AVI files aren't displaying video in Premiere cs5, audio only.

I've tried encoding/converting the like another user suggested in this thread
Download and install VLC.
In the folder containing your AVI files, create a new text document called "avi2mp4.bat" (without the quote marks). Be sure it has the .BAT extension; you'll have to remove the .TXT extension that is added by default.
Paste the following into the batch file and save it:@ECHO OFF for %%a in (*.avi) do "C:\Program Files (x86)\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc" -I dummy "%%a" --sout=#:file{dst="%%~na".mp4} vlc://quit
To run the batch, simply double-click it, or you can drag and drop AVI files onto it, and they will be rewrapped as MP4s with the same filename as the original. If you use the drag and drop approach, you can save this file anywhere on your hard drive, and any files dropped onto it will be converted and placed in the same folder as the original.
That's it. The MP4s will import correctly into Premiere, and you won't be doing any transcoding."
but all i get is this

  • WMV3Server plays avi files containing WMV3/9 video and MP3 audio

    WMV3Server
To play avi files with WMV3/9 video and MP3 audio encoding on Mac OS X as of 2005-01-24 you will need:
Mac OS X 10.2 or later
    WMV3Server
Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X
An .avi file containing WMV3 video and MP3 audio.
    Instructions:
Launch the WMV3Server java application and click the "Open" button.
A standard open-dialog window appears. Either navigate to the avi video file or drag the file into the open window to have the window switch to the folder that contains the avi video file. Select the file and click the "Open" button or press return on the keyboard. The open-dialog window should close.
Next, click the "Start" button. The movie will be cached and WMV3Server will display "Server Started"
Open Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X. Pull down the "File" menu on the menu bar at the top of the screen and select "Open URL..." Enter the following address:
    mmst://localhost:1755/
Windows Media Player should connect, buffer and play.
The download page (in Japanese) for WMV3Server is here:
    http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Bay/8128/
    The download link is:
    http://www.geocities.com/Tokyo/Bay/8128/WMV3Server-0.4.zip

Update: By playing around with the settings in the Default Applications preference pane (a free download) I somehow got the files to open automatically in QuickTime Player (with Flip4Mac WMV 2.0.1 installed) and they now play (instead of showing white video as they had previously. Unfortunately, I don't recall what I changed.
Here's a sample file (apparently a beer commercial.):

  • MSE : "Files needed to display video are not installed..."

I installed the MSI DigiVox ATSC w QAM USB stick. Live TV setup and channel scanning worked fine. But then when I try to use the tuner in Windows Media Center, and play live TV, I get stuttering video and audio for a few moments before this message is displayed:
"Files needed to display video are not installed or not working correctly. Please restart Windows Media Center or restart the computer." I have of course tried both.
WMC plays back movie files from my HDD without any problems.
One symptom is when I go through guided setup, and choose 5.1, the Test button does not result in any audio output. Even though WMC's system sounds and file playback audio works fine.
I have Win 7 64 bit, all updates. Intel i5 2500K integrated video (HD Graphics 3000) - latest drivers installed. Connecting via HDMI.
I tried the exact same tuner on a Shuttle based x86 Win7 Ultimate 32-bit system, with a discrete ATI video cards, and everything worked fine.
    1) Is there a problem with the 64-bit drivers, or
    2) Is there a problem with MSI Digi Vox and Intel HD 3000 graphics?
    3) Something else?
    Thanks!

If I connect the HTPC directly to my Samsung DLP, it works fine.
There must be a problem with the combination Intel HD3000, Onkyo TX-SR605 and Windows Media Center that I probably will never be able to solve
EDIT: So I tried a discrete ATI video card, and had the same problem. Ergo, it must be that WMC cannot handshake or communicate with my Onkyo TX-SR605 receiver.
EDIT2: Also, my old 32-bit HTPC connecting via the same receiver, there is no problem. This is so frustrating. I think I will re-install Windows 7 64-bit + all drivers, and try WMC7 audio + Live TV before installing anything else.

  • How do you rotate still image on timeline in CS 5.5.2 PP, when another timeline is open and video is off and audio only is used. ?

