Avi files causing Bridge to shut down -- why?

I just installed  the CS5 upgrade (from CS4) on my Windows 7 laptop. I also ran the latest PhotoShop updates which loaded ACR 6.3 among other updates. I needed that one in order to process ORF files from my Olympus E-5.
Now, I can see and edit the ORF files in Bridge with no problem. However, if I attempt to open an images folder that contains an .avi file created with my Olympus E-5, Bridge shuts down with a message "Adobe Bridge CS5 has stopped working". The system looks for a fix to the problem, but naturally doesn't find one.
I'm not attempting to edit these .avi files -- they just happen to be in the same folder as my ORF images. I ended up moving the .avi files to a separate folder, and now I can open the images folder. But I don't want to have to do this every time I take .avi movies with my new camera. I download the ORF images with the .avi files from my camera at the same time.
Any thoughts?

I have exactly the same problem and can't work out why. It seems Bridge crashes with the "Adobe Bridge CS5 has stopped working" message every time it tries to diaply any folder containing a video file.
So if bridge is open and I try to import a mixture of pictures and videos from a memory card, Bridge crashes when it gets to importing the video file.
Likewise, if I just open Bridge and then navigate to a folder which contains a video file, it crashes when it tries to open that folder.
I have to resort to the same work-around as the previous poster and use Windows explorer to move all the video files out of the folder prior to using Bridge to view that folder.
My previous versions of Bridge did not have this problem and worked as intended. Does anybody have a solution?

32mb InDesign file with 50 pages of text and hi-res color images. Just after saving and trying to scroll to another page, images were grayed out and an error message came up stating the database was damaged and InDesign was shutting down.

  • RAW CR2 files cause Bridge / PS CS3 to quit after Snow Leopard

    OS: Snow Leopard Fresh Install
    Camera: Canon XTi
    Files: Canon RAW CR2
Issue: Access of ANY kind to a RAW file causes the app(s) to quit.
Detail: Everything was fine in Leopard but for various reasons I did a fresh install of Snow Leopard. Wiped the drive and installed clean. Installed iLife 09 and then did any Apple updates. I then installed CS3 and did all the Adobe updates (Almost 600 MB). Used PS for some graphic stuff with no issue and thought everything was good until today. Went to Bridge and simply tried to navigate to my RAW photos and it quit. Tried opening a RAW in PS... same thing. Checked the ACR version and is was 4.6 but I reinstalled anyway... same. So, I uninstalled the fresh copy of CS3 and reinstalled to be safe... same. OK, now it was testing time. Navigated to the RAW files in Finder and can view them fine. I can quick preview them, open them in preview etc, so the OS raw support is fine. Same thing happens just trying to open the file with PS CS3 since it open using RAW.
I removed the RAW plugin and Bridge stayed open fine and displayed the files as generic thumbs. Put the plugin back and it dies again.
In Leopard the RAW Prefs were set to store the settings in the RAW database instead of sidecar files and I have tried putting the database file in from the pre-snow leopard backup. No luck. I am totally stumped any any ideas are welcome. I am about to restore the Leopard image.
    Thanks in advance,
    Razz

    Thanks for the idea Carolyn.
Unfortunately it did not fix it. I had tried it before and tried it again after your post. Thing is, it can't be the cache since the install of bridge has never been used. As soon as I load it and try to go view my files it quits. I would expect this from an upgraded SL install but an erase & install with fresh CS3 and all the OS and Adobe updates should be smooth. I really don't want to go back to Leopard but have to be able to mess with my photos. Why would removing the raw plugin stop the failure? It is 1 file, the correct version and fresh installed. Not sure what to do except maybe start over and yet that could still fail and takes a LONG time. I hate to upgrade to CS4 since I am not sure where the issues is.
Maybe install SL again over the top as an upgrade?
    Any other ideas?
    Thanks, Razz

  • Downloaded Four Movies:  Two Cause QuickTime to Shut Down

I downloaded four movies today. Two of them appeared in my library, the other two did not. I found the "missing" two in my library and added them to my Itunes library. I was able to play the "first" two movies with no problem; however, I cannot play the other two (the formerly "missing" two). Quicktime just shuts down. I know I have the most recent version because I upgraded Quicktime prior to playing the first two. Can you help?
    Thanks in advance.

The term "Thingie" is actually a quite acceptable technical term, so no need to refrain from using it in the future.
Based on your description, I am assuming that your network configuration, with the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS), is something like the following:
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [Internet port] Linksys [LAN port] > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN] AEBS > (wireless) > wireless computers
In this configuration, you would have two routers providing NAT/DHCP services, which, in effect, would create two subnets. Computers on one subnet would not be able to "see" those on the other subnet. This also might be the cause of the problem you are experiencing.
If this is the case, you would want the AEBS to be set up as a bridge, so that only the Linksys is providing the NAT/DHCP services.
To set up the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS) as a bridge, temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to the LAN port of the AEBS, and then, using the AirPort Admin Utility (found in /Applications/Utilities), make these settings:
    Network tab
    - Distribute IP addresses (unchecked)
    - Apply the new settings.

  • Movies/videos causing iTunes to shut down

My laptop recently crashed and the hard drive replaced. Fortunately all my music; movies; videos; and tv shows were on my Ipod classic. I reloaded itunes. Now the movies cause itunes to stop stating it cannot find the movie. The icon is there but no movie. The movies are still on my ipod and work great! I bought a new movie and it works fine no issues. Any ideas as to how to get my movies back onto the laptop so I can watch them Like I want to? The only thing I can think to do is to erase iTunes and start from scratch again. I can back up the ipod to another computer. ( I did that last time)

Now downloading my CD"s is creating the same problem. I now cannot even bring up the itunes on my laptop is has shut down due to movies/videos and CD downloads! What can I do? Please I need major help and calling itunes was useless they wanted to charge me for iTunes help!

