Thanks ahead, Jonathan.

I am trying to export my project to an avi file, but its only exporting the audio, help? I can open the avi file but there is not video. I am choosing uncompressed avi, 1080x720 frame rate 29.97, what can i do?

The above was a quote and AME is not necessary.  From the Timeline selected Ctrl-M brings up the Export window.  There select "AVI" and under Video Codec below select "None"

  • Import DV AVI Files with 5.1 Audio

To my surprise, Encore would not import DV AVI files from Premiere with 5.1 Audio. I much prefer to do my transcoding in Encore rather than in Premiere so I don't have to guess how much disk space will remain after menus and other content. Also, I think Encore transcoding is more efficient than Premiere.
Yet, cheaper and less sophisticated applications such as Nerovision will import DV AVI files with 5.1 audio, and give you 5.1 DVD's.
Which leads to another question, why does a cheaper application just give you the Dolby Digital 5.1 Audio, while a fee has to be paid to Surcode to get it in the Adobe applications?

You cannot create a 5.1 Dolby Digital file in Encore, so the answer is an emphatic "YES" to the planning & budgeting.
You really should be doing this anyway, as it is a real eye opener. There are some superb Excel spreadsheet bit budgeting tools, as well as a simple enough manual method. It should be detailed in the FAQ.
As far as DTS goes, you'll need an encoder again. The only plugin version I am aware of is for Steinberg's Nuendo & Cubase systems, but both DTS and SurCode make them.
The SurCode DTS-DVD encoder is dated now - 5 years or so - and the Nuendo one sounds better. Having said that, the DTS-PSE sounds even better, as well as having DTS-ES and DTS 96/24 capability (both of which are DVD Legal).
Even better are the soon-to-be-released DTS-HD SAS & MAS encoders.
These are primarily for the Blue-ish type discs, but also cater for so-called "legacy" encoding as well, and the detail is even better than the DTS-PSE version. You can hear the difference in the detail where the top end sounds more natural & open. Whatever version you get will make Dobly Dirgital sound dull & muddy by comparison.
Quality can be improved by feeding the encoder with 24 bit audio too - this also applies to Dolby Digital.
Bitrates for DTS are either 754 kb/sec or 1509 kb/sec, and come in 2 flavours:
Compact (.cpt) and Padded (.dts) - either can use the lower bitrate, and there is no difference in audio quality between the CPT and DTS flavours. I recommend using the higher bitrate personally.
Both types are supported in Passthrough mode in Encore - that is to say they import, and multiplex correctly but cannot be previewed.
    Hope this helps.

  • AVI file shows just white screen with audio, help

I created a video on an old sony vaio, before i came to my senses and bought a mac. I have got the video off of the old laptop, but it won't play on quicktime now. I have tried some converters and what not, but it still won't play on my mac at all. does anyone know any ways that seem to work converting AVI files or anything? i really want to play this video.

Open the avi (even though it doesn't show video) and then use "Show MovieInfo" in the Windows menu of QT Player. That will tell you what codec was used in making the video. If it was an Indeo compressor you will not be able to view it in OS X unless you can run the Classic environment. Indeo codecs for Classic
If they are not Indeo videos you may be able to play them in OS X by iinstalling the decompressors from these sites:

  • When I add media from my dLink surveillance camera, the avi files always land in audio instead of the video area. Why, and how can I get them to land as visual?

I am trying to edit some of the surveillance videos taken from our dLink camera of the dogs playing when we are not home, but when I import the .avi files, it always just goes to the audio portion (of Premiere Elements 11) and nothing shows up as video. What am I doing wrong? Please know, I am completely new at this program, since I bought it for the purpose of playing with my dLink home camera videos and haven't been able to do a single thing with them as of yet due to how they are importing. I did "get media" from my Bloggie camera to see if that worked, and it did come across as a video and not just audio, so I am not sure why the other isn't working.