I am using a clip with video off and using audio only on second timeline.
The some still images need rotating,  (on the  main timeline ) it easy to do that in the monitor when I am not using an additional video timeline. however, I cannot orient the horizontal images to vertical .?
I have turned the second video off and , I am using audio only .

it easy to do that in the monitor
Select image in timeline, then go up to the Effect Controls and highlight the word Motion.

  • .mov file won't display video

I ran across a DXG digital video camera/camcorder/MP3 player/voice recorder, model 506v yesterday, on sale for $89.
    <http://www.dxgtechusa.com/index2.html>
    I couldn't resist.
The manual says it can shoot video in both .avi and .mov format, and that the .avi is better quality. Since I use a Mac, and prefer the .mov format I shot a brief scene on my deck in .avi format, then switched to .mov, and shot the same scene. In the little camcorder window, both played back with video and audio. I then imported them into my laptop, and found to my surprise that-
    1) the .mov (QT) file opens to a white video screen and you can hear the audio (This is not yet in iMovie/FCP) In other words, I got
audio but no video visible. It's 'there', because when you ask QT to 'show
movie properties', it shows a video MPEG 4 -- you just can't 'see' it.
    2) the .avi file opens as expected, both video and audio displayed, though it does still need 'conversion' to get the sound in iMovie/FCPro.
Why, pray tell, would the .mov format not work?
    Hal
Here is the 'movie info' for two of the files, one .avi, one .mov:
    MPEG0001.AVI
    Format: XVID Decoder, 640 x 480, Millions '.mp2', Mono, 44.100 kHz
    FPS: 30
    Data Size: 9.32MB
    Data Rate: 4648.66 kbits/sec
    MPEG0002.MOV
    Format: Apple MPEG4 Decompressor, 640 X 480, Millions
    Microsoft ADPCM, Mono, 44.100 kHz
    FPS: 30
    Data size: 9.65 MB
    Data Rate: 4702.07 kbits/sec
    PowerMac G4 -dual 800, MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)
    PowerMac G4, dual 800-MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)
    PowerMac G4, dual 800-MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    FYI:
I tried VLC, and it worked - in that it opened both the video and audio, but I couldn't figure out how to save it using VLC in a format that would work in QT/iMovie.
I then decided to conduct an experiment, a very 'scientific' experiment: I went to Version Tracker, and got a list of video converters, then using the criteria of 'at least' four stars , and 'cheap' -- either free or shareware -- I download these three:
    EASYWMV<http://www.easywma.com/wmv/>
    iSquint<http://www.isquint.org/>
    DivX<www.divx.com>
The first one, EasyWMV worked: it converted the .mov file to a .mp4 file, which opens both audio and video in QT, and imports into iMovie.
The other two didn't work, in that they couldn't/didn't display the video.
The EasyWMV only converts 1 minutes of video for the free version: for $15, you can get the full featured version.
Since there is no appreciable improvement, in using a .mov format vice the .avi file, I'll probably stick with the .avi file format, and use MPEGStreamClip to do the conversion.
That being said, I'm still curious: I'd like to know why QT doesn't open the .mov (which I think of as a QT format) file? Presumably it doesn't have the proper 'codex'?

  • Captured .avi file much shorter when imported as Premiere CS3 clip.

I'm new to Premiere CS3. My first project is to convert several old VHS tapes to DVD. My analog camcorder plays into an analog video-to-Firewire converter (ADSTech Pyro A/V Link). The Firewire digital stream was smoothly captured by Premiere and sent to my NTSF-formatted scratch disk under MS Windows XP Pro. The single .avi file (about 5 GB) plays back nicely in Windows Media Player which indicates a total length of 18min, 34sec. But when imported into a Premiere project, only the first 1min, 18sec appears.
    What's up?