  • Bridge CS6 shuts down

I recently loaded PS CS6 and am having trouble with Bridge. When I right click on a RAW image to open it in Camera RAW (or use other methods) Bridge shuts down with the message: Data Execution Prevention has closed Adobe Bridge. I still have PS CS3 loaded; don’t know if that could part of the problem. What is shutting down Bridge and how can I fix it?

    What is Data Execution Prevention?
Data Execution Prevention (DEP for short) is a "feature" of Microsoft Windows. Unfortunately it is a bit far from its intent of preventing damage from viruses or other security threats. Most of the time, it just annoys the hell out of you. Anyway, if you have an antivirus, firewall and Mozilla Firefox you can turn it off without giving it a second thought.
    How to turn it off
Simple. Right click "My computer" and then click on "Properties". You can access this through the Start menu as well.
In the "System Properties" window, find the "Advanced” tab, and click on it. Then, in the "Performance” section click the "Settings” button.
You can see in the "Performance Options” window a tab named "Data Execution Prevention”. Click on it, and make sure that the "Turn on DEP for essential Windows programs and services only” is selected.
That is it. Click Ok a few times to close the windows you opened, and then when you are prompted to restart your computer, click Ok again. Job done!

  • VI file cannot be completely shut down!?

    Hallo all experts,
My VI application is to communicate with an A/D converter. It only works properly one time after opening. I have to totally close LabVIEW, then start it again for a second run. When I run HyperTerminal after stop the application, windows says that another program is using the COM terminal. It seems that my VI application cannot be completely shut down, but Why? Is it normal? There is a producer-consumer structure inside my code, perhaps it is due to the bad synchronization of terminating them. Have you ever experienced such situation?
    Any tips are highly appreciated.
    win2

I agree with Centerbolt that the best course of action is to manually close your VISA session in your LabVIEW VI before the VI shuts down. Another thing you can do is to set an Environment option in LabVIEW under Tools >> Options. You'll see a checkbox there called Automatically Close VISA Sessions that shuts down VISA sessions whenever the VI goes idle that was using it. Both these methods should save you from having to restart LabVIEW everytime.

  • ITunes causing hang on shut down. Help!

iTunes 11 has been causing my Macbook Pro 15.4" running Lion to hang at shutdown.  I would open up iTunes and it would not respond so I would have to force quit it. Then I proceed to shut my mac down (I always quit all running applications and uncheck the 'reopen windows'), where it continues to hang with that grey spinning wheel. I've left it for over 10 minutes and it still hangs, so I'd have to do a hard shut down. This doesn't happen all the time, but it's becoming quite often now. Please help!

If you forced quit iTunes before shut down then that is not what is causing you the problem. Reboot to the Lion Recovery Disk and run Repair Disk from Disk Utility.

  • While publishing an iMovie project iMovie unexpectedly shuts down, why?

While publishing a project in iMovie, iMovie uexpectedly shuts down. Why?

I've been having this problem with iMovie for a few months now, all of a sudden something has happened to my iMovie. It seems to happen only when I insert Picture In Picture option(s) in a slideshow. When exporting the completed Project to Quicktime it crashes. This also happens if I try to Finalize the Project or Share the Project via Vimeo or YouTube. There are a lot of folks out there experiencing this problem, some are finding solutions - I'm not.

  • Elements 10 Organizer keeps shutting down - why?

I have using PSE 6 succesfully on my computer for about 4 years.  I recently downloaded the trial version of PSE 10, but it never worked properly and the Organizer would close down aftre about 1 minute, so I never bothered with it.  I have now purchased the software on DVD and the same thing is happening.  I open the Organizer, it loads up with all my pictures (about 14,500) and then after about 60-90 seconds I get a grey pop-up box saying "Elements 10 Organizer has encountered a problem and needs to close.  We are sorry for any inconvenience.  Please tell Microsoft about this problem...." and sends a report.
I'm not techie, and the report content means nothing to me.
I've tried uninstall/reinstall and that hasn't helped and I've read numerous Forum topics but cannot find one that matches this.  Any help would be gratefully received, thanks.  Simon.

I just installed PSE10 and ran into the same problem with Organizer after setting up a catalog by importing pictures from six years' worth of photo files and folders. It turns out one of the imported files was corrupted in the import process and was given a year of 2098. Organizer kept shutting down after about less than 30 seconds every time I opened it, and I couldn't delete the corrupted file. I also uninstalled and reinstalled PSE10 a few times. Finally, I discovered the Catalog Manager feature (hold down the "shift" key while starting Organizer). In Catalog Manager, I moved the catalog I had created from being accessible by everyone to being accessible to only me. Voila! I was then able to open Organizer without it shutting down. Then I used Organizer to properly convert my previous catalog created in Photoshop Album 2.0 into Organizer. And I got my entire catalog in less time than the method I had been using. Now, however, I have a problem in trying to delete the catalog with the corrupted file. When I use Catalog Manager to remove it, I get an error message saying the catalog is being used by "another program." I can't figure out which other program that is. I'll have to keep playing with Organizer until I figure that one out.

  • Updating or installing new iTunes causes computer to shut down

I have tried several times to update my iTunes and get through to where it says it is validating install. It stops at about 70% and freezes there for 10 mins. or so and then my computer shuts down. I tried removing iTunes and QuickTime and downloading again but the same thing happened. All MS updates are installed.

It stops at about 70% and freezes there for 10 mins. or so and then my computer shuts down.
Are you getting any sort of blue screen when the PC shuts down? If so what text and alphanumeric codes is it showing? (eg 0x0000007E?)
If it is showing a specific file name too (for example, ati3duag.dll) let us know what that is called too. Precise spelling please.