ATR, just to make sure you understand me, all my video clips in my folders appear as the first frame of the video clip when I view my folders as (small, medium, large)icons instead of lists, when saved as .avi files but when saved as .mp4 files, those icons display as a graphic icon of filmstrip with a musical note on it. I do have various other methods to open with (quick time, windows media, winamp or real player) but prefer real player because I like it's quick and easy trimmer that comes along with it, since so many of my videos are just pet antics where you need to clip off the boring beginning and ends of the video.
I did go on a few of the icons and right clicked, Open With, and tried quick time and also Windows Media and it did nothing as far as how the file was saved for display, and they opened the same no matter which player I used...the actual video opens and plays right at it's first frame... but it's the way it is visually displayed in STORAGE that bugs me because it isn't immediately apparent to me what it is a video of (weddings, outside the house, pet antics)... it makes me have to actually title things and read titles where before I let it just be dates because I had the visual of that first frame as a reference. Obviously, this is a problem for unedited videos only, as anything I actually work with, I do give a title along with the date of the video.
I also just realized this seems to be the way ALL videos that are wrapped in .mp4 are displayed, as my bloggie camera's videos appear the same way. Now I know why! My other videos display as .avi's so I see the frame. Puzzle solved. Guess I'll just have to learn to live with it, as it seems to be how things display with the various formats.
Now I need to watch some tutorials to learn how this Premiere program works! It's all new to me, since this is the first time I've been able load any of my videos onto it. I haven't even been able to figure out how to trim on it yet!

  • Imported AVI files show the image doubled

    hi,
I am using Premier Elements 7 and when I import a recorded AVI file the video portion shows up twice.  If I play the video in media player, or nero recorded content is single. It only shows doubled in Premier Elements 7.
I have imported the image from several different sources and machines all with the same results.
    Any ideas why?

hi I have the screen shot you asked.    As for the rest of it, This is part of a security system (CTG Software) that we have had for 10 locations and over 3 years.  I periodically have to attach to videos together for the legal purposed because one camera has audio and the other does not.   Nothing has changed with this system in the 3 years we have had it.  This problem did not start until about a month ago when I bought version 7.  I did an upgrade from Version 3....
I did finally get it to work by converting the image to a different format. (used Nero to make it digital and imported that and it looked fine)  Fortuneately it was a short video.  Would like to figure out why PRE is doing this with this version.  Its a lot of extra steps to do if I have a larger video.
Yes the Image is doubled in the timeline as well.

  • My imported AVI file doesn't play audio in Premiere Pro CS5 nor Encore CS5

    Hi there,
I've been trying to find a solution for my "audio" problem for a few days now, but no luck...
First of all I'd like to mention that I work on a Mac.
I have an AVI file that plays perfectly fine in Quicktime (audio and video).
However, when I import it in Encore or Premiere, it shows the video but there's no audio.
I understand this probably has something to do with codecs? But I really have no clue what I can do about it.
I was working in Encore at first, cause I don't really need any editing, just a dvd I'd like to burn. Since the audio didn't work there I've tried importing in Premiere. Same problem of course. Then I tried to seperate the audio and video and transfered it into Soundbooth. Didn't change anything.
Another problem that occurred in Encore was some errors with gaps. I have about 10 AVI files that I put on the same timeline. Any advice on what I can do about that?
I'm kinda new in all of these things, so any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi again,
I've downloaded mediainspector and got the following results:
I also checked the timeline after importing a video and there is indeed a red line over the timeline in Premiere, not in Encore:
    Screenshot timeline Encore:
    Screenshot timeline Premiere:
My project settings in Encore: I took the standard for a dvd Pal widescreen:
And in Premiere I've tried the 4 different standard settings for DV PAL. All the same result with the red line.
I've read the articles about the codecs, but I really could use some help what I can do next. Should I convert it to an MPEG2 for dvd file for example? Which converter (free?) is good for Mac?
Or is there something else I need to do?
I understand how the programs work but I really don't know so much technical stuff about sound and video.
Oh, and just for your information: I imported an MP3 file also in the project, to play at the main menu, and that one is playing just fine, no problems there.
Thanks again for all the help! I really appreciate it.

  • .avi files and 'ms' format audio

    Hi Folks,
I have QuickTime 7 Pro and a .avi file I was sent (actually downloaded on FTP). I also have a host of other video players (MPlayer OS X 2, VLC, RealPlayer 10) All of them can play the .avi file but I get no audio. If I choose "Show movie properties" in QuickTime it lists the audio as 'ms' format. Is there any way to get QuickTime, or any other video player, to play the sound on this file?
Hope someone can help me with this.
    Cheers,
    Grant
    G4 Dual 1.25Ghz   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

any suggestions for the same problem but for OS X (10.3.9)?
You'll have to find out what codec was used for the movies you want to view to determine what you need. Note that not all codecs for the various .avi movies are available for QuickTime.
If you want to try "hit and miss", you can try the codecs at http://www.divx.com/ and http://www.3ivx.com/ and see if one of them will work for you. If you just want to play the movie any way you can, you can also give this player a try:

  • Avi files showing as black

Hello, recently some avi files started showing as black in AE. The same is the case when rendering a project containing these files.
Even if I look at my old projects and such, some of the avi videos display as black there also, so what worked before doesn't now.
The specific avi format, that doesn't show properly, should be OpenDML Avi 2.0. All other video formats work as they always did.
I'm guessing that some file or codec got deleted, but outside of AE the files play without any problem.
Is there some way to resolve this? I've already tried reinstaling AE, resetting the preferences..
I'm using Windows 7 and CS6.. not sure what else is relevant.
I'll be grateful for any help.