    John--
I downloaded and ran GSpot v2.70a on my AVI file. Lot's of data!
In the GSpot "Container" window it reports these lines:
    File Length Correct
    DV Type 2 AVI
    Multipart OpenDML AVI (5 parts)
(41160 frames in first part, -96 frames follow)
The "Video" report window says "Codec(s) are installed" with the name "DVC/DV Video." Actual length is 22m, 46.979s (which differs from my original statement because there a stretch of blank tape conversion after the actual content).
I think I'll repeat the transfer and be watching at the critical times.
Thanks for the pointer to GSpot and also thanks, Jim, for your response.

  • AVI Files, Sound but No Video

I have searched the forums but could not find the answer.  I have a slightly tricky situation.
I have old AVI files on my hard drive captured from a Sony D8 camcorder.  I used PE (version 2 I believe) to capture them.  This was a couple of years ago.  I have around 30 tapes and captured all the material from all of the tapes (around 700GB).  I then inlayed the date and time stamp on all the clips using DV Date (an excellent utility).  The initial enthusiasm of editing and converting them to DVD's stopped after the first couple of projects ;-)
Fast forward 2 years, when I tried to play the clips, I only get sound and no video (Windows media player, NERO, WinAmp etc.), with one exception, the VLC player.  When I get the clips into PE, they work fine!  The DV date utility also cannot open the files. It says, only audio stream found and no video stream.
I tried VirtualDub.  It plays them without any errors.  I then saved them and tried to play with other players.  Same problem.  Previously every player was playing them fine and now they don't.  I am terrified by the idea of re-importing from all the tapes and re-inlaying them with date and time.
What I did between the time they played fine and now was to back-up all the files onto another hard drive and defragment the first hard drive (I am still using the same computer to do all this).  Files have the same problem from either drive.
Bottom line, the clips work fine within PE but sound with no video on the media players.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks a lot.

    Bill,
Just wanted to post a follow-up on my problem for the benefit of others.
I thought all my files are corrupt and decided to capture them again.  When I hooked up my Sony D8 camcorder (using FireWire) I had problems again!  PrE said "Can't Activate Recorder.  Try Resetting Camcorder".
Tried Windows Movie Maker and that gave me a rather helpful (not!) "an unknown error occurred".  Back to my troubleshooting again and found a post somewhere on Adobe forums about "regsvr32 qdv.dll" . [Start -> Run and type regsvr32 qdv.dll (there is a space between 2 and q)].  I did that and all of my old files started working! Windows media player now plays them fine.  GSpot now says everything is good. I have attached the GSpot output below.
Now the bad news.  When I import media files into PrE, there is no audio!  Windows media player still plays them fine.
After re-registered the qdv.dll, I had problem with audio but re-starting the PC fixed it.
Now, back to audio troubleshooting in PrE!  I will post an update if I am successful.
    Thanks.

  • Importing d300s videos into premiere cs5 (os x)

    hello,
i shot some videos using nikon d300s and some of them are working perfectly fine (in preview and quick time) and some of them can;t be opened by preview and quick time for some reason, however they are working perfectly well in VLC and imovie. anyway, I can't import ANY of them into premiere cs5- every time I try I'm getting 'codec missing or unavailable' error message.. I have perian installed and some other codec packs I believe.
Do you have any experiences with cs5 and d300s videos? cs5 is supposed to have native support for them, right? WHat should I do to make it work?
    thanks

Unless Nikon has changed things, those files are MJPEG in an MOV wrapper. Take a look at this ARTICLE, but am not sure if either of the suggestions are available for the Mac.
If you find that the Morgan and the MainConcept do not work on the Mac, but find an MJPEG CODEC, that does, please update this thread, so that I can add that link to the article.
    Thanks and good luck,
    Hunt
PS - VLC contains most popular CODEC's, so it will play material, that other players, and editors cannot, because the CODEC needs to be installed in the system for them.

  • Exporting video,adobe premiere cs5

I used adobe premiere cs5 to make a video which includes photos and videos. It's 40 min long. When i do export, microsoft AVI format, it comes out too big (8.5 Gb) and i can't copy it to SD cards or memory stick.
How can i make it "copyable" and smaller (Gb)?
    The sequence settings:
    Editing mode: desktop
    Timebase: 29.97 f/s
    Frame size: 800x600
    Thank you!

