phone within the first few minutes of it being stolen, since the thief wouldn't be able to turn the phone off.

Jim, wanted to let you know it worked. I deleted the entire album since it was an album only (26 minutes long) song, then I went to the home icon of iTunes store, clicked on purchased and saw previous purchases and bam, I downloaded the album again and it now works!!! Thanks..

AVI files imported to Premiere Elements 10 are blank. Files can be played using Windows Media.

I am trying to import AVI files to Premiere Elements 10 but they are blank. They show the proper time length for the file but I get no video or audio. When I attempt to import the files directly from my Flip (one of the import options) the files are not even discoverable. I am using Windows XP. Any suggestions?

My wife has a Flip camera, and I do not believe that AVI is what her camera uses (just checked... her Flip saves as .MP4)

How to import .AVI files into Adobe Premiere Elements 12?

I can play videos in Adobe Organizer but cannot import into Premiere Elements due to a missing codec or unsupported file type.

Do not download a codec pack until you Google to find out if it contains malware... and I am NOT saying the link in reply #1 contains malware, only that SOME codec packs can cause huge problems

Download whole podcast but only play a few minutes

Every week a download a show called "Good news week" (it is an Australia show), which is a 50 min show. But is the past two weeks when I download the 87.2mb podcast (which is usally for a 50min show)Only 10 minutes will play, I have watched the download and it does download the whole show but I can't watch the whole show.
Is it the podcast or my Itunes? I love this show it is my comedy releif for the week.

Hey I have the exact problem too, it IS a problem with the podcast not your computer/ itunes, as it has happened with ep 28 as well. I think that they are doing this on purpose to make people watch the show on tv . they used to have good news week on tv shows but no body downloaded so they took it offline. Now in an effort to make more money off advertisers I think they are only giving the first 10 minuts or so (just the intro's) notice how it ends at the start of the first ad break?
Hopefully they will bring back full episodes because now that the chasers have ended this is my only comedy vodcast

External SWF only plays first few frames then loops

Help! I've been working on this for the past few weeks. Have read everything I can read. Have tried everything I that has been posted. And still I can seem to get a simple external swf to load and play using AS3. I have tried numerous ways with the same results everytime. Here are a few of the scripts I have tried. What I would like to have happen is to have one main timeline where I load sequentially external SWF files - there is no interaction required - it is a presentation that includes video and other Flash SWF files that I have created. Now I just want them all in one flash file. I had no problems with AS2 doing this, but I'm sure having fits with AS3! please HELP - my deadline is this week and I'm not even close to being ready. THANKS!

Itunes only plays first few seconds of a song...

I have a mac mini that I purchased last summer and have recently been having itunes problems. I have had no internet at home for a couple months but I believe itunes was up to date when I last had online access. I think I upgraded to Yosemite? But honestly can't remember. I am on my work computer and far from home.
So starting a couple of weeks ago, when playing certain albums in itunes, it would play the first 5-10 seconds of a song and then jump to another song on that album. I could switch albums and it would play fine. Sometimes. But the problem has worsened and now I cannot play anything in itunes without this happening. Very frustration to say the least. I have tried restarting itunes and restarting the machine with and that has not helped. Maybe a reinstall of itunes? Sounds like that will need internet access to get re-updated and such? Any help here is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hmmmm. I see a lot of questions and issues with iTunes in this here forum but not many answers and solutions to those problems. Seems Apple has been taking some missteps lately and forgetting a big part of what got them to where they are: their stuff worked with ease. Seems so many more stumbling steps these days.

HT5557 audiobook only plays first minute

I have Windows 8 and the newest version of Itunes. I have recently purchased audiobooks from Itunes and on both my ipod and iphone, only the first few minutes plays. I've purchased audiobooks before and never had a problem. I've searched this problem and tried suggestions. I changed to a music file; get info>options>media kind. This worked for 2 of the 4 audiobooks. But the other 2 will not work regardless of what I do. Frankly I'm tired of messing with this, but I paid for these and should not have this much trouble listening to them. Can anyone help?

This happened to all of my audiobooks after switching to a new comuter. Find your receipt email or access your account and you will see a 'report a problem button' press this for one of them and up will pop a text box - set out which are faulty and how and ask for them to be redownloaded for you. I had around 20 audiobooks doing excatly this and within a day or two of reporting the problem and identifying all affected books they were all waiting for me to download again wen I next accesed Itunes home page. Worked a treat. No quibble. Hope helps. . . .

Premiere elements cannot play my avi file

I have an avi file, size 13.9 MB, which plays perfectly, when I click on it with pathfinder.
If I import it into PE, it asks me, "Fix quality problems in clips. Yes or No".
No matter what I do, there is no synchro between picture and sound, when I play it.
Anybody knows what I can do??

-Insignia camera uses H.264 to either AVI or MOV... so use the MOV wrapper
Xvid/Divx are output files, not meant to be edited (variations of the MPEG4 codec, often used for Internet streaming video) so, they mostly do NOT edit well (if at all) in any flavor of Premiere, even if wrapped inside an AVI container

AVI files in Adobe Premiere? (can't import)

Hi,
I've just tried to import a bunch if .avi files into Adobe Premiere (OSX) but they all failed due to missing codec. Is there a way around this? I've looked at some other threads but don't understand it all and i'm on a bit of a deadline.
I've currently installing it on my windows box as i know OSX doesn't play nice with avi anyway, is it likely to work?
The avi files have multiple streams -2 camera angles are recorded, when they are loaded both show and play in sync so i'm worrying about converting to another format.

And When i double click the video files in the editing program, another window pops up named: Source:Sequence 01. But the window Program:Sequence 01 Has a Red screen on it! But the file clearly works so i have no idea what to do.

My guess is that these are 'Named User' licenses and not Concurrent licenses. That just means that every license has a single user and that users is expected to register. Did they just give you one DVD with the program and then 30 license keys? If so there is probably no way you will get around the registration process.

What exactly is your problem? Is it, (a) your Mac doesn't read your external disk, or, (b) you can't retrieve your videos, or, (c) you can't play them, or, (d) you were able to play them at one point, but not any more.
What version of Mac OS X are you using, what app are you trying to play your videos with, what happens when you do, and what error messages, if any, do you get?