Oh, alright, sorry. The codec is Motion JPEG.
I don't recall changing anything before this happened. I did probably install some games. Not sure if that would cause something this specific.
I've just tried uninstalling all third party codecs and nothing's changed. I've tried reinstalling them after that and nothing's changed again.
I don't know how to reinstall the Motion JPEG codec as mentioned by Rick Gerard, so I didn't do that part.

  • Cannot import .avi files with 5.1 audio created in Premiere 2.0

Using Encore 2.0 when I attempt to import an .avi file I exported from Prem1ere 2.0 which was exported with 5.1 audio, I get an error message - "More that two audio channels for this type of encoding is not supported". Does Encore 2.0 not support 5.1 audio?

The SurCode plugin for Premiere really does represent amazing value for money. Dolby Digital 5.1 is a mandatory format for DVD-Video as well, meaning all players are required to be capable of decoding it. You will also be able to preview the encoded stream in Encore.
When using DTS, support is optional, which means that a DTS stream cannot be stream 1 in any title.
Also, support for DTS in Encore is in "passthrough" mode, IE "as is" and will not be audible in preview. Discs will burn true though.

  • Digital AV adapter for iphone 4s doesnt show video only audio now since os upgrade

digital av cable no longer works on 1 phone 4s, the os was upgraded to 6.01, i do get audio but no video.

The current iOS is obviously seeing your Car as a TV.  I would contact the manufacturer and see if your vehicle needs any update, or if they recommend changing any certain settings to be compatible with your vehicle so the iPhone is not seeing it as a TV.  Each vehicle is 100% different so the manufacturer would be the best one to solve this issue for you.  Alternately, if you have an aux input, buy a 3.5mm audio cable and plug your iPhone to the car using the headphones jack.  This will obviously limit the connection to only audio.

  • AVI Files on QuickTime No Audio

I'm not a mac expert so any explanations in pain English would help. I'm having the same problems as a lot of people since the quicktime update. I have done everything I have repaired permissions restarted the computer updated Divx nothing seems to work. My AVI movies work fine in the Divx movie player but I cant view on the TV as easily as I could with QuickTime ( which I have updated to QuickTime pro thinking it would solve the problem). It seems to me that divx is no longer connected to my QuickTime Player. How do I link them up so I can view my AVI files through QuickTime? I hope this makes sense as I don't know all the technical jargon.

Pain English , ok - ouch!, whack! bang! slap! punch! sock! Just like the old Batman episodes.
Drag the DivX component in the QT folder to the desktop. Download and install Perian 1.1. If you have other 3rd party codecs like 3ivX and XVid, drag them out to the desktop too. Reboot and try your clip.
Pro vs. not-Pro is all to do with editing and has no impact on playback.

  • Mac Pro DVD player not showing picture, only audio

When playing a DVD, my DVD player on Mac Book Pro does not show the picture, you only hear the audio. Any ideas?

This started yesterday for me too--audio works fine, but picture is gone. I tried 4 different DVDs to be sure, and all of them have no picture. The screen is completely black. I guess it's time to go to the Genius Bar...

  • AVI files showing up Black in QT

I hoped to use QuickTime Pro to convert some AVIs over from 720 x 544 Xvid compressed files over to AVI DV PAL files, as I see those specifications listed under Quick Time Pro's file and codecs supported.
However, I can't seem to play these AVIs in QuickTime. The Xvid compressed file is of the correct length, but no video or audio. I have a version of this file in H264, and I get audio, but again, no video. Just a black screen.
Anyone know why I'm getting black screens? I've downloaded the codecs... Can't seem to get QT to play the darned movies (much less even start trying to convert them!)
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well, the problem is that I'm running Windows XP, so Perian isn't going to help. I see that Xvid isn't supported by QTPro for XP (it is supported by the Xvid codec on mac... they're working on an XP fix for QT Pro). However, it does the same thing when I use AVIs that are compressed with H264... which seems absolutely wrong since that IS a codec that is supposed to be supported...
Any ideas for a Windows user?