There are endless choices of codecs and settings you could use. If you tell us the intended delivery, we can narrow it down. Do you want to share with friends to watch on other computers? Online streaming? DVD?

  • Premiere Pro audio only editing

I have seen some threads on this but they do not completely answer my question and are already marked answer.
I want to edit out small segments of audio only.  There is no sound track or anything.  For example I want to remove a phone ringing.  I know how to unlink and razor the audio althoug I can only do it if I more the audio to its own location on the timeline.  My main issue is that the razor does not seem to work if I spin down the waveform display.  I am using the waveform to find my exact edit point then spin up the display and cut.  Seems strange, am I missing something.  on a mac Premiere 5.1

Have you tried the Premiere Pro forum?

  • Audio/video chat works but audio only doesn't

Audio-video chats (both 2-way and one-way) work, but audio ONLY chats don't work (connection error). One machine is running 10.4.2 and the other 10.3.9. Doesn't seem like this would be a firewall or bandwidth issue if AV chats are working fine. Why would this happen?

I have the same issue, as well as the other iChat issues on other posts. When our offices (SF area & LA area, CA, US) were on 10.3.9, no problems with audio or video chats (we all have AIM screen names). Then the boss upgraded to 10.4.1. He could a/v chat with anyone inside our network and could video (with sound) with the other office, but not audio only. When he is at home he could a/v with anyone. We upgraded one more computer in our office to 10.4.1 and it was able to audio chat to other Tiger machines outside the office, but not Panther machines (can chat with anyone inside too). Now the boss and I have upgraded these same machines to 10.4.2 and the audio chat doesn't work outside the office anymore and we still can't chat with Panther machines outside the office.
Our office has Netopia Cayman 3546-002 ADSL Broadband Gateway on SBC Yahoo DSL at 4936 kbps down/493 kbps up. I called Netopia and had them help me open up the ports (I had them look at the apple tech document so they could help me get it right). It has NAT enabled and all the computers on this LAN have static addresses. Most of the computers access the LAN through the airport express (which just bounces the signal from the wired side). I think we have port forwarding or mapping set up for our two servers...the router looks at the address from the WAN side and routes it to the address on the LAN side. Firmware is up to date on the router.
I did not originally set up this network and have spent much time reading the user manual for the modem/router (it's a combo device) and trying suggestions here and from Level 2 at Apple. They say it is our network, but I don't know how to fix it.
I don't think this router has any UPnP capability, that I could find in the manual. Also what is SIP? I need a description of it or at least what that acronym stands for. Also, I've seen stuff about using the Terminal to change the telenet port. This routers telenet is set to 23, that should be fine for iChat, right? No conflict?
Please help this tortured soul!! Thanks.

  • Two-way video chat with other (audio-only) participants?

Is it possible to have a five-way chat in iChat with
. - myself and one other participant via video, and
. - three other participants via audio only?
I know there's an option for one-way video conferencing, where only one person in a conference has video and the other(s?) have audio, but what about two with video and the others with audio?
And if we did this, could the three audio participants see the two video participants even if the three don't participate via video?

    Hi,
You can start A One Way Video chat with a Buddy without a Camera.
You can add others up to the standard 4 people (you and three others) and some can be audio Only.
You do have to have a Mac of a G4/1Ghz dual or above and have a Upload speed of 256 k at the very Least (Apple Specs say 384k) although more is preferable when you are Host.
Ideally the Host should be the fastest Mac with the fastest connection.
Invite Camera able Buddies first then Audio Only Buddies by clicking on the green A/V icon they are showing in the Buddy list.

  • Premiere CS5 Imports Only Audio from AVI from HD Camcorder

I recently purchased this camcorder and recorded some video in 1080p HD. The camera saves its video in .AVI format. When I go to import the files into an HDV 1080p30 preset project sequence, Premiere only recognizes the audio. A friend of mine suspects that it's because Premiere doesn't recognize "the AVDHD stream within the AVI wrapper." Does anyone have a solution. I uploaded a sample video clip here. Any insights would be much appreciated. I'd hate to have to send the camera back because it seems really nice aside from this issue.
    Thanks,
